D23 Comic News | Avengers: Doomsday & X-Men Just Got HUGE!

    Super Hero Homies!

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 1, 2026 112:09

D23 delivered some HUGE announcements for Marvel fans, and we're breaking down the biggest news, trailers, casting reveals, and theories coming out of the event! In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we dive into the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the latest MCU X-Men casting announcements, Doctor Doom, Incursions, Mr. Sinister, Jean Grey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Kingdom Hearts, and the premiere of DC's Lanterns! AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY TRAILER BREAKDOWN We start with the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer and everything it potentially reveals about Marvel's next massive crossover event. We discuss: • Doctor Doom's role in Avengers: Doomsday • Could Doom experience a heel turn during the movie? • Doctor Doom's potential motivations and master plan • Why Incursions may be the REAL threat • How Incursions work in Marvel Comics • Which Avengers could die in Doomsday • The movie's biggest trailer reveals • How Doomsday could set up Avengers: Secret Wars • Our theories for the future of the MCU Doctor Doom may be positioned as the movie's major antagonist, but we're theorizing that the true threat could be much bigger than any individual villain. With the Multiverse collapsing and Incursions threatening entire realities, could Doom actually become necessary to saving the MCU? And with the stakes this high, we're asking the painful question: Which Avengers aren't making it out alive? MCU X-MEN CASTING & THEORIES Next, we dive into the new X-Men casting announcements and theorize about Marvel Studios' upcoming 2028 X-Men movie. We discuss: • The new MCU X-Men cast • Which mutants could join the team • What Marvel's version of the X-Men could look like • Mr. Sinister's potential role • Could Mr. Sinister be the main villain? • Jean Grey's future in the MCU • Mutants finally becoming a major part of Marvel Studios • How the X-Men could connect to the post-Secret Wars MCU We also discuss Jean Grey's role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and how her story could directly influence the upcoming X-Men movie. Could Spider-Man actually help lay the groundwork for Marvel's mutant era? MR. SINISTER We get particularly nerdy discussing Mr. Sinister, his comic book history, obsession with mutant genetics, and why he could be an excellent villain for the MCU's first major X-Men story. After years of Magneto dominating X-Men adaptations, is it finally time for another classic mutant villain to take center stage? KINGDOM HEARTS RETURNS! We also briefly discuss the surprising announcement of a new Kingdom Hearts TV series and a new Kingdom Hearts game. What could a Kingdom Hearts television adaptation even look like? How heavily will Disney characters be involved? And are we prepared to once again pretend we understand the Kingdom Hearts timeline? LANTERNS EPISODE 1 Finally, we jump over to DC Studios for our thoughts on the first episode of Lanterns. And so far... We really like it! We discuss our first impressions, the show's characters, mystery, tone, and why we're excited to see where the series takes Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and the Green Lantern mythology. JOIN THE DISCUSSION What was the biggest D23 announcement? What is Doctor Doom's real plan? Which Avengers survive Doomsday? Who should join the MCU X-Men? Could Mr. Sinister finally get his time to shine? And what did YOU think of Lanterns Episode 1? Let us know in the comments! In this episode of The Next Chapter, I welcome survivor advocate and former law enforcement officer Kara Robinson Chamberlain back to Voices for Justice. Since Kara's first appearance in 2022, she has co-created and hosted Survivor's Guide to True Crime, helped shape a scripted film about her life, worked on a documentary exploring ethics in true crime, and stepped into a new role as the host and investigator of Somebody Knows Something. Kara shares how motherhood pushed her beyond coping and toward healing, and how her lived experience influences the way she approaches families, witnesses, law enforcement, and the online true crime community. We discuss the responsibility of telling real people's stories, the complicated balance between public participation and speculation, and why ethical storytelling requires care, nuance, and a clear call to action. I also ask Kara about the families and moments that stayed with her while filming, and why this next chapter is about using her platform to help other people find answers. Somebody Knows Something airs Mondays on Freeform and streams the following day on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for eligible United States bundle subscribers. If you have information about any case featured in the series, please contact the appropriate law enforcement agency directly. Jason revisits Point Break on the big screen 35 years later. Brock goes from The American President to Kate & Leopold and an MCU rewatch, and Stuart reports back from Chicago's new Obama Presidential Center. Plus Arnie and Justin unexpectedly find common ground in the comedy of The State, Wet Hot American Summer, and Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass. Then longtime listener Josh joins the show for Resident Evil trivia and turns the tables with a question about the origins of Now Playing Podcast's "Brown Arrow" Review Rating. Finally, Disney+ has assembled a 15-project watchlist to prepare for Avengers: Doomsday. Does revisiting the MCU's greatest hits and less-greatest hits make the crew more excited for the next Avengers movie, or does it just feel like homework? All this is explored on September's special Intermission episode!

