David Duchovny sits down with Guy to talk about his wide-ranging creative life.
David Duchovny is best known for his television roles as FBI agent Fox Mulder on The X-Files (1993-2002 and 2016-2018) and writer Hank Moody on Californication (2007-2014), both of which earned him Golden Globe awards. Beyond his extensive on-screen accomplishments, which include dozens of other films and television shows, he's also a musician and the writer of four novels. Duchovny last joined us at Town Hall to talk about his 2016 book, Bucky F*cking Dent; this June, we're pleased to welcome him back to discuss his latest title, The Reservoir. Inspired by Duchovny's own quarantine times in New York City, The Reservoir follows an unexceptional man living during an exceptional time. Ridley, a former Wall Street veteran, looks back on his life during his days of quarantined solitude and examines his wins, failures, career, relationships, and family. Brooding night after night, he gazes out his picture window high above the Central Park Reservoir and spots a flashing light in an apartment across the park. It's almost as if a lonely quarantined person is signaling him in Morse code. Who are they? And are they in trouble? Determined to identify the mystery person, Ridley leaves the safety of his apartment to save his hypothetical damsel in distress and descends into a surreal and dangerous world of conspiracies, madness, and sickness. As he spirals further into mysteries of love, life, and fatherhood, he realizes that the key to it all might lie deep beneath the freezing waters of the reservoir. Join us at Town Hall as Duchovny discusses his latest novel's twists, turns, and reflections of our disorienting and distanced times. David Duchovny is an award-winning actor, writer, director, New York Times best-selling author, and singer-songwriter. With an acting career spanning more than three decades, Duchovny is a two-time Golden Globe winner and four-time Emmy nominee. He is a prolific author whose fourth novel, Truly Like Lightning, was published in February 2021. His previous novels include the New York Times bestseller Holy Cow, Bucky F*cking Dent, and Miss Subways. As a musician, Duchovny has released three studio albums, Hell or Highwater, Every Third Thought, and Gestureland. Jess Walter is a former National Book Award finalist and winner of the Edgar Allan Poe Award, the author of seven novels, one book of short stories, and one nonfiction book. His work has been translated into 32 languages, and his fiction has been selected three times for Best American Short Stories as well as the Pushcart Prize and Best American Nonrequired Reading. His stories, essays, and journalism have appeared in Harper's, Esquire, Playboy, McSweeney's, Tin House, Ploughshares, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and many others. Unfortunately, Caitlin would be Brad Pitt in this scenario, which fuckin makes me Christian Slater.... Orrrrr I would be Mulder and that would make Caitlin Scully?..... which is ok because Mulder is also Hank Moody and that is also a fantastic show.... anyway.... youve obviously got some religious talk headed your way if you decide to jump down this rabbit hole... good luck and farewell fuckface
Macro Confessions Part XXVIII, projecting forward from the macro year 2007. Chris finds a Hank Moody like Acid Capitalist holed up in his friends' beautiful villa in St Barts. staring wistfully at the surf. The unthinkable has happened, Russian tanks have broken ranks and are moving in on Kiev.Risk becomes philosophical. The Dice Man declares that if you can't think then you have no soul, for a soul is something subject to reflection. Little thinking seems apparent in this modern outbreak of war within the central theatre of Europe and so emotions will determine the landscape of European markets. The boys begin with a push back on the comments from Shell's trading desk. They claim that speculators are pushing energy prices up to levels that will impact harmfully on ordinary citizens. Pas de tout claims Hugh. It is the long awaited entrance of price discovery that reveals the lamentable record of Europe's leaders. No foresight, no courage has bequeathed a generation with an acute shortage of local energy sources and no infra-structure to link with democratic suppliers. Fight them on the beaches, fight them in the markets...Gas? It's still all about gas. The High Priest presents a detailed look behind the futures market for energy and the perils of trading commodity futures. He concludes that the blip in energy prices is most unlikely to prove transitory but will be levitated for much longer to encourage better political energy sourcing and to accelerate much needed energy infra structure. When will the macro reset end? Hugh estimates that one has to keep an eye on mean reversion in the zeitgeist stocks of Apple and Meta. Are times changing? It does look like a return to a time of chaos. The 1970s had an energy crisis, the Russians ignored sovereign niceties and invaded another country and gold? Gold went to the moon. It bares close attention.Tune in or miss out.

We're divided on Decoupled, the new Netflix sitcom starring R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla. We discuss the show's problematic protagonist, debate whether the humour is tone-deaf or satirical, and wonder how involved director Hardik Mehta was, considering the strong stamp of authorship that creator Manu Joseph has left all over the place. We also highlight some notable scenes, and draw comparisons to Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm and Hank Moody from Californication. — Hosted by Akhil Arora and Rohan Naahar, The Long Take is fully bootstrapped. I am not much of a fan of religion. I am a true fan of Bad Religion which was, is and always will be the most influential band of my life and the source of my entire persona, mentality, outlook and view of life. Bad Religion, to those that know nothing about punk rock, the band or the band members, Greg, Brett and Jay, the founders, Bad Religion is not about hating religion or that religion is a negative thing. To them, their iconic Cross buster, the name means that we don't practice religion in the traditional sense but those that do, that's cool, that is your perogative, it just isn't ours. Brett is quoted saying "Bad Religion is about being progressive and Jesus Christ was one of the most progressive individuals for his time".That's not exactly verbatim but 96% there. I don't know if Dr. Greg Grafffin, yes motherfuckera he has a PhD and I did read his published dissertation on Religion and Materialism, which I understood some of but, only think is the source for the album, The Process of Belief, one of their best albums, featuring Keyoto Now and the hit, Sorrow. The following statements are mine alone and not those if the aforementioned band so I have no idea whether they would agree with my but here we go......Donyou all remember the transitive property using logical inference /reasoning? If a =b and b= c than it follows that a = c. Therefore, if knowledge equals power and power corrupts, according to Machiavelli and his book The Prince, ultimate power will always ultimately corrupts. Clear unassailable login and anyone of reasonable intellect would conclude that God, whom, is omnipotent and all knowing, must be the most fucked up and corrupt person in the universe because he is the most knowledgeable. Boom. Drop the mic or whatever the fuck you want to drop. A jaw or panties. Whatever. I think, no I just fucking proved via logic and reason that God is indeed the Devil or Satan and Religion is for idiots and the evil and basically shitty human beings that dont intuitively know right from wrong or how to be a good person. I don't like religion and I just showed via infallible logic that God is Asshole and according to Hank Moody, God Hates Us All. Californication is my favorite show and I admire Mr. Moody who, is a poor man's version of Charles Bucowski also like Chuck Pallanuk.... Writer of Fight Club, Doomed and Damned. God is the alpha and the omega. He is the dual personality psychopath that George Carlin mentions in his insanely funny stand up bit. To paraphrase, God give you ten things you can't do. And if you do any of those ten things you will go to a place of fire and torture and damnation and complete hell, working with Tessa at the DMV for all eternity, but..... HE LOVES YOU. God is some twisted fucked that says look but don't touch, touch but don't taste, taste but don't swallow. If you're The Jizz Stain than you're fucked because she always swallowed and I appreciated that because waste not want not, right... Anyway, I am sure that I have offended most people o the planet right now and that's ok. My goals is to get people to think about the world around us. Think about what is happening to me and that not one person gives a fuck to help me. