For the Record is a conversation series where we speak with all manner of music heads — DJs, music journos, indie label captains, record shop owners, listening bar kingpins, et al — about their stories + the music that makes them. Join the Crate Coalition: https://discord.gg/sAaG6a7bv4 Dicky Trisco is a DJ and music producer who lives and breathes what he does. His passion for music and desire for good times is well known. He has spent years chasing that sound and that feeling around the globe as an international DJ. For him DJing is all about people. He is addicted to the way music connects people and makes for better days. Dicky really broke through as a DJ and producer in the Nu Disco/Disco Revival years from around 2004. In particular, his run of DJ edit, original and remix releases alongside Balearic House hero Pete Herbert on Disco Deviance and Maxi Discs led to him becoming an increasingly in demand DJ with a busy international touring schedule. He is also rumoured to be the force behind the rather legendary Secret Squirrel vinyl only imprint. But who knows??? It's a secret. Since those early days, Dicky has toured constantly around Asia, Australia, Central/South America, USA, Europe and the UK sharing the music and the sound he loves. He has also become a regular at a long list of high profile festivals including the legendary Glastonbury, Electric Elephant, Mareh, Love International, Festival No 6 and many more. Dicky is also a mainstay of the local scene in his hometown of Dundee, Scotland where he was a resident of the infamous ‘Small Town Club' aka Reading Rooms for over a decade. At nights like Autodisco, Disco Deviance, A Night With and Non Stop, he learned his trade playing alongside many of his heroes and legendary DJs from around the world such as Andrew Weatherall, Optimo, Rahaan, Jazzie B, Horse Meat Disco, Farley Jackmaster and many more. Dicky also ran and curated the well-respected House music label Home Taping Is Killing Music for many years putting out a run of amazing releases. Home Taping broke a number of great House artists who have gone on to become household names in the scene including The Blessed Madonna, The Revenge, Nicholas, Borrowed Identity, Eddie C & Medlar amongst others. Dicky continues to discover, produce and remix music for a number of quality imprints including Razor-N-Tape, File Under Disco, Home Taping, Barefoot Beats, Nervous Records and many more. He has also remixed major artists such as Bryan Ferry, Belle & Sebastian, L'Impératrice, Edwyn Collins (Orange Juice), Danielle Baldelli, Faze Action, The Orielles, Golden Dawn Arkestra and Tensnake down in his basement studio. Most recently Dicky has been creating original music alongside NYC music machine JKriv under the name Sentimental Animals for the Razor-N-Tape imprint. Their Love Vibration EP was very well received by disc jockeys around the world and has been played by the likes of Craig Charles who made it one of his Tracks of 2021 on his BBC Radio 6 Funk & Soul show. Dicky became a resident DJ at Pikes in Ibiza in the summer of 2023 playing in every area - poolside, terrace, Freddies, bathtub - in this legendary club. He also kick started a monthly radio show out of Ibiza called International Sounds on OpenLab Radio where he showcases the music he discovers, makes and plays while travelling around the globe. As a disc jockey, DT packs a little bit of everything into his sets of International Sounds and is committed to the idea that music and club nights should be all about escapism, joy and togetherness. As Dicky says love and dancing is what we need. Amen to that.

#leadership, #projectmager, #risk, #realstory, #failure.

