It's our final Halloween episode of 2024, and you shouldn't be surprised by our choice. We couldn't wrap up the season without revisiting Wellsville for one of the greatest Halloween episodes in television history, “Halloweenie” from The Adventures of Pete & Pete. It's quintessentially Pete & Pete, which means it's quintessentially 90s and quintessentially Jersey, all while remaining totally weird and wholly unique. We talk Mischief-Devil's-Cabbage-Goosey Night, neighborhood bullies, breaking records, and that moment of being right on the edge of too old for something you used to love.Next week, we're sticking with the 90s theme but moving to a new genre, as we watch Kim's Video, a 2023 documentary that explores what happened to one of the world's greatest VHS collections when it moved from New York City to Sicily.Follow:The Watchers on Instagram (@WatchersPodNJ)Andrea on Instagram (@AQAndreaQ)Jodie on Instagram (@jodie_mim)Our sister show, New Jersey Is the World, on Instagram (@newjerseyistheworld)Thanks to Kitzy (@heykitzy) for the use of our theme song, "No Book Club."

In this final episode of Let's Go To Court, Kristin takes us full circle — with a con man. In his hometown of Wellsville, New York, Paul Ceglia was known for his dishonesty. He always had a scheme going. He often got caught. In fact, he got caught in 2009 running a fraudulent business. But our pal Paul claims that it was in that dark moment, with the government coming after him, he discovered something incredible. While going through his old files, he found a contract that had been signed by an 18-year-old Mark Zuckerberg. According to that contract, Paul was the rightful owner to 84% of Facebook.  And now for a note about our process. For this episode, Kristin read a bunch of articles, then spat them back out in her very limited vocabulary. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Facebook Face-off” episode of American Greed “Facebook fraud suspect on the lam; family, dog also missing,” Associated Press “Facebook friend or foe?” by Tim Graham for The Buffalo News “Fugitive Ceglia to be returned to U.S. to face charges of attempting to defraud Facebook,” by Phil Fairbanks for The Buffalo News “Ceglia has bad day in Facebook lawsuit,” by Dan Herbeck for The Buffalo News “Paul Ceglia: The man who owns 84% of Facebook?” by Van Voris for Bloomberg Businessweek “The buy who says he owns 50% of Facebook just filed a boatload of new evidence – and it's breathtaking,” by Henry Blodget for Business Insider “Facebook's suit against lawyers for Ceglia thrown out on appeal,” by Bob Van Voris for Bloomberg News  “Where in the world is Paul Ceglia? Possibly Ireland,” by Phil Fairbanks for The Buffalo News  YOU'RE STILL READING? My, my, my, you skeezy scunch! You must be hungry for more! We'd offer you some sausage brunch, but that gets messy. Heigl and Jordan take a trip to Wellsville to explore the baffling-yet-beloved staple of early Nickelodeon. You'll learn about the off-kilter sitcom's surprising origins as a Nick at Nite promo, and its strong ties to the downtown New York avant-garde arts scene of the late '80s. You'll also discover how the hell they got an insane number of shocking guest stars and learn about the adorable friendship that blossomed between Danny Tamberelli and Iggy Pop on the set. The TMI gang also crack some of the more enduring mysteries of the show — why did their mom have a plate in her head, why did Little Pete have nautical tattoos, and why did the boys share a single name in the first place? Sadly, they were unable to get the name of the song Little Pete overheard the garage band play in that one episode, or decipher the unintelligible lyrics of the theme song "Hey Sandy," by Polaris — but you can't win 'em all.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dear Johnny, My name is Arianna, I am sending you this letter because my family could really use some help. On September 5, 2023 I had to take my oldest daughter Piper (9) to Children's Mercy Hospital in downtown KC because she was having constant headaches, her left eye was presenting as a lazy eye out of nowhere, she was not wanting to eat, and she was very sluggish. That morning I decided I needed to get her to the hospital to see what was going on. They got her into the emergency room immediately and within an hour she was getting a CT scan. The ER Doctor that was with her came in to tell us the results of the CT Scan. They had my fiancé and I step out of the