"Thinking of how tourism is now a major industry for Madeira I started with the now, the field recording submitted to the Sonic Heritage project. Already rhythmic in the sound of the footsteps I looped parts of this, and brought it back in at the end. I really liked the image the recording brought up of walking the narrow Levada (waterways) and the muffled greetings and people saying 'sorry' and 'your welcome' as they squeeze past each other. The World Heritage Site is promoted today for its wildlife, tranquillity and calm, so I also closed the loop with brought in birdsong recorded in the Laurisilva (the World Heritage Site in which the field recording was made) "In the past however, for all the lush and ancient forest, this was essentially part of an industrial landscape, with the Levadas (waterways) carved and built through the rock to facilitate the sugar industry that was developed from the mid 15th century onwards. This industry was also the model for the plantation slavery across the Caribbean, Brazil and the United States that followed. "In the official submission to UNESCO to have the Levadas Designated (submitted 2017, nomination withdrawn 2024) there's no mention of enslaved people being brought to the island for labour: Guanche people from the Canary Islands and Berber people from North Africa at first, then people from West Africa. Given that the carving and construction of the Levadas was hard, dangerous and even deadly work it seems likely it was these people who built them, and not 'heroic' or 'stoic' settlers and farmers as the official submission (and other, often tourist oriented, sources) suggest.  "I therefore wanted to make a piece in which the water running through the Levada holds this memory - inspired by the quiet dripping sound that can just be heard at one point in the original recording, I added my own field recordings of water running through a channel and of (archaeological) excavation, plus a low rustling vegetal sound for the dense forest. At several points Gnawa music recorded in Morrocco seeps through, I don't know if this is temporally or geographically correct for some of the first people brought, enslaved, to Madeira, but I wanted a way to surface this history - and to bring in an aural reminder of hidden histories that lie behind official, 'authorised' heritage discourse." This recording captures a moment I stoped on a walking along a "levada," a traditional water channel originally built to transport water from the north of the island. These networks of aqueducts stretch across many kilometres and are accompanied by narrow walking paths, open to the public and popular among tourists. It runs through a high-altitude area characterised by lush greenery and dense forest.  The soundscape is dominated by the birds, wind, and the abundance of water—whether gently flowing through the channels or rushing in small streams. In this recording, alongside the sound of rain, you can hear the levada flowing to the right and a river farther below, creating a gentle, droning ambiance. Subtly in the background, the distant voices of other walkers. My brother was eager to share this levada walk with his girlfriend, and I decided to join them with the hope of capturing both the natural soundscape and the human presence. "Erica madernsis, Inspired in the sound emmited from water bodies in Levada do Rei in Madeira, Portugal, which is a small island with amazing landscapes, with vast florae, a special place with it's own oddities & singularities in the endemical plants that inhabit there. E. madernsis is one of those endemycal plants, that although being small, intrepid, perennial, ramified and bushy, now is also in critical extinction status. "E. Madernsis survives thanks to the water bodies — recorded on audio 162 — embracing and allowing it to perdure and overcome it's cease of existence. For this reason, nature's field recordings are so interesting for me and takes me to research which kind of problematics exist on these spaces that had been modified throughout time, and whom, invite me to create a sensitive