Throughout my twenties I wasn't interested in going to festivals. I rarely listened to new music, my morning alarm would be joined by Magic FM playing the same songs on repeat that I'd known all my life. I also didn't like the thought of camping, the dirt, the portaloo's, the greasy hair. I just didn't think I'd enjoy it. And then as part of my transition into single life I dipped my toe into Field Day in London - a one day festival within walking distance of my flat which I obviously loved, from here I moved on to Glastonbury and others followed. Due to CoronaVirus all our festivals have been cancelled for 2020, so for a bit of nostalgia, I thought it would be nice to share some festival experiences and dedicate an episode to our absent festivals. This episode takes a slightly different approach to others because it features 6 individual events rather than one overarching story over time. Join Jewish Comedians Rachel Creeger and Philip Simon for Episode 7 of their comedy podcast, a chat show about all things Jewish produced by Russell Balkind. This week's guests are actor, comedian and improvisor Ben Van Der Velde, and comedian and writer for TV and radio Juliet Meyers.Ben Van Der Velde: @BenVanDerVeldewww.benvandervelde.comOver the past decade Ben Van der Velde has spread joy and nonsense to all four corners of the British Isles, as well as Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Norway. He is a regular host and act for respected British comedy clubs such as The Comedy Store, Komedia, The Glee, The Stand, the Frog & Bucket and Comedy Club 4 Kids, as well as hosting stages for Bestival, Festival No.6, End of the Road and Sunday Papers Live. He also has experience of performing at RAF Bases, large corporate events, hosting comedy workshops and doing audience warm-up for Deal Or No Deal. On top of that, he has taken commissions to perform a voodoo re-marriage ceremony, founded the Church of the Holy Kazoo with comedy legend Mark Thomas, walked the entire London Underground network to raise money for The Refugee Council, hosted a comedy tour of the FIFA Museum in Zurich and even took part in experiments at The Royal Society that revealed him to have the most infectious laugh of any human, rat or monkey. Ben is a regular performer at the Edinburgh Festival, where he has performed five critically-acclaimed shows: Chain Letter, Strudelhead, Barbarians,Sidekick and Fablemaker. In 2016 his show received 5 and 4 star reviews, whilst several of jokes made it into lists of ‘Best Joke at the Fringe' compiled by The Scotsman, i-News and The Huffington Post. Ben is co-host of podcast “Worst Foot Forward” and also runs “Classic Joke Club” as an Edinburgh show.Juliet Meyers: @julietmeyersJuliet Meyers is a stand-up comedian, MC and writer and recently appeared on Jason Manford's weekly stand up show on Zoom. She has written for Sarah Millican, on “The Sarah Millican Television Programme” and her radio series “Elephant in the Room”. Juliet has also written for panellists on “8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown” (channel 4), “Mock The Week” (BBC2), Radio 4's “News Quiz” and “Now Show”, Radio 2's “Listomania with Susan Calman”, “Breaking the News” (BBC Radio Scotland),as well as topical jokes for various end of the year news round ups. Juliet has taught comedy at University of Brunel and courses on self expression and resilience through comedy at various secondary schools. She was previously a writer and editor of educational teen magazines for 10 years. A familiar face at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival since 2004, her solo shows have been received with critical acclaim. Most recently she has been working with a new comedy partner, her dog Homer, who co-starred in “This Flipping Rescue Dog Has Ruined My Life” and “Year of the Dog”. Before Coronavirus put a stop to those sort of shenanigans, Juliet was starting to preview a brand new show, “Found” in which she talks about how she “went to India to discover my Iraqi-Jewish roots and unleashed family feuds, bad gurus, smug sex therapists and furious monkeys. I fell out with my travel companion and I nearly died (twice).” Like our very own Rachel Creeger, Juliet is part of the rotating cast for Sajeela Kershi's award winning show “Immigrant Diaries”.--------------------------------------------------------------------- So those are our guests. It's another Soundtracking Live this week - this time recorded a month or so back at Festival No 6 in the weird and wonderful village of Portmerion, north Wales. Our guest that day was a novelist, playwright and occasional director of shorts, who well and truly thrust himself into the pop cultural consciousness with Trainspotting, and Danny Boyle's subsequent film adaptation of the same name. We are, of course, talking about Irvine Welsh. Irvine was on fine form - discussing everything from his unlikely love of musicals and rom coms to the directors and composers who've inspired him as both a writer and a great fan of cinema. It all seemed to go down well with a packed audience, which made a very long round-trip more than worthwhile. Expect music from from Oliver, Boogie Nights, Pulp Fiction and more ...
In February 2017, 2000 AD celebrated four decades of cutting edge comics at the 40 Years of Thrill-power Festival in London and we are proud to give you a front row seat for panels with some of the best creators in comics today... Host Michael Molcher talks to Simon Bisley, Glenn Fabry, Clint Langley and Simon Davis - all iconic artists on Pat Mills' Sláine. They discuss their work from almost four decades of the Celtic barbarian, from Glenn Fabry’s incredible black and white line work of the ‘80s to Simon Bisley’s groundbreaking painted art on The Horned God and into the 21st Century with Clint Langley and Simon Davies. Please note: this panel was recorded using hand-held microphones in front of a live audience so sound quality may be variable.

