HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersMusic is a dish best served fermented.Too many bands these days - possibly because of the ease of recording in the modern era - throw music around with too much regularity, losing in substance what they gain in output. But it's the smarter bands who sit back and master their craft before releasing music, and even more so when that band is new on the scene and therefore maybe overzealous and in a rush to be heard.Tweed Heads rock machine The Whiskeys formed back in 2019 but spent the next few years refining and finding their sound through countless live shows and hours spent writing. Although having enough material to possibly record and release an EP, The Whiskeys allowed themselves time to connect with their music before announcing it to the world. The result is their debut single Hoedown which is set to premiere via HEAVY on February 23.A rocking and catchy as fuck number, Hoedown is but one of a string of releases planned for 2024, but first HEAVY took time out to get to know this two-piece - NOT a duo - a bit better."Hoedown is a party, brother Krispy!" Josh exclaimed. "It's a party!""It's just us doing our thing," Benny added, "everyone having a good time moshing and dancing. All types of dancing. And getting it all together in one place and forgetting about the world and dramas for a bit. Just ripping into the music and having a bloody good old Hoedown. That's what it's all about."We press as to how much of a good time and how close to the country version of a Hoedown the track gets."Ah… well… there could be some elements in there," Benny laughed. "We've got a bit of a mixture in our music, so there's definitely some foot tapping and leg slapping happening, that's for sure.""It's a modern version of country metal," Josh chimed in. "With a bit of rock, a bit of blues, the whole kit and caboodle."In the full interview, we ask the boys more about Hoedown, why they chose it as their debut single, how it reflects the overall sound of The Whiskeys, future music, why they waited 5 years to release their first piece of music, the difference between a duo and a two-piece band, their blending of sounds and how they make it work, tour plans and more.

Hello beautiful people On today's podcast we have the wonderful Mark Avery. Mark lost a good friend, Frank, to cancer in late 2014. This event sparked mental health challenges for Mark which he internalised thinking he had to be ‘strong' and began drinking away what he felt was weakness. Fortunately, Mark eventually decided to speak with a doctor which fuelled a transition into ultramarathon running and raising mental health awareness. Mark ran 21 half marathons in 21 days, having conversations about mental health each day, in partnership with Gotch4Life. He ran from Tweed Heads to Sydney, and most recently ran 24 hours on a treadmill in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record and has continued raising funds for the Cancer Council. What I personally love about this conversation is Mark's vulnerability and thoughtfulness through reflection to the questions posed. He seems to have gone on this journey from running for a sense of self-worth to running with a purpose of contribution. He shares intimately his experience of not meeting the World Record he had recently planned and what he hopes, in persisting through the 24 hours on a treadmill despite this, inspires in others. I can personally say with certainty his story is one of inspiration and impact. Please enjoy this really lovely conversation with Mark Avery.CONNECT WITH JENNAH-LOUISEMindset Coaching | https://www.jennahlouise.com.auInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/jennah_louiseCONNECT WITH MARKInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/markjamesavery#jennahlouise #tobehumanpodcast

He and a few of his mates and some local refugees battled and took refuge from the mega Currowan Fire and Nick’s story of preparing for, fighting and surviving this fire is nothing short of astonishing. It really does talk to Nick’s character and his detailed & thorough approach to everything he does not to mention his courage and self belief in his own design ingenuity - it’s a fascinating story and I strongly encourage you to take the time to listen to the whole thing as Nick is a great storyteller and he really does keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. Featuring both emerging and established writers of colour, this collection showcases some of the best work that Australian literature has to offer. The stories are sites for collisions: against Eurocentric ideals, against narrow concepts of excellence, against stagnant ideas of the world to come. But collisions also manifest in the way our lives come into contact with others, how our pasts shift against the present, and how our imaginations sit against our realities. Australian Wide Fishing Weather and Tide Report for Brisbane, Perth, Cairns, Hobart, Tweed Heads, Sydney and Melbourne. The 28th of June 2019.Whether you like to fish for Flathead, jew fish, bream or whiting this fishing report will help you plan you weekend ahead. My goal is to make fishing as easy as it possible can be, in my research I found found that fish feed at certain times, in this weather report I inform you on my personal opinion of when the best possible times to go fishing over the weekend will be.When Fishing for Flathead you want to find structure such as sand flats or weed beds and i have found my best results on the run out tide but have also had a lot of luck around low tide.If you are targeting Mulloway or Jew fish, deep holes are a good area to be fishing around, they also like to hang around bridge pylons so keep that in mind. I have heard that the best time for fishing jew fish is after a storm or rain in the river mouth when the water has a distinct colour change. using pilchards or live bait works best but can have plenty of results using a white swim bait or soft plastic lure. When Targeting bream structure is key, Bridge pylons, jetties or pontoons are where these little critters hang out, I have found like yabbies are an excellent bait but bream will pretty much take any bait at the right time.If you will be Fishing for whiting sand flats and arond weed beds are a great place to look, live yabbies or blood worms are excelent bait and with light gear these little guys can be a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy my Weekend Fishing, TIde and Weather report for Australia wide and are able to plan your weekend around fishing ;) get out there, have some fun, and until next time keep those rods ready and hold on. Australia is perhaps the least densely populated major country in the world yet a number of urban and coastal regional areas are experiencing a housing crisis where many people are now living without homes. The Northern Rivers faces significant challenges in terms of housing affordability and homelessness. Recent figures suggest that Tweed Heads was the 8th least affordable housing city in the world, that Byron Shire had the least affordable private rents of anywhere in NSW, with Ballina, Clarence Valley and Tweed Shire also in the top nine least affordable areas in the state (North Coast Community Housing Annual Report 2017-2018). What can we do to address this? Join facilitator Adele Wessell (Southern Cross University) in conversation with the expert panel: Tony Davies (CEO Social Futures); John McKenna (CEO North Coast Community Housing) and researcher Dr Sandy Darab (Southern Cross University) discussing "Living without homes - how can we fix the regions housing crisis?" Presented by the Lismore Regional Gallery and Southern Cross University, Thursday Night Live! is a monthly talks program putting critical, thought-provoking topics in the spotlight. Held on the second Thursday of each month. Cafe opens at 5.30pm and the panel discussion begins at 6pm.

Are you a healthcare services consumer? Specifically - have you accessed any form of maternity healthcare services in the last few years? On Friday May 25th 2018, Sally Cusack & I spent the day up at Tweed Heads, attending a Consultation workshop as part of the governments plans to develop a National Strategic Approach to Maternity Services. The consultation was hosted by the Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council (AHMAC). The expected outcome for the NSAMS project is a document to guide national maternity services policy.Along with about 20 other people we debated and discussed, listened and contributed to the conversation. What should maternity services look like in the future? What are the main frameworks and who are the key stakeholders? What’s missing from the current system and how do we go about attaining a system that delivers better outcomes for mothers, their babies, their families and those that work within these systems?I have the beautiful Sally Cusack in the studio, join us as we discuss all this and more on this special episode of Pregnancy, Birth & Beyond.Further reading on overdiagnosis raised by Sally: https://www.smh.com.au/healthcare/overdiagnosis-is-harming-patients-and-action-is-required-says-chief-medical-officer-20181014-p509jx.htmlProduced and presented by Annalee AtiaCopyright PBB Media and Annalee Atia 2018.www.pbbmedia.org
