If you had to pick one for your home, would it be a dry “finnish” sauna or an infrared sauna based on the health benefits? I know the dry saunas have been around forever and there are hundreds of studies on their benefits where as there doesn't seem to be as many on the infrared saunas. I'm 58 years old, work out regularly and eat a relatively healthy diet. Was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism many years ago and taking Np Thyroid at the present time. Three and a half years ago was surprised by a heart attack which lead to the placement of several stents on my LAD. This made me focus on my health and trying to find out what the underlying causes were although all explanations I got was that it was all genetics. Of course cardiologist wants me to take statins, aspirin and blood thinners for life which I'm not willing to do if I can help it. My question is about blood thinners and aspirin.Could something like proteolytic enzymes combined with omega-3 supplements work in a similar way?            Morgan: Hi Dr. Cabral,I've beenLoving your podcast for quite some time now. I'm wondering where you recommend to start when diagnosed with candida potentially due to mold. My doctor also thought I had a parasite and SIBO at this time and started me on albendazole and xifaxan. When taking Zyon, my fungal symptoms, significantly worsened. I started having severe dandruff, bloating, gas, fatigue. She now wants me to take prescription itraconazole for up to six months, along with atrantil PRO (which contains probiotics), magnesium, IGY, and DAO. What are your thoughts on these recommendations? Six months seems like a long period of time to me. Is this normally how long it takes, even if going the natural route? Would it be worthwhile to start the CBO protocol instead? Following Shackleton's death in 1922 which marked the end of the Heroic Age in Antarctic history, no major expedition occurred to Antarctica until 1928 when a naval aviator, Richard Byrd, ventured south with ambitions to be the first person to fly over the south pole. In this podcast, I provide the history of Byrd's expedition and his research station Little America on the Ross Ice Shelf. In addition, I discuss the territorial claims that were being made for parts of the Antarctic continent by that time and the events leading up to the International Geophysical Year of 1957-1958 when Antarctica became the focus of research with 40 stations established there by 12 nations. The IGY became a turning point in Antarctic history leading to the signing of the Antarctic Treaty in 1959.

Welcome to Times Will Tell, the weekly podcast from The Times of Israel. This week, at the tail end of Pride month, we're speaking with a leader of IGY — the Israel Gay Youth organization -- Rom Ohayon, who heads up all post-high school programs. Today, IGY is funded in part by the Israeli Ministries of Education, Health and Social Welfare, in addition to private donations. There are some 400 IGY volunteers who offer support and advocacy for over 4,000 gay youth a year throughout Israel. IGY works in conjunction with the IDF, the National Service programs, and is launching a new pre-military academy named after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg this fall. But it was not always on the Israeli scene and was only created in 2002 by Yaniv Weizman and Gal Ohovsky, specifically for youth aged 12-23. Its ongoing evolution and spread to all kinds of Israel's diverse communities means the group is gradually filling a massive void for gay youth and helping them stay integrated within Israeli society. By 2010, IGY started its post-high school Year of Service group. Some participants continue to the IDF's Nahal Brigade, which was founded by David Ben-Gurion in 1948 and traditionally combines military service with serving in small communities. Since 2018, several graduates of the service and army programs have settled in Afula and become IGY leaders. This is