You leave a voicemail for a loan officer you'd love to have on your team, and before they ever call you back, they look you up. For years that meant Google. More and more it means they open ChatGPT and ask who you are, and whatever comes back becomes their first impression of you before you've said a single word. Most leaders have never once checked what that answer says. Here's what I want you to walk away with today. The answer about you gets written either way, and by the end of this episode you'll know how to help write it. I'll give you five moves to become the AI-recommended leader. Episode Breakdown [00:01:25] The Producer Who Signed Because of a Monday Post A leader I coach had been working a hundred-million-dollar producer for a long time. She made him an offer and he said he was in, then he didn't sign. The offer expired, she wrote another, he said yes again, and still no signature. Offer after offer, and if you've recruited any length of time you know how that feels, wondering if you said something wrong or if he was using you to get a raise. Then one Monday morning her phone buzzes, and it's a text. He's signing. He saw her post that morning and told her that was what he needed. Nothing about the offer changed that weekend. The comp was the same, the company was the same, the start date was the same. What changed was what he saw when he looked her up. He'd been quietly watching to see who she is as a leader the whole time, the same way every recruit does. [00:02:50] Move 1: Run the Check on Yourself Search your own name with nothing else attached, because that's exactly what a recruit does right after your voicemail. Then open ChatGPT and ask it who you are. That's the first minute of a recruit's research, and most leaders have never looked. While you're at it, search your name with the word mortgage and your state and scroll to page two, because all of that is part of what a recruit sees. I ran an AI audit recently on a producer doing about $25 million a year. When somebody searched her name, AI named her 19 times out of 20. When a stranger asked AI for a loan officer in her market, it named her zero times out of 35. She had profiles, reviews, and content everywhere, and she was still invisible to anyone who didn't already know she existed. [00:03:54] Move 2: Say Who You Are the Same Way Everywhere AI decides what to say about you based on clarity and agreement first. Clarity means it has to be sure which person you are, because a common name, an old title, or a company change last year can make it describe somebody else or an older version of you. Agreement means your LinkedIn, your company bio, and every intro all describe the same leader. So write one sentence I call your known-for statement, who you build for, where you lead, what you help them do, and what changes for them when they work with you, and only say what's true for your team today. Put that sentence in your LinkedIn headline, the first line of your About section, your company bio, and every podcast or speaker intro, then leave it alone for 90 days, because AI learns it from repetition. And when a recruit clicks through to your LinkedIn, open your About section with who you are outside of work, because they only see the first few lines before they decide whether to keep reading, and I want them connecting with you as a person first. [00:05:15] Move 3: Put Proof Where Recruits Look The third thing AI weighs is proof from other people, and what loan officers say about you carries more weight than anything you'll ever write about yourself. I studied a loan officer who shows up number one in AI in his market and couldn't explain why. When we dug in, it was reviews. At every closing his team hands the client an iPad with the Google review already pulled up, the whole team does it, and he's sitting on around 1,800 of them. The same principle works for you as a leader. Ask the loan officers you lead for an honest LinkedIn recommendation about what it's been like working together. Tell them to say whatever's true and that it's completely fine if they'd rather not, keep it voluntary, don't offer anything in exchange, and run any team results past your compliance team before you publish them. [00:06:15] Move 4: Build for the Kitchen Table There's a predictable path every recruit takes once you've reached out. First