This week I take a break from historical documents to look at some recent events here in Central Bucks School District. Our recent school board meeting on December 4, 2023 made Fox News and also was mentioned on The Michael Knowles Show. While there is much to discuss, the highlight of the evening involved the new board chair, Karen Smith, being sworn in not on the Bible, but a stack of LGBTQ+ books (including some sexually explicit ones). Today I look at Jeremiah 44 and see how Karen Smith, perhaps without knowing it, has sworn by the authority of a different god, the Queen of Heaven. As always, if you have any law/government related questions, feel free to email me at thegbgpodcast@gmail.com, and I will be happy to address them on the program. Thank you and God bless! On this episode of Out d'Coup LIVE, I welcome Chris Ullery to the show. Chris covers extremism and social justice for the USA Today network of PA and Bucks County Courier Times. We'll be talking about his new investigative piece, "Emails show how religious liberties law firm has influenced Bucks and York schools." This article is part of an on-going investigation by Chris and investigative journalist Bethany Rodgers from the USA Today Network's PA capitol bureau. Their investigations have helped expose how a deep-pocketed, religious law firm is working with right-wing school boards across Pennsylvania to change policies and sow division. Chris Ullery has been a reporter with the Bucks County Courier Times since 2015, covering municipal government, infrastructure and the Central Bucks School District. His mostly self-taught skills in the Python computer programming language have helped him flesh out and analyze years of voter registration data, track COVID-19 cases at the start of the pandemic in 2020, and build a 10-year database of 911 call logs in Bucks County. In addition to using his programming experience to track extremist movements, he will work with local newsrooms in the USA Today Network to help tell stories by the numbers. Chris Graduated Frostburg State University in 2014 with a B.S. in English (major in Literature, minor in Journalism) near his hometown of Cumberland, Maryland. Dana Hunter of the Central Bucks School District joins Dawn to expand on the constant attacks on parental choice and the politicization of school students as their accomplishments should be the only focus, as the local political landscape continues to surround the district. Students have even stepped into the ring as over 100 seniors have signed an online petition expressing concern. Philly Burbs covered the controversy - read about it here. Tune in 10 AM - 12 PM EST weekdays on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT; or on the Audacy app!
Todd Shepherd, Broad + Liberty's chief investigative reporter, joins the podcast to talk about the curious case of obsessive media coverage that turns into disinterest when the narrative changes. That appears to be the case with the story of Central Bucks School District and all of the supposed tumult surrounding the 2021 election of a Republican-majority board, Shepherd tells DVJournal's Linda Stein.Shepherd also discusses the drastic changes in policy from Sen. Bob Casey, running for re-election next year, and the media's disinterest in the long-time pol's brand-new politics.Hosted by Michael Graham.
Dom Giordano, WPHT host and former teacher, has dedicated much of his daily show toward parents who are taking it into their own hands to push back against school boards that have a negative impact on their children. This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards. First, Dom leads off the podcast by telling of a 150-page report released Thursday night at a Central Bucks School District meeting that blows up anti-LGBT allegations made against the School Board, pointing toward complaints made by a teacher that seem like false allegations in hopes to create a narrative. Dom welcomes in Central Bucks School District President Dana Hunter to hear about last night's board meeting in which this report was presented that calls into question allegations made by a teacher that the board has been hateful toward LGBT students. In the investigation, attorneys for the district found two explosive documents, the first being a write-up of alleged bullying against two students, one who alleges anti-LGBT hate and another who refused to go along with the teacher's narrative, found on the teacher's computer, and another being an email sent by a board member to Secretary Cardona and the Office of the Civil Rights asking for a Federal investigation into the district. Hunter explains that both emails add further evidence to the determination that much of what was alleged against the school board was only create to advance a false narrative. Then, Dom welcomes back in Megan Brock, a parent-activist in Bucks County, who has joined the podcast multiple times, even receiving the Readin' Writin' and Reason Person of the Year for 2022, to lay forth information that she received utilizing the Right-To-Know process in Pennsylvania that exposes questionable actions during Coronavirus by Bucks County. Bucks County filed multiple lawsuits against Brock to prevent the release of the documents uncovered in these Right-to-Know requests and Brock tells that Thursday morning, her cases will be heard at the Bucks County Justice Center. Brock brings us inside the situation, and tells what she expects at this week's hearing.