where we find 29-year-old Rom Ohayon today. Growing up as a baal teshuva in Skokie, Illinois, Jason's story takes him to Yeshivat Har Etzion in the Gush where (with a bit of help from Oscar Wilde) he came to embrace his queer identity. Today Jason is a volunteer for Belibeinu, IGY's Beit Midrash program and is active in Havruta as well as Shoval. On this episode of Mindful Impact with Justin Francisco, the host speaks with Steve Rodgers, a former Warren Buffet CEO and bestselling author of IGI Principles. Listen as they talk about the IGI Principle, how he helped business owners and leaders achieve success and abundance, as well as his inspirational story of his family.    Episode Highlights:  Steve Rodgers specializes in helping business owners and leaders increase profits while bringing spiritual intelligence into every aspect of personal and professional lives. Steve Rodger narrated his typical weekdays, from his morning routines, his deliverable throughout the day, up to his evening routines.  Steve is currently reading several books such as The Sermon on the Mount by Emmet Fox.  Steve usually reads a book excerpt, picks it up, absorbs it, and jumps into something else rather than reading the entire book.  Wayne Dyer is a great spiritual activist, psychologist, and therapist who said that Ego represented edging God out.  “Am I an Ego or am I an IGI” is Steve's mantra, which turned into principles.   Steve set his relationship with his wife as an example of dealing with IGI or Ego.  Sometimes ego is in control when trying to be right.  When dealing with clients, he usually checks first if his messages are coming from IGI or Ego.  Steve programmed his thoughts with IGI as if it is a device's operating system. Take time to pause and breathe in meditation when things are starting to heat up.  Before starting to do anything, Steve frames his thinking about preparing for an IGI mindset.  Steve starts narrating his transition point to his new journey. Steve always has the drive to do more, be more, get more when he got into a real estate business in the corporate American executive world.  Steve's Ego served him very well for many years. However, his addiction to driving, success, and alcohol started tripping around his soul.  Steve's tough, disciplinarian military father is the reason for him always trying to prove something.  Steve has regretted taking action against his father, but it made him prove he can finish high school and live on his own.  Part of the essential elements of the IGI formula are forgiveness, gratitude, morality, service, trust, and prayer meditation.   Steve letting go of his financially rewarding job as a CEO wasn't by trust, but out of necessity and fear as he was fired after 15 years of service.  He ran his real estate company for five years in the worst real estate market in history. Steve sold his real estate business and broke away from that as a purpose-driven consultant and speaker.  Steve thought that he was a good father when he was a CEO, but he realized it's the other way around from her daughter's perspective. His daughter told her he traumatized her by being a functional alcoholic when she was young.   Steve tells a story about how her daughter left a note on a laundry basket with empty bottles stating, "AA- You need help."  With such realizations caused by the note from her daughter, he ended up getting help and hasn't been drinking for 18 years.  Ego strives for serving self such as food, alcohol, adoration, praise, sex, money, material wealth. When you are giving that to the ego, you can never get enough of that.  Ego finds information and deletes other information to prove they are right.  It is hard to eradicate racism, addiction, self-destructive behavior, power because we justify the ability that we are better than the others.  Prayer meditation is the communication with the source for a higher power.  Steve's circle of friends when he was in the mid-'50s became much smaller in a much deeper relationship.  