In Part 1 of our deep-dive conversation, I'm joined by one of the most influential visual storytellers in comics — Alex Ross. We begin with a look at Alex's current exhibit, “Heroes and Villains”, now on display at the Dunn Museum in Libertyville, Illinois. It's a stunning showcase of his iconic artwork, celebrating both the legendary figures of comics and the craftsmanship behind them. From there, we dive into Alex's work spotlighting public domain superheroes of the 1940s, and we discuss the looming creative shift coming in the 2030s, when characters like Superman and Batman may enter the public domain — and what kind of storytelling opportunities or chaos that might unlock. We also revisit Alex's graphic novel Fantastic Four: Full Circle, talk about his thoughts on the new Superman movie, and touch on his conversations with Marvel Studios creatives about the evolution of the MCU. Finally, we explore Alex's candid thoughts on the rise of AI in film and television, its potential dangers for artists, and how creators need to prepare for this rapidly changing landscape. It's a wide-ranging conversation with one of comics' true visionaries.

The salient point of today's discussion revolves around the profound themes of societal and individual responsibility as portrayed in the new MCU series "Ironheart" and the film "Jurassic World: Rebirth." Joshua Noel and TJ Blackwell delve into how these narratives reflect the complexities of life, faith, and the moral dilemmas associated with technological advancements and ecological stewardship. Particularly, we explore the character development of Riri Williams, who embodies the struggle against systemic barriers, juxtaposed with the existential challenges faced by the dinosaurs in "Jurassic World: Rebirth." The conversations reveal not only the entertainment value of these new IPs but also their capacity to provoke thoughtful reflection on our values and beliefs as a society. Through our analysis, we aim to illuminate the intersection of faith and fandom, encouraging listeners to engage with these stories on a deeper level. The episode begins with an exploration of the current state of fandoms, particularly focusing on the recent releases of the Ironheart television series and the Jurassic World Rebirth film. The hosts, Joshua Noel and TJ (Tiberius Juan) Blackwell engage in a lively discussion about the themes and narratives presented in these works. They emphasize the significance of representation in media, specifically noting how Ironheart serves as a platform for diverse storytelling. The conversation then transitions to the Jurassic World Rebirth film, where the hosts critique its plot, character development, and the underlying messages regarding environmentalism and the ethical treatment of creatures that exist beyond human control. They express admiration for the film's ability to intertwine entertainment with deeper societal issues, ultimately leading to a rich dialogue about the implications of mixing technology with nature. Throughout the episode, the hosts invite listener interaction, encouraging them to share their thoughts on the material discussed, thereby fostering a sense of community among the audience.Takeaways: The podcast episode discusses the themes of accessibility and affordability in technology, particularly in relation to the new Ironheart series and the Jurassic World Rebirth film. We explore the differing characterizations of Riri Williams in the comic versus the television adaptation, noting her development from a flawless character to one with relatable flaws. The conversation emphasizes the importance of valuing all forms of life, as highlighted by the narrative arcs in both Ironheart and Jurassic World Rebirth. The hosts reflect on the implications of using technology as a means to cope with loss, raising questions about the morality of resurrecting loved ones through AI. A significant theme involves the critique of capitalism in the pharmaceutical industry, questioning who truly benefits from scientific advancements and technological developments. The episode concludes with a discussion on the potential for future Jurassic World content, particularly a desire for horror elements in upcoming video games or films. .We discuss all this and more in this one! Timestamps:00:00:00 Nerd Culture 21700:00:11 Wat gaan we vandaag doen? 00:01:16 Wat hebben we gekeken/gelezen/geluisterd?00:01:30 TMNT00:03:51 Coming Out of Their Shells Tour00:10:22 Dino Riders00:15:46 Early Edition00:18:34 Star Trek: The Next Generation00:20:40 Star Trek: Voyager00:26:17 Dommel / Boes (en de Japanse dub)00:30:30 Thunderbolts00:33:52 The New Superman00:36:23 Huey vanaf The Daily Planet00:42:57 Superman Review00:52:55 Hot Spring Shark Attack Trailer00:54:47 James Carter Cathcart op 71-jarige leeftijd overleden00:56:19 Superman voorbij $200 miljoen dollar en scoort hoog00:58:57 Nathan Fillion over zijn Green Lantern01:00:04 James Gunn zei nee tegen Superman in 201801:02:18 David Corenswet hoopt ooit in Star Wars te kunnen spelen01:03:42 Hot Toys komt met awesome Superman figurine01:05:25 Anthony Starr reageert op Homelander bij Superman premiere01:06:06 De plannen van James Gunn voor het DC universum01:07:04 DC probeerde Kevin Feige te kapen bij Marvel01:08:12 Chief of War Trailer01:11:25 Een tipje van de sluier over Pirates of the Caribbean 601:12:59 Wie is de meest winstgevende acteur in Hollywood?01:16:39 Script voor Top Gun 3 heeft een GO gekregen01:21:01 Twisted Metal Season 2 Trailer

David Corenswet dons the red booty shorts and cape for yet another reinvention of DC's classic flying boy scout as he battles negativity, the memory of Henry Cavill, and Nicholas Hoult's devious Lex Luthor in a massive reinvention of the DC Universe (DCU). Rachel Brosnahan joins in as Lois Lane to round out a stellar cast in James Gunn's attempt to revitalize the superhero genre at the box office. Does it work? Listen and find out! Not only is DC Studios reinventing their entire slate, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe has just wrapped up their entire slate of films and TV shows from Phase 5 as they prepare to launch Phase 6 of the MCU later this month with The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