Today, Dom Giordano leads off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing a decision by two radical feminist groups, who announced that they're breaking with the Biden administration and joining congressional Republicans in supporting the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which prevents biological males from competing in women's sports. Then, Dom tells of some coming results of a new report looking into accusations of anti-LGBT behavior by Central Bucks School District officials. Also, Dom reboots a conversation last week about the usage of surveillance by Police, telling that there has already been a shooting under the newly installed cameras in Philadelphia's recreational facilities. Then, Dom welcomes Dan Bartkowiak, Communications Director of the Pennsylvania Family Institute, to hear where Pennsylvania stands on recreational marijuana legalization. Bartkowiak tells of some news regarding marijuana legalization in Governor Josh Shapiro's proposal, and tells of a strong push by progressive Democrats in Harrisburg to legalize the drug for recreational use. Also, Dom and Bartkowiak discuss whether they believe legalization would pass in the State, and Dan tells us the negative implications that States who have legalized have seen. Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom takes things national on the Dom Giordano Program, offering his analysis on how he expects DeSantis's new 6-week abortion ban to effect his Presidential chances, with Dom explaining why he actually believes this to negatively impact his chances. Dom explains that a move such as this is seemingly a political move to set the stage for DeSantis's stance on abortion, telling that the Presidential hopeful probably hopes to win over voters in say Iowa with the move. Then, Dom brings things more local, telling of a protest in Philadelphia schools over Climate Change, asking why kids are willing to protest for that cause while continuing to turn a blind eye to the implications of progressive policies on crime. This leads Dom down an education path, with Dom playing back a clip from the Central Bucks School District where one member comes under fire for calling another a Nazi. Then, Dom welcomes Scott Cronick back onto the Dom Giordano Program to hear which shows and films are worth watching over the weekend. First, Cronick recommends Reggie on Amazon Prime, a documentary about the life of Reggie Jackson, which causes both to tell some stories of experiences they shared with the baseball legend. Also, Cronick tells why he believes Creed 3 to be the best in the series, and explains why Succession may be the best acted series ever on television. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)

School boards are now some of the most contentious elections in America, with battles over what is allowed to be taught, book bans, funding, and more. In this You Should Run Podcast, Dana Foley talks about what motivated her to run for school board in Central Bucks School District in Bucks County, PA. There has been great controversy in the Central Bucks School District over the past few years, from COVID restrictions to freedom of expression for teachers to protecting LGBTQ students. Dana talks about the team she is running with in this year's election, building trust among families and teachers, and the impact that school boards have on communities. According to a new survey from the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute and the Brookings Institution, more than half of Republicans either adhere to or sympathize with Christian nationalism. The survey also found that half of those who believe in Christian nationalism and 40 percent of those who sympathize with it “support the idea of an authoritarian leader in order to keep Christian values in society.” In Oklahoma, a judge stripped a lesbian mom's parental rights to her son and handed them over to her sperm donor. Legal experts are concerned that this case will only exacerbate attacks on marriage equality. Kentucky Supreme Court ruled to keep a near-total ban on abortion in place while a lower court deliberates on the constitutionality of the law. The current Kentucky law only allows abortion to save the life of a pregnant person. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of the United State is hearing two cases that have challenged Biden's student loan forgiveness program. Writing in Vox, Ian Milhiser makes clear that the student loan forgiveness program is explicitly authorized by the 2022 Heroes Act, but “the Court's Republican majority is unlikely to care.” New report shows that we could enter a climate “doom loop” that could “become so overwhelming that they undermine humanity's capacity to tackle climate change's root causes.” This week's mass shooting at Michigan State University killed three students and critically injured another 5. That brings the number of mass shootings this year to 71. Central Bucks School district has targeted an additional 60 books to consider banning from its libraries. The books targeted for banning are based on a site created by the far-right group Moms for Liberty. 52 school board directors from 25 Pennsylvania school districts are calling on Central Bucks School District to repeal their recently passed ban against so-called “advocacy activities.” The group of directors condemned Central Bucks school board majority for “fostering intolerance,” “discrimination,” and targeting LGBTQ students for “political purposes.” Temple University graduate students strike as university administrators turn to class anti-worker, union-busting tactics. Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom leads off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing the environmental disaster in East Palestine, OH, playing back a clip from John Stewart who argued that those on the Right making an issue over this are ‘phony' and that they're playing an act of ‘concern for working people.' Dom takes issue with this, pointing out both hypocrisies in Stewart's commentary and the Democratic non-response to what should be their top priority. Then, Dom tells of a letter written by school board members across Pennsylvania condemning alleged anti-LGBT actions by the Central Bucks School District, taking the side of the Bucks County board members by playing back some questionable LGBT+ teachings to 4 and 5 year olds. The U.S. and Germany are sending a whole bunch of tanks to Ukraine as the war continues into its second year. Later today the Memphis, TN police will release video of the brutal and fatal police beating of 27-year-old Tyre Nichols. The five police officers who fatally beat Nichols have been fired and are facing second-degree murder charges. PA-based libertarian billionaire, Jeffrey Yass, is funding a new poliitcal action committee called “The Moderate PAC” that will target progressive primary challengers in favor of centrist and corporate Democrats. Colleges and Universities are starting to hire “Chief Experience Officers” to “ensure that consumers are having satisfying interactions” with the institutions - a practices imported from the corporate world. We're seeing the new censorship policy in the Central Bucks School District in action. A librarian at Central Bucks South high school was told by his principal to take down a quote from Elie Wiesel, the Nobel laureate Holocaust survivor, because it violated the district's new ban on advocating “partisan, political, or social policy issues” to students. The principal later reversed his order, but left a chilling effect on speech behind. Turns out that Central Bucks is using a conservative Christian law firm with ties with anti-LGBTQ, Christian nationalist organization the Family Research Council. The Family Research Council is recognized as a extremist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The Pennridge School District school board is seeking to impose versions of the Hillsdale College 1776 curriculum on teachers and students. Hillsdale College is an infamous right-wing, Christian college in Michigan that has been fueling flames of resentment and pushing a whitewashed curriculum in charter and public schools. The president of Hillsdale College, Larry Arnn III, provides a window into the college's believes. In 2013, he referred to minority students as “dark ones” in legislative hearings; earlier this summer - in the midst of Hillsdale's partnership to take over charter schools in the state - Arnn told the Gov. of Tennessee that “teachers are trained in the dumbest parts of the dumbest colleges in the country." Hillsdale's 1776 curriculum was launched in the wake of Trump's 1776 Commission to push back against the 1619 Project.
Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom tells about a new edict set forth by Ocean City in an effort to deal with unruly teenagers who have taken over the summer boardwalk in evening hours. Dom and Dan remember other creative ways that the shore destination has solved issues, and tell why they both feel other shore towns should follow suit in creating a safer and more enjoyable environment for tourists and residents. Then, Dom welcomes in Dana Hunter, President of the Central Bucks School District, who addressed controversy playing out in her school district in an opinion piece in today's Philadelphia Inquirer along with other members on her district's board. President Hunter addresses Policy 321's true purpose of opening the minds of students rather than propagandizing them, speaking out against the narrative that's been spun that the policy is somehow anti-LGBT and targeted against LGBT individuals. Also, Hunter tells about other issues that have been twisted by the media as the district tries to protect parental rights, and updates on an ACLU complaint levied against the district due to the alleged anti-LGBT nature of the proposed policy. Senator Rand Paul pointed out that if, in fact, Facebook is providing the private communications of its users to the government, it would be illegal. 5:05pm- Megan Brock—a grass roots parental rights advocate—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss a recent policy meeting for the Central Bucks School District where two Democrat board members argued that biological males should be permitted to participate in female sports, suggesting that participation should be prioritized over fair-play. 5:30pm- During a recent earnings call, Target CFO Michael Fiddelke estimated that the big-box store has lost over $400 million in profits due to retail theft over the past year. Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom leads off the Dom Giordano Program by playing back a clip of school board members in the Central Bucks School District justifying allowing transgender students to participate in women's sports, making that argument that high school sports isn't primarily about competition, telling that all deserve the ability to participate in sport. Dom take calls throughout the hour asking listeners what they think about this, taking a call from a former local Mayor who speaks about her experience playing field hockey and all the positive lessons she learned. On this week's episode I look at the relationship between the First Amendment and Education. Does the First Amendment mean that the government cannot base its laws and policies on God's word? And how can the government be "neutral" in the classroom? To give a real-life example, I look at Policy 321 that is being proposed in the Central Bucks School District in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. That policy attempts to keep the classroom neutral. At a recent board meeting, one of the liberal board members argued that there is no such thing as neutrality within the classroom. Is that really true? And if it is, how should that cause Christians and other conservatives to think about the concept of neutrality? 00:33 - Passage of the Day - Luke 11:14-23 06:12 - The First Amendment and Education As always, if you have any law/government related questions, feel free to email me at thegbgpodcast@gmail.com, and I will be happy to address them on the program. On this week's show, I welcome Sharon Ward to the show. Sharon is the Senior Policy Advisor for the Education Law Center, a statewide nonprofit legal services and advocacy organization that works to secure quality education for Pennsylvania children with an emphasis on students who are most underserved. She has worked for 30 years, inside and outside of government, to secure quality schools, affordable health care, and people-serving budget priorities and to empower advocates to work for economic and social justice. We'll be talking about the ongoing attempts by school boards across the country to ban books, limit teachers' ability to provide welcoming environments to LGBTQ students, and enact extremist agendas in our schools. Last week the ACLU of PA filed a lawsuit against Central Bucks School District for creating a hostile environment for LGBTQ students and the Pennridge School District seems like it wants a lawsuit of its own as it bans books, limits expression, and demands schools be stripped of Pride flags. We'll talk with Sharon Ward about the work of the Education Law Center in defending the rights of ALL students and the legal hot water Bucks County Schools find themselves in. Sharon served two terms on the Albany, NY City Council, directed Governor Tom Wolf's Budget Office and led a government-wide transformation initiative to help state agencies use technology, data, collaboration, and social policy innovation to deliver better and quicker services to Pennsylvanians. She is the founding director of the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center; Pennsylvania's premier progressive policy think tank and led the fight for an equitable state tax system. She has served as an advisor on state legislation, policy, and advocacy for the School District of Philadelphia, the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, the Impact Project, Education Voters of Pennsylvania, the Voter Project, and the Keystone Research Center. Trump gets subpoenaed by the January 6th committee. The U.S. Supreme Court is set to take a wrecking ball to higher education admission policies designed to help level the playing field for Black students and students of color. According to a bombshell report in Bloomberg by Josh Eidleson, a former manager at Starbucks in Buffalo, NY testified under oath to the National Labor Relations Board that he was “instructed to single out and discipline pro-union employees.” The manager, David Almond, testified that “Starbucks higher-ups listed names of employees the company had determined supported the union, and told him to punish them.” Leonard Leo begins to get the national scrutiny he deserves in a New York Times report on his influence and powerful right-wing network. A new study published in the ILR Review shows that “unionization throughout one's career is associated with a $1.3 million mean increase in lifetime earnings, larger than the average gains from completing college.” Pennsylvania Republicans have introduced their own version of the “Don't Say Gay” bill, which is even more restrictive than Florida. ACLU has filed a complaint against the Central Bucks School District with Civil Rights Divisions of the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education. The complaint argues that the district is in violation of both Title IX and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment for creating a hostile environment for LGBTQ students. The Proud Boys can be heard yelling “We are Penn State!” Yes, a Penn State group calling itself “Uncensored America,” founded by former president of Penn State's chapter of Turning Points USA and a field organizer for Trump in 2020, is bringing the founder of the Proud Boys, Gavin McInnes, to Penn State on October 24th. Billed as a “comedy show,” Nittany Lions will certainly be treated to all the hilarity of McInnes's misogyny, racism, and advocacy for political violence. Former Central Bucks school board member tweets out a thread about the ongoing trauma resulting from her time on the school board during the rise of extremism in the district. The Rings of Power finale is streaming now. House of the Dragon is closing in on the end of its first season, too. We can look forward to the coming of season 2 of the Wheel of Time
On today's special episode of The Confluence: The ACLU has filed a complaint against the Central Bucks School District for allegedly discriminating against LGBTQ students; we talk with the new CEO of the Women and Girls Foundation about her goals for the organization and future of female empowerment; and biologists have published a study discovering a rare hybrid bird.Today's guests include: Emily Rizzo, suburban reporter for WHYY; Camila Rivera-Tinsley, CEO of the Women and Girls Foundation; and David Toews, assistant professor of biology at Pennsylvania State University.