Steve usually meets his coaches once a week to twice per month, with text messages in between.  Steve has a 5-years holistic doctor, Dr. Meltzer, who challenged him to do a vegan plant-based diet.  The excessive power that we put on money will cause a problem with our balance.  Steve is motivating young entrepreneurs, young men and women, and seniors involved in business to be more focused on passion, purpose, and spiritual connection in the world.  Steve's definition of success is the daily connection to his higher source and being led by something besides himself.  Steve's relationship with the source is the most important and the most successful relationship that he has.  Steve would like to say to his 18-year-old self to find ways to not damage the ones you say you love the most sooner than later.   3 Key Points: Be in control of your Ego by programming your thoughts with IGI to have control of your emotion.  Focus on your passion, purpose, and spiritual connection with the higher source. IgY Max is a new compound designed to improve gut function with some decent research behind it which I’ll cover in this article. Thousands of studies are coming out every month on the gut microbiome and millions of people worldwide are suffering with gut issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBD), and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). We need all the tools we can get when it comes to gut health so I was excited to see the research on IgY Max and the introduction of GI Globulin Select by Moss Nutrition which contains IgY Max. Many people have gut problems because they have dysbiosis which basically means that the bacteria in the gut are out of balance. This means that there are too many harmful bacteria and not enough beneficial bacteria. IgY Max actually targets 26 of these bad bugs and helps your body suppress their growth. What is IgY Max? It is a compound made from specifically immunized chicken eggs. IgY is in the immunoglobulin family which basically means a protein that is important for immune function. Our bodies have the immunoglobulins IgG, IgA, IgE, IgM, and IgD all of which have important immune properties and functions. IgG makes up the bulk of the human immunoglobulin system which is used in products like colostrum or specific IgG products all designed for gut healing and immune health. IgY however has some advantages over IgG: IgY is 3 to 5 times stronger than IgG due to increased efficiency of the immune response IgY does not stimulate inflammation IgY has a more rapid and specific local response such as targeting specific bacteria Eggs have 20 times more immunoglobulins than IgG so it is more economical IgY Max does the following: Heals the gut lining making it ideal for leaky gut Ensures the right bugs stick to the gut lining and the wrong ones don’t stick Reduces harmful bacteria Supports overall immune system health Helps the body fight infections Reduces inflammation The gut barrier protection that this compound provides supports any probiotics or prebiotics that you may be taking. The “bad” bacteria are inhibited from multiplying and sticking to your gut lining so the good bacteria can remain intact. What does the research show on IgY Max? The first is a pilot study done by the company itself which can be a bad thing but not necessarily if the study is well done. Six subjects with mild to moderate gut complaints were given two 500mg capsules twice a day of IgY Max for 8 weeks and had gut assessments of zonulin, histamine, Diamine oxidase (DAO) for gut integrity at the beginning and the end of the study. Zonulin is a decent test for gut barrier integrity, histamine is a good marker for inflammation and gut barrier integrity, and DAO is the enzyme that breaks down histamine so low levels are connected with chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases. Three of the six subjects did a comprehensive digestive stool analysis