Buckle up, mamas, because this week's episode of Between Us Moms is a wild ride! Hallie confesses that potty training 2-year-old Dylan is officially her least favorite parenting phase EVER, and to top it off, her postpartum period has made an unwelcome and intense return. Meanwhile, Katie sought answers from Google AI about her second baby Emma's challenging behavior, and the response was… unsettling. Get ready for a hilarious (and slightly gross) ‘OMG of the Week' as Hallie shares the headline about Frida's breast milk-flavored ice cream. And finally, Katie sparks a debate: would YOU lie to your kids about their food? The mama besties dive into the viral video of a mom telling her kiddo that the fish on their plate was ‘beach chicken.' Register for MAGNETIC: FIRST EVER women-only event in Phoenix, AZ Nov. 2nd and 3rd 2024. www.AmandaHanson.com/MAGNETIC Join me on my journey through menopause as I share my unique experience as a woman. This isn't about negating anyone else's experience; I am offering my perspective with the hope that it might resonate with some of you. Let's explore menopause from multiple lenses. As a woman who honors the natural world and a psychologist who views human experiences through a distinct lens, I bring a dual perspective to this conversation, from silent bystander to active participant, sharing insights on the female body, life's cycles, and the impact of societal structures. We live in a patriarchal system that often shames natural aging processes like menopause. If we shift our perspective to a matriarchal viewpoint, emphasizing feminine consciousness and holistic well-being we can approach menopause with curiosity and celebration. This has allowed me to navigate menopause with grace, not seeing it as something broken or wrong. I'm sharing my journey with alternative healing and natural childbirth and how our narratives influence our experiences. These stories have shaped my approach to menopause, fostering a sense of awe and wonder rather than fear and confusion. There is an interconnectedness of our physical and mental health, the importance of what we put into and onto our bodies, and how societal expectations influence our perception of menopause. By embracing a narrative of love, honor, and curiosity, we can redefine this stage of life. Whether you're experiencing menopause, approaching it, or simply curious about a different perspective, I invite you to listen with an open heart. This is for anyone ready to explore a new narrative and find beauty in the natural cycles of a woman's life. Let's celebrate our bodies and the profound journeys they take us on. If you're feeling weighed down by the shame and inconvenience of your natural cycles, like periods, childbirth, and menopause, then you are not alone! The societal narratives around these life phases have been deeply entrenched in patriarchal beliefs, leading to feelings of embarrassment, inconvenience, and fear. Let's explore the phases of womanhood from the patriarchal and matriarchal lens. Which one would bring us more celebration and joy? Women have been conditioned to view their bodies and experiences through a lens of shame and limitation. Still, there is a different way to approach these cycles, one that honors and celebrates the feminine consciousness. Why have the cycles of our bodies been looked at as inconveniences? After all, without the woman's body and natural cycles, there would be no life on this planet. Everything you thought you knew about your body and its cycles was just a fraction of the truth. A truth that has kept you feeling shameful and embarrassed about your beautiful body that creates life: we need to bring feminine consciousness to the surface to begin leading to a life of beauty, power, and profound wisdom. Join me as I share the real stories of periods, childbirth, and menopause through a matriarchal lens. Come with an open mind and be ready for a paradigm shift that will challenge societal norms and unlock the hidden potential within you. This is your invitation to a more beautiful way of living and being. The changing of the lens starts here, and the possibilities are endless. Are you curious to explore the untold narrative of womanhood? The path to feminine consciousness awaits. The Muse Community: The Muses. “Why didn't I know all this already?” - Pretty much everyone who reads Toni Weschler's book The stigma around women's reproductive systems isn't just an inconvenience, it removes a critical way women get insight into their bodies and health overall: period power. The menstrual cycle tells us a whole lot more than if we're pregnant or not, or menopausal or not, says author Toni Weschler. Her seminal (oh, the irony of that adjective!) work, Taking Charge of Your Fertility, is