William Shatner's TekWar is a so-so cyberpunk cop story that somehow grew into novels, comics, trading cards, syndicated TV movies, a USA Network and Sci Fi Channel series, and a PC video game that many people still call one of the worst ever made. The real story is not the plot, it's the momentum. We follow the money, the branding, and the era's obsession with recognizable names to figure out how this franchise kept getting revived even as it struggled to become genuinely good.

Discover Your Talent–Do What You Love

"It was really sort of a Blitzkrieg assault approach where I wrote many, many scripts and emailed everybody I knew, and entered scripts into screenwriting competitions. "While I was living in New York I paid for a pitch fest in L.A. I flew out there to this event where you had five minutes to pitch different companies, like Lionsgate Motion Pictures. It was like speed dating for screenwriters. Eventually, I got one of my scripts into the hands of The Asylum and that eventually became 'Born Bad,' which was a made-for Lifetime TV movie. When they told me they liked that script and they wanted me, well, that was amazing!" Jared Cohn is a film/TV director, writer, and producer based in Los Angeles, CA. He has directed over 50 films that have been produced and distributed by major studios and distributed by major studios and production companies such as Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, Syfy, Lifetime, and many more. His book, 50 Movies Made: Lessons Learned on a Filmmaker's Journey, chronicles his life through the Hollywood trenches and how he achieved his lifelong dream on the other side. We start with the big thesis: the Sci-Fi Channel is an early masterclass in niche marketing, built on the belief that sci-fi fans are loyal and underserved. From there we dig into the credibility play of bringing in Gene Roddenberry and Isaac Asimov, and how the network's direction shifts once the people with real “skin in the game” are gone. We also revisit the weirdest, most charming early experiments like Faster-Than-Light Newsfeed, the idea that the network itself has a story, and the scrappy reality of filling a schedule with syndicated classics before the bigger deals arrive.

Happy! is a black comedy action series based on Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson's four-issue graphic novel, with Brian Taylor directing most of its early run. It premiered on Syfy in December 2017 to strong reviews (81% on Rotten Tomatoes, 65 on Metacritic) and paired Christopher Meloni's self-destructive hitman Nick Sax with Patton Oswalt's relentlessly optimistic imaginary unicorn. Season 1 works because it's tight—an ultra-violent Christmas redemption story grounded in trauma, fatherhood, and the intrusion of hope. Renewed quickly, Season 2 expanded into bigger mythology and louder chaos, but lost the precision that made the premise hit. The result is a show built like a miniseries stretched into escalation. Cancelled in June 2019 just after Season 2 aired, Happy! ends not with resolution, but with a concept that outgrew its own design.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

We're Back! And with that we start a new mini series about The Sci-Fi Channel (SyFy, if ya nasty) and its wild diaspora. Something strange happened on old-school satellite TV: a channel appeared out of nowhere, looping wormholes and bright “screensaver” tunnels with no station ID, no ads, and no explanation. Then it teased an invasion and started a countdown clock. That mystery wasn't pirate radio, it was the marketing fuse that lit the Sci-Fi Channel's 1992 launch, and we can still feel the ripple effects today.