to assess their gut bacteria as well as testing yeast. What were the results? None of the subjects had any adverse reactions to the supplement. The subjects did report improvements such less gas and bloating as well as feeling more energy at 8 weeks. Zonulin improved, DAO improved, and histamine improved in all six subjects. There was also an improvement in beneficial flora in all 3 subjects as noted on the repeat stool analysis. Lactobacillus was the specific strain in the gut that improved. Another clinical trial to mention is an unpublished study by Rehnini Ambekar, MD entitled, “Effect of a nutritious drink fortified with immune egg in improving the weight and enhancing the well-being of subjects.” In this study 14 patients with AIDS were given a drink that contained IgY egg powder for 8 weeks. Most of the patients reported significant improvements in all aspects of quality of life including energy levels, mood, and physical health. Dr.

Es wurden sechs turkey-Ig-like receptor (TILR) Sequenzen identifiziert, bestehend aus einer TILR-A, einer TILR-B und vier TILR-AB Sequenzen. Bei allen vier TILR-AB Sequenzen sind die fünf für die IgY-CHIR-AB-Bindung essentiellen Aminosäuren konserviert und für TILR-AB1 konnte die Bindung an IgY nachgewiesen werden. Interessanterweise bindet TILR-AB1 nicht nur IgY der Pute, sondern auch an IgY von Huhn, Wachtel und Fasan, die alle der Vogelfamilie der Phasanidae angehören. Bei drei ausgewählten Vertretern außerhalb dieser Familie (Graupapagei, Falke und Ente) konnte die IgY-Bindung an TILR-AB1 nicht nachgewiesen werden. Im Gegensatz zum Huhn, dessen CHIR-Familie auf einem Mikrochromosom lokalisiert ist, werden die in den Datenbanken vorhandenen TILR-Sequenzen und Fragmente dem Makrochromosom 3 zugeordnet. Auch im Expressionsmuster unterscheiden sich CHIR und TILR deutlich. Während die TILR-B-Expression nicht näher untersucht werden konnte, zeigte sich für TILR-A und TILR-AB, dass diese weder auf T- noch auf B-Zellen exprimiert werden. Auf Thrombozyten und Monozyten ist eine sehr hohe Expressionsrate sichtbar. Auffällig ist, dass der Großteil der TILR-A positiven Zellen auch TILR-AB coexprimiert. In den Datenbanken finden sich derzeit keine Hinweise auf das Vorhandensein von CHIR-Homologen bei Zebrafink, Fliegenschnäpper, Wellensittich und Ente. Auch die verfügbaren gegen CHIR gerichteten monoklonalen Antikörper zeigten auf Entenblut keine Kreuzreaktivität. Erst eine genaue Annotation der genomischen Daten wird Aufschluss darüber geben, inwiefern CHIR-homologe Rezeptorfamilien bei anderen Vogelspezies vorhanden und expandiert sind.

Der Ständige Ausschuss des Europäischen Übereinkommens zum Schutz von Tieren in landwirtschaftlicher Tierhaltung fordert in seinen Empfehlungen in Bezug auf Pekingenten (1999), dass Enten, sofern sie keinen Zugang zu Badewasser haben, mit solchen Wasservorrichtungen ausreichend versorgt werden müssen, die es ihnen ermöglichen, mit dem Schnabel Wasser aufzunehmen, den Kopf mit Wasser zu bedecken und sich problemlos Wasser über den Körper zu schütten. Ferner sollten sie die Möglichkeit haben, ihren Kopf unter Wasser zu tauchen. Im Rahmen dieser Studie wurde untersucht, inwieweit die Tränke AquaDuc T® (Firma Big Dutchman GmbH, Vechta) unter Praxisbedingungen die Tierhygiene und verschiedene Gesundheitsparameter von Cherry-Valley Pekingmastenten (Wichmann Geflügelproduktionsgesellschaft mbh, Wachenroth) beeinflusst. Diese Studie ergänzt die Arbeiten von HEUBACH (2007), KÜSTER (2007), KOPP (2005), MANZ (2005), NUSSER (2008) und REMY (2005), in welchen alternative Wasserversorgungsangebote für Pekingmastenten in Kleingruppen erforscht wurden. Die Untersuchungen wurden in drei Entenmastbetrieben durchgeführt, die über Mastkapazitäten zwischen 7.500 und 13.500 Tieren verfügten. Je nach Betrieb entsprach dies einer Besatzdichte von 19,9 - 20,5 kg/m2 (6,6 - 6,8 Tiere/m2). Bei allen Betrieben handelte es sich um Fensterstallungen, die das Umtriebsverfahren