Gene Simmons joins Andrew Gold for a completely unfiltered Heretics interview about KISS, celebrity politics, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Israel, fame, sex, money—and the first 29 years of his relationship with Shannon Tweed, which he now sees very differently. The KISS co-founder and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer explains why he believes the public should ignore political advice from entertainers—including himself. He takes aim at celebrity activism, discusses Kylie Jenner, Javier Bardem, Bruce Springsteen and Billie Eilish, reveals why he abandoned the Democratic Party, and warns that Los Angeles and New York are in deep trouble. But the most revealing moments are personal. Gene discusses being abandoned by his father, the terrifying childhood night that taught him to rely on himself, his extraordinary self-belief and why he says fame gave him permission to behave in ways an ordinary man never could. He also addresses the stories about 4,800 women, admits how his behaviour affected Shannon and their children, and responds directly to an explosive accusation involving his late KISS bandmate Ace Frehley. Along the way: Donald Trump, Mike Tyson, Margaret Thatcher, antisemitism, Israel, Islam, capitalism, the nuclear family, Gene's infamous tongue—and how KISS became “Disney without the overhead,” selling everything from condoms to caskets. This is Gene Simmons as few interviews capture him: funny, combative, candid and completely unfiltered. A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan — Episode Notes Episode: "Feathers and Bubbles" Hosts: Tom and Dan | Guest: Seth Petruzelli Sponsors / Ad Reads JustCallMoe.com — recording studio sponsor read at the top of the show; also plugged later as the presenting sponsor of the upcoming Tom and Dan Cruise. The Bart Marek Team (Bart Marek and Crystal Vann) — two full-time, experienced Florida realtors based in Clermont, offering "two-for-one" service for buying or selling; a personal testimonial about them helping sell a family member's house in St. Augustine; barttherealtor.com, call or text either agent directly. Fairvilla Megastore — sexual wellness superstore with multiple locations, described as having modern/high-tech products, costumes and lingerie for Halloween, Fairvilla University online educational courses, and a discreet "Secrets Hideaway" section; fairvilla.com. Don Mealy Chevrolet (Clermont) — longtime advertiser; contact GM JC Harrelson and mention Tom and Dan; plugged for Corvettes, trucks, and used vehicles, with a personal note about owning a Silverado and Traverse from them; DMChevy.com. Segment Rundown Cold open, grooming talk — Tom and Dan welcome Seth Petruzelli to the couch and razz him about his beard and blow-dried hair; a tangent on straighteners vs. blow-dryers leads into a bit about their wives' expensive Dyson hair tools. Recent celebrity deaths — The hosts run through a rough week of deaths, including Tim Curry, Dolly (referenced briefly), and the voice actor of Optimus Prime, riffing darkly on average lifespan. Seth's chronic chaos — Running bit that Seth is perpetually running late or juggling a crisis; today it's his dog and a vet appointment, plus it's revealed to be Seth's birthday. Seth's dog and Disney cruise — Seth brought his dog Rocky (a different Rocky than Tom's) on set; talk turns to Seth boarding him for four nights while Seth takes his first vacation in two and a half years, a Disney cruise with his wife and daughter Vera. Tom's dog Rocky and pet talk — Tom shows off his own dog Rocky on stream, admits he's been neglecting him since focusing on his young daughter, and the group jokes about pushing Tom's son Tommy toward wanting a dog or cat despite Tracy's reluctance. Karate class standards slipping — A tangent from the dojo talk about how kids today can't finish basic requirements (like a brown belt or three months of consistent training), tying into a broader "everything is getting weaker/no consequences" complaint, including schools making gym-class changing rooms optional now. Locker room embarrassment nostalgia — The hosts and Seth swap stories about being self-conscious getting undressed in front of others as kids and in a pro arena-football locker room as an adult. Seth's MRI/health update — Seth shares that he got a full-body MRI, compared it to one from two years prior, and got mostly good results except his prostate being "large side of normal." Seth's dojo being demolished — Seth explains his dojo's building is being torn down and he must vacate by November; he's negotiating a new space, planning to use students to help move (in exchange for food/drinks), and reflects on a black belt who's been especially helpful. Should Seth do a GoFundMe? — Debate over whether it's in good taste for a business to crowdfund when forced out by demolition, referencing a nearby business owner doing the same; jokes about a bikini car wash and a "GoFundMe