The Supreme Court is back in session. According to Ian Milhiser of Vox, “The Supreme Court's new term could be even more consequential than its last one.” “A single case, Moore v. Harper” Millhiser writes, “threatens to fundamentally rewrite the rules governing federal elections, potentially giving state legislatures…nearly limitless power to skew those elections.” A right-wing legal organization based out of Wisconsin, the Institute for Law and Liberty, is suing the Biden administration over plans to cancel some student debt. Because the Biden administration has stated that his student loan cancelation plan will help narrow the racial wealth gap and advance racial equity, the Institute for Law and Liberty argues that the action constitutes an “improper racial motive.” Biden announced that he is pardoning thousands of people convicted of simple possession of marijuana, saying in a statement that “Too many lives have been upended because of our failed approach to marijuana. It's time that we write these wrongs.” The executive action will apply to more than 6,500 people convicted of simple possession under federal law or under the D.C. code. Reporting in the Atlantic, Robinson Meyer gives an uncharacteristically upbeat report on how the Inflation Reduction Act could prove to have a much bigger effect on a shift to a post-carbon economy than most people expected. That comes in response to a surprisingly cheery report by the investment bank Credit Suisse. Hundreds of youth activists from the global South gathered in Tunisia to prepare for a collective fight for justice and demand climate action at next month's COP27 meeting in Egypt. As promised, the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the Central Bucks School District arguing that the district is creating a hostile environment for LGBTQ students. We're waiting to see when we see similar moves against Pennridge. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHoP) and other major medical groups are urging the U.S Department of Justice to investigate threats of violences against the hospital because of they provide care to transgender children. While the right-wing yams on about teachers unions' influence on elections, it turns out that one man - Jeffrey Yass - has spent more than 5 times what PSEA has spent during 2022. Yass's spending consistently dwarfs that of teachers unions as shown by Philly Power Research.. There will be a protest in Philly next Thurs. 10/13 @ 11:30am to protest Jeff Yass' ongoing funding of far right politicians and efforts to redirect resources from public to private schools. The protest will take place outside Yass'sSusquehanna International Group's City Ave office 401 City Ave 220, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. You can get all the details here: https://www.mobilize.us/pa-wfp/event/523232/ Got my COVID booster and have I got a story for you.
Today, Dom led off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing a protest in Montgomery County over Columbus Day and more details he's learned about drag racers coming to Philadelphia. Then, Dom spends some time discussing the race between Dr. Mehmet Oz and John Fetterman, offering an update on a potential coming debate. Then, Giordano tells about a federal complaint filed against the Central Bucks School District by the ACLU, alleging that Central Bucks has created a ‘hostile environment.' Dom explains why he's against this federal complaint filed, telling of the horrific nature of books and other materials being taught in schools which this is truly about, and not harming any community. Then, Dom welcomes Maureen Faulkner back onto the Dom Giordano Program. Maureen is the widow of fallen police officer Daniel Faulkner, who died at the hands of Mumia Abu Jamal, who's in recent years become a catalyst for the political justice reform movement. Dom asks Maureen about the incident she's constantly reminded of when she lost her husband, with Faulkner telling that most recently the reminder came after Senate candidate John Fetterman hired a ‘buddy' of Mumia Abu Jamal. Also, Maureen tells about a purchase by Brown University of Mumia ‘memorabilia,' and updates Dom with what she's been doing to try and continue to hold her husband's murderer accountable. A new long-form article in the New York Times by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David Leonhardt, takes a deep dive into what he's calling the “twin threats” to American democracy today: First, “a growing movement inside one of the country's two major parties — the Republican Party — to refuse to accept defeat in an election.” Second, “the power to set government policy is becoming increasingly disconnected from public opinion.” Last weekend saw the weirdest - and perhaps the most troubling - Trump rally to date. Closing out his Youngstown, OH rally, Trump got dark about the decline of America as creepy QAnon themed music played over the speakers. As he spoke, people in the audience began raising their arms and pointing a single finger in the air. It felt like a Nazi salute mixed with religious signs of devotion. Even journalists who have been covering Trump and right-wing extremist groups for a long time were baffled. New internal documents show that Big Oil companies openly admit to gaslighting the public about their commitment to “going green.” Documents also showed that some company officials wished climate activists would get infested with bed bugs. It's Banned Books Week and public libraries across the Commonwealth and the country are shining bright lights on censorship and attempts by right-wing zealots to remove books from our schools. Bucks County has, of course, been front and center of the book-banning agenda. This year alone has seen 681 attempts to ban or restrict library sources, according to the American Library Association. As ALA president Lessa Kanani'opua Pelayo-Lozado put it, “The unprecedented number of challenges we're seeing already this year reflects coordinated, national efforts to silence marginalized or historically underrepresented voices and deprive all of us — young people, in particular — of the chance to explore a world beyond the confines of personal experience.” Saturday, Sept. 