Unheard and unreleased tracks by Suzanne Ciani, Jane Weaver's Fenella, Gerry & The Holograms (and more!) make up this silver tray of sonic hors d'oeuvres magnetising you to the mountains of North Wales for this special September annual event. Just in time for our annual omni-presence at Festival No Six your faithful guardians of the Keepers Cottage, Andy Votel, Pete Mitchell and Doug Shipton provide an aural tour guide to the many Finders Keepers Records' curated events over the weekend. For a festival held in the actual filming location of Patrick Magoohan's inimitable 1960's TV thriller, the B-Music brigade assemble their nearest and dearest to keep the commune cosmic, providing off-kilter treats for both the eye-drums and ear-balls. Also serving as a fine 2 hour road trip, this show cherry picks the best accompaniments for your journey into the depths of the Welsh valleys and also serves as another multifarious magnetic musik magazine for those who can't make it to the festival itself but will surely join us in spirit! Be seeing you!?
It All Adds Up (Shinedown) 3. Tears Don't Fall (Bullet For My Valentine) 4. Politiks (Far From Alaska) 5. A Near Life Experience (Woslom) 6. Acorda Pra Vida (Project46) 7. Still Here (Ego Kill Talent) 8. The Light (Disturbed) 9. Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) (Marilyn Manson) 10. Here's To Us (Halestorm)
And The Sun Also Rises! As holiday season starts to distract us and it’s no longer safe to leave record bags in the hot boot, the residents of The Keepers Cottage decide to take a sonic vacation in this bonus edition of The Finders Keepers Radio Show with episode NUMBER SIX (cue Ron Grainer). What better numeric than the smallest positive integer to celebrate our love for all things related to The Prisoner/Portmeirion and the inimitable Festival No 6 at which Finders Keepers continue to play an integral role. Two short months in advance of our mass exodus to this North Wales nirvana our regular hosts Andy Votel, Pete Mitchell and Doug Shipton reveal line-ups for our three daily stages at the September 3rd-6th long weekender and play a varied crate of multilingual records spanning old and new prior to their festival live performances. Combining cosmic pop, pocket punk, foreign fuzz and soundtrack psych, this episode boasts exclusive debuts of brand new tracks by Gruff Rhys and David Holmes both of whom will play key roles in the Speedlearn Separado (Welsh-Patagonian) film tent followed by two days of live music from Finders Keepers and Bird Records (on the original location of Patrick McGoohan's unrivalled 60's TV location!). Joined in the studio by Electric Mountaineer Jane Weaver and Andy "T.R.A.S.E." Popplewell (1980s teenage synth surgeon) what better place to encapsulate all this sneak preview material than our regular radiophonic fuzz fanzine and what better time for the uninitiated to discover both www.findersKeepersRecords.com and www.festivalnumber6.com as your new favourite purveyors of earworms, eye candy and "ultimate cakes & treats" just in time for the warping season. As they say in Porthmadog's favourite communist ex-fed retirement village... "Be seeing you" xxxxxx
Heavy afro-tinged sounds this week from Leeds-based leftfield party crew Cave Paintings. Taking us on a journey through psychedelic tribal disco that doesn't sound out of place in a steamy rain forest or on desert plains, their unique style has led them to curate the Dogon Village area at Festival No.6; where the thick tangled woods and trippy jungle sounds add to the ethereal atmosphere they create. We team up next Friday to bring ESP Institute's Young Marco over from Amsterdam for a debut show. We caught Peza soundtracking a beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon last September at the fantastic Festival No.6 and ever since then he's been on our hit list for a mix. Of course, we were already well aware of his super-cool edits on Authodiscotheque and A&R. If you've not heard his Human League re-interpretation; you simply aint dancing in the right places. Look out for a forthcoming remix of Tronik Youth's 'Splinter of the Mind's Eye' on Nein, and his next single 'Mekon' on Peter Herbert's Maxi Discs. Scottish folk could do worse than head to the Reading Rooms in Dundee on March 27th where Peza plays with Dicky Trisco and ALFOS. His mix for us is a beauty; very much the sound of where underground dance music is at in 2015 as far as we're concerned. Lock yourself in, Peza is at the controls... https://soundcloud.com/peza70
