In this interview we are diving deep into the bloody, visceral world of one of cinema's most legendary horror franchises. Join me and Tandi as we deconstruct the movie, Evil Dead Burn! She portrays a powerful character who is selfless to save her family by literally going to hell. She also shared some terrifying behind-the-scenes secrets, expressing the fun on set while exhibiting her stunt work. She also mentions the toughest challenges while delivering an unforgettable performance. There's no doubt that she's talented and a master of her class for bringing such raw, powerful emotion to the screen. Evil Dead Burn is still playing exclusively in theaters right now. Trust me, it is a nasty, relentless ride that you need to experience on the biggest screen possible.

Phil and Emily are joined by writer and critic April Wolfe for Sam Raimi's The Gift (2000). Cate Blanchett plays a widowed Georgia fortune teller who reads cards to keep her family afloat and gets pulled into a murder when a local woman (Katie Holmes) goes missing. Giovanni Ribisi, Keanu Reeves, Hilary Swank, and Greg Kinnear round out a stacked Southern-gothic ensemble. The three dig into Raimi working in a minor key between the Evil Dead films and Spider-Man, Blanchett anchoring a lurid pulp thriller with total conviction, the movie's very year-2000 ideas about class and the South, and the simple pleasure of a mid-budget, star-packed genre picture that basically nobody makes anymore. April brings a horror writer's eye to what works, what's silly, and what quietly holds up.Follow the show & guest:Podcast Like It's... - https://www.instagram.com/podcastlikeitsPhil Iscove - https://www.instagram.com/pmiscoveEmily St. James - https://www.instagram.com/emilystjamsApril Wolfe - https://www.instagram.com/awolfeful

It has been a long time since we have talked about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But this week we have a lot to talk about. And it is more than just the Doomsday trailer and the upcoming Spider-Man movie. On the plus side, it seems like the MCU may be closer to the darker Marvel that people have dreamed about for years. That being said, we also heard that with the last Doctor Strange movie and The New Mutants. Only time will tell, but we are interested in what is happening. We have nothing against toilet humor and low hanging fruit. Troma is responsible for some of our favorite movies. And just generally speaking it is good to have a palette cleanser. Not every movie can be high art or a thrill a minute slasher. Bowels of Hell is a one joke movie. Literally. Every single gag in the Brazilian import is centered around shit. This is not the problem, however. It actually builds well to a pretty cool ending. But the ride there is an arduous one. In between the comedy are long stretches of exposition that fail deliver the message the movie seems to be trying to make. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. This week on Friday Night Frightfest, we are heading deep into the Tennessee woods to kick off a brand-new multi-part retrospective series dedicated to the ultimate splatter-horror royalty! Over the next few episodes, we'll be exploring the entire Evil Dead saga—from its scrappy, low-budget origins all the way to its modern reboots. To start our franchise journey, we're pitting the raw, visceral terror of Sam Raimi's original cabin-in-the-woods shocker, The Evil Dead (1981), against its legendary, laugh-out-loud slapstick horror-comedy follow-up, Evil Dead II (1987). Strap in as we track Bruce Campbell's transformation from a mild-mannered victim into the ultimate chainsaw-wielding anti-hero! The Evil Dead (1981) Crafted on a shoestring budget by a group of young, ambitious friends in the woods of Morristown, Tennessee, The Evil Dead remains one of the most relentlessly oppressive and innovative low-budget horror films ever made. Five college students arrive at an isolated cabin where they accidentally play a reel-to-reel recording of ancient Sumerian incantations from the Naturom Demonto (the Book of the Dead). What follows is an unhinged descent into graphic, demonic terror as the unseen Kandarian Demon possesses them one by one. Driven by Raimi's frantic "shaky-cam" cinematography, Tom Sullivan's nauseating practical gore effects, and a grim, unrelenting tone, this original nightmare set the benchmark for modern survival horror. Evil Dead II (1987) Six years later, armed with a bigger budget and a wildly anarchic vision, Sam Raimi returned to the cabin to invent a whole new subgenre. Part remake recap, part escalation, Evil Dead II hits the fast-forward button on the original's setup and throws Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) into a hyper-violent, Three Stooges-style cartoon hallucination. Trapped in the cabin alone with possessed severed hands, laughing furniture, and Deadites lurking in the cellar, Ash loses his mind—and his hand—before strapping a chainsaw to his arm and rising as the "Groovy" action icon we know and love. It is a tour de force of physical comedy, buckets of multi-colored blood, and pure, joyful cinematic chaos. Join us as we dissect this foundational double feature and launch our dive into the Necronomicon lore! Spoilers start around 9:38

