"Behold! Aeschylus! Father of Tragedy!" Arthur and Kozlowski find themselves in Athens, in the midst of the Dionysia, a great theatre competition. Socrates, Euripides and Aeschylus are all competing for the prestigious prize of... a goat! But The Brotherhood of the Phoenix have come to Athens for more than just watching plays. Why does Aeschylus, wildly successful author of The Oresteia, Prometheus Unbound and Agamemnon want to fake his death? The episode is written by Philip Thorne and Oystein Brager, with dialogue editing by Philip Thorne and sound design by Paul Kraner. It features Alan Burgon as the Interviewer, Dino Kelly as Aeschylus, Hemi Yeroham as Kozlowski, Tim Meredith, Rhys Lawton, Adam Courting and Nathan Peter Grassi as the chorus, and Felix Trench as the Chorus Leader. The chorus was recorded at Soho Sonic in London, with engineering by Beth Grainger. If you are interested in the Daily Bible Devotional, you can find it at the links below:Amazon - (paperback, hardcover, and Kindle)Spiritbuilding.com - (premium quality paperback)Youtube Video Introducing the ContentFeel free to reach out with any questions: emersonk78@me.comRomans 7 Paul explores the believer's relationship with law and the ongoing struggle with sin. He explains that through Christ, Christians have died to the Old Law and are no longer bound by its demands, enabling them to bear fruit for God. The law itself is not sinful, but it reveals sin, emphasizing man's inability to achieve righteousness on his own. Paul shares his personal struggle, acknowledging the inner conflict between his desire to do good and the sin that too often resides within him. This tension exemplifies the human condition: even with a desire to obey God, sin remains a problem. If justification depends on perfectly adhering to the Law of Moses or any law, then there would be no hope. But “thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!” Marriage illustrates that God's laws, be it matrimony, Moses's Law, or the law of conscience, bind for life. However, death severs this bond, allowing union with another. We should thank God daily for Jesus' death, which frees us from the burden of law and unites us with Him. No law apart from Christ—whether the law of Moses or Gentile morality—can save us, as we all fail to keep the law perfectly. While Christ's law does exist, our justification comes through grace, not perfect obedience. This truth is crucial as we continually wrestle with sin. Like Paul, we often stumble in frustrating, repeated ways. This struggle should deepen our thankfulness for Jesus, where forgiveness and hope are found. Dear Lord, we praise You for the freedom bestowed upon us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for liberating us from the burden of law. None of us can perfectly uphold any law, and without Christ, there would be no hope of redemption for our sins. We honor You for redeeming us in Him and guiding us to follow His will and produce fruit of gratitude for You. Father, we mourn our sins. Too often, we wish to obey but still find ourselves falling short. Thank You for freeing us from the penalty of our failures through Jesus.  Thought Questions: -       Paul uses marriage as an example of the life-long intent of law. Does this principle of honoring marriage for life still hold today? -       Does redemption from the burden of the law mean we now have no law? Why must we still “bear fruit for God” in Christ's church?  -       Do you know the misery of choosing sin in the flesh when your spirit only wants to do right? How does Christ help you through such times?

In the eighth episode of "The Fundamentals of Prayer," Brother Duane explores the power of praying "in the name of Jesus." It's not just a phrase we add to the end of our prayers, but a declaration of our authority and relationship with Christ. Praying in Jesus' name means praying according to His will, word, and assignment, with the full backing of Christ's authority and power. In John 14, 15, and 16, Jesus promises that whatever we ask in His name, the Father will give us. By aligning ourselves with God's will and purpose, our prayers are based not on our righteousness but on Christ's righteousness.https://pastorduane.com/fundamentals-of-prayer/

