Was man erlebt, wenn der Formel-1-Zampano "not amused" ist, das erfahrt ihr in dieser Folge!

The UAW's Southern Gamble: Organizing Workers at Foreign-Owned Vehicle Plants (IRL Press, 2023) is the first in-depth assessment of the United Auto Workers' efforts to organize foreign vehicle plants (Daimler-Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Volkswagen) in the American South since 1989, an era when union membership declined precipitously. Stephen J. Silvia chronicles transnational union cooperation between the UAW and its counterparts in Brazil, France, Germany, and Japan and documents the development of employer strategies that have proven increasingly effective at thwarting unionization. Silvia shows that when organizing, unions must now fight on three fronts: at the worksite; in the corporate boardroom; and in the political realm. The UAW's Southern Gamble makes clear that the UAW's failed campaigns in the South can teach hard-won lessons about challenging the structural and legal roadblocks to union participation and effectively organizing workers within and beyond the auto industry. Stephen J. Silvia is a Professor at American University's School of International Service, where he teaches international economics, international trade relations, and comparative politics. The FIA is the governing body for world motor sport, including Formula One, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and some of the world's most exciting motorsports races on and off the track. Natalie shares her leadership story, shifting from auto production at Volvo, Nissan, and DaimlerChrysler, to auto racing. She talks about how she and the FIA team manage the challenges and complexity involved in managing 24 races in 21 countries on five continents, working with a variety of stakeholders, local politics and regulations to make it all happen successfully and safely. Natalie talks about how the FIA parses through the more than three terabytes of data per Formula One car per race weekend to share data between competitions, which helps foster innovation and safety. All that data also helps inform sustainability as well, as Natalie outlines how the FIA plans to achieve their commitment to net zero emissions by 2030. We'll also hear from Dee Fitzgerald, a Managing Director in our Sydney office, who highlights how important it is for CEOs to have the right top team around them, and the five actions CEOs can take to maximize C-suite performance. Giant Ventures is a multi stage venture fund, founded by Cameron McLain and Tommy Stadlen. We recorded these first episodes at our live Giant Ideas summit, held at London's Tate Modern. The Giant Ideas summit brings together 200 founders, CEOs, heads of state and other leaders to explore how we can harness cutting edge technology as a force for good. Today we bring you an interview with John Browne. Lord Browne is the former CEO of BP and now one of the world's most prominent climate tech investors. He has served on the boards of Goldman Sachs, Intel, DaimlerChrysler, and SmithKline Beecham.John joined BP out of university and rose up the ranks to become CEO between 1995 - 2007. He turned BP from a former national oil company into the world's third biggest corporation. He is widely regarded as one of the top CEOs ever to emerge from the UK. Two years into his tenure as BP CEO, John was accused of “leaving the church” by fellow Big Oil executives after a landmark speech at Stanford in 1997 in which he acknowledged that climate change was manmade and called for action. These words may be uncontroversial now, but in 1997 they were both brave and very important.Today John is the Founding Chairman of BeyondNetZero, a multibillion dollar climate fund launched with General Atlantic.John has been an influential advisory board member at Giant Ventures since we started the firm. He and I previously wrote a book together, Connect: How companies succeed by engaging radically with society. In this conversation with FT columnist and author Gillian Tett, John provides a state of the union on climate change, 25 years on from his historic Stanford speech. They cover everything from climate finance and carbon markets to the role of oil and gas companies in decarbonisation. The episode was recorded shortly before the UN COP climate talks - so you will hear John and Gillian debate the UAE's controversial role as COP host.Music credits: Bubble King written and produced by Cameron McLain and Stevan Cablayan aka Vector_XING.Building or investing in purpose driven companies? Daimler-Chrysler: Merger LessonsOn November 12, 1998, shareholders of automotive world voting in favor surprising union: Germany's Daimler-Benz AG and America's Chrysler Corporation merged, promising to reshape the car market's landscape. The Daimler-Chrysler alliance blended German engineering finesse with American innovation and mass appeal. Yet, this perfect union on paper became a complex, challenging journey falling short of expectations.Intending to create an automotive juggernaut, Daimler-Benz sought to tap into the American market, while Chrysler aimed to harness German technological prowess. Synergies appeared promising, but reality proved far more intricate. The primary challenge lay in clashing corporate cultures. Bridging the vast differences in management styles, communication approaches, and organizational structures proved daunting, hindering the merger's full potential. Daimler's luxury focus conflicted with Chrysler's mass appeal emphasis, rendering product integration and economies of scale unsuccessful. As time elapsed, cultural and strategic misalignments eroded synergies. Promised cost savings and market presence remained elusive, frustrating shareholders. In 2007, Daimler parted ways with Chrysler, selling it to Cerberus Capital Management—ending the Daimler-Chrysler era. This cautionary tale underscores the importance of cultural integration and strategic alignment in mergers. The failed mega-merger highlights the nuances of cross-border collaborations beyond financial considerations. The Daimler-Chrysler merger remains a pivotal moment in automotive history, offering lessons on global business partnerships' complexities and ingredients for a successful merger.www.nodrivingloves.com#cars #car #collectorcars #oldcars #cartalk #electriccars #ev #hotrod #carhistory #automotivehistory #automobile #thisdayinautomotivehistory #thisdayinhistory #classiccars #onthisday #NaPodPoMo #mergerofequals #mercedes #mercedes-benz #chrysler #bigbusiness