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at State and Main Streets with the first annual Banned Books Parade. Participants will dress up in cardboard box book costumes to bring banned books to life. The educational website Docuseek was blocked by the Central Bucks School District after “concerned parent” Vonna DeArmond complained at a recent school board meeting that some of the materials available on the site made references to sexually explicit themes and were discriminating against Christians. Abortion is proving to be a key issue in PA's 1st Congressional district and Brian Fitzpatrick seems to believe that avoid talking to the media and his constituents is his best strategy. A recent WFMZ's 69 News story covering the issue featured Ashley Ehasz speaking out about abortion rights, but as the reporter put it: “69 News wanted to talk more to Fitzpatrick about his views, but several attempts to reach his campaign went unanswered.” Duck and cover, Fitzy. A couple of big things happening in space news. NASA is holding a press briefing today to discuss the status of the Artemis I mission to the Moon following two failed launches. Artemis ! may now launch as soon as September 27. Also, NASA will also be streaming its asteroid-smashing DART mission Monday evening. And the cartoon The Jetsons, premiered on this date in 1962.
New Central Bucks School District President Dana Hunter joins The Program to discuss their new policies within the district regarding books and transgender students. Dana also describes politics in the classroom which will be on the agenda for the next school board meeting.
2:00 - Central Bucks School District made a decision regarding parent approval if a student wanted to be referred by different pronouns or a new name. Are teachers really going to do this and call parents every time this happens? Yes, parents need to make these decisions. 2:15 - Dom's Money Melody! 2:20 - . We continue to discussion regarding Central Bucks School Board's decision on names and pronouns for students 2:40 - Sunny Hostin is a fraud for calling out Nikki Haley. Least likable person on the view. We continue with gender discussions in schools. 2:50 - More calls regarding who is your most famous Henry!
Full Hour | Today, Dom led off the Dom Giordano Program by telling some exciting news centered on the impeachment proceedings of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. Giordano reveals that the District Attorney's office has denied a request for subpoenas by the committee investigating the spike in crime in Philadelphia, arguing that he was duly elected. Giordano explains what happened here, telling that this is actually good news for those hoping for an eventual impeachment, telling that non-compliance here on further digs a hole for the sullied politician. Then, Giordano moves into a conversation centered on mail-in ballots, expressing his frustration with State Republicans who allowed the unsafe voting trend in a trade for an elimination of straight-ticket voting. Then, Megan Brock, mother in the Central Bucks School District, returns to the Dom Giordano Program with more information on why and how Health Director David Damsker has been silenced since offering lax restrictions during the Coronavirus. Last time Megan joined the show, she told us that, using Freedom of Information request, she discovered that after Damsker released his less restrictive edicts, Eric Nagy, the Director of Policy and Communications silenced the recommendations and instead imposed more restrictive Coronavirus guidelines, with no medical input. After uncovering the re-written guideline edict, the Bucks County GOP called for the resignation of Nagy. Strangely, the Philadelphia Inquirer continues to turn a blind eye to this story, but Brock tells that both the National Review and Judicial Watch has become involved, explaining that Judicial Watch has even offered representation for the legal battles to come. Brock takes us inside her investigation, and tells about the pushback she's faced both from school officials and some in the public who have been convinced that Brock has ulterior motives. First, Dom welcomes Megan Brock, mother and activist out in the Central Bucks School District, back to the Dom Giordano Program after a groundbreaking report in the National Review pointed to her and her cohorts uncovering some critical information concerning Bucks County Coronavirus guidelines. Brock explains that, after a deep dive into the metadata of files, discovered that, after County Health Director Dr. David Damsker put out his guidelines, which were less restrictive than most, their Communications Director stepped in and revised the guidelines to make them more strict. Megan Brock takes Giordano and listeners into the investigation, explaining that the guideline revision is the sole document she found ‘produced' by the Health Department that was created by the Communications Director. Brock then explains what seems to have happened since then, with Damsker being silenced after becoming a forefront figure in propagating lesser restrictions for schools during Coronavirus. Then, Dom welcomes Kathleen Carmody to the Dom Giordano Program. Kathleen is a parent in the Unionsville-Chadds Ford School District, who has been speaking out as the district tries to rewrite Pennsylvania law centered on Coronavirus. In a decision made by the school, administrators decided to strike language from their vaccine exemption guidance as set forth by the State, with parents up in arms over the decision which they argue is both illegal and immoral. Carmody suggests that administrators are looking to infringe on the rights of parents in the district, trying to take something that's a given and instead forcing parents to jump through hoops to access their rights.

