From Spider-Verse super suits to The Burbs' danger-red Easter eggs, Trayce Field reveals how costume design becomes character. Costume designer Trayce Field joins Voice of Costume for a vibrant, deeply human conversation about creativity, collaboration, leadership, and visual storytelling. She traces her path from a multicultural childhood and vintage-clothing obsession to a career designing for Poker Face, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Burbs, Spider-Noir, Spaceballs 2, and more. Trayce shares how she builds characters from the inside out—grounding even sci-fi, comedy, and superhero costumes in realism, backstory, texture, color, and emotional truth. She breaks down collaborating with Natasha Lyonne on Charlie Cale's lived-in road-warrior look, creating Donald Glover's Prowler super suit in only two weeks, and stepping into The Burbs mid-season while keeping the characters seamless, funny, stylish, and full of Easter eggs. This episode is packed with insight on fitting rooms, actor trust, sourcing unique fashion, department leadership, creative risk, anxiety, ambition, and what it takes to "figure it out" under pressure. A must-listen for fans of costume design, film production, TV comedy, superhero suits, character creation, and the hidden craft behind unforgettable screen style. The "Voice of Costume" is the first podcast created between working costume designers sharing stories, inspiration, struggles, and insights into the creative career of costume design. We've got shockingly little Majel in the TOS episode that ostensibly is a spotlight focus on her. Then we're in to the wild world of Lwaxana Troi as she gets kidnapped by Ferengi in TNG and that version of the Ferengi are the absolute worst. Like Internet Guy worst. Finally we get a surprisingly nice pairing of Lwaxana and Odo stuck in a lift together as a weird life form from the Gamma Quadrant has got into the computers.TOS: What Are Little Girls Made of?TNG: Ménage a TroiDS9: The ForsakenTalking points include: Westworld (both flavours), Babylon 5, Only Murders in the Building, Righteous Gemstones, Adam X the X-Treme, Ahsoka, Classic Dr Who, FMV PC games, Charlie's back on his Lost bullshit, From, Amnesiac City, Two time GLAAD award winner Peter Allan David, The Matrix, Terminator, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, The UK Office amount of awkwardness, Shoggoths, Tiny Clangers, The Prisoner, Legion of Super-Heroes fashion, Mario Kart-based declarations of love, Vampire: The Masquerade, The Mos Eisley Cantina Band, Lucille Bluth, Lwaxana Troi going full Mrs Bennet, Picard giving it all Shakespeare, More Classic Dr Who, Lord of the Rings for the SNES, Gilmore Girls, Tamagochi, War of the Worlds. Sometimes they aim big. A comic. A cartoon. A toyline. Video games. And sometimes that crashes like the Hindenburg. Failed Franchises! That’s what the boys are talking about this week. A slew of bad comics, mediocre toys and forgettable films. Some of them even had an ok aspect, but they just aimed too high. From Jim Lee’s Wildcats, to Warren Beatty’s Dick Tracy and a few other gems (or crystals) in the mix. Crystar the Crystal Warrior and Bucky O’ Hare anyone? And somehow we talk about Glenn Danzig and Billy Zane because why the hell not!?!? Direct Download: MP3

Rounding out the News is a beautiful nod to the influential man that was Jack Kirby; in the form of a street named after him! Most leaders think their biggest problem is hiring the right people. Bruce McLeod says the real problem is what happens after they arrive — and what quietly destroys them once they do.In this episode, Bruce shares the framework he developed after more than a decade watching rapid growth hollow out companies from the inside: burning out top talent, rewarding the wrong behaviors, and leaving entire teams operating without a shared understanding of what winning even looks like. If your company depends on one or two people to hold everything together, this conversation will challenge how you think about leadership, structure, and what it actually means to build something that lasts.TranscriptThe Healthy Compnay Framework

Kicking things off at "Leicester Vintage" & "Retrodee Toys"; with a very difficult mindset of self control & retaining enough money for the rest of the Trip! Then traveling next to the impressive: "Space Bridge"; which certainly holds up its name for Transformers fans! Next adventure was "The Vintage ToyMonster"; that was very well stocked indeed. Moving on next to: "Back To The Retro" which was positioned in a Mall. Then heading over to the incredibly well curated & equally spectacular: "Retro By Ronnie." Touring on then to both "Nerdbase" & "The London Toyshop". Next expedition was to "Hertfordshire Vintage Toys," with their striking Cabinet presentations! Then wrapping up at the awe-inspiring "88mph Toys" which seemed to have everything!! Then we bring it back to the Studio; with an exciting Gift-Box from Matt; for us to open! Wrapping up the Episode is a great overlook of what we are each Reading, Playing &/or Watching! Enjoy! Adam Tierney has spent two decades directing video games at WayForward, putting his fingerprints on titles like River City Girls, Aliens, Silent Hill, and Batman. But long before any of that, he was a kid who loved comic books, and he never really stopped. This week Jeremy sits down with Adam for a lively conversation about how a lifelong passion for the medium ultimately collided with a real opportunity to work in it. We talk about what it means to transition from game scripting to comic scripting, why those two forms are more different than they look from the outside, and what he learned about visual storytelling by blending Shakespeare with giant monsters in the latest issue of Monsterpiece Theater. We also dig into 13 Demons Dead, his first original graphic novel, coming from IDW Publishing this August, about a fourteen-year-old girl who accidentally kills a demon and inherits the job of hunting the rest of them, all while surviving high school. Trust me: it's exactly as fun as it sounds. Adam is generous, funny, and genuinely thoughtful about the craft of writing. Pull up a chair. Is Cyclops from X-Men actually a cop, or is he just annoying? That question turns out to be the perfect entry point for a much bigger one: what does ACAB (All Cops Are Bastards) really mean when the people using violence to enforce order have optic blasts and power rings instead of badges?Matthew is joined by comics writer and Book Riot contributor Jessica Plummer as they trace how the Green Lantern Corps shifted from lone-sector sheriffs into an explicitly militarized space police force through deliberate creative choices, and what that shift cost the characters. They work through Batman's complicated relationship with law enforcement, the X-Men's internal debates over respectability politics and who gets to set the rules, and why The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl might be one of the most quietly radical superhero comics ever published. The thread running through all of it is accountability; who superheroes answer to, what happens when the authority behind them turns out to be corrupt, and whether a hero who patrols, stops crime, and hands people over to the cops is meaningfully different from the cops themselves.Connect with Jessica: jessicaplummerwrites.com**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network.
