Today on Typical Skeptic Podcast, I'm honored to welcome Eve Lorgen – counselor, hypnotherapist, anomalous trauma researcher and author of The Love Bite: Alien Interference in Human Love Relationships and The Dark Side of Cupid.Eve has been on the front lines of this work since the early 1990s, counseling alien abductees, MILABs, mind control survivors, DID/RA survivors, and targets of spiritual warfare and demonic/psychic attacks. She coined the term “alien love bite” to describe orchestrated love relationships engineered by non-human intelligences and has helped countless experiencers recognize and heal from these patterns and from Complex Trauma/CPTSD that often begins in childhood.Today we're going to get into what anomalous trauma really is, how alien and paranormal forces can manipulate love and bonding, how this overlaps with cult and narcissistic abuse, and most importantly, what real recovery and spiritual sovereignty look like.3. Bio (for description / pin comment)About Eve LorgenEve Lorgen is a dedicated counseling and hypnotherapy professional, author, and anomalous trauma researcher. She began her pioneering work with alien abductees, MILABs and mind control victims while earning her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology in 1992. She also holds a BS in Biochemistry and worked in the biotechnology industry for 7 years. In 1994, Eve started one of the early support groups for experiencers of anomalous trauma in San Diego County, CA, and she continues to consult with clients worldwide from her home in Western North Carolina. She was a close associate of Barbara Bartholic and is committed to continuing and expanding the work of Dr. Karla Turner.Eve LorgenEve is the author of:The Love Bite: Alien Interference in Human Love RelationshipsThe Dark Side of Cupid (Keyhole Publishing, 2012; updated 2nd edition now available)Her research focuses on “anomalous trauma” – events outside the normal range of human experience – including alien abductions, near-death experiences, shamanic initiations, MILABs, mind control, DID/RA, spiritual warfare, demonic and psychic attacks, cult involvement, and narcissistic abuse. A major theme of her work is the “alien love bite” and paranormal orchestration of love relationships, where non-human intelligences manipulate bonding, sexuality, and life paths for their own purposes.Eve LorgenEve has written extensively for magazines and journals such as Nexus, MUFON Journal, X-Times, JAR, and many independent zines and websites. After taking a week to recap the magic and madness of Hulaween 2025, Karl Engelmann returns to the show for part two — and we pick up right where we left off. Karl dives into life at his restaurant and bar, Epic Catering/Mel's Place, including hosting the Cuddle Clouds album-release party on November 2nd.From there, the duo gets into the world of independent artists — releasing music across formats, the wild talent of mastering engineers (Karl insists they're “aliens”), and how his current project Cuddle Clouds ties into the broader web of creative work he's building. He walks us through the roots of the old-time bluegrass movement, what it means to help keep the tradition alive, and how playing upright bass has shaped him both creatively and professionally. They go everywhere: the impact of Hurricane Helene… leaf season in Western North Carolina... Arizona THC gummies… telepathy… and even the eternal question — did Pompeii have a house band? The Brothers Gillespie officially began in 2018 with their eponymous debut EP. Brothers Aaron, Davis, and Clay began by playing primarily in the bars in their hometown of Waynesville, NC, where they could showcase the songs they had written and scratch their itch to perform. In 2019, the band decided to move operations to Johnson City, TN with the promise that they would give their musical aspirations a year, and if there was more partying than progress, they would give it up and move on. That year, they released their first album, Love & Death. In the time since, the band moved back to NC and has steadily gained momentum playing venues, festivals, and radio stations all across the southeast, as well as continually releasing music, including their second album, American Pastoral, in 2022. The current lineup of The Brothers Gillespie consists of Davis Gillespie (vocals, guitar), Aaron Gillespie (guitar), Clay Gillespie (drums), Chance Kuehn (guitar), and J.R. Williams (bass). They are a homegrown act, birthed in the mountains of Western North Carolina, and consisting of five gritty, soulful individuals that offer a sound steeped in Rock ‘n' Roll and Americana. In 2025, they look to build on their talent and continue expanding their reach and catalogue. An experienced investment broker would advise you to buy Brothers Gillespie stock NOW. And if you don't get the chance to see them when they come to your town, as they love to say at the end of every show, they'll see you down the road.