betrieben und Bodenhaltung auf Stroheinstreu praktizierten. Die Tränke AquaDuc T® wurde in jeder Stallung grundsätzlich auf der Gefällseite installiert, um einen bestmöglichen Wasserabfluss zu gewährleisten. In Betrieb 1 und Betrieb 3 wurden jeweils acht sich abwechselnde Kontroll- und Versuchsdurchgänge, in der Folge als Besuchsart bezeichnet, durchgeführt. In Betrieb 2 waren es aus betriebsinternen Gründen fünf. Während in den Kontrolldurchgängen die Tiere nur über Nippeltränken mit Tränkwasser versorgt wurden, standen ihnen während der Versuchsdurchgänge auch Rundtränken (ab dem 25. LT täglich für sechs Stunden mit vierstündigem Wasserzulauf) zur Verfügung. Betrieb 1 hatte im Vergleich zu den beiden anderen zusätzlich Auffangschalen unter den Nippeltränken installiert. Die Datenerhebung fand an jeweils zwei Besuchen pro Betrieb und Mastdurchgang statt, jeweils in den Zeitfenstern 28. - 32. und 35. - 39. Lebenstag. Pro Besuch wurden grundsätzlich die Staub- und Ammoniakwerte nach einem bestimmten Schema gemessen, das Wasser der verschiedener Tränkevarianten beprobt (Auffangschalen, Nippeltränken, Rundtränken) und 100 Enten, 50 auf der rundtränkenabgewandten Stallseite und 50 Enten auf der Rundtränkenseite, bonitiert. Parallel wurden Videoaufzeichnungen angefertigt und ethologisch ausgewertet (siehe HARNISCH (2012)). Die Bonitur, die im Rahmen dieser Studie ausgewertet wurde, umfasste die Parameter Paddelhyperkeratose, Paddelnekrose, Verschmutzung Augenumgebung, Augenentzündung und Ulcus corneae. Zusätzlich wurden in jedem Betrieb einmalig Probeschlachtungen für einen Versuchs- und einen Kontrollbesuch an 20 männlichen und 20 weiblichen Enten durchgeführt. Neben den Schlachtparametern wurden die Blutparameter Hämatokrit, Hämoglobin und IgY sowie die Bruchfestigkeit der Ober- und Unterschenkel ermittelt. Die Bayrische Landesanstalt für Landwirtschaft, Lehr-, Versuchs- und Fachzentrum für Geflügelhaltung Kitzingen (LfL) erhob zu jedem Mastdurchgang Produktionsparameter sowie die Lufttemperatur und -feuchte. Außerdem wurden Mistprofile erstellt. Bei der quantitativen Untersuchung der durchschnittlichen Gesamtkeimzahl und Enterobacteriaceae-Anzahl schnitt die Nippeltränke mit einer Gesamtkeimzahl von 10.950 ± 1.583 KbE/ ml (n = 226) und einer Enterobacteriaceae-Anzahl von 113 ± 30 KbE/ml (n = 187) am besten ab. Bei den Rundtränken wurden eine Gesamtkeimzahl von 3.955.864 ± 877.640 KbE/ml (n = 40) und eine Enterobacteriaceae-Anzahl von 14.763 ± 2.459 KbE/ml (n = 33) festgestellt. Das ungünstigste Ergebnis erzielten die Auffangschalen, weil sie häufig mit Futterresten, Federn und Staubpartikeln verschmutzt waren. Hier zeigten sich ein Gesamtkeimzahl von 5.174.412 ± 564.137 KbE/ml (n = 62) und Enterobacteriaceae-Anzahl von 47.301 ± 11.057 KbE/ml (n = 44). Ein signifikanter Einfluss des Zeitfensters auf die gefundene Keimzahl war nicht feststellbar. Hinsichtlich der qualitativen Untersuchung der Proben auf Salmonellen konnten aus einer Nippeltränkenprobe (n = 226), fünf Rundtränkenproben (n = 184) und neun Auffangschalenproben (n = 62) Salmonellen isoliert werden. Am häufigsten war das Serovar S. choleraesuis (zehnmal) zu finden, gefolgt von S. arizonae (dreimal) und S. kottbus (zweimal). Bei der Untersuchung von Rundtränken-Doppelproben (es wurden Proben um 10:00 Uhr während der Rundtränkenbefüllung mit frischem Wasser und regulär um 12:00 Uhr gezogen) fiel auf, dass die Wasserproben um 10:00 Uhr in der Regel niedrigere Gesamtkeimzahlen und Enterobacteriaceae-Gehalte aufwiesen als die um 12:00 Uhr gezogenen Rundtränkenproben. Die Mittelwerte (± SEM) der gemessenen Staubkonzentrationen (n= 5 Durchgänge (Betrieb 2) bzw. 8 Durchgänge (Betrieb 1 und 3)) bewegten sich betriebsunabhängig zwischen 0,53 ± 0,01 mg/m3 (Betrieb 2, Versuch, 1. Zeitfenster) und 1,08 ± 0,21 mg/m3 (Betrieb 1, Kontrolle, 1. Zeitfenster). In keinem der Betriebe konnte binnen eines Zeitfensters eine signifikante Beeinflussung der Staubwerte durch die Besuchsart