Challenged by a legacy of oligarchic state capture and a war raging in neighboring Ukraine, Moldova has made significant strides in recent years in putting in place anti-corruption structures that strengthen the rule of law and democratic institutions. In the forefront of that effort is Moldova's Chief Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, Veronica Dragalin, a former Assistant United States Attorney who emigrated from Moldova as a child. In this episode of Democracy that Delivers, Dragalin discusses her innovations that she's introduced such as plea agreements, as well as the importance of building trust in the judiciary among a skeptical public. She joins Frank Brown, Director of CIPE's Anti-Corruption & Governance Center, and Natalia Otel Belan, Director of CIPE's Europe and Eurasia Division, to highlight her unique personal story, explain Moldova's prosecutorial process, share the challenges and innovative tactics her office has used to crack down on corrupt behavior, and preview future plans for addressing corruption. This podcast is brought to you by CIPE's Anti-Corruption & Governance Center.

The guests join Frank Brown, Director of CIPE's Anti-Corruption & Governance Center, to discuss who the law covers, the steps needed to enforce it, and what it means for other countries seeking to adopt similar legislation. This podcast is brought to you by CIPE's Anti-Corruption & Governance Center.
Amy Miller-Taylor, Executive Director, and Elsa Peraldi, Associate Director, are executives at Global Integrity, a Washington-based anti-corruption NGO that is closing at the end of 2023. In its 18 years of existence, Global Integrity helped nurture what is today a global anti-corruption movement of unprecedented scope and impact. The organization was established on the belief that transformative change requires deep local expertise, something it helped build into CIPE's operations. Miller-Taylor and Peraldi speak with Frank Brown, director of CIPE's Anti-Corruption & Governance Center, to discuss why Global Integrity is closing, what might have been done to prevent it, and how Global Integrity's legacy will be preserved for the scores of anti-corruption organizations that had depended on the organization. Frank Brown fronted one of the best Philadelphia bands of the 90s, Flight Of Mavis. When the touring life (which featured opening for the late Sinead O'Connor amidst her rise to stardom) couldn't pay the bills, Frank put the band to bed, and started Buzz Zeemer, which was never intended to have any ambition at all. Flash forward to 2023, and Pat Feeney at Main Street Music in Manayunk put out a full length record of Buzz Zeemer material that was recorded back in the mid 90s called 'Lost And Found'. Frank talks to Dan about the Philly music scene back in the day, what he's been up to for almost 25 years, and the joy of his music connecting with people so long after the fact. 'Lost and Found' is available wherever you get digital music, and on vinyl at Main Street Music.

In tiny towns and massive cities across Canada, it can be typical—and legal—to have a vegetable patch or a few chickens. But Newfoundland and Labrador has what many see as strict and outdated rules when it comes to growing your own food. Ironically, or perhaps relatedly, the province also has some of the highest rates of food insecurity in Canada. It's all part of why Frank Brown, a small town farmer, was appalled when he was told that his farm is a bylaw infraction, and that his animals have got to go. And he's not alone—some of Frank's neighbours were given the same notice. Caroline Hillier heads out to Summerford, Newfoundland to meet people who think producing their own food is plain common sense. And to find out what impact rules like these have on communities, beyond what we eat?

Let's take it back to the beginning ya'll...Many would consider the 1947 Kenneth Arnold story to be the first widely reported UFO sighting. On June 24th, 1947 private pilot Kenneth Arnold flew his A2 Plane out of an airfield in Chehalis Washington headed toward Yakima Washington. Along the 150 miles journey Kenneth deviated from his flight path in order to locate a Marine C46 Transport aircraft that had recently crashed near Mt Rainier along with 32 Marine passengers. The reward for finding the crash site was $5,000. Just as he passed Mt Rainier, Kenneth was overtaken by a bright flash that consumed his plane's cockpit. To the left of his airplane he witnessed 9 shiny half-circular shaped flying craft with an estimated 100ft wing-span in a chain-like formation. The craft at the front of the formation was higher in elevation than the craft in the rear. The formation flew a distance of 50 miles in under 1 minute and 42 seconds which calculates to a speed of around 1,700 miles per hour. Kenneth noticed the craft did not have stabilizers or tails but thought they could have been some type of secret military plane when he reported his sighting to the general manager at the Yakima airfield upon his landing. The first investigation of Arnold's claims came from Lt. Frank Brown and Capt. William Davidson of Hamilton Field in California, who interviewed Arnold on July 12. Arnold also submitted a written report at that time. Regarding the reliability of Arnold's sighting, they concluded:"It is the present opinion of the interviewer that Mr. Arnold actually saw what he stated he saw. It is difficult to believe that a man of [his] character and apparent integrity would state that he saw objects and write up a report to the extent that he did if he did not see them."Soon the press got wind of the story and reporters flocked to get an interview with Kenneth about his experience. When asked about how the craft flew, Kenneth described the flying craft as being half-moon-shaped skipping through the sky like a boat over rough water, flashing light as they skipped like a saucer over water. Thus the infamous term “Flying Saucer” was created from the misunderstanding by the general public of Kenneth Arnold's reference.--Script written by: Ben Jinkins & Joe StrelskyVoice Acting Performed by: William (AKA BigWilly) Townsend, Ben Jinkins & Joe StrelskySound Design: Ben JinkinsProduced by: Joe Strelsky, Ben Jinkins & Cinnamon Terryhttps://ufogaragepodcast.com/Copyright Ufo Garage LLC