piece that can share my ideas of conservation. "Then, the work in Erica Madernsis was created with a technique of sonification of a small fragment of the DNA of the forementioned plant. This sonnification system was created during my stance in UNAM's Musical Technology MBA, which allows us to listen different combinatories in genetic coding. Then, its amusing to overlap the sound of water with DNA sonification, one with each other closely intertwoven , so it can be understood in a symbiotic existence. Additionally, an improv session was performed on violin, evoquing a feeling of perdurance of these plants which are narrowly diatributed geographically, but not least important for Madeira island's natural cycles." Đồng rúp mất giá so với đô la : Đây là hiện tượng nhất thời hay là dấu hiệu của một cuộc khủng hoảng ngầm đe dọa kinh tế Nga ? Làm thế nào để kinh tế vững mạnh khi « thiếu hụt hàng triệu nhân công », « đầu tư bị đóng băng » và phần lớn tăng trưởng có được là nhờ « đơn đặt hàng của nhà nước » ? Đâu là những giới hạn của mô hình « kinh tế phục vụ chiến tranh » mà Matxcơva đề xuất ? Hôm 06/12/2024, Hermann Gräf, lãnh đạo Sberbank, ngân hàng lớn nhất của Nga, báo động « kinh tế Nga đang tăng trưởng chậm lại », thậm chí có thể « vừa đối mặt với suy thoái đồng vừa bị lạm phát hoành hành », « nhiều người đi vay gặp khó khăn, đẩy các ngân hàng vào cùng cảnh ngộ ».Không chỉ điều hành ngân hàng lớn nhất nước Nga, Hermann Gräf nguyên là bộ trưởng bộ Phát Triển Kinh Tế từ 2000-2007. Một tuần trước đó, tổng thống Vladimir Putin trấn an công luận rằng Matxcơva hoàn toàn « làm chủ tình hình », « không có bất kỳ một lý do nào để phải lo lắng » vì một đợt trừng phạt mới Hoa Kỳ ban hành hôm 21/11/2024 nhắm vào nhiều ngân hàng của Nga đã khiến đồng rúp mất giá.Khả năng linh động của một nền kinh tế đồ sộ Giữa những phát biểu trái ngược nhau của tổng thống Vladimir Putin và cựu bộ trưởng bộ Phát Triển Kinh Tế Hermann Gräf,  trả lời RFI Việt ngữ hôm 02/12/2024, phó giám đốc Đài Quan Sát Pháp – Nga trụ sở tại Matxcơva, Igor Delanoë, phác họa toàn cảnh kinh tế Nga hiện nay:Igor Delanoë : « Kinh tế Nga tiến triển tốt hiểu theo nghĩa trong lịch sử, chưa bao giờ một nền kinh tế lại đang phải đối mặt với nhiều đòn trừng phạt như Nga hiện tại. Nga đang hứng chịu hàng ngàn biện pháp trừng hạt của Âu, Mỹ và các nước thân phương Tây. Trong hoàn cảnh đó, Nga đã thích nghi với tình hình, tổ chức lại cả hệ thống giao thương với phần còn lại của thế giới ngay từ năm 2022 và cho đến cuối 2023. Tăng trưởng của Nga năm nay dự trù ở mức từ 3 đến 4 %. Tuy nhiên, bắt đầu có nhiều dấu hiệu đáng lo ngại.Trước hết, kinh tế Nga đang hoạt động hết công suất, cung cao hơn cầu. Thất nghiệp gần như không có, với tỷ lệ 2,3 %. Đây là một tin vui, song Nga đang trong tình trạng thiếu hụt lao động. Từ nay cho đến cuối thập niên 2020, Nga cần thêm 400.000 nhân viên du lịch, 400.000 người cho các nhà máy sản xuất vũ khí, 500.000 trong lĩnh vực nông nghiệp. Tình trạng thiếu hụt nguồn nhân lực được thể hiện cả trong hàng ngũ cán bộ có chuyên môn cao lẫn trong giới lao động chân tay. Điều đó tự nhiên đẩy lương của người đi làm lên cao, gây ra lạm phát ».Lãi xuất ngân hàng 21 % bóp ngạt tiêu thụ và đầu tưNhư ở tất cả mọi nơi trên thế giới, lạm phát luôn khiến các giới chức tài chính và kinh tế, tư nhân và cả các doanh nghiệp đau đầu. Riêng ở Matxcơva, bài toán thêm phức tạp. Sau một giai đoạn tương đối « dễ thở » trong năm 2023, lạm phát tại Nga tăng cao trở lại, ở mức trung bình gần 9 % theo thống kê chính thức của Ngân Hàng Trung Ương. Cuối tháng 10/2024 thống đốc Elvira Nabioullina nhìn nhận lạm phát trong một năm sẽ « cao hơn gấp đôi so với mục tiêu 4 % như đã đề xuất ». Trên thực tế, giá thực phẩm từ 1 năm qua tăng đến mức chóng mặt. Bơ sửa chẳng hạn, đắt hơn đến 25 % so với hồi mùa thu 2023. Chính vì thế mà để khống chế lạm phát phi mã, thống đốc Ngân Hàng Trung Ương Nga đã từng bước đẩy lãi suất chỉ đạo lên 19 rồi 21 % trong những tháng gần đây.Igor Delanoë : « Lạm phát hiện giao động ở mức gần 9 %, chính xác hơn là 8,7 %, theo thống kê của Ngân Hàng Trung Ương. Chính vì