all about understanding and taking charge of your reproductive health and being “cycle savvy.” In this episode, Dr. Lora Shahine and Toni Weschler talk about the origin of this amazing work. (Hint: it has to do with women being really angry.) And despite the title, it's not all about helping people who are hoping to become pregnant. It's about, says the author, “teaching women on a day-to-day basis what is going on with their body on that day” and taking advantage of all the insights into your health charting your cycle can give you. In this episode you'll hear: [00:00] Intro [02:26] What is ‘Taking Charge of Your Fertility' and why Toni ‘hates' the title [04:44] Toni's inspiration to write the book [09:50] The difference between the rhythm method and fertility awareness [11:22] The 3 signs of fertility explained [14:56] What the menstrual cycle can teach you about your health [18:51] Being a pioneer: How did Toni research for her book in 1990s? [26:31] The difficult process of pitching the book – lesson in rejection from Toni [36:30] The challenges of writing the book – Toni fought for her vision Fertility Story: [41:21] Toni's ‘Birth Announcement' [42:23] The responsibility of ‘Taking Charge of Your Fertility' and what inspires Toni [44:42] Instagram Questions: Nikki: Is there another edition? Yes! 30th anniversary edition out in 2025 Alexa: What fertility or period apps does Toni recommend? Claudia: How can teens learn about their cycles? Goodbye period shame and secrecy, farewell clunky sanitary products. Menstruation is out and proud in 2021, thanks to women in their 20s and 30s who will no longer hide this most basic of female bodily functions. The Sydney Morning Herald senior writer Jacqueline Maley and Sydney University political economist Elizabeth Hill join Good Weekend editor Katrina Strickland on Good Weekend Talks to discuss how and why the period got politicised, the pros and cons of menstrual leave, period poverty in the third world, and the broader global revolution in attitudes towards reproductive health. 140 MILLION. That's how many school days per year are missed by South African girls because they don't have access to menstrual products. And what's even more shocking is that it would only cost R130/ £6.50 PER YEAR to change that for a girl. Siv is not the person you'd expect to be behind a major national menstrual product drive (or be a nationals winning pole-dancer and drag queen). He's ferociously fighting the injustice that girls and women experience daily across South Africa. And he doesn't feel he's the one who needs the credit. There's the word men in menstruation, and as Siv rightly points out, without menstruation, humanity wouldn't exist. He also believes that if men bled once a month, period products would be free (and I absolutely agree). This is a very real conversation. Siv doesn't hold back and I'm so glad he doesn't… but it might be triggering to listen to. This episode is the second in a three-episode series on birth control. In Season 1, experts shared interesting views on how one should view birth control to support their health and lifestyle needs, so I wanted to dig further. The series covers an MD view as well as an innovation in birth control. In this first episode of the series, we hear from Nicole Jardim.Nicole Jardim is a Certified Women’s Health Coach, writer, speaker, mentor, and the creator of Fix Your Period, a series of programs that empower women to reclaim their hormone health using a method that combines evidence-based information with simplicity and sass. Her work has impacted the lives of tens of thousands of women around the world in effectively addressing a wide variety of period problems, including PMS, irregular periods, PCOS, painful & heavy periods, missing periods and many more.Rather than treating problems or symptoms, Nicole treats women by addressing the root cause of what’s really going on in their bodies and minds. She passionately believes that the fundamentals to healing any hormonal imbalance lie in an approach that addresses the unique physiology of every woman. This is essential to reclaiming and maintaining optimal health and vitality at any age.Nicole is the author of Fix Your Period: 6 Weeks to Banish Bloating, Conquer Cramps, Manage Moodiness, and Ignite Lasting Hormone Balance, and the co-author of The Happy Balance, a recipe book filled with over 80 hormone balancing recipes. Finally, she’s the co-host of The Period Party, a top-rated podcast on iTunes—be sure to tune into that if you want to learn more about how to fix your period—and has been called on as a women’s health expert for sites such as The Guardian, Well+Good, mindbodygreen and Healthline. In this episode, Nicole Jardim responds with her perspectives on birth control and statements made during my interview with Dr Sophia Yen. Lunchtime chat about something we don't often speak enough about… periods. A natural cycle that almost half the population experience once a month. Which is significantly linked with physical and mental health and well-being. I think this short chat is relevant to everyone, with or without a period.