Dom tells of some questionable actions involving stocks, and reminds listeners of Madeleine Dean's involvement in a bike company that outsources to communist China. Then, Giordano takes a look at the claims of elitism directed toward Dr. Mehmet Oz, asking why that's become one of the main strategies employed by the Fetterman campaign. Then, in Dan Time with Dom, producer Dan Borowski reveals an upcoming Fox special dedicated to finding Richard Simmons, and tells that Gwynth Paltrow has been added to the list of guest sharks on Shark Tank.

Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show: The family of James Lambert Jr., the 73-year-old man who was beaten to death with a traffic cone, claims they are being harassed by groups of teens outside of their home. A Philadelphia Municipal Court approved a “stay-away” order to protect Lambert's family. A Baltimore family is now filing a federal lawsuit against Sesame Place—accusing the theme park of racial discrimination. The suit alleges a 5-year-old girl was ignored by Sesame Street characters during a meet and greet. Outgoing Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey has stated that he endorses Dr. Mehmet Oz to fill his seat in the Senate—though, when asked about the state's gubernatorial race, he would not endorse gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano. Steve Van Zandt, member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and star of The Sopranos, made a video on behalf of John Fetterman and his campaign for the U.S. Senate. In the video, Van Zandt accuses Dr. Oz of being a New Jersey resident. Clarice Schillinger—former candidate for Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor & Executive Director of Back to School U.S.A.—joins the show to discuss her recent speech at a rally for U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz. Will Dr. Oz fight for parents/students and keep schools open? After speaking with him, Schillinger believes he will. She also talks about Central Bucks School District passing a policy which would remove “sexualized content” and other material not deemed age-appropriate for children from public school libraries.

Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show: On Tuesday, the Central Bucks School District passed a policy which would remove “sexualized content” and other material not deemed age-appropriate for children from public school libraries. The Philadelphia Police Department will not lose its state accreditation. According to reports, the potential revocation of accreditation stemmed from the city's “Driving Equality Bill” which forbids police officers from pulling over drivers for “minor driving infractions.” Columbia University fencer Sylvie Binder has been selected as the Ivy League female athlete of the year. She will now be eligible to win the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The University of Pennsylvania's Lia Thomas had been nominated for the same award. President Joe Biden has tested negative for COVID-19 and will now leave isolation—though, he will continue to wear a mask for 10-days. According to the Washington Post, the U.S. Justice Department is investigating Donald Trump and his actions surrounding January 6th. While speaking with Lester Holt, Attorney General Merrick Garland said that he intends “to hold everyone, who was criminally responsible” for the January 6th assault on the U.S. Capitol “accountable”—though, he did not explicitly name Trump. While appearing on Face the Nation, Rep. Adam Schiff said the House's January 6th Select Committee may subpoena Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
On today's show, Cyril and I will be digging the on-going school board saga at Central Bucks School District - in particular, the School Board's new book banning policy. The School Board met again last night and passed the controversial policy by a 6-3 vote. Parents, student, and community members rallied outside the meeting and expressed their opposition to their policy in the meeting. Once again Central Bucks is putting itself in the national spotlight for what happens when extremists take over. Joan Cullen, President of Pennridge School District, returns to the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the aforementioned story, an upcoming vote by the Central Bucks School District to either ban or allow ‘sexualized content' in library books. In a piece written about the story, the Inquirer spoke with multiple officials who wrongly tried spinning the policy into something targeting books like The Scarlet Letter, while Cullen and Giordano tell the types of books that this does look to disallow. Then, Cullen and Giordano explain why school districts and parents have taken notice of certain books, with Cullen pointing toward a recent rise in hyper-political and questionable content being put out by children's book publishers. Full Hour | Today, Dom Giordano led off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing a revelation he saw via WPHT host Mike Opelka, a report by NBC News that student loan servicers have been told not to contact borrowers, this as the August 31st payment pause deadline looms. Then, Dom tells about an interview he had yesterday with Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate and current State Senator Doug Mastriano, revealing what seems to have stuck most with listeners. Dom plays back clips from the interview, including Mastriano's response to a potential debate against opponent Josh Shapiro moderated by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Then, Dom tells of an upcoming vote tonight in the Central Bucks School District determining whether or not to ban ‘sexualized content' in library books. Then, Joan Cullen, President of Pennridge School District, returns to the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the aforementioned story, an upcoming vote by the Central Bucks School District to either ban or allow ‘sexualized content' in library books. In today's third hour, Dom welcomes Pennridge School District President Joan Cullen back onto the Dom Giordano Program, to gather her expertise on the decision by Central Bucks School District to change a school policy allowing the school board to ban books with sexual content. In the media, this decision has been framed as an attack against LGBTQ+ individuals. Giordano asks Cullen for the justification of such a ban, with Cullen telling why she's pushed in her own school district for similar edicts. Giordano and Cullen discuss the intricacies of sexual education, with both stressing the importance of responsibility in what is shown and taught to children. (Photo by Getty Images)

After that, Giordano returns back to national politics, discussing the stock market for the day and how it ties into the rampant inflation of the Biden administration. Dom then returns to a topic discussed earlier, an appearance by PA gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano on Ben Stein's podcast, in which the host drew comparisons to Nazi Germany, which Giordano takes umbrage with. Today I sit down with Jamie Walker, who rose to prominence during the COVID pandemic through her advocacy for school normalcy. We focus in on the initial failures of Central Bucks School District to manage the challenges of COVID, and how Jamie's lawsuit and Right-to-Know requests helped turn the tide. For a deeper dive into this story and many others that Jamie has been a part of, stay tuned for the upcoming "American Grassroots Podcast" from Megan Brock.
Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of Biden's inauguration. So, how things going, dog? As expected, Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, sided with Republicans and voted against changing Senate filibuster rules to pass voting rights legislation, despite claiming to support the legislation. That means, of course, that voting rights legislation was blocked by a minority of Senators. The vote shined a bright light on the fact that any major legislation favored by Democrats or progressives is dead in the water if the composition of the Senate remains the same. Biden and Democratic Party leaders now say they will try to break up and scale down Biden's signature Build Back Better bill in an attempt to get some of it passed. However, it is unclear how that would happen. Even if some of it did, this means that the U.S. government will not pass critical legislation necessary to address multiple crises heading straight for us. Don't Look Up, folks. Biden's approval ratings hit a new low with a majority of Americans disapproving over his handling of his job as president, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Perhaps even more troubling for Biden, only 28% of respondents said they wanted Biden to run for reelection in 2024 - that includes only 48% of Democrats. Maybe time for a war? Well, that looks like a distinct possibility as Russia threatens to invade Ukraine. Biden didn't help matters this week when he seemed to indicate that the U.S. and NATO allies might not respond if Russia made a “minor incursion” into Ukraine. That, as you can imagine, didn't go over well with Ukraine leaders. U.S. Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken has hardened the U.S. stance, now telling Ukraine leaders the U.S. is committed to a "united, swift and severe response" if Moscow commits further aggression against Ukraine. The aftermath of the volcanic explosion near Tonga, the devastation is only now becoming clear. Malcolm Kenyatta and Conor Lamb scored important endorsements for the US Senate race. Kenyatta picked up the endorsements of SEIU Healthcare PA, 32 BJ, 668 and the state council while Conor Lamb picked up Mayor Jim Kenney, a couple of city council members and the building trades. Rumor has it that Lamb is also seeking the endorsement of the Philadelphia Park Authority. Josh Shapiro seems to have missed the past couple of years in Democratic politics, leaning into the “ReFund” the police and “more cops” messaging from the 1990s. Philadelphia council member Bobby Henon, resigned from City Council after a federal jury convicted Henon along with Johnny “Doc” Dougherty on corruption charges. Henon was convicted of selling his seat out to serve Johnny Doc's personal and political interests. Henon said he would not step down, but just a month ahead of his sentencing hearing, he seems to have changed his mind. A middle school student in Kutztown formed the “Team Banned Book Club” after local and national extremism leading to banning books and raucous school board meetings screaming about critical race theory. Joslyn Diffenbaugh, an 8th grade student in Kutztown, formed the group because she “wanted to make sure teens have access to books that they can personally relate to or have interest in and not let groups in our community dictate what we can and cannot read.” And as the Pennridge School District continues to ban and remove books that mention gender identity or engage racism, a group calling itself the Pennridge Improvement Project is working to make those books accessible by stocking “Little Libraries” around the district with school board banned books. And a Pennridge student group, Pennridge Rise Up, is petitioning against the book banning and favor of DEI initiatives. Doylestown Health calls on Central Bucks School District to change their COVID plan because the hospital is overwhelmed with cases. You'll recall that last week the Central Bucks school board passed a health and safety plan that they knew did not follow CDC guidelines, despite stating that they were. The James Webb telescope successfully deployed all of its 18 hexagonal mirrors ahead of schedule and is on its way to its permanent orbit around L2 - the Earth-Sun Lagrange Point - about a million miles from Earth. It should enter that orbit on Sunday, January 23. We should start getting images from Webb in about three months! Meatloaf died after becoming seriously ill with COVID. Kyrsten Sinema announces that she is willing to kill voting rights legislation because of her love of the filibuster. Her teary-eyed performance on the Senate floor all but sinks hopes to pass voting legislation this year. Schumer says they will begin debate on Tuesday and force the issue. The U.S. Supreme Court shoots down Biden's vaccine and testing mandate for private business. The leader of the Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, is indicted on charges of seditious conspiracy. Republicans from at least 5 states forged official elector certificates and sent them into the National Archives and the U.S. Senate ahead of the January 6 insurrection. The Republican Party is changing its rules to prevent any GOP presidential candidates from taking part in debates hosted by the Commission for Presidential Debates. And the Omicron variant of COVID is predictably swamping the U.S. and the federal government is just getting around to thinking about helping with masks and testing. The should get up and running sometime after the crisis has hit. What do you think? Summer? Pennsylvania House Speaker Bryan Cutler admitted earlier this week that he was in contact with the Jan 6th Commission. Makes you wonder who Jim Jordan and Scott Perry were meeting with in Harrisburg while they were attending the Stop the Steal rallies. Gubernatorial Candidates Lou Barletta and Charlie Gerow, and Charlie Gerow's co-worker, Kevin Harley, all signed their names presenting themselves as “electors” on forged documents that were submitted to the Dept of State and the US Library of Congress Full-time and adjunct faculty members at Harrisburg Area Community College will have their union election from Feb 24 to