Hollywood icon Rob Reiner, who starred in "All in the Family" and was the director of classic films like "The Princess Bride," was found dead, along with his wife Michele, inside their Los Angeles home on Sunday, sources say. Police have called it a death investigation into an apparent homicide. Officials have not released more information regarding the circumstances of the deaths. Actor and TV host Jerry O'Connell says "it's just surreal" and he's "still in shock" over the death of actor and director Rob Reiner. He speaks to "CBS Mornings" about their relationship and the legacy Reiner left in Hollywood. Australia is reeling from a deadly terror attack on Jews celebrating Hanukkah that killed at least 15 people and injured dozens more. It was the country's worst mass shooting in nearly 30 years. CBS News' Anna Coren reports. Wayne and Vanessa Miller were at a Bondi Beach Hanukkah celebration with their two young daughters when gunmen opened fire on Sunday at the famous Australian beach. The Millers tell "CBS Mornings" about their escape from the attack, and how a stranger laid on top of their 3-year-old daughter to protect her from gunfire. The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry
What happens when country headlines collide with hard radio data and a lightning-rod debate about replacement singers? We open strong with legacy-name scandals and the messy myths that follow artists, then pivot to why High Road became the most-played track and how Morgan Wallen still blankets the airwaves. From Garth Brooks saluting KISS to arena tours and heartfelt tributes, we trace the lines between genre, showmanship, and what actually moves listeners to hit replay. We get honest about a stat no one likes: only five songs by women cracked country radio's top 50 this year, and most were features. Is that bias, taste, or risk-aversion? We unpack the label incentives, production choices, and fan habits that tilt playlists toward male voices—and where the breakthroughs really happen when women lean into sharper narratives and bolder arrangements. If you're a programmer, artist, or fan who wants more balance, you'll find practical takeaways to nudge the system forward. Then we light the fuse: name a replacement singer better than the original. The board fills with ACDC's Brian Johnson, Journey's Steve Perry, Van Halen's Sammy Hagar, and Queen with Adam Lambert. We separate technical upgrades from cultural fits and show how casting can redefine a band's destiny—just as it can in country.Episode LinksScotty Simpson: https://jayfranze.com/episode3/Jim Cristaldi: https://jayfranze.com/episode27/Bob Bullock: https://jayfranze.com/episode28/Dave Jackson: https://jayfranze.com/episode53/William Lee Golden: https://jayfranze.com/episode72/Billie Jo Jones: https://jayfranze.com/episode98/Dalila Mya: https://jayfranze.com/episode102/Mark Badolato: https://jayfranze.com/episode140/Eugene Rice: https://jayfranze.com/episode170/Send us a text Support the showLinks Jay Franze: https://jayfranze.com/ JFS Country Countdown: https://jayfranze.com/countdown/ Contact Contact: https://jayfranze.com/contact/ Socials Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayfranze TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jayfranze X: https://x.com/jayfranze YouTube: https://youtube.com/@jayfranze Services Services: https://jayfranze.com/services/ Books Books: https://jayfranze.com/books/ Merchandise Merchandise: https://jayfranze.com/merchandise/ Support Support: https://jayfranze.com/support/ Sponsor the Show: https://jayfranze.com/sponsor/

Send us a textA Very 70's Christmas: Silent Nights and Scandalous LightsIt's the holidays and the Back in Time Brothers Lou and DJ Paulie are bringing Christmas cheer right here. Join us as we dive into A Very '70s Christmas, exploring the decade's grooviest most chaotic and most unforgettable holiday moments. On this episode, prepare for:• The Ultimate '70s Soundtrack: Hear 12 original non-cover Christmas songs from 1970–1979. We spin soulful classics by Donnie Hathaway ("This Christmas") and the anti-war anthem from John Lennon and Yoko Ono ("Happy Christmas (War Is Over)"). We rock out with glam anthems like Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody" and Wizard's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day," and feature progressive rock from Greg Lake ("I Believe in Father Christmas"). We also highlight The Kinks' social commentary with "Father Christmas" and the shimmering synthesizer sound of Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime."• Silent Nights and Scandalous Lights (Rock Talk): This segment reveals the drama behind the tinsel. Discover the high-pressure childhood of the Jackson 5 while recording their Christmas album which required endless touring rehearsals and late-night tapings. Hear about the near-disaster when a KISS pyro charge misfired during a 1974 Michigan show nearly turning the stage into a flaming ornament. Plus we cover the tense improvised creation of David Bowie and Bing Crosby's iconic "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" duet which was written on the spot because Bowie hated the original song.