thế, thống đốc Elvira Nabioullina phải tăng lãi suất chỉ đạo. Hiện tại thì lãi suất ngân hàng ở Nga là 21 %. Đây là lãi suất còn cao hơn cả so với thời kỳ đầu chiến tranh Ukraina. Lạm phát ở Nga, như vừa nói, xuất phát từ tình trạng thiếu hụt nhân công và lương của người lao động được đẩy lên cao, kèm theo đó chính phủ đầu tư rất nhiều. Matxcơva mạnh mẽ bơm tiền vào các hoạt động kinh tế, chủ yếu vào cỗ máy công nghiệp quốc phòng (...) Có nhiều hệ lụy kèm theo. Trước hết đây không phải là lúc để tính đến chuyện đi vay tiền mua nhà, vì lãi suất ngân hàng quá đắt. Thậm chí lãi ngân hàng để mua nhà bị đẩy lên đến gần 30 %. Kèm theo đó là cả ngành xây dựng bị đình đốn. Hiện tại cũng không ai dám đi vay ngân hàng để mua xe hơi vì lý do tương tự. Tiêu thụ nội địa cũng bị chựng lại. Các doanh nghiệp tạm gác lại một số các dự án đầu tư vì lãi ngân hàng quá cao. Tựu chung khu vực sản xuất của Nga hiện tại trông đợi nhiều vào các đơn đặt hàng của nhà nước –nhất là các tập đoàn công nghiệp quốc phòng ».Nguy cơ khủng hoảng ngân hàng Hôm 21/10/2024, khi mà lãi suất ngân hàng của Nga mới chỉ là 19 %, lãnh đạo Rostec, một tập đoàn công nghiệp lưỡng dụng của nhà nước (cung cấp các sản phẩm phục vụ trong lĩnh vực dân sự và quân sự) báo động « lãi suất cao như vậy là một trở ngại cho tăng trưởng và trong tương lai nhiều tập đoàn bị đe dọa phá sản ». Thông tín viên của nhật báo kinh tế Pháp Les Echos (13/11/2024) ghi nhận bơ sữa ở Nga đang trở thành hàng xa xỉ, phần lớn các siêu thị chỉ còn bán những gói bơ 100 g thay vì 250 g, để « phù hợp với túi tiền của phần lớn người tiêu dùng ».Trong phiên giao dịch 27/11/2024, tỷ giá hối đoái giữa rúp và đô la rơi xuống mức « thấp nhất từ khi Nga khởi động chiến tranh Ukraina » 110 rúp mới mua được một đô la, gợi lại nỗi ám ảnh hồi mùa xuân 2022 : trong vài tuần lễ, đơn vị tiền tệ của Nga mất 1/3 trị giá so với đô la và euro. Tài sản của Nga ở nước ngoài bị phương Tây phong tỏa, Nga bị gạt ra khỏi hệ thống thanh toán ngân hàng quốc tế SWIFT và các biện pháp trừng phạt được ví là những « vũ khí hạng nặng » của Hoa Kỳ, của Liên Âu, nhóm 7 nước công nghiệp phát triển nhất thế giới bắt đầu tập trung nhắm vào Matxcơva.Trên mặt trận kinh tế và tiền tệ, vị tướng đắc lực nhất giúp tổng thống Putin chính là thống đốc Ngân Hàng Trung Ương Nga, Elvira Nabioullina : Bà đòi các nhà xuất phải hoán chuyển 80 % dự trữ ngoại tệ sang đồng rúp (tức phải bán euro, đô la để đổi lấy rúp) và quy định tư nhân không được rút ngoại tệ quá mức tương đương với 10.000 đô la/ năm. Cùng lúc đó cũng là thời điểm mà Châu Âu hối hả tích trữ thêm dầu khí của Nga trước khi « quá trễ và tình hình trở nên xấu đi hơn ». Giá năng lượng trên thế giới trong năm 2022 và một phần lớn của 2023 đã được đẩy lên cao. Ngoại tệ và thu nhập từ dầu hỏa, khí đốt vẫn « đổ vào » ngân sách của Liên bang Nga. Nhờ những biện pháp này đồng tiền Nga từng bước được ổn định. Đó cũng là thời điểm lạm phát tại Nga vượt ngưỡng 10 % trước khi rơi xuống khoảng 7 % trong năm 2023.Các viện nghiên cứu Nga hoài nghi về thực trạng của nền kinh tế nước nhà ?Cuối 2024, chiến tranh Ukraina chuẩn bị bước sang năm thứ ba. Ngay tại Matxcơva, một vài viện thống kê e rằng lạm phát khó mà giữ được ở ngưỡng dưới 9 % như thẩm định của Ngân Hàng Trung Ương. Lý do : Mô hình kinh tế phục vụ cho chiến tranh của tổng thống Vladimir Putin huy động 40 % ngân sách quốc gia cho an ninh và quốc phòng, trong khi các khoản chi tiêu xã hội cho tài khóa 2025 dự trù còn bị cắt giảm thêm nữa, khi mà « 1/3 người dân Nga không có tiền tiết kiệm » theo thăm dò gần đây của Viện Levada.Cùng lúc dự trữ tiền tệ của nước Nga (không kể khoản tài sản 350 tỷ đô la ở hải ngoại đang bị phong tỏa) trong ba năm qua đang từ 118 tỷ đô la nay chỉ còn 55 tỷ, thu nhập từ các nguồn xuất khẩu năng lượng của Nga giảm mạnh. Hôm 21/11/2024, hai tháng trước khi rời khỏi quyền lực, chính quyền Joe Biden ban hành thêm một đợt trừng phạt mới, nhắm vào một trong những tập đoàn ngân hàng hiếm hoi mà đến nay vẫn là nhịp cầu để đưa ngoại tệ vào Nga. Theo Igor Delanoë, phó giám đốc Đài Quan Sát Pháp Nga, đây là một trong những đòn mạnh làm khuynh