room and I knew something was wrong. They pulled us into a separate room to tell us that they found a mass on my daughter's brain. The Neurosurgeon told us that he was 99% sure it was a Brain Tumor and told us that she would need an MRI that day, a biopsy the next day and surgery sometime in the next week most likely. I stayed at the hospital with Piper while they got the MRI set up for her. It did end up being a Brain Tumor located directly on her Spinal Cord, he told us that it had to be removed immediately. So, Piper was rushed into surgery that afternoon. After about 8 hours of surgery, the Neurosurgeon came out and told us that the Brain Tumor was huge and he got 97% of it, he wasn't sure what kind of tumor it was yet until the pathology comes back in a few weeks. He said she did great and that she would be in the PICU for a few days but he was hoping she would recover nicely. We spent 2 days in the PICU and then were moved to the Neurosurgery follow up floor and we spent the next 2 1/2 - 3 weeks there. After the tumor removal, her right side of her face is paralyzed for the time being and she could not walk, talk, use the restroom or anything on her own. She is now wheelchair bound and requires a 5 point harness car seat. We found out that she has what's called Posterior Fossa Syndrome from the tumor removal, she is relearning everything at this moment and has been since she came out of surgery. She is now wheelchair bound and has to have full physical support daily. The Pathology came back and it is a low grade (slow growing Cancer) Pilocytic Astrocytoma tumor. She does have to get MRI's every 6 months for the time being. If her tumor decides it wants to start growing then she will have to have more treatment. My fiance is working full time, but I had to quit my job to be Piper's full-time caregiver. I have been taking care of her and her two sisters. I am currently taking her to Ability KC Rehab facility here in Kansas City because they are really the only Pediatric facility that does intensive therapy that she needs at this moment! I drive her every week 5 days a week up here to get the rehab she needs. With help from my brother I bought a minivan that is lower, has more room, and is easier to load Piper in and out of. The last few months have been tough basically living off of one income, but I'm so happy to bring my oldest girl home and we can be a family again. It has put a strain on us financially. I am worried about rent coming due, getting tags for the minivan and the cost of gas to drive so much from Wellsville into KC.  Thank you for listening to my story and I hope you have a happy holiday. With Love, Arianna Phares & Luke Campbell Who Helped: Brad, Mark, Candy, Brian, Rob, Gene and Consentino'sHow You Helped: Van tax and tags, December rent, gas cards, Christmas for the kids, groceries

We had the pleasure of interviewing The Wrecks over Zoom video. The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows by John Koenig which defines made up words for indescribable emotions classifies the neologism “sonder” as the “profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passing in the street, has a life as complex as one's own." The Wreck's vocalist/producer Nick Anderson landed on "Sonder" as the title of their sophomore album, which is out now via Big Noise Music Group. The band's most recent singles, the sparkling post-breakup anthem “Lone Survivor” and liberating alt-rock track “I Love This Part,” showcase that they've fully honed-in on and embraced their characteristic genre bending alt-rock, as well as having evolved and matured their sounds for this triumphal venture of a second album. Anderson says that experimenting with minor keys and calculated lyrics. On Sonder, there's not only their distinctive witty, frantic genre-bending tracks (“Sonder,” “Don't Be Scared,” “Unholy,” “Ugly Side”), but also their take on mesmerizing alt-rock love/loss ballads (“Where Are You Now?,” “Dystopia,” “Unrequited,” “No Place I'd Rather Be,” “Normal”).Sonder follows the release of the band's 2016 debut EP We Are The Wrecks (their first single “Favorite Liar” currently has 36 million+ streams on Spotify), their 2018 Panic Vertigo EP, their 2020 Static EP as well as their 2020 debut LP Infinitely Ordinary (58 million+ streams on Spotify). The Wrecks continue to rack up the massive fan base that has already given their top five singles on Spotify over 80 million listens. Poised for a wide-open road ahead of