festgestellt werden. Auch ein signifikanter Einfluss des Zeitfensters innerhalb der Besuchsart Kontrolle oder Versuch war nicht zu ermitteln. Die von PETERMANN (2006) genannten Staubwerte in Geflügelställen und die von ZUCKER et al. (2005) erhobenen Staubwerte in Entenställen wurden im Rahmen dieser Arbeit weder in den Kontroll- noch in den Versuchsbesuchen erreicht. Die gemessenen Ammoniakschadgaskonzentrationen (n= 5 Durchgänge (Betrieb 2) bzw. 8 Durchgänge (Betrieb 1 und 3)) betrugen betriebsunabhängig zwischen 4,33 ± 1,21 ppm (Betrieb 2, Kontrolle, 1. Zeitfenster) und 8,76 ± 0,24 ppm (Betrieb 2, Versuch, 2. Zeitfenster). Wie bei den Staubwerten konnte in keinem der Betriebe innerhalb eines Zeitfensters ein signifikanter Einfluss der Besuchsart auf die Ammoniakwerte festgestellt werden. Eine Beeinflussung der Ammoniakkonzentration der Stallluft durch den Zeitpunkt des Besuchs war ebenfalls nicht erkennbar. In den Vereinbarungen verschiedener Bundesländer über die Haltung von Pekingenten sowie in den Empfehlungen der DEUTSCHEN LANDWIRTSCHAFTS-GESELLSCHAFT E.V. heißt es, dass der Ammoniakgehalt im Tierbereich in der Stallluft unter 10 ppm liegen sollte und dauerhaft 20 ppm nicht überschreiten darf. In Bezug auf diese Forderungen gab es in keinem Betrieb Überschreitungen, weder während der Besuchsart Kontrolle noch während der Besuchsart Versuch. In den selbst durchgeführten Probeschlachtungen schnitten die Versuchstiere von Betrieb 1 und Betrieb 3 in Bezug auf ihr Lebendgewicht signifikant besser ab als die Kontrolltiere. Dieses Ergebnis wurde allerdings durch das LfL, welches die Schlachtergebnisse aller am Feldversuch beteiligten Daten auswertete, widerlegt. Das Lebendgewicht wurde durch die Tränkeform, insgesamt gesehen, nicht signifikant beeinflusst (siehe Dissertation HARNISCH (2012)). Der durchschnittliche Hämoglobingehalt der Enten dieser Untersuchungen schwankte zwischen 6,44 ± 0,09 mmol/l (Betrieb 2, Versuch) und 7,15 ± 0,07 mmol/l (Betrieb 1, Kontrolle), der Hämatokritgehalt zwischen 32,75 ± 0,40 % (Betrieb 3, Kontrolle) und 38,75 ± 0,48 % (Betrieb 2, Kontrolle). In Betrieb 1 und Betrieb 2 konnte sowohl in Bezug auf den Hämoglobin- als auch den Hämatokritgehalt ein signifikanter Unterschied, abgeleitet aus den geschätzten Randmitteln der Wechselwirkung Betrieb * Besuchsart des Regressionsmodells Hämoglobin und Hämatokrit, hinsichtlich der Kontroll- und Versuchsschlachtung festgestellt werden. In beiden Betrieben war das Ergebnis der Versuchsschlachtung signifikant geringer. Diese Werte decken sich mit den Ergebnissen von HATIPOGLU und BAGCI (1996). Von einer Hyperhydratation der Tiere kann daher nicht gesprochen werden. Die ermittelten IgY-Durchschnittswerte dieser Arbeit liegen zwischen 7,77 ± 0,74mg/ml (Betrieb 3, Kontrolle) und 12,63 ± 0,76mg/ml (Betrieb 1, Kontrolle). Hinsichtlich des IgY- Mittelwerts unterschieden sich weder die Kontrolltiere signifikant von den Versuchstieren. Es kann, wie auch in den Arbeiten von MANZ (2005) und HEUBACH (2007) festgestellt, kein nachteiliger Effekt der Rundtränken auf die IgY-Konzentrationen der Enten nachgewiesen werden. Die durchschnittliche Femurknochenlänge bewegte sich zwischen 67,48 ± 0,43 mm (Betrieb 2, Kontrolle) und 69,38 ± 0,46 mm (Betrieb 3, Versuch), die Breite zwischen 6,63 ± 0,06 mm (Betrieb 1, Versuch) und 6,99 ± 0,07 mm (Betrieb 2, Kontrolle) und die Höhe zwischen 7,98 ± 0,06 mm (Betrieb 2, Kontrolle) und 8,48 ± 0,06 mm (Betrieb 3, Versuch). Der durchschnittliche Tibiotarsus maß hingegen in der Länge zwischen 110,56 ± 0,55 mm (Betrieb 1, Kontrolle) und 112,30 ± 0,63 mm (Betrieb 1, Versuch), in der Breite zwischen 7,04 ± 0,06 mm (Betrieb 1, Kontrolle) und 7,62 ± 0,08 mm (Betrieb 2, Versuch) und in der Höhe zwischen 6,32 ± 0,05 mm (Betrieb 2, Kontrolle) und 6,73 ± 0,10 mm (Betrieb 3, Kontrolle). Bei den Größenparametern konnten in Bezug auf die Besuchsart und das Geschlecht der Tiere diverse signifikante Unterschiede festgestellt werden. Ein