đảo đồng rúp trong tuần lễ cuối tháng 11 - đầu tháng 12/2024.Igor Delanoë : « Có nhiều yếu tố giải thích vì sao đồng rúp trượt giá. Như vừa nói, đó là do Ngân Hàng Trung Ương tăng lãi suất chỉ đạo, để kềm hãm lạm phát. Tác động kèm theo là đồng tiền quốc gia mất giá. Thoạt nhìn, điều đó có lợi cho xuất khẩu của Nga. Tuy nhiên, bên cạnh đó, từ khi bị phương Tây trừng phạt, đô la và euro trở nên khan hiếm. Theo luật cung cầu, đơn vị tiền tệ của Nga bị suy yếu tức là càng lúc càng phải huy động nhiều rúp để đổi lấy đô la hay là đồng euro của châu Âu. Yếu tố thứ ba xuất phát từ quyết định của Washington đưa thêm ngân hàng Gazprobank, cổng vào tài chính của tập đoàn năng lượng Nga Gazprom, vào danh sách trừng phạt. Cho đến nay, Gazprobank là một trong những ngân hàng hiếm hoi của Nga không bị phương Tây trừng phạt, vẫn được thanh toán với các khách hàng bằng đô la hay euro. Nhờ vậy mà Gazprom vẫn hoạt động gần như bình thường. Nhưng quyết định vừa qua của Mỹ nghiêm trọng đến nỗi, ngay lập tức, nhiều nước như Nhật Bản hay Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ đã lập tức đàm phán với Hoa Kỳ để xin được hưởng ưu đãi, tức là vẫn được giao dịch với Gazprom bằng ngoại tệ qua trung gian của ngân hàng Gazprobank. Đây là một đòn mạnh Mỹ nhắm vào đồng rúp. Lý do thứ tư khiến đồng tiền của Nga mất giá trong những ngày cuối tháng  2024 là các tính toán đầu cơ. Nhiều người đánh cược là khi đồng rúp bị mất giá, Nga và các bạn hàng sẽ chuyển sang thanh toán bằng đồng rupi của Ấn Độ thay đồng nhân dân tệ của Trung Quốc … mà không cần qua trung gian của đô la hay euro. Hình thức thanh toán này sẽ cho phép Nga xuất khẩu nhiều hơn, có thêm ngoại tệ và đồng tiền của Nga qua đó sẽ mạnh lên trở lại nhờ xuất khẩu ».Ít lạc quan hơn Igor Delanoë, một số tiếng nói khác e rằng, đồng rúp mất giá so với đô la trong tuần lễ cuối tháng 11 - đầu tháng 12/2024 không chỉ là một hiện tượng nhất thời, mà đó là « dấu hiệu của một cuộc khủng hoảng ngầm đe dọa kinh tế Nga ». Đành rằng một đồng rúp « yếu » so với euro và đô la có lợi cho xuất khẩu của Nga, nhưng đừng quên rằng Nga cũng cần nhập khẩu hàng: Năm 2022, Nga nhập khẩu 81 triệu đô la điện từ Litva, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan và Mông Cổ.Song các doanh nghiệp ở Nga, các hộ gia đình ở nước này, cũng như các giới chức tại Matxcơva đã nhiều lần chứng minh rằng « cái khó ló cái khôn » và ở mỗi cấp, mọi người đều tìm cho mình một ngõ thoát hiểm. Ngân Hàng Trung Ương Nga chẳng hạn đã quyết định « đình chỉ các dịch vụ mua vào ngoại tệ trên thị trường nội địa từ nay đến cuối năm (2024) » để giữ giá cho đồng rúp.

My guest today, Emily Levada, is a seasoned Chief Product & Technology Officer. Currently, she is the Chief Product Officer and Interim co-CEO at Embark Veterinary, a company dedicated to leveraging genetics to enhance the health and longevity of dogs. During her tenure, the company has achieved notable recognition, ranking as the #3 fastest-growing private company in Massachusetts and earning a spot on Forbes' list of promising venture-backed startups. She also serves as a Board Member at JCC Greater Boston, bringing her expertise to contribute to the organization's growth and development and holds a significant role as a Member of the Customer Advisory Board at UserTesting, where she actively engages in guiding and advising the company. Emily is also a two-time podcast guest, my first ever!  We did an episode a few years back where she shared some wonderful insights and frameworks about Trust, Communication and Psychological Safety in teams. Emily was also gracious enough to be a guest mentor for the Innovation Leadership Accelerator cohort I co-ran with my friend Jay Melone from the product innovation consultancy New Haircut some years back.  In this conversation, we sat down to talk about managing organizational emotions, especially negative emotions, and especially during critical junctures, like layoffs - something that many folks have been through, and many folks in the past year. I knew that Emily had some experience with this in the past and had some great thinking to share around this crucial leadership topic.  