-I start by talking about the female athlete triad, what it is, my experiences, and what can support healing & recovery.-Getting my period back after five years!! the day after Scotland becoming the first nation to PASS the bill to provide period products free for everyone. -Finish by talking about period dignity & period poverty- how impactful dehumanizing not having access to period products can be. I have had many cruicual open and honest conversations with Vilius about periods, how I have felt over the years, the worry and angst when I lost my period the official name being hypothalamic amenorrhea and the joy I experienced when it came back- a huge lesson in trusting our bodies and knowing they will balance their selves out when they feel relaxed and at ease. As women, our bodies are nothing short of miraculous and our female system is truly amazing.Sadly, we've been taught both consciously and subconsciously to mistrust our bodies, to even deprive our bodies, and in some cases to shut it off completely from its natural and optimum state. From the billion-dollar fad diet industry to a lack of education on contraceptives, we are sold these quick and easy solutions that simply suppress and ignore the pure magic of our female bodies.I say, no more! In today's episode, I share with you the in's and out's of my brand new program, Whole & Healthy Woman which gives you the tools for life so that you can make the best possible decisions for your own body and health. It's not a quick fix, but a long term solution that will support you through every reproductive phase of your life as an ever-evolving and changing wonderful woman. It's time for you to learn to support and celebrate your body and invest in your overall holistic health so that you can become the Whole & Healthy Woman that you really deserve to be.Website: https://www.chloecollins.com.auInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chloecollinsnutritionFB Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/reclaimyourcycleWhole & Healthy Woman: https://www.chloecollins.com.au/whwSupport the show (http://www.chloecollins.com.au/podcast)
In this episode, I bust myths and misconceptions and discuss some truths about fertility. I'll be addressing topics including hormonal contraception, age and fertility, knowing when or if you are fertile, preconception considerations, and why you should do less; along with a healthy reminder that you are not alone on your health/fertility journey. As women we spend our whole lives trying not to get pregnant, however, no-one ever tells us or prepares us for the fact that it may be hard, it may take more time than we believe and it could even result in heartbreak. Does anyone remember Dolly Dr? Can I get pregnant if I was in the spa with a boy? Those questions were a direct result of an uninformed generation of women. Let's change that for our future generations of little women.Support the show (http://www.chloecollins.com.au/podcast)

She was fortunate to have parents who didn't marry her off in the 8th grade as happened to some of her friends. She was able to get a university education and a good job. She explained that many girls in Kenya drop out of school because they don't have the sanitary supplies they need when they have their period. Many families have to choose between food and maxi-pads. Naturally they choose food. There is little knowledge and tremendous shame around the menstrual cycle. Girls have to stay home and are too embarrassed to say why they can't go to school. In many cases, girls don't know what is happening to their bodies when they have their first period. Anita talks about what that is like and relates the sad story of a girl who committed suicide the day she began menstruating. Anita also relates the story of the father of 3 teenage girls who, because of the cultural shame around menstruation, had to be educated on the need for sanitary supplies. After his conversation with Anita, he said that in all the years of viewing the family list of items for him to buy at the store, he had never seen sanitary supplies. He honestly had no idea and wondered what his wife and daughters had done for all those years. After some years of a successful career in the city, Anita felt the desire to return to her hometown and give back. She tells about her work with 100 Humanitarians International and Days for Girls.