is the check, that bare search on your name, and it's the one that matters most. If you pass it, they do the company check to see what's behind you. Then comes the kitchen table, where they decide, usually with a spouse who looks you up all over again on a phone that's never more than an arm's length away. That spouse may have heard years of complaints about this industry and has no reason to trust you yet. So build one page, I call it your Working With Me page, that answers what the spouse wants to know, who you're a great fit for, how you lead, and what it's like to be on your team. Most leaders never think about that second search, and it's often the one that decides it. [00:07:10] Move 5: Show Up for Loan Officers Every Week and Point People to It A lot of leaders have a feed written entirely for borrowers and agents, so when a producer searches their name, there's nothing there for a producer. Post weekly for the loan officer you'd love to recruit, about leadership, growth, and where the business is going, and hold that rhythm long enough for it to add up. I did a version of this back in 2010. I pulled my state's list of licensed real estate agents, started a LinkedIn group, and posted into it twice a week as the only mortgage leader in the room. About a year later, agents I'd never met were walking up to me in restaurants because they recognized me. Then make it easy for recruits to find. One team was running a 55% no-show rate on booked first meetings and tested one change. The confirmation text got a PS with a link to the leader's social profile, and the no-show rate collapsed. The only difference was that people got a look at who they were about to sit down with before they showed up. [00:08:15] Why It Works The data on $20 million producers says 75% of them made their decision based on the peripheral information they found well before the first or second conversation did any of the work. And the place they go to find that information is moving fast. A couple of years ago almost nobody searched inside AI, and today 52% of Gen Z start their searches there instead of Google. AI builds its answer about you from clarity, agreement, and proof, and every one of those is something you can shape starting this week. There's a second payoff most leaders miss. Once you've done this for yourself, you've got something to give. In our recruiting intensive this month, one leader ran an AI visibility check on the loan officers on his team the day we taught it and booked one-on-ones with them for the following week. Do that for a recruit and you're handing them something their current leader has never thought about. I call it the surrogate leadership principle. When you bring leadership value someone isn't getting where they are, they start moving toward you, and a recruit who's already seen that from you tends to like what they find when they look you up. [00:09:35] Your Small Win Today Before your next recruiting call, do the check. Search your name by itself, then ask ChatGPT who you are, and read what comes back as if you were a loan officer deciding whether to return your voicemail. It takes about two minutes, and it'll probably bother you a little, and that's the reason it goes first. [00:09:55] Three Bigger Moves This Week Write your known-for statement and put it in your LinkedIn headline and your company bio, so every recruit who looks you up meets the same leader your team already knows. Send the recommendation ask to three loan officers you lead, which gives your people a chance to say what it's like to work with you and gives recruits proof they can trust. Then add a PS with a link to your profile on every meeting confirmation your team sends, so fewer of the meetings you worked hard to book end with an empty chair. Step 3 (this episode): Love God with All Your Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength "No one rebels against that which they love." What you love becomes obvious to others (illustrated humorously via sports team loyalty). How to Train Kids to Love God In the good times: Teach kids to be thankful. Teach them to be thankful for each other (birthdays, Father's/Mother's Day, graduations), and for God's provision through others (writing thank you notes). Prioritize church attendance even when life is comfortable — ease is often when people quietly deprioritize