There's no *good* side to be on in a downsizing event - the people who are losing their jobs and income are also losing a sense of identity and need to navigate an uncertain future. But the loss of identity and the need to face an uncertain future is also true for the folks who are still with the company - both the “rank and file” and the leadership.  Layoffs done poorly can dent a company culture. Emily emphasized the importance of transparency in the period leading up to a layoff, as it builds trust and can mitigate negative emotions.  On the other hand, leaders often have a desire to protect people from such difficult conversations until the last possible moment, so the whole team can focus on their day-to-day jobs. I explored this polar tension between these two fundamental values, transparency and protection, with Emily using a tool called Polarity Mapping, developed by Barry Johnson Ph.D., the creator (and registered trademark holder!) of The Polarity Map®! You can read more about polarity mapping in my friend Stephen Andserson's short blog post here and check out Dr. Johnson's company, Polarity Partnerships here. IMHO, Stephen's version of Barry's diagram (below) is a bit clearer! The basic idea of Polarity mapping is that often we feel pulled by two values, like: Should we focus on Innovation or Efficiency?  Should we prioritize Deadlines or Quality? Growth vs. Consolidation? Short-term Gains vs. Long-term Organic Growth? Centralization vs. Decentralization? (thanks for these examples, Stephen!) In my own coaching work, I've found leaders can struggle to navigate conflicting parts of themselves, forming inner polar tensions that leave them feeling stuck, like:  “I need to be flexible vs I need to be firm” “I need to lead the conversation vs I need to let the conversation flow” “I need to be aggressive or I have to be more passive” “I need to listen more vs I feel the need to fix challenges” “I want to be authentically myself vs I need to be a chameleon to get by” And because we get pulled between them, and feel the polarity to be an unwinnable double bind of “damned if I do,” we kind of flub the balancing act. Polarity mapping asks us to be ultra-specific about the positives of both values AND to be very clear on the downsides of over-indexing on one value to the detriment of the other. Doing a mapping like this can help us thread the needle of polarity, and look out for the early warning signs of over-indexing in one direction or another. Below is a version of a polarity map for the tension Emily describes in our conversation, between Transparency and Protection. Emily points out that these polarities pop up, not just at crucial moments in a business like layoffs, but in day-to-day operations, too. Leaders can feel that Emotions are Inconvenient, but Team Emotions have real impact Emily shares the top three negative organizational emotions she finds can deeply impact a team's ability to learn (ie, be willing to experiment), be creative (ie, being able to innovate) and be fundamentally effective: Anxiety (Fear)BoredomApathy Fear, anxiety, and boredom are detrimental to creativity and productivity in knowledge work. Leaders need to address these emotions and create an environment that fosters engagement and challenge - and ultimately, create a learning organization. “People cannot do creative knowledge work when they feel fear and anxiety and boredom. Those things are just incompatible.” Emily suggests that well-run one-on-one meetings are crucial for understanding how team members are feeling and detecting signs of overwhelm, underwhelm, or “whelm” in their job. One-on-ones can help build a foundation of trust and safety, on which we can build honest and productive conversations. Emily also shares some straightforward approaches for shifting these key negative emotions: Anxiety: focus on building psychological safety for teams experiencing anxiety, and provide more transparency and context. A história da cirurgia robótica A tecnologia robótica já existia, mas por volta de 