Scotty Roberts and John Ward join us to talk about ancient civilizations, Egypt, and their upcoming Paradigm Symposium. It goes way further than that, as we get into symbolism, occultism, Aleister Crowley, and much more. Dr. John Ward is an archaeologist and anthropologist residing in Luxor, Egypt. Over the years, Dr. Ward has conducted numerous investigations of ancient Egyptian architecture and symbolism, while also carrying out research into the many mysteries surrounding medieval Templarism. In 2006, Ward was recruited by the Knights Templar of Britannia, which is a modern Templar order affiliated with and has been acknowledged by the Vatican. With the help of his partner, Dr. Maria Nilsson, John has managed to track the use of particular symbols through the various dynasties and the geography of ancient Egypt leading all the way into the present, with similar threads even extending into parts of Western Europe. The symbols that John and Maria have come to recognize play a very important and integral role, based from their studies, regarding ancient Egyptian life. It is through these symbols that they are driven with the passion to continue their work, which has enabled them not only to develop a greater understanding of the various cultures they study, but also to utilize and acknowledge the importance and sanctity of the symbols. These are aspects which, John argues, still remain largely unknown to mainstream academia.Scott Alan Roberts is a man of diverse interests and a fairly eclectic background. He is Founder and Publisher of INTREPID Magazine, a monthly journal focusing on Politics, Science, Culture, Conspiracy Theories and Unexplained Phenomena. He is the Founder of the Paradigm Symposium. He is an accomplished writer, public speaker, illustrator, historian, designer, theologian and stand up philosopher. Of Scot/Welsh descent, he was raised in an agnostic Christian home, with a communistic Jewish grandfather and a Ukrainian Orthodox stepfather and was mentored by an old stonemason throughout his early teen years. He attended Bible College and entered his Masters of Divinity program in theological seminary in a very conservative, fundamentalist, evangelical Christian academic setting. He joined the United States Marine Corp and eventually entered the ministry as a youth pastor. All of this was to prep him for the next thirty years, which he spent in advertising and publishing. Scotty's first pieces of published artwork appeared on a plethora of dust jacket and cover designs for a small, Minneapolis‐based theological book publisher in the late 1970s and early 1980s.Scotty is the author and illustrator of The Rollicking Adventures of Tam O'Hare (2007), an illustrated novel originally intended for 8‐14‐year‐old readers, but which found its greater readership with the college‐aged audience and older. He has also authored for New Page Books, The Rise and Fall of the Nephilm (2012) and The Secret History of the Reptilians (2013).Scotty has written articles for TAPS ParaMagazine (the official publication of SyFy's Ghost Hunters) and went on to become their Editor‐In‐Chief during 2009 and 2010.He is a talented public speaker, and has been a featured lecturer with TAPS and Beyond Reality Events, as well as various other paranormal events between 2007 and 2012.He is father to five children, and lives with his wife and family in rural Wisconsin. Being a native Minnesotan, Scotty considers himself a ‘stranger in a strange land' filled with Green Bay Packers fans. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This week, your favorite former puppeteers blast off into the strange, slimy, and spectacular universe of Farscape—the cult sci-fi show that boldly asked the question: what if space opera had more puppets… and weirder ones?Created by Rockne S. O'Bannon and brought gloriously to life by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, Farscape filled its galaxy with unforgettable alien characters—like the towering warrior "definitely-not-a-Klingon" Ka D'Argo and the delightfully grumpy Dominar puppet Rygel XVI.We dive into how the show fused ambitious science fiction storytelling with jaw-dropping creature work, why Rygel might be the most expensive fart joke in television history, and what it's like to act opposite a co-star who's operated by five puppeteers and a small miracle. Along the way, we celebrate the show's fearless weirdness and the way it pushed puppetry far beyond children's television and into the outer limits of adult sci-fi.It's tentacles, tyrants, and top-tier animatronics—a reminder that sometimes the most alien thing in the galaxy… is sculpted foam latex.Send a textJoin the discussion on our discord! https://discord.gg/JDtWJrhPF6Follow us on twitter @PMoNPodcast and on Instagram and Threads @puppetmastersofnoneFind out more about the puppet masters on our website: https://puppetmastersofnone.wixsite.com/puppetmastersofnoneOriginal Music Composed by Taetro. @Taetro https://www.taetro.com/

What happens when you mix a show-biz professional with a passion for the paranormal and the macabre? You get the brilliant, twisted mind of Eric Miller. This week on The Twilight Tonic, DeeDee sits down with the screenwriter behind The Shadow Men, Mask Maker, and the "mirth and mayhem" of the SyFy hit Ice Spiders. We explore Eric's journey through the entertainment industry, his work on legendary scripts, and the "terrifying" reality of being an indie producer. Whether he's writing sappy poems or creature features that catch the attention of The Late Show, Eric brings a wealth of insider knowledge that most fans never get to hear. Tune in for a look at the dark side of storytelling and the monsters—real and imagined—that keep us watching.