Gospel Matthew 7:21-29 Jesus said to his disciples: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?' Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.' "Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined." When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes. Reflection Jesus is pointing out something very important about what we do. You can do actions that are according to what God wants, but your heart can be far, far from him. What he's saying is that the only way that we can do the work of God is by connecting with God, about God being within us, God being the source of what we do. It's why he says to those that say, we're doing everything for you, everything in your name. And he looks at them and simply says, you don't know me. You haven't contacted me. You haven't asked for me to be the source of the work that you do. It creates a house built on sand. Closing Prayer Father, you are the source of all good that flows from us. And you simply give us the generous gift of your authority, your strength. All you ask is that we allow you to come and be a part of our life. Allowing you to be the source, the foundation of everything that we do. And we ask this in Jesus' name, Amen. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In today's sobering Bible study, Rick and Doc walk us through Proverbs 5:1–7, exposing the subtle, seductive dangers of sin cloaked in sweet speech. This isn't just a warning about immoral women—it's a powerful metaphor for any deceptive voice or influence that pulls us off the path of godly wisdom. The duo emphasizes three essential commands: attend to God's wisdom, turn your ear in humility, and seek His understanding. They explain how the "strange woman" symbolizes folly, foolishness, and worldly temptation—slick, smooth, and sweet like honey, but leading ultimately to death and hell. The lesson also unpacks the word “discretion”—a neutral Hebrew term used for both godly planning and devilish schemes—and challenges each of us to examine our hearts, speech, and influences. Are we preserving God's knowledge with our lips or being lured by seductive speech? Wisdom, clarity, and repentance are the way out—and the Father is urgently calling us to hear Him now.Rick Wiles, Doc Burkhart. As we listen to St. Isaac the Syrian in Homily Three his focus shifts from speaking of the necessary foundation to be laid in the spiritual life, purity of mind, to drawing us further to purity of heart. Purity of mind is established through the toils of the ascetic life, including vigils, fasting, prayer and meditation upon the scriptures, etc.  One's attraction to the life of virtue grows. However, Isaac warns us that as quickly as it is formed within us, it can be lost. A soul may allow into the mind a thought or image that once again stirs up the passions and what has been gained through much prayer and struggle is lost quickly. Purity of heart, however, is something that only emerges by the grace of God and His action in our lives. All that St. Isaac speaks of in the ascetic life continues. However, purity of heart, the purification of the “sense of senses” comes only by many afflictions, deprivations, separation from fellowship with the world, and deadness to all things. It is truly a dying to self and self will and abandoning oneself to God completely. This is the stumbling block for the majority of mankind, including many Christians. It is to embrace the Cross. One is no longer soiled by little things, nor dismayed by conflicts and struggles. What Isaac is suggesting here is that a soul begins to be fed on solid food indigestible to those who are weak. Such purity of heart comes through many afflictions and is acquired over a long period of time. One's focus becomes fixed upon the Beloved and he becomes the lens through which one views everything. Saint Isaac describes it as a state of limpid purity, of that natural innocence once lost.  To regain such a state is difficult living in a world surrounded by so many things that foster not knowledge of God but rather knowledge of many evil realities. There is only one path to this purity and that is simplicity – desiring the one thing necessary and shaping one's whole life around that reality. This is the immediate goal of the spiritual life as St. John Cassian teaches. We are to abandon what is small in order that we might find what is truly great. We are to spurn what is superfluous and without value in order to discover that “treasure hidden in the field”. We are to become dead to the world in order that we might not live unto death. Saint Isaac reminds us that martyrs are not only those who have accepted death for belief in Christ, but those who die for the sake of keeping his commandments. He does not varnish the gospel for us, but rather brings into clear view the necessity of loving Christ above all things, including our own lives. What the world needs is martyrs – those who bear witness to the very love of the kingdom. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:01:31 Fr. In this episode from the ChinaPower Podcast, Dr. Joseph Torigian joins host Bonny Lin to discuss his newly released book, The Party's Interests Come First: The Life of Xi Zhongxun, Father of Xi Jinping. Dr. Torigian describes the life and struggle of Xi Zhongxun as a party official during the Cultural revolution and specifically the impact he had on the life and political views of Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Dr. Torigian notes that his book utilizes the story of Xi Zhongxun's life as a lens to better understand how the Party works and why both Xi Zhongxun and Xi Jinping believe certain values, such as those of sacrifice and suffering for the greater good, are highly important. He describes how Xi Jinping was viewed positively by his father due to the idea that his son had “eaten more bitterness” than other children, even going as far as to state that Xi Jinping had “the makings of a premier.” Dr. Torigian describes how deeply involved Xi Zhongxun was during his time in the party on the United Front, ethnic policy in Tibet and Xinjiang, and policy towards Taiwan, and how, because of his father's dedication to these issues, Xi Jinping views them as personal unfinished business. Finally, Dr. Torigian describes how Xi Zhongxun's influence on his son has left Xi Jinping with a Hobbesian view of the world and with the idea that the Party is the best tool for helping China assert its rightful place in the world and secure its inevitable march towards greatness.

What's in the future? We are weak in our faith and we tend to conceive of the future as if God is not going to be there. In this episode of Contemplata, Fr. James explains that in the fifth paraclete promise assures us there is no future without God in it. In fact, the future belongs to the Father. We don't know the future or what the circumstances or the events of the future will be, but we do know that whatever they are, God will be there for us. As a newly married couple, Heather Day and her husband Robert found themselves in debt. Through prayerful surrender, the Lord navigated them out of that pit. The myth that our worth comes from material possessions keeps so many in bondage. Heather emphasizes that we do not need to strong-arm ourselves into better financial practices. A disordered relationship with money can be healed by placing our confidence, self-worth and hope for provision in God the Father. What happens when our hearts operate from a place of abandonment rather than security in God's love? This episode delves into the concept of "living from an orphan heart" – that desperate longing to be attached to someone or something that will provide worth and security. The conversation explores the parable of the Prodigal Son through a fresh lens – not just as a story of rebellion and return, but as a profound illustration of two sons (one who "got busy" and one who "got lost") who both struggled to grasp their father's unconditional love. Most revealing is how the father continually addresses both as "my son," emphasizing relationship over performance. For those wrestling with trust issues, control tendencies, fear of abandonment, or performance-based identity, this episode offers both insight and hope. The journey from orphan mindset to secure sonship begins with awareness of these patterns and an invitation to hear God's persistent voice calling us back to our true home in His heart.