Inspired by the book, The German Invasion of Western North Carolina by Jacqueline Burgin Painter These Blue Mountains by Sarah Loudin Thomas  A moving story of love, betrayal, and the enduring power of hope in the face of darkness. German pianist Hedda Schlagel's world collapsed when her fiancé, Fritz, vanished after being sent to an enemy alien camp in the United States during the Great War. Fifteen years later, in 1932, Hedda is stunned to see Fritz's name in a photograph of an American memorial for German seamen who died near Asheville, North Carolina. Determined to reclaim his body and bring closure to his ailing mother, Hedda travels to the US. Her quest takes a shocking turn when, rather than Fritz's body, his casket contains the remains of a woman who died under mysterious circumstances. Local deputy Garland Jones thought he'd left that dark chapter behind when he helped bury Fritz Meyer's coffin. The unexpected arrival of Hedda, a long-suffering yet captivating woman, forces him to confront how much of the truth he really knows. As they work together to uncover the identity of the woman in the casket and to unravel Fritz's fate, Hedda and Garland grow closer. But with Hedda in the US on borrowed time while Hitler rises to power in Germany, she fears she'll be forced to return home before she can put the ghosts of her past to rest. In this episode of Southern Mysteries, we explore the real lives and southern legends behind those branded as witches. I was most impressed by all of the artwork collected in our guest Shelley McKechnie's wonderful volume on the experience. To me it is a form of artwork of sorts to collaborate with the many people in the volume and to make decisions as to what will be included in such a book. Now a year later than that storm, and during which so many people have been so helpful and healing during this period, I found my conversation with her an indispensable one for our podcast. Link to this magnificent book:  www.hawcreekpress.comMore about Shelley McKechnie and her wonderful work: Shelley McKechnie's career sits at the intersection of the arts, business, and community development. She's run three companies, held leadership positions in others, led a global nonprofit organization, and worked as a photojournalist and editor. She has written more than 100 by-lined articles for national magazines and edited and published Stronger than the Storm: Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, a regional bestseller which landed on several categories of national "best new release" lists on Amazon. In partnership with a Gambian community organization, she started and ran an entrepreneurship program for teen girls in West Africa that's now led by program graduates. Shelley holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BA in English from Cornell University. In 2015 she was selected for the inaugural class of Presidential Leadership Scholars, a joint initiative of four presidential libraries providing intense 6-month training and mentorship for established civic change-makers, and lifelong membership in an active and growing alumni association. She enjoys long-distance bike riding and is working to expand the greenway network in North Carolina. In this episode of The Articulate Fly fly fishing podcast, host Marvin Cash reconnects with guide Mac Brown for another Casting Angles segment focused on North Carolina's delayed harvest season. With the first Saturday in October marking the start of DH fishing across Western North Carolina waters, Mac shares tactical insights for success throughout the fall and winter. He explains how stocked trout behavior evolves rapidly—while "junk food" patterns work during the initial week, fish quickly become educated and demand more sophisticated presentations. Mac reveals his preferred approach: small dry flies (size 18-20) paired with wet fly droppers, which outperform the indicator rigs that 95% of anglers rely on. Laura speaks to organizers in western North Carolina one year after Hurricane HeleneThis show is made possible by you! To become a sustaining member go to LauraFlanders.org/donateDescription:  When Hurricane Helene hit western North Carolina in September 2024, it came as a shock, hitting mountains, not coasts, and flooding rivers and communities with little experience of dealing with hurricanes. Helene quickly became one of the worst storms to ever hit the U.S., and in the absence of a quick response by state or federal government, other groups flooded in. Right-wing actors took advantage of the chaos, spreading rumors about looting and trying to boost their image. But it's the mutual aid networks — some long standing, others new that responded with creative, effective strategies to distribute water, medicine and help communities rebuild. In this episode, Laura Flanders heads to some of the hardest-hit areas in western North Carolina and speaks with community activists to hear the lessons to be learned for the future. Amid Trump cuts to FEMA and the National Weather Service, the future for storm recovery in North Carolina is uncertain. But one thing's for sure — mutual aid support like Pansy Collective, Cherokee One Feather, Racial Justice Coalition (RJC), Rural Organizing and Resilience (ROAR) and Collaborativa La Milpa have the strategies and solutions we may all need for survival.“It takes the state a long time to mobilize, and that might continue to be true as FEMA gets defunded . . . It's imperative that people fight to keep their disaster response funding, but until then, we need to know how to respond ourselves.” - RT“We were talking to the people that were staying in hotels because they had just lost everything and didn't know where they were going to get their next meal or their medicine. Talk to those people . . . We had those journalists, especially BIPOC journalists in Western North Carolina, making sure those stories were told.” - Brooklyn Brown (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians)Guests:• Brooklyn Brown (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians): Reporter, Cherokee One Feather•. One year after Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, Canton Mayor Zeb Smathers joins The Hometown Holler for a powerful conversation about crisis, community, and the fight to keep small towns alive. Zeb relives Helene — from the death and destruction, to the misinformation and political spin, to the everyday acts of heroism that show why small towns still matter. He also recounts the paper mill shutdown known as “Black Monday” and shares what these experiences taught him about resilience, humanity, and the meaning of home. Along the way, he reveals what Washington gets wrong about rural America — and even weighs in on pro wrestling. For more Tar Heel deep dives and quick hits, subscribe to The Hometown Holler and follow us on social media:Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thehometownhollerTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hometownhollerBlue Sky: https://bsky.app/profile/thehometownholler.bsky.socialTwitter/X: https://x.com/hometown_hollerFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/thehometownhollerPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/TheHometownHoller

A year ago, Hurricane Helene slammed into Western North Carolina. What followed was one of the greatest storm disasters in our history, with uncounted deaths and destruction across the rural mountain communities. Federal assistance and response was wholly inadequate, leaving many even today still without basic needs. But from the wreckage rose community and an unstoppable Faith. Where our governments failed, the people came together, reminding us of the true foundation of strength in this nation. The story of Western North Carolina is about overcoming, putting their faith in Jesus, and coming together as Americans.