Kayla-Leah RichKayla-Leah Rich is a speaker, coach and author. Today she talks about her role as a Days for Girls Regional Director and member of the Development Team. She shares her experiences traveling around the world with Days for Girls. She witnessed a lifestyle very different from what we are accustomed to in the United States and she saw a critical need that moved her to get involved. Here in the United States we take feminine hygiene supplies for granted, but in other countries it makes the difference between being able to stay in school or not. There are many taboos around female biology that result in deprivation and hardship for women. She talks about those and how education is breaking down barriers. She presented a Ted Talk titled "The Cost of Menstral Shame." Watch it here. Let’s get serious about our periods. We want everyone to be able to talk openly about what goes on in their bodies, so this episode was really important to us. We talk about when our periods started, what they are like and what products we use. Brittany goes into detail about her positive experience with menstrual cups (links below) and we leave nothing out when talking about our PMS tendencies and how we feel during our periods - or lack there of for Kelly. She goes into a little more detail about her struggles with PCOS, some options that are being explored and how it affects her period when it does come. We acknowledged the fact that we feel our school systems are quite vague when it comes to educating youth about period health. We aren’t always made aware of what options we have as women or what can go wrong and we are very under educated on what any other sex/gender goes through as kids. If you identify as a male, don’t write this episode off! We give lots of insight into what we go through as women that might just give you some tools on how to understand or help out your female identifying friends.Link to MissMikaylaG’s IUD Experience Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlvimFSFmygLinks to Diva Cup :US: https://amzn.to/37II7hBCAD: https://amzn.to/2ZV8ZHHLink to Honey Pot Menstrual Cup:US: https://amzn.to/3hGoEma*amazon links are affiliatedHave a story, want to be featured in one of our episodes, or just want to say Hi? I get a lot of questions about the menstrual cycle. This is such an interesting topic to me because I used to despise my cycle. I used to hate being a women because I bled every month. It wasn't until I acknowledged the power that lies in our menstrual cycle, that I finally appreciated my body, my being, and actually experienced less pain and discomfort. Realizing the profound, deep connection our menstrual cycles have to the moon, is another aspect that allowed me to see the beauty of this time. It's more than just bleeding and ovulating. Listen to today's episode to find out the depth to menstrual cycles. Catch ya inside! IG: gabbyssoulfoodd

This week on Matcha Mornings, Amanda is reading a chapter from Alisa Vitti's new book, "In the Flo". This section of the book is called "Meet Your Hormones", and you will do just that. We will go through the different hormones that impact our monthly cycle, and then dive into the different systems in our body that are impacted by a hormonal imbalance (hint: it's not just your endocrine system). This section also talks about how to bring these systems into harmony and balance, and how, as women, we can be more productive and healthy when we come into alignment with the natural rhythms and flows of our cycles. Enjoy! I am excited to be partnered with Muse! Muse is a wearable device in the form of a headband that senses the electrical rhythms of the brain (EEG). The headband is coupled with a smartphone app that monitors the user's brain electrical activity and gives immediate feedback so that a “calm” or meditative pattern can be achieved. Julianna also shares how she has incorporated self-care and cycle syncing into her work and personal life. Well, if I told you that a 30 minute podcast episode about menstruation and the moon we would talk about Asian elephants, Alice in Wonderland and Diet Coke, would you believe me? Ha! Well that is exactly what we did. This truly is one of my FAVOURITE wellness topics, mostly because no one has ever told us the truth about menstruation. We are not told about its link to our health, our emotions, our crazy Goddess capabilities. We are not told what is really going on and how to harness this awesome magically, biological tool. And you don't hear how and why this is linked to the moons cycle and what that means. This entire episode came about when a friends asked me about her daughter's cycle and what some changes meant. They mean A LOT, so let's dive in as in this episode we cover: why our cycles match the moon's and it's scientific significance the three types of moon cycle goddess you might be how to determine which one you are what each of the three types tell you about your mental, emotional and physical health as well as the season in your life you may occupy what is going on when you are transitioning from one moon type to another Then I chat about iron and calcium as this is also something that comes up often when talking about women' health. I go into . . . why we are iron deficient the role that calcium plays in this