• Busted on the Back in Time Radio Show (Stupid Christmas Criminals): We expose bizarre true tales including the case of the drunk Santa who stole his own suit at a food court bar in Minneapolis the man who sabotaged a gingerbread house contest in Albany and the elf impersonator caught with three wallets stuffed in her tights at a corporate party in Columbus. We also recount the international case of the German ceramic mug thieves at a Munich Christmas market.• The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of '70s Toys: Get nostalgic with the origins of the Nerf ball (the first indoor ball) and the beloved Atari 2600. Cringe at the anatomically correct Joey Stivic Baby Doll which had a "drink and wet feature." Finally remember the terrifying danger of toys like Lawn Darts (Jarts) which caused numerous injuries and deaths and shattering acrylic Clackers.Pull on those fuzzy slippers and turn up the volume—we're delivering soul glam rock and roll madness wrapped in one glittering holiday package.Support the showThanks for listening. “There were 2 years of my life that I was dead certain I was gonna be a breakdancer…” The release of THE ULTIMATE SIN on January 24, 1986, the 4th studio album from OZZY OSBOURNE (and the 2nd & final album to feature Jake E. Lee on guitar) is definitely one of the heaviest albums of Ozzy's 80's output. “I've got the magic!” With heavier riffs, crazier guitar pyrotechnics, and darker lyrical themes like nuclear annihilation, THE ULTIMATE SIN blends in just the right amount of glam while still maintaining the essential heaviness that is a prerequisite for any classic OZZY album. While perhaps a bit “more Blizzard than Diary”, it's a dramatic improvement from Bark At The Moon and is overall heavier and more focused. “Oh yeah, the ‘dunniguhh'? Yeah…I remember that one.” Get ready for some metal news and current events, understand that “most people, if they have a mustache” can only look like one of three different people (or a combination of all three), and accept the fact that “the bur-duh-dur is what got ‘em”. Well, we recently talked about the first Chronicle of Narnia … the book! Yet many fans found or rediscovered this series thanks to the Disney-distributed, Walden Media–made film from director Andrew Adamson. Want to feel old? That was two decades ago! So now we shall look back at Narnia's journey to the box office with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which released twenty years ago on Dec. 9, 2005. In addition to producing his own films, he oversees a marketing team that has marketed 75 films since 2001. From 2000-2005 he worked in development and marketing for Walden Media and Crusader Entertainment and oversaw a grassroots marketing team. Narnia's journey from book to screen … The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe got one TV animation (1979) Then the story (plus two more) came to live-action BBC TV (1988) Yet it was the Walden Media–made film that went bigger (2005) That film released just twenty years ago in the U.S., Dec. 9, 2005 Mark Joseph's role from those early days as Narnia pre-producer 2. … Through the winter of production … Stephen first learned this was official in a NY Times ad Dec. 2003. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe film released Dec. 9, 2005. 3. … And into the spring of fan acclaim Teasers and trailers pleased fans, with only a few early hiccups. Against a $180 million budget, earned $745 million worldwide. Led to two sequels that earned less. Ended. Restart didn't work. Now we have Greta Gerwig starting with The Magician's Nephew. Any informal shared advice, constructive criticism, final memories. Com station Top question for listeners How did you first see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)? Terri Hamilton recalls her Narnia origin tale (ep. 289): I found the Narnia series in my school library when I was in 4th grade, and yes, they were in the proper order. It was a watershed moment for me. I bought myself a boxed set a few years later. Boy, did I look for portals! When I get into a discussion about the book order, I point out The Magician's Nephew is a prequel, explaining the back story of the first book. Next on Fantastical Truth “We do not celebrate Christmas that way.” “We do not read those kinds of books.” “We ‘do not handle, do not taste, do not touch.'” We know our world is full of rebellion against God's law. But many people overreact to moral license with a strict imposing of out-of-context or made-up laws. Faithful saints call this legalism, and Christian fantasy fans know plenty about this. When that social-media pastor rebukes your favorite sci-fi, or that relative raises a judgy eyebrow at holiday dinners, how you can respond with grace, truth, and love for legalists?