Once upon a gloriously grim time, a band of fearless amateur filmmakers gathered in the woods and conjured a monster: the Evil Dead film series. Sam Raimi seized the director's spellbook, Bruce Campbell strapped on his boomstick, and together they unleashed three deliriously chaotic adventures that became cult treasures. As the decades rolled on, Raimi passed the torch to new sorcerers of cinema, each trusted to summon fresh horrors. And now, in 2026, the latest incantation—Evil Dead Burn—has erupted onto theater screens, drawing fans like moths to a demonic flame. From IMDB comes the tale whispered in the shadows: “After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws. As one by one they transform into deadites, she comes to discover that the vows she took in life—survive even in death.” It's a story stitched with grief, dread, and the kind of family reunion only the Evil Dead could make hilariously horrifying.Guided by French filmmaker Sébastien Vanicek—whose insect‑infested nightmare Infested (2023) still crawls through viewers' memories—the film was co-written with his longtime collaborator Florent Bernard. The cast, including Souheila Yacoub, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Tandi Wright, Erroll Shand, and Maude Davey, dives headfirst into the carnage. Early watchers whisper that the movie is gloriously gory and savagely brutal, carrying the torch of French Extreme horror straight into American theaters. And now your cohosts, having braved the cinematic bloodbath themselves, return from the darkness to share what they found lurking inside.

"Dry for wet" underwater scenes! Hints of secret underwater affairs! Equal opportunity boss punching! Poor quarantine protocols! Someone opening a Pepsi can with their teeth! Questionable management training! Insufficient skiing knowledge! Fun and gross special effects from Stan Winston! A cast that includes Peter Weller, Ernie Hudson, Daniel Stern, Richard Crenna, and Amanda Pays! Crew members that worked on Terminator 2, Alien, Robot Jox, Rambo 2, Cobra, and Blade Runner! All that and more in this "diamond-encrusted trash" that is not only a great sea monster/body horror movie, but possibly one of the best mockbusters ever made! In addition, the gang shares their spoiler-free thoughts on 1991's Cape Fear, the Apple TV shows Cape Fear and Murder bot, as well as Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, Milly Alcock's Supergirl, and Evil Dead Burn! We've got one more Must See Horror before we kickstart our Summer Slasher Series, so we're looking at Peter Jackson's Braindead/Dead Alive. Before he brought us the unforgettable fantasy epic of J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of the Ring's, Peter Jackson was getting up to some extremely gory weirdness with something that's a little Evil Dead, a little Monty Python and a little something we don't really understand. When a Sumatran Monkey-Rat bites his mother and zombifies her, Lionel Cosgrove has got to do something? Stop it from spreading? Keep her alive? Shag a Latina? Truth be told, it's a horror-comedy that you've got to just sit back and experience. But is Braindead/Dead Alive Must See Horror Remember to hit that subscribe button and leave us a lovely review. The EVIL DEAD franchise has spent more than forty years proving that nothing good ever comes from a quiet weekend in the woods, reading Latin out loud, or owning a basement with questionable acoustics. This month, we're opening the Necronomicon and digging through the entire blood-soaked history of the series, from Sam Raimi's original nightmare and Ash's increasingly terrible employment history to the 2013 bloodbath, EVIL DEAD RISE, and the latest entry, EVIL DEAD BURN. Along the way, we're talking Deadites, boomsticks, possessed relatives, medieval detours, chainsaw maintenance, and the remarkable durability of a franchise built almost entirely on bad decisions and industrial quantities of fake blood. Join us as we rank the carnage, praise the practical effects, and once again ignore the very reasonable advice to leave the creepy book alone.

The movie just hit theaters, and if you're a physical media collector, the soundtrack is actually getting a vinyl release this September. If you haven't caught the trailer yet, the plot centers on Alice, played by Souheila Yacoub. She's a young widow trying to process the death of her abusive husband, Will. She goes to stay with her former in-laws for a memorial, which already sounds like a nightmare on its own, but then things go completely off the rails. They come across the Necronomicon, unleash the usual Deadite chaos, and Alice has to hunt down a Kandarian dagger to burn the whole family house to the ground just to stop the spread. It takes a lot of those classic, messy Evil Dead tropes and grounds them in a pretty dark family dynamic. We talked with Double Danger about how they approached scoring that specific brand of chaos, how they landed on the sound for this entry, and what it was like working in such an iconic horror universe. Here is our conversation with Double Danger.