deficiency why we are adding WAY to much calcium to our diet what most multivitamins on the market are tricking you and, what is the real culprit in the whole calcium iron problem. Then I spend a bit of time explaining the oat coconut milk that I make at home (cost a grand total of $0.58 for a 2L/half gallon) and my super slick 2-ingredient iron hack that I use it for. Please feel free to share this episode with any menstruating Goddesses in your life. I wish this episode could be mandatory listening for every crazy awesome woman out there, every 12-year-old girl, every person that knows and loves women. I tell you, once I started to really understand the full wellness picture of what menstruation mean, it was a total game-changer in how I looked at my awesome, amazing self - just like you should, too ;) If you have questions or comments on this episode, please visit me on Instagram at @marla.barr At the top of this episode, I invited you to my new super cool VIP Wellness Program. Ramadan Mubarak everyone, I had the pleasure of speaking with Ustadha Aatifa Shareef from Qalam Insitute, Ustadha Aatifa just finished her Masters in clinical psychology from the University of Dallas as well as an Alimiyah student at the Qalam Seminary. Born and raised in Columbus, OH, she graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Religious Studies. She is working to combine her two fields of study by understanding psychology in an Islamic context and providing counseling for the Muslim community in America. She currently works as Director of Admissions and Student Affairs at the Qalam Seminary as well as an instructor and Executive Assistant for the Qalam Institute. You may reach her at aatifa@qalaminstitute.org. It was so great to speak with Ustadha Aatifa, she shared some great tips and advice for Muslims who can’t face during Ramadan or miss some fasts. The framework for this episode was based on the hadith of Aisha Radi-Allahu anha Narrated Al-Qasim`Aisha said, "We set out with the sole intention of performing Hajj and when we reached Sarif, (a place six miles from Mecca) I got my menses. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to me while I was weeping. He said 'What is the matter with you? Have you got your menses?' I replied, 'Yes.' He said, 'This is a thing which Allah has ordained for the daughters of Adam. So do what all the pilgrims do with the exception of the Tawaf (Circumambulation) round the Ka`ba." `Aisha added, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sacrificed cows on behalf of his wives." On this episode of the Healthy Wealthy and Smart Podcast, Molly Hayward joins me to discuss passion as the driver for entrepreneurial success. Molly Hayward is the visionary female founder of Cora, a San Francisco startup and disruptive consumer brand pioneering products that fit women’s lifestyles, prioritize their wellness, and empower women globally. Molly was the first entrepreneur in the now-trendy menstrual management space to establish a modern, healthy, socially conscious brand, presenting the issues of healthier products and women’s global social justice to the mainstream female consumer. In this episode, we discuss: -The story behind Cora: from idea to successful subscription business -How passion and perseverance disrupted the feminine product industry -The importance of removing unessential daily tasks as your business grows -How to position a product to enhance quality of life and foster a worldwide community -And so much more! Molly sought to create a mission driven company with Cora and has successfully helped women in developing countries continue their education during their monthly menstruation. Molly stresses, “Girls education and female empowerment is completely essential to economic development and poverty alleviation.” Most entrepreneurial opportunities begin when you yourself find a need not being served in the marketplace as Molly reminds, “It does start from a problem that you yourself experience.” From Molly’s experience, she shares that, “It’s critical to get started because it’s such a learn-as-you-go process.” Entrepreneurs tend to want to do it all and are eager as momentum starts to grow. In light of this, Molly advises, “Try to narrow your focus early on and do fewer things better rather than try to have your hands on every potential opportunity.” Passion for your vision will help you as an entrepreneur navigate the many twists and turns on the road to success. Molly recommends, “Do what you love and trust that things are going to continue to move in the right direction.” For more information on Molly: Molly Hayward is the visionary female founder of Cora, a San Francisco startup and disruptive consumer brand pioneering products that fit women’s lifestyles, prioritize their wellness, and empower women globally. Old Testament Law is difficult to understand, especially on the topic of blood. Blood belongs to God alone, and menstruation makes women unclean half the month. Miriam, Moses's older sister, illustrates the disappointment and disillusionment people with periods may feel when reading these verses. But in his treatment of the Bleeding Woman and of the Last Supper, Jesus takes away the shame of menstruation. In place of shame, Jesus shares with all people his divinity.