vs. crowdfund" distinction (charity vs. general fundraising). The actual dojo car wash fundraiser — Dan recounts attending a real car-wash fundraiser for the dojo, paying more than requested because the kids did a thorough job. Daughter's Taco Bell complaint — Dan tells a story about his daughter filing an online complaint after Taco Bell repeatedly forgot part of her order. Joke about Seth's finances — Riffing on the idea that no one will donate to a GoFundMe for someone with a lakeside mansion, a boat, and a nice car, including a bit about trading in a BMW for a Hyundai. Dojo move logistics and mock fundraiser pitch — More detail on moving costs (a mirror company hired just to transport dojo mirrors, a dumpster for old equipment); the group jokingly pitches an absurd "buy a black belt" crowdfunding tier system, with Seth explaining the real distinction between an official ranked black belt and a "junior/in-house" one. AI in podcast production — The show discusses no longer paying a human for intro songs/jingles, now using AI for notes and occasionally songs (though they still do some manual ones too), and debate the line between AI convenience and "authenticity" compared to corporate radio. Prostitution sting debate — Sparked by 49ers owner Jed York's prostitution-sting arrest and a local Altamonte Springs sting ("Operation Midnight Heat," 37 arrests), the hosts argue undercover prostitution stings are a poor use of police resources compared to focusing on predators of minors, and make the case for regulating/legalizing sex work. Caller: Concrete Mike, prostitution talk — Concrete Mike calls in about hiring escorts for parties in the past; the call is plagued by a bad phone connection and cuts out repeatedly before the hosts move on. GTA 6 leak coverage — Detailed rundown of hacker "Cyber Leak's" leaked GTA 6 footage (starting August 18), new gameplay features (six-star wanted system, stamina and car-gas meters, a karma system, Red Dead-style bullet-time aiming), a leaked nudist-area clip, and a somber aside about how hyper-realistic "living a second life in a game" can feel. GTA franchise money talk — The hosts look up that the GTA franchise has made $11 billion total, with GTA 5 alone earning $815 million in its first 24 hours; confirmed November 19, 2026 release date for GTA 6. Caller: "J Volvo" — A young-sounding caller who turns out to be a 40-year-old Marine and brown belt calls in as a bit, pitching a "Fit Tom Fridays" 5K fundraiser idea for Seth's dojo; the hosts jokingly induct him as a rookie "cop" character and enjoy the surprise live call. New "Stage" Rock Band reboot — Discussion of an upcoming Rock Band-style rhythm game launching in December, with nostalgia about old Rock Band parties, and a broader riff on short attention spans/endless content (dating apps, streaming, mobile games) making it hard for any single game to hold interest. Six Flags roller coaster aneurysm story (teaser + full segment) — After a break, the hosts cover two women who suffered brain aneurysms riding Six Flags' X2 roller coaster, show POV footage of the ride's uniquely independently-spinning carts, and speculate (semi-jokingly) about the physics/anatomy behind why it happened. Flatulence and bathroom health talk — A crude tangent connecting back to Seth's MRI story, where he and the others discuss holding in gas, bowel habits, and general bathroom TMI. Voicemail: grandma question (Amedeus, Fort Myers) — A caller references a past on-air comment and asks which grandmother the hosts would rather "embarrass" in front of; leads to a riff on generational/cultural stereotypes about tougher vs. softer grandmothers. Voicemail: convenience store "big black mama" story (Debary Joe) — A caller shares a heartfelt/funny anecdote about a stranger's kindness at a gas station after a rough day, prompting brief pushback from a host about the framing of the story. Mad honey discussion — Seth explains he bought "mad honey" (a hallucinogenic honey from Nepal) and plans to have his wife try it first; the hosts detail its origins, effects, dangerous dosing risks, its history as an ancient biological weapon, and its recent viral popularity via a Joe Rogan clip. Nepal flooding aside — A brief, more serious detour about real disaster footage of catastrophic flooding in Nepal that circulated online. Psychedelics and mental health tangent — Talk shifts to Kratom, mushrooms, microdosing, and studies on psilocybin therapy for PTSD/anxiety; Seth admits he's more afraid of a mushroom trip than he ever was fighting professionally (referencing his MMA background against opponents like Kimbo Slice and Bob Sapp). Voicemail: adult content from caller "Mike" — A caller shares an explicit story from his younger years about hiring escorts for group parties at his house; the hosts summarize and react without repeating graphic detail. Voicemail: workplace exorcism question (BDM, Jacksonville) — A caller asks if anyone has heard of