Steven and Ian open with an acknowledgement of the show's fifth anniversary, which actually occurred a few weeks ago (0:30). From there, they note the announcement of yet another new Taylor Swift album and liken her to the MCU (3:43). They also talk about Steven's son recently getting into Eminem, and the scarcity of "danger-coded" music now (11:45). After that, they talk about the new Ethel Cain album and disagree slightly on its strengths and weaknesses (24:13). They also note the arrival of a new Chance The Rapper album, and how such news would have been a much bigger deal 10 years ago (33:43). Then they do a "yay or nay" on My Chemical Romance (46:00).In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about the slow-core band Teethe and Steven goes for veteran indie rocker Cass McCombs (49:52).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. [School of Movies 2025] This film began life before James Gunn was abruptly fired overnight, by Marvel. It languished for years through the triumph of Endgame, then the Pandemic, and Gunn's hiring by DC to direct their Suicide Squad sequel. The man who came back to pick up the script had been changed, and while Superman (2025) shows the sheer optimistic joy he's capable of imbuing his projects with, this farewell to the Guardians is a dark, furious requiem of betrayal, loss, bitter conflict and ultimately redemption. In choosing to make it all about Rocket Raccoon, the secret weapon of the MCU was taken out of the picture. He is attacked by newcomer Adam Warlock on Knowhere home turf, in a failed act of corporate reclamation. His killswitch is triggered, leaving him in a coma and it is up to the Guardians to investigate the Doctor Moreau-inspired High Evolutionary, and find out how to bring Rocket back. This leaves him absent for much of the present-day movie, stuck reliving his tragic past, and the earliest friends he made. These tragic events would twist his future actions into those of anger and neurotic rejection of even his closest companions. It is unlike any other MCU film, deeply personal and imbued with such vociferous anger that it actually becomes a mess, half hanging onto what was originally intended, half channelling the mixed, spiking emotions of going back to deal with your monster, saying goodbye to your dear friends and moving on to other and better things. The world is better for the confluence of events that led us to getting our new Superman and a brighter future of the DC Universe, but it was Gunn who took the damage, and this film exemplifies that. Natasha Romanoff. Daughter. Sister. Avenger.Natasha made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Iron Man 2 as a mysterious S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, quickly becoming a core member of the Avengers despite lacking superpowers. The character evolved from a supporting femme fatale into one of the MCU's most complex heroes; a former Russian child assassin grappling with her dark past while seeking redemption through heroic acts, and finally finding a family. Her journey culminated in the ultimate sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, giving her life to obtain the Soul Stone and save the universe.Marvel had been talking about a solo Black Widow film for years since her 2010 debut, but it had never come to pass. It's not the first time a solo film had been talked about for Natasha Romanoff. Lions Gate held the rights to the character in the early 2000s, but that movie idea was scuppered due to the failure of other female-led action movies. Black Widow's solo film finally arrived in 2021, making it an eleven-year wait from her MCU introduction. The delay was attributed to Marvel's former leadership's reluctance to greenlight female-led superhero films, concerns about their commercial viability, as well as the planned Infinity Saga narrative needing to focus on introducing other characters, like Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Black Widow would give fans a much-needed backstory for Natasha, as well as introduce her sister, Yelena. The importance of both characters extends beyond individual heroism to representation. Natasha proved female characters could carry major action sequences and emotional weight in the MCU, while Yelena's introduction ensures the Black Widow legacy continues, representing a new generation of complex female heroes who can anchor future MCU stories.I would love to hear your thoughts on Black Widow (2021) !Verbal Diorama is now an award-winning podcast! Dan and Raul can't talk about the Fantastic Four: First Steps without the stalwart Jonnie to round out the comic adaptation team, and the three launch into a space spanning story about parenthood that brings Marvel's first family to the big screen again. This round, the story is expected to tie into the ongoing timeline that's being shepherded by the House of Mouse as opposed to the previous stand-alone attempts, but is the franchise cache enough to make this into a Galactus-man-sized hit or do the crowds clamor for the