God. Invest financially/practically in opportunities for kids to encounter God (e.g., sending kids to summer camp despite the cost). In the dark times: Personal Example: loss of children (infant loss), loss of both of Bethlie's parents, church transitions, ministry conflicts/misunderstandings. Foundation matters: loving God consistently in good times prepares a family not to be "blown out of the water" by hard times. Framing for kids: hardship isn't God abandoning the family — it's the reality of living in a fallen/sin-cursed world; God remains good and can grow us through difficulty. Model consistency: continue church attendance, Bible reading, prayer, and kindness within the home even when discouraged — kids watch whether parents' faith holds up under pressure. Have honest, age-appropriate conversations with kids about what's happening and reaffirm the family's commitment to keep loving God through it. Serving others during hard times shifts focus off self and onto others — described as "powerful." Callback to Episode 1 theme: "serve the Lord with gladness" — serving happily in both good and bad times testifies to love for God. Caution on guarding the tongue (referencing James 1:26) — complaining/negativity undercuts a credible testimony of loving God, especially in front of children. 欢迎收听雪球出品的财经有深度，雪球，国内领先的集投资交流交易一体的综合财富管理平台，聪明的投资者都在这里。今天分享的内容叫我对美团Callback的一点看法，来自思辨财经。二零二六年第一季度财报发布当天，美团照例给核心机构投资者开了Callback。其中官方说了一个核心信息，即与阿里的外卖U E差扩大到了3块。对此，阿里回应：“完全不靠谱。不算总部成本餐饮U E差不到2块钱，算总部成本U E差更小，并且近期U E差在缩小。”我们拿到了美团Callback的纪要内容，把管理层给出的几个关键数据放在一起算了算，越算越困惑，因为它们在数据和逻辑上是自相矛盾的。这就很奇怪。下面我们就用美团自己在Callback上的信息来仔细做一下梳理。美团在Callback上说了三件事：第一，纯餐饮外卖4月、5月已实现小幅盈利，第二季度有望整体盈亏平衡；第二，目前纯餐饮外卖和竞争对手的U E差已拉大至3元；第三，行业补贴持续退坡，竞争趋于理性。我们来做一道简单的算术题。如果美团第二季度外卖微利、和淘闪U E差3元同时成立，那意味着淘闪每单亏损3元。按照阿里餐饮外卖日均约6000万单计算，每天仅餐饮外卖就多亏1.8亿元。加上非餐部分，一个季度下来，阿里在淘闪上就是至少200亿的亏损。就是说，阿里在淘闪上的投入在继续扩大？但王兴在电话会上又说“行业补贴终于变得更加理性”，也就是他认为淘宝闪购的补贴在减少。这是一个自相矛盾点。阿里的财报也证明了这一点。阿里二六年第一季度财报显示，中国电商的E B I T A相比去年同期减少了178亿，淘闪相比前几个季度已大幅减亏，而且后续的减亏时间线非常清晰：二零二七财年结束前有信心实现U E转正。阿里第二季度对闪购的投入只会更低，不会更高。如美团管理层所说，第二季度具有季节性特点，本来就是外卖盈利表现最好的季节，淘闪应该也有比较明显的减亏才对。而且美团也说，长期来看，如果淘闪能做到盈亏平衡，美团的单均盈利能力是1到1.5元。也就是说，美团自己预期的长期结构性U E差只有1到1.5元。在行业补贴退坡的当下，双方U E差应该缩小，怎么反而会扩大到3块？美团的管理层一直对外传递一个叙事："我们的效率远高于对手，烧钱也烧不过我们。"但数据其实并不支持这个逻辑。看今年二季度的情况，美团即使外卖U E转正，相比二零二四年第二季度同期核心本地商业的152亿利润，还是少了100多亿。这和市场对淘闪在第二季度的投入预期是差不多的，也是100多亿。再回头看一季度的实际数据，美团一季度调整后净利润同比减少约160亿（从盈利110亿到亏损50亿），与阿里对淘闪一季度的投入规模基本一致。也就是说，今年一季度和二季度，阿里和美团双方战损比为1:1。但美团用亏损换来的是什么？丢了外卖市场份额，订单增幅有限，市场地位不可能再回到二零二四年。阿里同样亏了钱，但至少市场份额在实打实地增长，单量也达到去年同期的2到3倍。花同样的钱，一个是守住部分存量，一个是攻下增量——谁的效率更高？

I want to do a brief recap: We're in a series called The Book of Forgiving, drawing from Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter Mpho's important work on what forgiveness actually is, and how to do it. The Tutus aren't theorists. Desmond Tutu chaired South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Mpho lost her husband to violent crime. These are people who have earned the right to talk about this. Their framework is called the Fourfold Path: Telling the Story → Naming the Hurt → Granting Forgiveness → Renewing or Releasing the Relationship. In wk 1 we looked at the first step: Telling the Story. Today: Naming the Hurt. The big idea underneath all of it: We desperately need an imagination bigger than the revenge cycle we live inside culturally. That cycle is everywhere— in our politics, our entertainment, our instincts. The Tutus show us a different road. The Problem with How We Do Forgiveness Let's be honest about why forgiveness is so hard to practice, even for people who believe in it. We've collapsed forgiveness into remorse. Someone says "sorry!"— maybe genuinely, maybe not— and suddenly the pressure shifts entirely to the person who was hurt: Now you have to forgive. We skip the whole middle. That's not forgiveness. That's cruel urgency dressed up as something kind. We've made forgetting the goal. But the Tutus are clear: forgetting is not only impossible, it's actually counterproductive. Memory is part of how we protect ourselves. Part of how we stay honest. Forgiveness is not amnesia. We've weaponized it. In religious spaces especially, "forgive" has been used to protect people who caused harm and to silence people who were hurt. When forgiveness gets wielded as a command that bypasses accountability — when it becomes "Jesus says you have to forgive, so stop talking about what happened" — that is not sacred or faithful. That is abusive. And yet — Jesus does make forgiveness an ultimate, limitless command. Seventy times seven. God forgives without limit; our response is gratitude and extending that same grace. So how do we hold both? How do we take forgiveness seriously without letting it become a weapon? The answer is: we stop skipping the important steps. Forgiveness Cannot Be Rushed The Fourfold Path is a path…  it has an order for a reason. You cannot get to granting forgiveness without first telling the story and naming the hurt. Trying to skip there is what creates the toxic, pressured, performative version of forgiveness we've all experienced. And we'll get into this later in the series, but granting forgiveness has nothing to do with the decision to either renegotiate or release that relationship.  Forgiveness needs to be as slow as it needs to be. It has a pace of its own. That pace deserves to be honored. (Callback to the stone practice from Week 1): Did anybody actually hold that stone in their non-dominant hand for six hours this week? What was that like? [[funny?]] That's the point. Six hours felt like a lot. Some of us have been carrying something for six years. Or sixty. It deserves time. The Second Step: Naming the Hurt  So what does it actually mean to name the hurt? It starts with telling your story… to yourself? To God? To people you trust. Not to everyone. Not on social media. Not to the first person who will listen. To the right people, in a safe space. The Tutus: Tell your story first to a friend, loved one, or trusted person. That's a good place to start. There is a reason confession exists across almost every spiritual tradition. Not as a transaction, but as the practice of being heard without being fixed. What naming the hurt does: It begins to move what happened from something that is happening to you — constantly, on loop — into something that happened, that you can now begin to look at. Bessel van der Kolk: the body keeps what the mind won't name. When we give language to an experience, we move it from the body's alarm system into the part of the brain that can begin to process it. The Tutus frame it this way: Identify the feelings within the facts. The facts are WHAT HAPPENED. The feelings are what it COST you. What naming the hurt does NOT do: It does not mean what was done to you was okay. It does not mean you've forgiven anything yet. It does not mean you owe anyone resolution. But there is something that begins to shift. There is relief– which to be clear, is not the same as justice, and not the same as healing, but real relief— when the hurt stops being the main character in your story because you finally named it out loud. The Tutus again: No feeling is wrong, bad, or invalid. Move forward when you are ready. We Are Only Human With Other Humans This is why we do this together. Not because community is always safe — sometimes it isn't. But because we cannot become fully human alone. The Tutus: We do not heal in isolation. Connecting with others is how we develop compassion for others and for ourselves. What makes a good witness to someone naming their hurt? The Tutus give us a short, countercultural list: Listen. Do not try to fix the pain. Do not minimize the loss. Do not offer advice. Offer your love and your caring. That's it. Stay in the room. Don't flinch. Don't fix. That is one of the most profound gifts one human can offer another. Invitation: The Stone Practice Now we're all going to do something together— kids and adults. Invite everyone to pick up or find their stone. Walk them through the Tutus' "Clenching the Stone" practice (Book of Forgiving, Chapter 5): Take your stone in your dominant hand. Think of a hurt you are carrying right now. Name it… silently, or under your breath. As you name it, clench the stone in your fist. Now open your hand. As you release your fist, release the hurt — not forever, not resolved, just... set down for a moment. You can clench and release again for each thing you're carrying. Breathe… We're not asking you to be over it. We're not asking you to forgive it yet. We're just asking you to name it, and take the permission you can give yourself to walk the path of forgiving, at a pace that is right for you. That's enough for today. That's the work.