a business getting an exorcism, sparking a broader discussion about corporate superstition (feng shui, sage smudging, "energy"), with the hosts drawing a line between supernatural belief and legitimate ideas like attitude/mindset affecting outcomes. Voicemail: "Pure Pod" gadget — A caller points out that a produce-washing gadget advertised online is basically a vibrator; the hosts confirm the device is a real product marketed to skirt platform rules around selling sexual wellness items. Voicemail: old photo in ski resort system — A caller shares that a modern ski resort pulled up his decades-old childhood lift-ticket photo from a previous owner's records, leading to a discussion about how far back companies' digital recordkeeping goes and some personal skiing stories from the hosts. Dojo move update and wrap-up — Seth gives a final update: staying within a 3-mile radius under the new name "Soto Dojo," reviewing a lease, and dealing with a landlord dispute over alleged unpaid utility charges/liens the show insists were never billed properly. Studio/podcast future plugs and cruise pitch — The hosts float building a future glass-walled studio, mention recent released interviews (Patrick Warburton, Lorenzo Lamas), and give a detailed pitch for the upcoming Tom and Dan Cruise, including perks, cost, and booking details, before signing off. Key Dates / Plugs Mentioned November 2026 — Seth must vacate his current dojo location due to the building being demolished. November 19, 2026 — GTA 6 release date (confirmed unchanged despite ongoing leaks). December (2026) — New "Stage" Rock Band-style rhythm game launches. Ongoing — Seth relocating his dojo to a new spot within a 3-mile radius, tentatively named "Soto Dojo"; lease still being finalized. September 23–27, 2027 — Tom and Dan Cruise aboard the MSC Seashore (Thursday–Sunday), stopping in Nassau and a private island; includes unlimited drink package and free Wi-Fi for two, a live podcast taping, birthday party, and gambling night; $200 fully refundable deposit holds a spot, with payment installments available through Ahoy Cruises; presented by JustCallMoe.com. Recently released — New Patrick Warburton interview episode and a Lorenzo Lamas interview from the previous night. Notable Guests/Callers Seth Petruzelli — In-studio guest; martial arts instructor whose dojo is being forced to relocate. Concrete Mike — Phone-in caller; connection was too poor to complete his story. "J Volvo" — Phone-in caller; a 40-year-old Marine and brown belt who called in as a bit. Amedeus (Fort Myers) — Voicemail caller with a grandma-themed question. Debary Joe — Voicemail caller sharing a convenience-store story. Mike — Voicemail caller sharing a story from his past. BDM (Jacksonville) — Voicemail caller asking about a workplace exorcism. Unnamed caller — Voicemail about the "Pure Pod" produce washer. Unnamed caller (37 years old) — Voicemail about an old childhood ski resort photo resurfacing. ### Website: https://tomanddan.com/ App: https://tomanddan.com/app Become a BDM: https://tomanddan.com/registration Merch: https://tomanddan.myshopify.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TomandDanLive Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/tomanddanlive Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AMediocreTime Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tomanddanlive/ X: https://x.com/TomAndDanLive TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@tomanddanshow Reddit: https://reddit.com/r/tomanddan ACT RSS: https://feeds.libsyn.com/61976/rss AMT RSS: https://feeds.libsyn.com/18904/rss

Resort Wars: Showdown rolls on, and this time two very different Deluxe Villa resorts are stepping into the ring as Disney's Riviera Resort takes on Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa! We're putting these two resorts head-to-head across seven rounds, comparing them in theming and atmosphere, rooms and comfort, dining and drinks, transportation and location, recreation and amenities, value for money, and of course, listener intel. Riviera brings an upscale European-inspired atmosphere, a compact and easy-to-navigate layout, one of the strongest resort dining lineups at Walt Disney World, and the huge transportation advantage of the Disney Skyliner. But is all of that enough to justify the premium price? Saratoga Springs counters with a completely different experience. It's sprawling, peaceful, packed with recreation, offers everything from Deluxe Studios to the unique Treehouse Villas, and puts Disney Springs within walking or boating distance. It may not have the same polished feel as Riviera, but does its space, versatility, location, and value make it the better overall resort? We'll debate each category, award a point round by round, bring in your listener votes and comments, and make our final arguments before crowning a winner. Only one can advance in Resort Wars: Showdown. Will it be Riviera or Saratoga Springs?

