Jeff and Phil welcome back pop cultural pals Rebecca Sun and Dino-Ray Ramos to discuss recent superhero movies like Superman and Fantastic Four: First Steps. (But really, a good excuse for friends to hang out and gab, because it's been a minute.) They talk about the so-called "woke" Superman, where the heck Shang-Chi has been, watching these movies in a world of real-life supervillains, and the significance of superhero narratives in the context of Asian American identity, history and culture.

Kelsi and Trey are back to discuss superheroes: we break down James Gunn's Superman and Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps, two attempts to reboot tired franchises with sincerity and with varying results. First, we dive into Gunn's earnest, squirrel-saving cutie Superman, Corenswet's surprising star turn, and the film's big ideas about media and occupation. Then we get into Fantastic Four's gorgeous retro-futurist world, Julia Garner's ethereal Silver Surfer, and a script that feels like it was written by four sitcom dads. Plus: summer movie shout-outs (Sorry Baby, Friendship, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Jurassic World: Rebirth), our superhero fatigue, and our hopes for a live-action Miles Morales and Batman Beyond. This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we are still down a Scot, as he is still unwell. But that will not slow him down in contributing to this ep! Before we get into the main segments, we chat about Ben & Frank's latest Plastic Addiction, in the form of Transformers Blokees! Prior to chatting about the Superman Film itself, we focus on the Toy likeness compared to what the actor actually looks like! With a little Jurassic World banter in between. Then, without another moment to spare, we get right into the James Gunn driven film itself! We chat towards our Cinema experiences and start off with a non-spoiler discussion; before we head into a chat about the whole Film itself! Giving it our typical DVG rating out of 19 too. Then changing gears, we introduce a New segment - named: Variant Schmariant! We each pick two variants of a pre-existing character (in toy form) that just doesn't need to exist. We unearth some quite silly versions of characters that had a legitimate Toy Release; that clearly logic was not a concern at all!! Plus we tie a nice bow around the proposed Nick-Names for both Frank & Scot. Enjoy!!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A NEW ERA OF HEROES!A WORLD EMBATTLED!THE PASSION OF RIVALRY AND HEATED DRAMA BETWEEN MEN!The sirens sing like soft jazz pumped through shopping mall speakers. Children look on, their eyes gleaming with excitement to see a glimpse of the masked heroes who will defeat the evil, rampaging Kaiju. Every day, the heroes will kill parents, children, and lovers... perhaps even their own. The crowds always cheer when the siren plays, even when the heroes have no heart for cheering. This month, Sara and Runa rush into the world of superheroes, kaiju, and conquering aliens from beyond the stars in the tokusatsu-inspired BL, uuultraC! Set in 1969, uuultraC takes us to a world where humans can become Kaiju and heroes are tasked with killing them publicly and without mercy. Becoming a Kaiju is fairly simple - the infection can spread through contact with Kaiju blood or sex with a Kaiju, and then it's as simple as raising your heartrate high enough that your body twists and transforms into a gigantic, monstrous form. Sometimes it happens when a Kaiju is enraged and lashes out in fury. Sometimes it happens when a defenseless Kaiju is attacked by a wild animal. No matter the case, their sentence is death, to be carried out as soon as the hero Icarus arrives. Adelta's uuultraC(2022) takes us through the story of three different protagonists and their relationships to Superheroes, Kaiju, gender, sexuality, the expectations of society, and their own futures. Shoutarou has always longed to be an actor in superhero dramas, but is that even possible for him after he's splashed with Kaiju blood? His boyfriend, Kozuka, has also been disappearing more and more recently, leaving Shoutarou wondering where the two of them really stand. Choutsugai is haunted by the memory of a young girl he fell in love with on the set of a movie when they were both children. As an adult, however, he discovers that the Belle he loves so dearly is Suzu Isshiki, a drag queen and Kaiju who wages a brutal war against the heroes. Standing above them all is Juurou Sayashi, the current suit actor for Sun-mask Icarus and the star of the hero shows that inspire and entertain the nation. He has always been the perfect, stoic hero... even though his true wish is to live quietly with his childhood friend, Yomi. Yomi, however, is hiding a secret that sits at the core of the conflict between Kaiju and Superheroes. Each of their stories explores the ways in which stigmatization and marginalization, especially of queerness, resonates with the stylized and idealized conflicts that play out between Heroes and Kaiju. As always, if you enjoy our show please consider supporting us by leaving a 5 star review on whatever platform you use to listen. The Warlock's Curse: An Epic D&D One-Shot on Mostly Superheroes This episode of the Mostly Superheroes podcast plunges