einheitliches Muster, aus dem allgemein gültige Schlüsse gezogen werden könnten, war nicht abzuleiten. Die gemittelte Bruchfestigkeit (± SEM) der Femura lag zwischen 230,07 ± 4,18 N (Betrieb 1, Versuch) und 235,66 ± 3,71 N (Betrieb 3, Versuch), die der Tibiotarsi zwischen 172,23 ± 4,64 N (Betrieb 1, Versuch) und 195,15 ± 4,64 N (Betrieb 2, Versuch). Die Dehnung der Femura bewegte sich zwischen 2,02 ± 0,04 mm (Betrieb 1, Kontrolle) und 2,18 ± 0,05 mm (Betrieb 3, Kontrolle), die der Tibiotarsi zwischen 3,80 ± 0,10 mm (Betrieb 2, Versuch) und 4,36 ± 0,12 mm (Betrieb 3, Versuch). In keinem der Betriebe zeigte sich hinsichtlich der Knochenbruchfestigkeit ein signifikanter Einfluss der Wechselwirkung Betrieb * Besuchsart oder Betrieb * Besuchsart * Geschlecht innerhalb des dazugehörigen Regressionsmodells in einer Konstellation, welche im Rahmen dieser Arbeit interessant wäre. Eine kontinuierliche Beeinflussung der Dehnung durch die Besuchsart oder das Geschlecht zeigte sich nicht, auch wenn in Betrieb 3 der Dehnungswert der Femura der Kontrolltiere signifikant über dem der Versuchstiere lag und in Betrieb 1 ein Einfluss des Geschlechts erkennbar war. Bei der Bonitur der Paddel konnte in jedem Betrieb – unabhängig von der Besuchsart – eine Hyperkeratose-Rate von über 80% festgestellt werden. Insgesamt war eine signifikant höhere oder niedrigere Hyperkeratose-Rate während der Versuchsbesuche nicht zu verzeichnen. Das Boniturmerkmal "Nekrose der Paddel" ist dagegen von der Besuchsart abhängig. Die Chance des Boniturmerkmals "keine Nekrose der Paddel" verringert sich in allen drei Betrieben während der Besuchsart Versuch. In Betrieb 1 und Betrieb 2 reduziert sich die Chance signifikant (Betrieb 1: p = 0,012; Betrieb 2: p < 0,001). Nach MAYNE (2005) sind die Gründe für das Auftreten von Fußballendermatitis komplex. Zu den zwei wahrscheinlichsten Ursachen zählen feuchte Einstreu und Biotinmangel. Daher ist bei der Installation der Rundtränke unbedingt darauf zu achten, dass ein guter Wasserablauf im Stall gewährleistet ist. Hier besteht weiterer Forschungsbedarf. Die Auswertung der Bonitur der Augen erfolgt zum Großteil in der Dissertation HARNISCH (2012). Bei insgesamt 8.300 Enten wurde eine betriebsunabhängige 3,9%ige Ulcus corneae-Rate festgestellt. Die Besuchsart hatte in Betrieb 2 einen signifikanten Einfluss (p = 0, 001), nicht aber in Betrieb 1 und Betrieb 3. Eventuell kann dies durch betriebsabhängige Faktoren erklärt werden und muss nicht zwingend mit der Wasserversorgung über die Rundtränke in Verbindung gebracht werden. Die deutschen Entenmäster bieten Pekingenten nur zögernd Wasservorrichtungen, wie sie in den EMPFEHLUNGEN IN BEZUG AUF PEKINGENTEN (ANAS PLATYRHYNCHOS) DES STÄNDIGEN AUSSCHUSSES DES EUROPÄISCHEN ÜBEREINKOMMENS ZUM SCHUTZ VON TIEREN IN LANDWIRTSCHAFTLICHER TIERHALTUNG (1999) gefordert werden, an. Sie nennen hierfür zum einen hygienische und zum anderen wirtschaftliche Gründe. Im Verlauf dieser Studie verbesserten sich die Hygiene- und Gesundheitsparameter oder blieben unverändert. Ausnahmen hierzu waren lediglich die signifikant höheren Keimzahlen in den Rundtränken im Vergleich zu den Nippeltränken und der Anstieg der Nekrose-Rate während der Besuchsart Versuch. Letztere kann wahrscheinlich durch ausreichende Entwässerung verbessert werden. Im Hinblick auf die Keimzahlen ist festzustellen, dass die gefundenen Gesamtkeimzahlen in Auffangschalen, welche in der Entenmast durchaus noch vorhanden sind, signifikant höher waren als in Rundtränken. Das pauschale Argument, dass der Einsatz von Rundtränken Tierhygiene und Tiergesundheit negativ beeinflusst, kann aus Sicht dieser Studie nicht bestätigt werden. Die Rundtränke AquaDuc T®, die den Enten Komfortverhalten ermöglicht, erfüllt aus Sicht der vorliegenden Ergebnisse die Voraussetzungen einer tiergerechten Wasserversorgung in der Praxis, und bietet die Möglichkeit die Empfehlungen des Ständigen Ausschusses des Europäischen Übereinkommens in Bezug auf Pekingenten hinsichtlich der Wasserversorgung umzusetzen.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurde in zwei Mastdurchgängen ein Teich als Schwimmmöglichkeit im Vergleich mit offenen Tränken in Hinblick auf eine artgemäße Entenhaltung unter Berücksichtigung hygienischer Bedingungen untersucht. Dabei wurde ein besonderes Augenmerk auf ethologische und gesundheitliche Parameter gelegt. In den beiden durchgeführten Mastdurchgängen wurden zwei Gruppen (1. Durchgang: n = 124, 2. Durchgang: n = 129 pro Gruppe) vergleichend gegenübergestellt. Die Gruppen wurden in zwei Abteilen mit sowohl einem kleinen Stall (20 m2) als auch Zugang zu einem Außenbereich mit Grasfläche (zusammen 300 m2) gehalten. Die Mastdauer betrug beim 1. Durchgang 47 und beim 2. Durchgang 50 Tage. Beide Durchgänge besaßen den gleichen Aufbau. Die beiden Gruppen wurden als Kontrollgruppe und Versuchsgruppe bezeichnet, wobei der Kontrollgruppe im Stall Nippeltränken und im Außenbereich Rundtränken sowie der Versuchsgruppe zusätzlich noch ein Teich zur Verfügung stand. Es wurden Verhaltensbeobachtungen in Form von Direktbeobachtung durchgeführt, die jeden 2. Tag stattfanden, sowie Videobeobachtungen, die einmal pro Woche dreimal täglich stattfanden. Des Weiteren erfolgte einmal pro Woche bei 20 willkürlich gewählten Tieren pro Gruppe eine Blutabnahme, um Hämatokrit, Hämoglobin- und IgY-Gehalt zu bestimmen. Außerdem wurde ebenfalls wöchentlich während der Blutabnahme das Gefieder bezüglich Verschmutzung und Qualität bonitiert sowie die Nasenlöcher auf Verstopfungen und Augen auf Veränderungen untersucht. Bei der letzten Blutentnahme vor der Schlachtung wurde zusätzlich die Gefiederqualität begutachtet. Schließlich wurden noch von den Nippeltränken, den Rundtränken, direkt nach sowie zwei und vier Stunden nach der Reinigung, und dem Teich, je vor und nach der Reinigung, einmal wöchentlich 20 ml-Wasserproben gezogen. Von diesen wurde die Gesamtkeimzahl und der Gehalt an Enterobacteriaceae bestimmt. Außerdem wurden die Proben noch im Speziellen auf Salmonellen untersucht. Am Teich konnte vermehrt arttypisches Badeverhalten und wasserassoziiertes Verhalten wie die arttypische Futteraufnahme in Form von Seihen und Gründeln sowie Putzen mit Tränkewasser beobachtet werden. Auch wurde die Gefiederpflege ohne Wasser verstärkt angeregt, was zu einem deutlich saubereren Gefieder und besserer Gefiederqualität führte. Vor allem Bauch- und Brustgefieder waren bei der Versuchsgruppe weniger verschmutzt als bei der Kontrollgruppe. Des Weiteren führte die Nutzung des Teiches zu einer 6 Zusammenfassung 179 verminderten Anzahl an Tieren mit verstopften Nasenlöchern und geröteten bzw. verschmutzten Augen. Bezüglich der Gesamtkeimzahl sowie dem Gehalt an Enterobacteriaceae kann keine einheitliche Aussage gemacht werden, da zum Teil die Keimzahlen am Teich nach 48 Stunden Benutzung höher lagen als an den Rundtränken nach vier Stunden Benutzung, zum Teil war aber auch das Gegenteil der Fall. Meist waren diese beiden Werte höher als an den Nippeltränken. Der Wasserverbrauch am Teich lag bereits ohne die Wassermenge, die zur Reinigung benötigt wurde, bedeutend höher als an Rundtränke und Nippeltränke. Trotz unterschiedlichem Wasserverbrauch ergaben sich nur selten signifikante Unterschiede zwischen den Gruppen bezüglich Hämoglobingehalt und Hämatokrit. Auch beim Nachweis des Plasmagehalts an IgY konnte man zwischen den Gruppen keine signifikanten Unterschiede feststellen. Das Bereitstellen eines Teiches bringt vor allem für das Wohlbefinden und die Gesundheit der Tiere durchaus Vorteile. Ein Einsatz in der Praxis ist allerdings aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen aufgrund des hohen Wasserbedarfs und Arbeitsaufwands vermutlich nicht durchsetzbar. Die Freilandhaltung und insbesondere die Weidehaltung bietet ebenfalls eine Möglichkeit zur intensiven Beschäftigung und kann für Kleinstbetriebe oder Hobbyhalter aus ethologischer Sicht empfohlen werden.