them, Nick Anderson and The Wrecks continue to charge into the limelight. Not too shabby for a kid from Wellsville, just two hours south of nowhere. The Wrecks begun as vocalist/producer Nick Anderson's sole endeavor and has since been rounded out by Aaron Kelley (bass), Nick “Schmizz” Schmidt (guitar) and Billy Nally (drums). The Wrecks also collaborated on a select number of tracks off Sonder with producers Westen Weiss (Meek Mill, Camila Cabello, Post Malone) and Dillon Deskin (Flo Rida, Will Sparks, Different Heaven, Myrne) to expand their sound. We want to hear from you! Today we are doing something new- at the end of 2021, we got the opportunity to visit Morgan Farms, a newly formed non-profit located in Wellsville, KS.  My husband and I drove there on an unseasonably warm day in early December.  Jason Klepac, the founder, and owner, was hosting an open house and invited the Guns and Yoga Podcast for a tour and opportunity to speak with some of the first responders in attendance.  As our two-and-a-half-hour drive came to an end, and we got closer to Morgan Farms, I started to feel more at ease. Less cars, more space, less people more trees, less noise more quiet.  When we arrived, the tour was just starting; about 20 area first responders came from different parts of Kansas to learn more.  Jason is a former first responder and military veteran.  He and his wife, Shannon, have opened their home and their hearts, in service of those who serve.  Jason and Shannon have created something unique; a working farm on 40 acres. So, what is Morgan Farms? It is an opportunity to experience the beauty, peace, and calm.  Jason has created something really special.  We will talk with him and his wife in next week's episode, but for him, it's all about the people; the first responders and taking care of them in a unique way.  Not doing anything per se, but providing them the space, the environment to just be. Today, you will hear a mash up, or a series of short interviews with several first responders we did on location; Dawn Deterding, Jamie Davis, and Roxy VanGundy, who have a combined near 70 years of experience under the headset as dispatchers.  These ladies came from different parts of the state to visit Morgan Farms and speak with us today.  They all work for different agencies across the state, KC MO PD, Lee Summit Fire, and Lyon County.  They are committed to supporting their peers and work with agencies such as NENA National emergency number association and MARC the Mid America Regional Council to improve services and resources to dispatchers and other first responders. You will hear from them how valuable they feel Morgan Farms will be as a resource for their people. I also spoke with Lt. Dan Davis Belton PD and Matt Kelly, Captain Miami County Sheriff they are co-chairs for command level peer support with MARC. In these conversations you will hear about critical incidents, the impact of secondary trauma and the role that peer support can play in supporting dispatchers, law enforcement and all first responders. If you want increased feelings of calmness, need a change of scenery, want to increase endorphin levels, recharge, be less irritable, and possible reduce cortisol levels, the stress hormone association with excessive nervous system activation, then you should check our Morgan Farms. Next week when we hear from Jason and Shannon, we will discuss future plans for Morgan Farms, future programs, etc. The intuitive nature of horses and how they can help us understand more about ourselves and how we communicate with others. Kansas State Representative Mark Samsel was just having one of those days – he was working as a substitute teacher ($88 a day!), but the kids weren't listening, and he was stressed, and gay parents were a thing in the world, and God had been talking to him all morning non-stop…so he did what many teachers have dreamed about, he kicked a kid in the groin and called it a day.  Enough already!  Take that, Satan! Yes, Mark had just had a no good, rotten, very bad day.  So he did what anyone does when they've been caught on film doing something wrong, he blamed a bunch of other people and also God but then also not God and then he said “Sorry” with 1,000 words on Facebook that all said it wasn't his fault.  By the time he faced a judge in a courtroom he'd had some counseling and actually apologized – and we are here to rate the apology and dive deep into the hellscape that is Wellsville, Kansas (Go Eagles!).