1998 começou a ser usada para cirurgias com propósito militar, a partir da junção de 3 empresas diferentes. Para o uso civil, o uso foi iniciado nos anos 2000 pela empresa que domina 95% do mercado mundial: a Intuitive (com o robô Da Vinci). O crescimento da cirurgia robótica A 1ª cirurgia foi feita na Alemanha. Levada por um fellow para os EUA, em 8 anos, a ténica ganhou tração. Hoje, ela está presente em 80% das cirurgias de próstata por lá. No Brasil, a 1ª cirurgia foi feita em 2008, mas não havia referências nacionais na época e a técnica estava em amadurecimento. Em 2010, os médicos brasileiros que fizeram treinamento fora, voltaram ao Brasil e a técnica ganhou tração. 2 elementos impediram um maior avanço no Brasil no início: custo alto e pouca conscientização da população quanto à técnica. Com os treinamentos de fellows a partir de 2013, a cirurgia robótica se difundiu no país, mas com 60% dos equipamentos concentrados na região Sudeste. Treinamento e regulamentação Aumento dos programas de treinamento em cirurgia  robótica e a regulamentação, em 2022, desses treinamentos pela Sociedade Brasileira com certificação estão abrindo espaço para mais médicos. O Instituto de Urologia Robótica e Oncologia (IURO) oferece certificação por equivalência há 2 anos. Vantagem da cirurgia robótica Para o paciente: recuperação mais rápida. Para o médico: a curva de aprendizagem da robótica é mais rápida, comparando com a cirurgia por vídeo e 90% do controle está com o cirurgião. Para aumentar o acesso Aumentar a concorrência de consoles, retirar as barreiras para importação de tecnologia hardware para o Brasil, trazer equidade no treinamento dos médicos e disponibilidade fora dos grandes centros urbanos. Por que começar com a Urologia Porque a cirurgia de próstata é desafiadora, reconstrutiva, o alvo é fixo, o que facilita o desenvolvimento de equipamentos, e há o contato com praticamente todos os sistemas do corpo: um verdadeiro laboratório. His father is Mestre Cosme and his Mother: Celinha who was a Samba interpreter and 1st woman to be a director in a Samba school! Waguinho started with the kids Bateria of Acadêmicos do Engenho da Rainha and then played in the Famous kids Bateria of Mestre Odilon at Ilha do Governador! Soon after, he joined the Repique Solos team at Engenho da Rainha! But the first time he was the repique soloist in a grupo especial school was at Estácio de Sá, at the invitation of Mestre Ciça. Soon after Waguinho was Repique Soloist in Porto da Pedra, Caprichosos de Pilares, Mocidade, Unidos Da Tijuca and Viradouro. At these schools he not only played but became Director, participating in the technical work in the formation of new Rhythmists and became a part of the Creation of Arrangements and Paradinhas of these schools. He alone has created 55 Paradinhas! Waguinho is one of the people responsible for the rise of Repique Mor which he learned at Beija flor. He is the creator of the original Naipe and Levada played at Cabula, a school which he also paraded. Waguinho proposed the idea of having repique mor to Mestre Casa Grande for Unidos da Tijuca, Pura Cadência. Casa Grande gave him a lot of freedom to tread a new path for the instrument within the school. Repique Mor generated a lot of prominence because only Tijuca did it at the time, but other baterias were interested. Waguinho after the success of Naipe in Tijuca, implanted Repique MOR in Salgueiro's Bateria. Waguinhow took the drum to an Ensaio once and played it. Mestre Marcão and his board liked it and so Repique Mor was placed in Salgueiro and is still played there, because of his efforts. Waguinho became involved as a percussionist with the social project of the great musician Robertinho Silva. Waguinho played for years as a guest musician on the annual Samba School CD Production and had the honor of playing and sharing theStage with: Simone, Daniela Mercury, Fernanda Abreu, Ana Costa, Beth Carvalho, Iza, Martinho da Vila, Diogo Nogueira, Zeca Pagodinho, Gabriel Moura, Arlindo Cruz. He is also a key member/faculty of the group, Batuque Digital. Waguinho travels