Who is the photographer Peter Dazeley and how did we meet Peter Dazeley studied photography at Holland Park Comprehensive (now known as the Socialist Eton). He possesses a meticulous planning approach and an imaginative problem-solving ability, pioneering numerous photographic techniques that have since become standard practices. Sarah Ryder Richardson, who represents Dazeley in the UK, states, "Dazeley's gift lies in making the ordinary look extraordinary." His work has earned awards from organizations worldwide, including the Association of Photographers, the Royal Photographic Society in the UK, EPICA in France, Applied Arts Magazine in Canada, and Graphis Inc. in the USA. Platinum prints of Dazeley's fine artwork are produced by 31 Studios in Gloucestershire. A few months ago, Lauren Bell, a publicist from Trope Publishing, approached me. She asked if I would be interested in engaging in a conversation with Peter. Naturally, I agreed, and the rest, as they say, became history. Despite the timezone difference and his hectic schedule, Peter was more than accommodating. He sat down with me to record this conversation. This marked only his second podcast interview, yet he performed exceptionally well for a podcasting newcomer. Take a look at his work; I'm confident you'll be impressed by his photographic skills. [#51] Studio Ghibli and more specifically Hayao Miyazaki are quickly becoming a personal favorite among movies and animation! Each film they produce is so fun and touching and after Spirited Away I was a life long fan! So moving onto the next in my collection of Blu Rays is "Howl's Moving Castle". After Spirited Away blew everyone away there were a lot of English actors ready to be a part of the next amazing piece from Miyazaki. Namely Christian Bale. Also packed in this ensemble cast is Emily Mortimer, Jean Simmons, Lauren Bell (who wanted to mary Miyazaki), and Billy Crystal. Based on the book by Diana Wynne Jones of the same title released in 1986, Howl's Moving Castle is the story of an unconfident young woman who is cursed with an old body by a spiteful witch, her only chance of breaking the spell lies with a self-indulgent yet insecure young wizard and his companions in his legged, walking castle. Like the author said herself, it is a touching story about how "if you love someone enough all sorts of extraordinary other things happen in your surrounds as well, and you can achieve great things even if the world falls to pieces around you." "It is meant to be enjoyed. I want everyone to enjoy it and laugh, and rejoice about it because it is a wonderful thing." - Diana Jones Show Notes Connect on Social Media Facbook.com/basementbinge Instagram @thebasementbinge or send me an email - harrison@thebasementbinge.com Help the show by leaving a review on Podchaser.com/thebasementbinge You can also follow me on Letterboxd @HARRYPerry13 Best of the Best intro music by Anthony P. Airline attendants always say to fit your own oxygen mask before turning to help others. It's the same in life. You have to take care of yourself first before you are able to care for another person. We are now 6 months of being in and out of lockdown and now more than ever, we all need to take good care of ourselves. Every person copes with the stress of isolation and lockdown in different ways. In this episode, we learn the different ways that we can cope with being in lockdown. There is no right or wrong way to cope during these times, but having a plan each day is a good starting point for your mental, physical, and emotional health. Being kind to yourself especially now during these challenging times will benefit not only you but the people around you. When you offer yourself and others around you compassion and love, it will make it easier for you and the people around you to get to the other side of the crisis as better versions of yourselves. This morning I spoke with Lauren Bell and her Australian husband Gerry. The couple had been living and working in the UK but decided to return to New Zealand. Lauren returned home in January, and Gerry was to follow on March 20th, which was terrible timing – that was the day border restrictions came into place. 19 weeks later and Immigration New Zealand still won't allow Gerry entry into New Zealand to be united with his wife. And they are not the only couple experiencing these problems. The news often reports on separated spouses and families. There is no doubt the immigration department is under immense pressure, and hard work is being done to navigate this unprecedented time, but at times they do themselves no favours. Case in point - one of the most ridiculous cases this week must be that of the two Warriors players who have been told they will be denied from returning to New Zealand at the end of the NRL season, despite having lived here for several years. It's at this point people will start throwing around the precedent set with America's Cup and film crews – I bet the government wished that never became public.Selestino Ravutaumada playing for the U20 Warriors. Photo / PhotosportI know Tongan Elie Katoa and Fijian Selestino Ravutaumada are not New Zealand citizens – but they have work visas, and have lived in New Zealand for several years. Now I know if you're the kind of person who likes a fair and just system with no exemptions, then this would be a good time to say, well what about everyone else with a New Zealand work visa trying to make their way back to New Zealand – and I agree. The complexities of the immigration system are becoming starker by the day, and once again our inability to quarantine bigger numbers of people in managed isolation continues to be a stumbling block. But here's what gets me about this Warriors case. Both these young men were enticed to come to New Zealand on the back of school sports scholarships – that rather dubious practice that many high schools in New Zealand participate in. They were brought here, and given educational and sporting opportunities, but also with the intention of bettering a school, and ultimately national sports team. And they have done their bit. After encouraging them to come to New Zealand as young men, we should let them return as opposed to leaving them stranded in another country. It is, of course, the job of Warrior's management to have investigated and understood what the rules are and how they affect their players – and maybe they didn't do their jobs well enough, but clearly they are frustrated with how things are proceeding.By going public, I'm confident this issue will be addressed promptly. The sensible decision is to let them return to New Zealand at the end of the season with the rest of the team. But what about other people whose lives and families are in New Zealand, who have work visas and jobs waiting for them here, who were overseas at the wrong time, and find themselves unable to return to New Zealand? They too deserve to be heard. Let's not forget about them.
A parliamentary petition has been launched in a desperate attempt to allow Australian partners of New Zealand citizens to be allowed into the country. The petition has been started by New Zealand citizen Lauren Bell who has been separated from her Australian husband Gerry Tonkin-Hill for the last six months due to Covid travel restrictions.Lauren and Gerry had been living and working in the UK and were married in January.Shortly after Lauren moved back to New Zealand, with Gerry set to follow on March 20, the day our borders closed.Lauren told Francesca Rudkin it's been difficult being away from him for so long."A bit bizarre that your married and you're all excited about all of that and I was looking forward about having Gerry living with me back here in Tauranga."It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride, really."LISTEN ABOVE
Have you ever felt stressed or anxious in a certain situation and needed a way to lessen and release the pain? The Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT Tapping is an alternative therapy to relieve stress and anxiety. This technique involves light taps in certain points on your body, particularly on the head, face, and arms while focusing on the issue you want to treat. The tapping of different body parts accompanied by positive mantras helps balance your energy and reduce physical or emotional pain.