listeners into a thrilling Dungeons & Dragons one-shot adventure titled "The Warlock's Curse," led by the esteemed Sam the DM. Hosts Logan Janis and Sam Zeller (also known as Sam the Sleeper), alongside Scotty Scoop, embark on a perilous journey as "The Fabulous Three." Logan Janis's character, Lorgan the Dragonborn Sorcerer, joins Sleeper the Elven Ranger, and Kilroy the Tiefling Warlock. Their quest for a shortcut through the ominous Whispering Wood takes an unexpected turn when they stumble upon "The Withered Rose Inn." Inside, they encounter Helga, the innkeeper, who offers free lodging in exchange for dealing with a mysterious, unsettling guest. This stranger, Sir Reginald, is revealed to be afflicted by a Warlock's Curse, slowly transforming him into a "rabid platypus." The only hope for a cure lies in a basin of holy water at an ancient, ruined temple deeper in the woods. The adventurers face immediate danger as zombies attack the inn, forcing them into a desperate battle. Lorgan the Sorcerer bravely engages with a Firebolt, and Kilroy's Warlock unleashes an Eldritch Blast. Amidst the chaos, Helga provides vital healing potions. The episode culminates in a tense moment as Lorgan the Sorcerer falls unconscious after being poisoned by an Imp, leaving the fate of the mission in the hands of Sleeper and Kilroy, with Sleeper using powerful, holy-water-boosted attacks to fight specters. And the Lorgan somehow pretty much saves the day! Hear Sam the DM do what he does best. Book him for the fun and easy (for me) D&D master in St. Louis! www.samthedm.com Top 10 Best Quotes from the podcast "It's my life's work to try to drag every single person I come across into playing this game, whether they like it or not." "Oh boy, you are stealthy today." "I have, but you can tell I barely fit in here." "My charisma is, my charisma. That is at the top of the list off the charts." "We have no, I had big dreams, I big dreams, yeah." "Remember that I did this for you, Kilroy." Time to SPIN THAT WHEEEEL! Back in 2021, in the thick of the pandemic, when we were all going a little stir crazy and desperately clinging to any ways to have human connection, an idea was born. From the rubble of boredom and the craving to do something new came an ambitious Top 5 improv-style game show called The Ranky Roulette. The show was a great success, and the plan was to do it once every single year with new guests, custom SFX, and bigger productions. Alas, things didn't work out that way, but as we near the end of this show, we would be remiss not to give this format another spin! So join your game show host Tuong La and comeback contestants Angus MacDonald, Samantha Leggatt, and Leslie Cserepy as they get another crack at showing off their ranking skills to be crowned the next "Ranky Ruler of the Realm"! Also featuring guest audio clips from past ranking legends: Chelsea Fahey, Brie Watson (The Constant Struggle Podcast), and Simone Dorie. An episode that deeply values justice and honesty! In Episode 149 of The Autistic Culture Podcast, Dr. Angela Kingdon explores Pillar 9 of Autistic Culture: Justice Seeking, with special guest Clare Kumar, productivity expert and host of the Happy Space Podcast, to explore Justice Seeking — the 9th pillar of autistic culture.Claire is a late-diagnosed autistic woman, executive coach, and productivity speaker. She brings unique insight into neurodivergent efficiency, workplace design, and inclusive spaces through her work with Hidden Disabilities Canada and her signature Joy Inventory tool.If you've ever been accused of being “too intense,” “too rigid,” or “black-and-white,” this episode is for you. Angela and Claire flip the script and reclaim those traits as moral clarity, fairness-driven thinking, and authentic advocacy — powerful parts of autistic identity. Here's what defines this core Autistic trait:* We call out what others ignore.Autistic people are often the first to question broken systems, double standards, and flawed logic. We don't pretend it makes sense—we say it doesn't.* We sense injustice instantly.Misaligned actions, hypocrisy, and favouritism aren't just annoying—they feel unbearable. Fairness isn't optional. It's foundational.* We speak up—no matter the cost.Whether it's calling out ableism, bias, or misinformation, autistic advocates often challenge power structures—even when it's uncomfortable.* We hold systems to their own rules. We expect policies to be applied with consistency and equity. Selective enforcement? We notice—and we question it.* We feel justice in our bodies. What's labelled as “Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria” is often justice sensitivity—a real-time emotional response to being dismissed for telling the truth.* We don't fake neutrality. When something's wrong, we can't mask it. We're not “too intense”—we're deeply aligned with our values.* We crave clarity, not conflict.Accountability helps us feel safe. We don't want to blame—we want to understand what went wrong and how to fix it.* We value truth over comfort.Authenticity matters more than approval. Many of us would rather lose a friendship than betray our principles.Key Concepts* ✨ Moral clarity: We often see the ethical core of a situation before others do—and struggle to stay silent about it.*