April 7. Faculty members at HACC have faced years of anti-union tactics from the administration to delay a union vote. The school was caught padding their faculty lists with professors who didn't teach in order to stop the card signing process. Central Bucks School District votes to lie that its health and safety play is following CDC guidelines. Pennridge School District just ignores all guidelines and says everyone back to school after three days, no masks needed. Tonight on Out d'Coup LIVE, I welcome Diana Leygerman to the show. Diana is a teacher, writer, and former Central Bucks School Board candidate. We'll be talking about the ongoing political and cultural battles that have erupted in the Central Bucks School district and districts across Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and the nation. Last month, The New York Times's podcast, "The Daily," ran a two-part story on the increasing tensions in the Central Bucks School District. Following that podcast, Diana Leygerman's article "Central Bucks is Not OK," filled in some of the holes and contexts in the Times's story. Her personal and critical account of what happened in Central Bucks should be required reading for all of us. Diana Leygerman is a teacher, writer, and a former CBSD school board candidate. She lives in Warwick, PA with her husband and their two children. She is the recipient of the Anne Frank teaching award and was honored at the SAFA Gala in 2018. Her work has been published in The Week, Smercornish, The Independent, Women's Health, and several other online and print publications. Leygerman wrote of experience being honored at the Spirit of Anne Frank Awards on her Medium page. She concluded: "My grandmother grew up surrounded by war and death and dictatorship. My parents fled from anti-Semitism. At 11 years old, I came to the United States as a Jewish refugee. I live my life every day trying to create a better world for my children and, as a teacher, for the children of others. In our world today, when basic human rights are once again threatened, I refuse to fall short of teaching the lessons I know my students must learn if they are to grow up in a world my grandmother could only dream of. In our world today, in a world that is eerily Orwellian, I know I must be a voice of progress, change, and protest." The Supreme Court's right-wing majority seems prepared to deal a death blow to Roe v. Wade, sending women's autonomy and equality back generations. Rebecca Traister's article in New York Mag, “The Betrayal of Roe,” should be at the top of your reading list as we prepare for a protracted fight. The Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus has now been confirmed in five U.S. states: California, Colorado, Minnesota, New York, and Hawaii. Strap in, folks. No government shutdown after conservatives cave. So glad to see that The Daily Beast got it right: “Steve Bannon's Jan. 6 Legal Strategy: ‘Blowing Up the Whole System.'” Honduras elected its first female president, Xiomara Castro, from the leftist Liberty and Refoundation Party. Her husband, Manuel Zelaya was president from 2006-2009 and was ousted by a military coup. Barbados boots the Queen and becomes a republic. And Chris Cuomo also got the boot from CNN this week after it was revealed he worked with his brother, the former and disgraced New York governor, Andrew Cuomo, on a communications strategy following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct on part of the former governor. We're not in Kansas anymore. Nope! Just Pennsylvania. Day-time TV show host Dr Oz has officially announced his campaign for the US Senate. The New Jersey Resident is looking to run as a Republican for Pennsylvania's open senate seat. David McCormick, President of the venture capitalist firm Bridgewater, is also getting to run for Pennsylvania's US Senate. Expect McCormick to become the frontrunner given his connections to the Trump infrastructure. Central Bucks School District is back in the New York Times following their two-part podcast on their explosive school board meetings about mask requirements and critical race theory. In the latest article, we get to see the real crises hitting the district regarding inadequate staffing, overcrowded classrooms, and declining resources - even in this fairly well-off, Bucks County school district. In the #PA01 in Bucks County, Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick is getting primaried from his right. Last week Perkasie resident and America First Party guy Bradley Lanning announced his challenge to Fitzpatrick. Yesterday, Trumpista Caroline Avery of Bristol threw her hat in the ring because she says Fitzpatrick "ignores the Trump agenda, ignores the Constitution, votes with the anti-American Democrat members, and basically (doesn't represent) anybody or anything but himself" in Congress. It will be a wild ride. Could “mushroom leather” be in your future? Could be. Diving into the Wheel of Time & the new season of Star Trek Discovery. The Counter Narrative: Changing the Way We Talk (and think) About Education
In this episode, I chat with Suzanne Dailey, a proud instructional coach in the Central Bucks School District, the 3rd largest in Pennsylvania. Here she has the honor and joy of working with elementary teachers and students in 15 buildings. Suzanne is Nationally Board Certified, a Fellow of the National Writing Project, and has a Masters Degree in Reading. She is dedicated to nurturing and developing the whole child and teacher. Suzanne lives in Doylestown, Pennsylvania with her husband, two children, and English Bulldog. During our chat, Suzanne shares a much needed and timely concept of teaching happier by infusing joy into classrooms. She discusses the need for modifying traditional approaches to professional development by leveraging teacher voice and choice to focus on their individual needs and learning styles. Suzanne acknowledges the struggle of infusing the human element into remote teaching but also stresses the importance of teachers and leaders to show up in the best way we can for those we serve and to continue showing them love, compassion, and support. Enjoy.