Royce and Leise Winny kick off with a jam-packed check-in covering everything from the latest Disney and NFL apparel collaboration, AI engines giving openly biased advice, and Target pulling an offensive clown costume off the shelves, to looming economic anxiety, a week-long power crisis in Gary, Indiana, and an alarming rise in hate crimes across the country. They also unpack the political ripples of Hakeem Jeffries meeting with Jared Kushner and the online viral storm after an alleged racist group chat tied to Texas Roadhouse went public. From there, Royce takes the floor to examine how the modern attention economy is colonizing the WNBA, questioning who people are actually claiming to protect women's sports from while drawing some wild, hilarious dots across sports media. Leise then steps up to urge people to stop making excuses and say the quiet part out loud about voting motivations and systemic white supremacy. To round it out, Royce exposes the everyday "racial escape hatches" people lean on—from "I don't see color" to "it's not about race"—showing how modern society has somehow made the simple act of discussing race feel more offensive than the racial harm itself. Here is the full breakdown of topics the crew dives into this week:Opening welcome: Locking in the energy and setting the tone for the week.NFL x Disney Collaboration: Reacting to the new league-wide character apparel drops.AI's Racial Bias: What happens when AI tools spit out openly racist advice? The Target Costume Controversy: Dissecting the backlash that forced Target to pull their Halloween merchandise.US Economic D-Day: Breaking down the latest financial anxieties and shifting market pressures.Power Outage in Gary, IN: Addressing the humanitarian fallout of an entire city left in the dark for over a week.Spike in Hate Crimes: Confronting the disturbing rise in public violence and hangings of Black people across the US.Hakeem Meets Jared: Analyzing the political optics and quiet backroom meetings between Hakeem Jeffries and Jared Kushner.Texas Roadhouse Exposed: Unpacking the internet investigation into the alleged racist employee group chats.WNBA Colonized by the Attention Economy: Who are we really protecting women's sports from, and has the outrage cycle overtaken the game?Dot Connector: Connecting the bizarre cultural dots between Enes Kanter, viral stunts, and sports media spectacles.Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud: Challenging the narrative around recent political choices and confronting the reality of white supremacy at the ballot box.The Racial Escape Hatches: Breaking down cliché deflections like "I don't see color," "green or purple," and why addressing race makes people uncomfortable.Outro & Sign-Off: Final takeaways, closing remarks, and wrap-up.