original cloud-based menace of the older films? Marvel's first family comes home as The Fantastic Four make their MCU debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the 37th film in the series. That number is not a reference to Clerks, though Dante would probably feel the same disgust towards Marvel as he did his girlfriend when he learned about her and the number 37. There have been 37 films released as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which feels like the right moment for the comic OGs to check-in for the first time. Because of this staggering number, Danny and Kevin do everything they can to avoid talking about the film. There was no Mike Francesa talk this week, but the duo do question whether or not Shrek is more culturally relevant than The Avengers, why the MCU is losing its imprint on the industry, and if Franklin Richards was conceived immaculately. Send us a textThe Fantastic Four has finally arrived in the MCU, but not in the way anyone expected. Rather than another tired origin story, we're dropped into Universe 828—a gorgeously realized retro-futuristic world where Marvel's First Family are already established heroes beloved by the public. What makes this film truly special is how it balances cosmic spectacle with intimate family drama. When we meet Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben, they're facing their greatest challenge yet: impending parenthood. Sue Storm is pregnant, and Reed's anxiety about what their altered genetics might mean for their child drives much of the emotional narrative. Pedro Pascal brings a fascinating vulnerability to Reed Richards—a brilliant mind constantly plagued by feelings of inadequacy, always believing he should be able to do more.Vanessa Kirby delivers what might be the definitive Sue Storm performance, finally showcasing the character's immense power that comic readers have known about for decades. The climactic sequence where she confronts Galactus while literally in labor is both visually stunning and emotionally resonant—a mother's fierce protection taken to cosmic levels. Meanwhile, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach bring fresh energy to Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm respectively, with their relationship capturing that perfect balance of friendly ribbing and genuine brotherhood. The film's visual aesthetic deserves special mention—Universe 828 feels like tomorrow as imagined in the 1960s, with flying cars, impossible architecture, and a sense of optimism that's been missing from recent superhero fare. This distinct setting, coupled with the post-credits tease of Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom appearing in Franklin Richards' nursery, suggests an exciting direction for the future of the MCU.Whether you're a longtime Fantastic Four fan or completely new to these characters, this film offers something genuinely fresh in the superhero landscape. It reminds us why these characters have endured for over sixty years—because at their heart, they're not just superheroes, they're family. And that's fantastic.Twitter handles:Project Geekology: https://twitter.com/pgeekologyAnthony's Twitter: https://twitter.com/odysseyswowDakota's Twitter: https://twitter.com/geekritique_dakInstagram:https://instagram.com/projectgeekology?igshid=1v0sits7ipq9yYouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@projectgeekologyGeekritique (Dakota):https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBwciIqOoHwIx_uXtYTSEbANew Video: The Divine Structure Hidden in Superman's Timeline: https://youtu.be/iHgcBcCSJgM?si=9xmcl76NZR3Sdx3wSupport the show

We're covering some great fandom topics. We start off with talking about the music she grew up with. From Alt. Rock, Emo, and Screamo, to focusing on My Chemical Romance, we cover what Sky enjoyed and still enjoys to this day. We talk a bit about the MCR lore, along with the album she'd recommend people listen to if they're first getting into MCR. From there, we get to talking about Marvel. Sky's introduction to Marvel originates from a variety of entry points. From animation and comics, to video games, leading ultimately to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We talk about characters like Kitty Pryde, the Rogue/Gambit pairing, and some of her favorite MCU movies. Then, it's time to go to a galaxy far, far away, with Star Wars. Sky's entry point is one of the most unique ones I've encountered, so no spoilers here. You'll have to listen to the episode. We talk about two of her favorite characters - Bo Katan and Jyn Erso, and why they resonate with her. Sky talks about the various Star Wars media she likes, her favorites, and the wait for the Mandalorian and Grogu movie next year. Lastly, we wrap up with Cosplay. Sky talks about how she first got into Cosplay, some of her favorite cosplay pieces that she's done, including one where a cast member took a picture of it and shared it with the rest of the cast, and more. We talk about competitions, judging, and her future cosplay projects.