Adams spots a 1999 Plymouth Prowler, Daimler Chrysler's attempt to resurrect the hot rod. The guys agree that it was ugly then, and it's still ugly. In general, the best fix for a bad looking car is more power, but the Prowler's 253HP V6 provided neither a lot of oomph nor an attractive exhaust note. Eric DeVries is a seasoned tax, accounting, and technology expert with over 20 years of experience. He spent 11 years working on their National team at Pricewaterhouse Coopers and worked with Deloitte and DaimlerChrysler's North American headquarters. In 2008, he founded DEVRIESE & ASSOCIATES, a full-service CPA firm in Northern Florida. Building on his extensive experience and knowledge, he recognized a shift in the accounting industry. He founded RealTime CPAs, a one-of-a-kind firm that is paving the way for the industry's future.  In this conversation, Eric discusses how Dental CPAs differ from regular CPAs and how they help dentists in their practice. He talks about the current trend of dental practices acquired by DSOs, the challenges sellers face in navigating the marketplace, and the value of having representation during negotiations. Eric also shares stories about successful strategies that dentists have used to increase profitability in their practices, including holding staff accountable for treatment plans and using accountable plans for health insurance. Key Takeaways: Dental CPAs specialize in serving dentists and deeply understand the industry and its unique challenges. Selling a dental practice to a DSO can be a good option, but sellers should be aware of the equity play and the potential pitfalls of accepting unsolicited offers. Representation during negotiations can help level the playing field for sellers and ensure they get the best deal possible. Strategies such as holding staff accountable for treatment plans and using accountable plans for health insurance can help dentists increase profitability in their practices. Dental CPAs can also help sellers with representation during the selling process, ensuring they get the best deal possible. Dental practices are highly sought-after, and prices have increased significantly over the years due to competition from private equity firms and other buyers. Dental CPAs can provide valuable advice on increasing practice profitability, such as improving collections and case acceptance rates. Dental CPAs can also offer strategies for reducing healthcare costs, such as setting up an accountable plan for health insurance. Working with a Dental CPA can provide dentists with specialized expertise and advice tailored to their unique needs and challenges in the industry. Skorpion. 1963 in Bad Homburg geboren.

How Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius is refocusing for an electric future

Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius became CEO in 2019 but has been working for Mercedes since 1993 in almost every part of the company. During that period, Mercedes spent time getting a lot bigger; the company famously merged with Chrysler for a time, forming a giant called DaimlerChrysler. But, over the past few years, it's actually been getting much smaller and more focused. The Chrysler deal was undone and, just recently, Ola spun off the truck division into its own public company called Daimler Truck, leaving Mercedes-Benz to stand alone as a premium car brand. Car companies are either consolidating into giant conglomerates like Stellantis or shrinking and focusing like Mercedes. A lot of that is driven by the huge shift to electric vehicles and then, on top of that, to cars essentially becoming rolling computers. You'll hear Ola refer to cars as “digital products” a lot — and to Mercedes itself as a tech company. (Actually, he says it's a luxury and tech company.) Mercedes now has two new EVs, the EQS and the EQE, both of which have massive infotainment screens running Mercedes' proprietary MBUX system, which even has its own voice assistant called Hey Mercedes. I had to ask Ola about Apple's recent announcement that the next version of CarPlay would be able to take over every display in the car, including the instrument cluster. Apple showed a Mercedes logo on a slide during that presentation — so, is Ola ready to hand over his UI to Cupertino?  Let's find out. Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz. Here we go. Once she turned her hand fully to VC investing, since 2010, she moved to London and has invested in more than a dozen businesses in the last 12 years. She has also taught entrepreneurship to around 2,000 students at University College London and Imperial College. And before joining Notion, she spearheaded the European launch of Microsoft Ventures and led investments in Onfido, Beamery, and Unbabel. In the episode, we discuss why there is no one route to entering the VC industry and how product-led growth will be the key to the expansion, explosion, and even domination of European software companies globally. Itxaso also shares what traits she looks for in founders and what the best founders do to blow away investors beyond their entrepreneurial vision.

Are you ready for a brand new life rhythm? Today's guest Kristen Rzasa brings a unique approach to entrepreneurship. She's a life and business strategist and helps her clients find balance that leads to greater success. Kristen's brings her corporate and entrepreneurial experience to everything she does. Her corporate job was with Daimler Chrysler and she had a side hustle too. When she found herself outside of corporate, she went into fulltime entrepreneurship. After years of being driven, and successful she realized she was burned out and in danger of breaking down. Kristen made another big shift. That's where conversations about life rhythm began. She explains the 4 components that help her understand her client's priorities. It's eye-opening to hear how she can discover where things are out of alignment. You'll love the example Nancy shares. What if we said, “it's not a priority” instead of “I don't have time?” What would change for you? It's time to create a new rhythm in our lives. That begins with living our values. Reprioritizing what really matters to us is the first step Kristen takes with her clients. What are you waiting for? Today is the day. No more waiting until. Kristen shares how HAYVN has brought a sense of community that she realized she was missing. Collaboration and the opportunity to receive and give back is also fulfilling. Chris Denson is a man of many talents and interests. After earning a degree in packaging engineering and working for a few years as an engineer for Daimler-Chrysler, he packed up his Isuzu Rodeo and moved to LA based on a passing invitation from a TV executive who invited Chris to meet with him if he ever came to LA. Although the meeting never materialized, Chris stayed and began his illustrious career riding life's roller coaster as an innovator in the marketing world. While still in college, Chris began doing stand-up comedy in clubs, a pursuit that he continued for a number of years into his career. Most importantly, it was that work that built his skills and confidence in writing, developing a sense of timing, and dealing with rejection from others. He then carried those gifts into screenwriting, production, and building an expertise in marketing based on thoughtful innovation. In 2014, Chris launched his podcast, Innovation Crush, where he hosts conversations with leaders in the world of innovation. This year, he also released his book, Crushing the Box, 10 Essential Rules for Breaking Essential Rules. In our conversation, we dig into several areas that we share in common: persistence in the face of adversity, curiosity and asking more effective questions, a willingness to live in a moderate amount of uncertainty, constantly learning through an abundance of ‘micro-failures,” and the positive and negatives of being multi-hyphenated polymaths.