Story of the Week (DR):Meta settles social media addiction case with California, other states for $16.7 billion MM5 Reasons to Be HappyAn $18 billion payout sets a historic legal precedent against Big Tech, directing billions in state funding toward youth mental health, counseling, and digital literacy programs.Instagram and Facebook must enforce default two-hour daily usage limits and completely block account activity between midnight and 6 a.m. for users under 18. Teens and parents gain the explicit right to disable addictive engagement algorithms in favor of a non-personalized, chronological feed. The settlement prohibits harmful beauty filters (such as cosmetic surgery simulators), hides "like" counts by default, and silences app notifications during school hours.Meta tied $5.3 billion of the payout to whether TikTok and YouTube adopt similar safety rules, forcing an industry-wide overhaul rather than penalizing just one app.5 Reasons to Be AngryPaid out over 10 years, the settlement amounts to roughly 10 days of Meta's annual profit, meaning Mark Zuckerberg's financial empire remains virtually unscathed.Meta's $17 billion child-safety settlement is the biggest tech payout ever—or 3x what it paid to acquihire a 28-year-old AI superstarTo put it in perspective, the $17.1 billion number is a little more than three times the roughly $5 billion personal stake that Alexandr Wang held in Scale AI, a data-labeling company that supplies the human-annotated training data AI models are built on. Last year, Meta paid $14.3 billion for a 49% stake in the company and brought in Wang to lead its AI efforts of its new Superintelligence Labs, reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg.Meta legally denies all wrongdoing, dodging true legal accountability for intentionally engineering addictive, mentally harmful features. The agreement alters user interface features and screen time, but leaves Meta's underlying data-harvesting business model completely untouched.Critical safeguards—like switching off algorithmic feeds—are opt-in settings rather than permanent defaults, shifting enforcement onto parents.Meta only pays 70% ($12.7 billion) upfront; the remaining $5.3 billion is contingent on competitors settling on identical terms, giving Meta a potential financial discount if rivals refuse. Worst headline of the week: Meta's $17.1 billion settlement will be over 12-times larger than the second largest big tech privacy settlement in the past four yearsMeta's $18 billion settlement leaves out the child protections New Mexico already won at trial, its Attorney General says: including a direct ban on romantic and sexualized AI chatbot interactions with minors and stronger safeguards against adults targeting kids in private messagesMM: Settlement gapsAge assurance:Meta may elect to use one or more Proprietary Age Assurance Methods. In such event, Meta shall not benefit from the presumption of compliance set forth in Section II.A.3.a. Additionally, Meta will maintain continuous oversight of any Proprietary Age Assurance Method sufficient to ensure that the method is functioning as intended.Tax deductibleThe Settling States shall cause to be completed and timely filed a Form 1098-F with the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) that identifies not less than 50% of the amounts paid to the Settling States as compensatory restitution and remediation within the meaning of 26 U.S.C. § 162(f)(2)(A)THEY BUNDLED CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA INTO THE SETTLEMENT$459m of the $17bn is the “Cambridge payout” - they can now put that behind them tooIs there a reason not to literally take Meta all the way? Why settle at all! Midterm elections? TAKE EVERYTHING! Meanwhile, while you settle this: Meta's creepy smart glasses are part of a much bigger plan“At the same time, Meta is using the content generated across its ecosystem to support Mark Zuckerberg's vision of a pervasive, AI-driven future. Zuckerberg's 2026 manifesto describes a world where personal AI agents will do your bidding. But building those systems requires more than conventional AI models. It also requires enormous amounts of data about human behavior, much of it generated and shared through Instagram, Facebook, and other Meta apps, or captured through hardware such as phones, smart glasses, and EMG Neural Band devices.”“We become “algorithm chow,” feeding the models intended to realize Zuckerberg's vision.”'We Know We Got This Wrong': Target Apologises and Pulls 'Offensive' Halloween Costume After Racist BacklashAn apology from us: We pulled an offensive Halloween costume that should never have been part of our assortment. It is no longer for sale. As a company, we got this wrong, and we are deeply sorry. We know this is especially hurtful for our Black guests, team members and partners. Removing the costume is an important first step, and the company is looking closely at how this happened and what needs to change to ensure this won't happen again.Target Statement on Offensive Halloween Costume: As a company, we know we got this wrong, and we are deeply sorry. The costume is offensive and should never have been part of our assortment. It is no longer available for sale. We know this is especially hurtful for our Black guests, team members and partners. Removing the costume is an important first step, and the company is looking closely at how this happened and what needs to change to ensure this won't happen again. The statement comes directly from Target's Corporate Communications department speaking on behalf of the entire enterprise, rather than a single individual like the CEO or Board Chair. Corporate apologies are deliberately released without a human signature for several strategic and legal