This week Tom & Zeus open Season 8 of Shout It Out Loudcast with a review of the most quintessential KISS compilation, the 1978 "Double Platinum!" This SIOL's 12th compilation review. This was KISS' first compilation and came out in a period where KISS would release 7 albums in two years including 2 double albums, one of which is Double Platinum. This compilation covers songs from 1974 - 1977, containing containing 20 songs from the first 6 KISS studio albums. The album was certified platinum and was produced by the great Sean Delaney. He remixed the songs and made some controversial changes to many of the tracks, including a new disco version of "Strutter" called "Strutter '78" but lovingly called "Disco Strutter" on SIOL. The album cover with its silver color KISS logos and red Double Platinum writing is legendary. When opened there were embossed images of the band members that were fascinating to view. The guys breakdown the track selection and then rank the compilation album and cover versus the previous reviewed compilation albums. A classic album from the classic era of KISS. Dr. Burke started working in health food stores while in college at the University of Michigan. In the late 70s and early 80s, he worked with industry pioneer Dr. Earl Mandel, eventually managing a chain of 170 stores. For 42 years, he hosted a national radio talk show focused on health. He now hosts the Honest Health with Jeffrey Burke podcast and serves as the Director of Education for Kokora Life, founded by Rick Scalzo. The Industry Evolution He credits his interest in natural medicine to his Ukrainian and Polish grandmother, who used to forage for mushrooms and dandelion tea and kept a perpetual pot of bone broth on the stove. This generational wisdom sparked a lifelong dedication to natural health that has spanned over four decades. Organic vs. Regenerative Farming Organic farming primarily focuses on what is not in or on the crop… no herbicides, GMOs, or synthetic chemicals. However, traditional organic farming still involves heavy tilling, which degrades soil over time. Regenerative farming follows organic methods but goes further by focusing on soil health and restoration. Key practices include no-till farming to prevent erosion, cover crops ensuring the ground is never "naked," bio-ferments that create a "probiotic" for the soil, biochar using burnt bamboo remnants, and increased worm populations that aerate the soil. Why Soil Health Matters Regenerative crops are often four to five times stronger than traditional crops. The transition at Rick Scalzo's farm resulted in a turmeric crop that was five times larger and significantly more potent. Burke notes that due to overtilling and chemical use, the planet may only have about 60 crops left. We've lost 40% of insect populations and 50% of bird populations. Regenerative food provides the mineral density the body craves, leading to better satiety. Health and Longevity Advice Shop the outer areas of grocery stores… avoid processed, chemical-laden foods in the middle. Real food has a short shelf life. Citing Blue Zones like Okinawa, Burke notes that the longest-living people eat a simple, consistent diet of 7 to 8 high-quality foods rather than a hyper-varied diet. When starting regenerative supplements, start with half the recommended dose because the potency is much higher. “I wonder if we'll get a cease and desist on this episode…”   Generally speaking, whenever someone says “Slayer” or “Metallica”, you think of two veteran thrash bands which both formed in 1981 and both released their debut albums in 1983. This is common knowledge among most fans of both of these bands.    Ironically, there's another band who follows this exact same timeline of forming in 1981 and releasing their debut album in 1983, yet at the time, they were NOT at all thrashy…not even close.    Most of us know of PANTERA as the brutally heavy, groove metal masters from Arlington, Texas who lit a proverbial fire under the ass of the thrash and heavy music scene in 1990 with their “major label” debut album (with the emphasis, in this case, on the words “major label”) as CFH was actually their FIFTH studio album.    Fifth? Wait a minute…what about THE FIRST FOUR studio albums!? And why are those albums not talked about and celebrated just like all things PANTERA!?    Well, there's a reason that THE FIRST FOUR aren't really talked about or acknowledged. Actually, there are probably a multitude of reasons, but the most glaring one is the stylistic difference between their early glam and power metal days and the heavier, grittier era when they truly became the “Cowboys From Hell”.    Remember those awkward Olan Mills pictures you used to take with the family, or better yet, the pictures of you in high school with that absurd, dorky hairstyle that people always like to bring up in conversation? That's kinda what THE FIRST FOUR ALBUMS by PANTERA were like.   Always remember that “Dokken is better than KISS” and you absolutely have to “pill up before PT”. Miland "Mille" Petrozza är gitarrist och sångare i det stilbildande tyska thrash metal-bandet Kreator. Han växte upp i Essen med en mor som flytt från Östtyskland och en far som kommit från det fattiga Syditalien för att bli gruvarbetare. Den första musik som Mille älskade var disco som Baccara och Bee-Gees. Han blev förtjust även i Kiss discoflörter men när han såg dem live 1980 fick han smak för tyngre musik tack vare förbandet Iron Maiden. Två år senare startade den 14-årige Mille gruppen Metal Militia som bytte namn till Tyrant för att sedan bli Tormentor och slutligen Kreator. Mille gick fortfarande i gymnasiet när de fick skivkontrakt och åkte på sin första USA-turné. Hemma hos mig pratar han bland annat om sin kärlek till Dario Argentos skräckfilmer, om när han fick besök av Mayhem långt innan de blivit satanister, om när det senare bandets ledare Euronymous fick honom att upptäcka Kate Bush, om Kreators legendariska spelningar i Fagersta (som bland annat inspirerade en ung Howlin' Pelle), om att ta hand om sin kropp för att orka headbanga, om nya albumet "Krushers of the world" och om varför det inte funkar att vara rasist och metalfan. Killer's Kiss was the maestro Stanley Kubrick's second film and it IS amateurish, especially by his incredibly high standards. The technical genius' cast is just okay in this...and they aren't as big and memorable as most of his casts would be in later works. Where's the lowered-brow glare?! Still, Jamie Smith, Irene Kane and Frank Silvera are rock-solid in this thriller about a boxer, a dancer and a gangster. There's ballet and thuggery and mannequins and a few killings in this one too.