the world doing workshops and shows, in countries such as Germany, China, England, Russia, France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Mexico, and Argentina! Currently, Waguinho is Mestre of Bloco Escangalha which is known for having students who play original Levadas of Drums. Waguinho is part of the Team of the (web)Site Apoteose, the Largest Drum Site in the world, where he is one of the commentators alongside fellow percussionist, Thalita Santos. Waguino is about to launch his Project "Entrando no Ritmo com Waguinho do Repique". He has videos showing techniques for each drum from beginners to advanced. He's collaborated with the mestres of each samba school to ensure that all the levadas are correct. While there's no shortage of efforts to read the Russian president's mind, a more grounded approach would be to examine the intelligence that shapes Putin's policymaking. One of the Kremlin's best-trusted sources of information about popular moods is the sociological work conducted by the country's Secret Service, the Federal Protective Service (FSO).  Most Russians are unaware that the FSO, in addition to guarding top state officials, is responsible for conducting sociological surveys and monitoring popular opinion and the country's political situation. The agency's findings are never published, but these data inform some of President Putin's biggest decisions. For example, fairly recently, FSO polls showing rising national discontent reportedly influenced the Putin administration's decision to expedite the reopening of Moscow and the rollback of its coronavirus quarantine measures. To learn more about this kind of polling and the state of sociological research generally in Russia, “The Naked Pravda” turned to two sociologists who work on Russia: (4:41) Denis Volkov, the deputy director at the Levada Center, explains how Russia's elites interpret and utilize polling. Today's topic is "Russians Vote to Allow Putin to Rule Until 2036" According to election officials, nearly 78% of Russian voters have approved a set of constitutional amendments that clear the way for President Vladimir Putin to rule Russia until 2036. Turnout across the country was said to be almost 68% over seven days of voting that concluded July 1. The amendment that allows Putin to run for two more six-year terms after his current one expires in 2024 was part of a package of constitutional changes that also outlaw same-sex marriage, mention "a belief in God as a core value" and emphasize Russian law over international norms. Voters could not vote on the individual amendments but only on the entire set. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the results were "a triumphant referendum on trust in President Putin." But Putin's critics argued that the results were rigged and didn't reflect decreasing enthusiasm for the once-popular president. Putin's approval rating was at 59% in May, according to the Levada Center, Russia's top independent pollster. The lowest in two decades, the numbers have been steadily going down in the past five years amid growing frustration over declining living standards. Critics pointed to a number of irregularities, as well as a lack of transparency and independent monitoring of voting that they said undermined the validity of the results. For the first time in Russia, polls were kept open for an entire week, with ballot boxes unattended at night. Voting also took place outside polling stations — in some instances on street benches, tree stumps and in the trunks of cars — as well as online in some places, including Moscow. Golos, Russia's top independent election monitoring group, called the results "falsified." Dmitry Gudkov, a former lawmaker and now an opposition leader, pointed to independent exit polls that reported over 54% of more than 5,000 respondents in Moscow, and 63% of nearly 3,000 respondents in St. Petersburg, voted against the amendments. A nationwide poll by Levada showed that 68% of those who had cast their ballot by June 27 voted "yes," and 54% of those who hadn't would approve the amendments.