reasons:Legal Personhood: Legally under U.S. law, Target Corporation is treated as a single legal entity (often called "corporate personhood"). It can sign contracts, hold liability, and issue official statements as an institution rather than as individual people.Leaving executive names off the statement prevents media coverage from focusing on a specific person (e.g., "CEO Brian Cornell Apologizes"). It keeps the focus on the company's operational changes and prevents individual leaders from becoming personal lightning rods for public backlash. These statements are rarely drafted by an executive. They are heavily scrubbed by legal counsel, crisis PR managers, and corporate strategy teams. Attaching a CEO's signature to a text engineered by a dozen lawyers and communications staff can actually feel less authentic internally.Phrasing the apology around "we" and "the company" establishes institutional accountability. It signals that the failure occurred in corporate vetting systems, not just from one bad decision-maker.In January 2025, Target Corporation announced the termination of its REACH initiative and restructuring of its Supplier Diversity program, marking one of the largest corporate DEI rollbacks in recent history. This decision has triggered public backlash, legal scrutiny, and investor uncertainty.Callaway Golf CEO apologizes after Good Good ad showing male golfer shoving woman sparks backlashCallaway Golf CEO Chip Brewer on Tuesday apologized for an advertisement that sparked an online backlash for its depiction of a male golfer shoving a female golfer to the ground when she attempts to use his driver."That approval should never have happened. Mistakes were made, and we are taking the matter very seriously," Brewer wrote on Tuesday. "I want to make it clear that we sincerely apologize for the video." Callaway released a statement Thursday explaining its reasoning behind ending the brand partnership: "Over the last several days, we have reflected deeply on the hurt and disappointment caused by the video we reposted. We heard from individuals who shared personal experiences related to violence against women, and their stories were powerful reminders that this issue touches the lives of far too many people. Unequivocally, violence against women is unacceptable and should never be trivialized, normalized, or used as entertainment.""In this instance, our content review process was not comprehensive enough …We have taken appropriate internal corrective actions and significantly strengthened our approval procedures to help ensure this does not happen again."The brand added that it would donate $1 million to organizations that aim to "prevent violence against women, provide resources to survivors, and advance education and awareness efforts."The online video ad, which was released online and has since been pulled, sparked criticism for depicting violence against women, while some consumers said they planned to stop buying products made by Callaway.Brewer said the ad, created by Good Good Golf, was released last week to promote a co-branded driver and had been approved by Callaway before the spot was posted online. The ad featured Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark telling Alexis Miestowski, a former Division I female golfer, in a menacing voice, "Do not touch my new driver," after he shoves her to the ground.Good Good is an American sports YouTube channel and company based in Frisco, Texas. Founded in 2020 by Garrett Clark, Stephen Castaneda, CEO Matt Kendrick, and Matt Scharff.Owner: Scoreboard ventures: co-founders Nahid Giga and Brian DickLead Investor: Creator Sports Capital — a firm co-founded by former YouTube executive Benjamin Grubbs and investment executive Brian Kabot.Good Good's CEO went nuclear on Callaway after the brand cut ties over an ad scandal"Interesting that @CallawayGolf asks us to make an ad then approves it then asks us to take the fall then drops us in a coordinated media blitz and covers it up by giving a million dollars away thinking everyone will be ok with it," Matt Kendrick wrote in a post on X.The ad fallout has had major repercussions for Good Good's business beyond the loss of its Callaway partnership. Dick's Sporting Goods yanked Good Good products from shelves, and the golf group pulled out as a title sponsor for a PGA Tour event in the fall. The reverberation has spread to the Golf Channel, which scrapped the upcoming season of its reality golf series "Big Break," whose grand prize was entry into the PGA Tour event that Good Good was supposed to have sponsored.FFA:14% have merit2 women! There is a new documentary coming out about Olympic breakdancer and academic, Raygun, and we don't know how we're going to be able to wait for its release. In the meantime, we talk about Amanda Knox's decision to try her hand at comedy, and why we think maybe she should do literally anything else. We debate whether it's inappropriate for her to make light of a murder or whether being wrongfully accused means she is a victim too, thus giving her more freedom to make jokes. We hear about a golf cheater and how his life is ruined over the dumbest lie ever told. We find out about an uber driver who has been in jail for years for accidentally transporting marijuana. We debate the rights of a surrogate who refused to terminate her pregnancy despite the agreement she'd made with the birth parents. We discuss why microwave beeps are so annoying. We hear about a football team who used "color theory" to intimidate their opposition in the locker room. We find out why wedding gifts in Japan have less value now and we learn why reading literally any book makes you less likely to die.Brain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)TDM-RESERVATION: 1.