In 2019, we covered the dark and subversive Strangers with Candy, so it's only fair that we follow that episode up with a look at its kid-friendly spiritual predecessor, The Adventures of Pete & Pete. It's a series born out of the same circumstances that led to our favorite shows from cable TV's early era: a need for programming so desperate that networks were willing to throw (a small amount of) money at outsider weirdos to fill slots on a barren schedule. And thankfully, the right group of misfits assembled to make Pete & Pete one of the hippest, smartest, and surprisingly sincere kids' shows ever written. He joins Brian again this week. They talk a lot about the Buffalo Bills and what this team is like to cover. Bucky talks about how he writes columns about the team without having press credentials, and the challenges and opportunities that presents.Bucky details his career path from the Wellsville bureau of the Olean Times Herald to being a columnist at his hometown Buffalo News. He remembers the influence Jim Kelley had on his career (including the infamous Dominik Hasek incident) and discusses the challenges presented of writing what he calls “grossly unpopular” columns about bad teams for the past 10 years.Bucky Gleason on TwitterBuffalo MavenBucky and SullyJim KelleyMike Vaccaro booksSubscribe:Apple PodcastsOvercastGoogle PlayRSS

Jeff Ryan THE RYAN AGENCY 57 BROADWAY MALL HORNELL, NY 14843 Telephone: 607-324-7500 E-mail:  Service@RyanAgency.com (mailto:Service@RyanAgency.com) In this episode of Wine and Dime, I pulled an old interview out of the archive.  I sat down with Jeff Ryan of The Ryan Agency, to chat about Insurance and the important roll it plays in our financial lives.  Jeff is the owner of The Ryan Agency located in Hornell NY, with offices also in Jasper and Wellsville, NY.   The Ryan Agency is an Independent Insurance Agency that represents YOU. We don’t offer a product from just one insurance company. Rather we provide insurance programs from many top insurance companies and tailor an insurance package that fits your needs and budget. For Insurance Protection You Can Rely On, it’s The Ryan Agency. The Wine: CABERNET FRANC Cabernet Franc, one of the three pillars of the classic Bordeaux blend, has proven itself as a solid producer in the Finger Lakes wine region of New York.  A lot of wineries prefer this as their staple red vinifera due to the vines shorter ripening period and cold tolerance.  The key to making a fine Cab Franc starts in the vineyard.  Pick too early and the wine will have an unsavory green bell pepper characteristic; pick to late and the fruit will be unsound leaving the winemaker rushing to stabilize the wine from spoilage.   Bully Hill makes a downright tasty Cab Franc with the grapes being sourced from Seneca Lake.  The current 2013 vintage was fermented in Redwood open top fermenters for maximum tannin and color extraction.  Once finished and pressed off, we fill up oak casks down in the cellar to bring this fine wine to fruition.   We do small lot production of 500 cases a year and thanks to our happy herd of customers this wine sells out annually!   You notice the Owl on the label?  This pen and ink was concocted by Walter S. himself, humorously illustrating his inability to use his last name during Bully Hill’s lawsuits with Coca-Cola.  Walter S. Whoooooo, do you know Whooo? I know Whoooo!  This wine truly is a hoot.

The HDYR gang packs up the station wagon and heads back to Wellsville to discuss three of their favorite episodes of The Adventures of Pete & Pete - "What We Did On Our Summer Vacation", "King of the Road", and "Hard Day's Pete". After sharing their memories of the series, they offer their own explanations for why it struck such a nerve back when it debuted and why it continues to resonate so strongly with them now. Chris realizes it probably informed his sense of humor to a greater degree than he was even aware of, Donna recalls being won over by the open-ended nature of the storytelling, and Carlos laments the current state of children's programming. Pete & Pete may have had an offbeat tone, but it was also filled with very genuine musings about growing up - so there's a lot of talk here about the fleeting nature of childhood, that awkward pre-teen phase where you're just imitating older people's behavior without understanding it, the way we suppress the things that we love in favor of fitting in, and the value of the sort of nostalgia we're celebrating here vs. being inspired to create something new. iTunes / Stitcher / RSS / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram About The Show