How can we bridge the gap and bring equality to education in America? How has COVID impacted students who live in low income areas? What can we do? My guest today, Frank Brown, heads up an organization that is answering the call for how to help those students who are most at-risk for falling behind and not graduating high school. He is Chief Executive Officer of Communities In Schools of Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta was deemed the income inequality capital two years in a row, prior to Covid. This inequality leads to many more problems, including: housing insecurity, inequality in educational opportunities and lack of appropriate health care. Communities In Schools (CIS) of Atlanta is an award-winning dropout prevention organization that was established in Atlanta, Georgia in 1972. What began in the basement of a modest home in the Grant Park community is now the nation's largest dropout prevention network with a proven track record of positively impacting graduation rates. Their mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Listen in to hear how CIS is making such a positive impact in Atlanta and throughout the country and how we can get involved supporting such an important mission. Notable Quotes: "I tell my team, if we get it right in Atlanta, it's a blueprint for the rest of the country, the world, on how to deal with some of the poorest people in this country and get them to become full participants in the American dream." "There was a report that came out in Atlanta that said only 3 out of 10 black kids will be proficient in reading and math after Covid, that's 30%. We are talking about whole generations lost." "Sometimes people look at poverty, and look at people we serve as inanimate objects. They are human beings, they have dreams and aspirations just like you and I and they want to make clear choices, but there's systematic racism and all types of barriers that they've been under for years." Financial Times investigative journalist Tom Burgis, author of the recently released book, Kleptopia, and one of the brightest minds in global corruption, is the guest on the latest edition of the Democracy That Delivers podcast from the Anti-Corruption and Governance Center with CIPE hosts Ken Jaques and Frank Brown. Listen now to hear more about how Burgis' "nonfiction thriller" breaks down the technical complexity of foreign corruption and money laundering into the human stories of four individuals at the nexus of foreign kleptocracy, as well as a discussion about the damage corrupt foreign money inflicts on democratic institutions.
Deglobalization, nationalism, and the global COVID-19 pandemic are challenging efforts to fight corruption. Joined this week by anti-corruption veteran, thought leader, and chair of the OECD Working Group on Bribery, Dragos Kos, CIPE host and anti-corruption director Frank Brown leads a discussion about how new measures—including economic sanctions, diplomacy, and a possible international anti-corruption criminal court—may help countries and activists combat rising global integrity challenges.
In this debut edition of CIPE’s Anti-Corruption & Governance Center podcast series, we are joined by Badri El Meouchi. El Meouchi is president of the board of directors of the Lebanese Transparency Association (LTA) and has been working to battle corruption in the country for more than 15 years. El Meouchi describes an aggressive reform agenda to bring Lebanon back from the brink and announces LTA’s role in a coalition to monitor humanitarian relief and recovery assistance, and to ensure government accountability. This podcast is hosted by Frank Brown, Director of the Anti-Corruption & Governance Center, and co-hosted by Stephen Rosenlund, CIPE’s Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa.
This week on Democracy That Delivers, we are joined by Alina Mungiu-Pippidi, Professor of Democracy Studies at the Hertie School in Berlin, and Frank Brown, the Director of CIPE's Anti-Corruption and Governance Center. They discuss what led to the creation of the newly published Public Integrity Forecast and how the current COVID-19 pandemic and other events have had an effect on the forecast, as well as the connection between the Forecast and the Anti-Corruption Rapid Response program pioneered by CIPE. This podcast was hosted in conjunction with the Anti-Corruption and Governance Center (ACGC).

EPISODE 115 ON JERRY ROYCE LIVE!BOOK: UNTITLED (RELEASED DATE 12-2014)Frank Brown is a graduated Life and Relationship Coach from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. His love for transformational coaching and inspiring growth fuels his efforts to build motivation and healthy relationships across the nation. Frank truly believes that healthy relationships with others begin with a healthy relationship with yourself. He uses the message of self-love to show the power of clarity and purpose, and how they can lead to a more prosperous and passion-filled life in every aspect. “I believe that no man, woman or child on this earth was born void of purpose. To question ‘why I am here?’ is every man’s right, but the effort of discovering the answer is every man’s responsibility.”Losing his two older brothers at an early age, Frank began his journey of finding himself, but only after period of feeling totally lost. Wandering about without the desire to do anything but breathe, fighting depression and feeling void of purpose, he wondered why God would take someone who everyone loved so much and leave behind someone so useless. With the constant love and support of his family and friends, he found a reason to live again. Fueled by the memory of his loved ones and reborn with an insatiable hunger to help others, he attended life-coaching school and found new life in assisting people of all ages to find their own reasons to live. “Knowledge is not only power; it is responsibility. I know what it’s like to be in that hole of emptiness and I know the way out. It’s my responsibility to not only show as many other people as I can the way out, but onward and upward to a life of prosperity and fulfillment.”Today, Frank is known for his thought-provoking workshops and events, using his gifts to motivate and inspire. If he is not on a college campus speaking to students or on a panel debating the details of modern dating, you can bet he’s working on his first book due to be released in summer of 2014.
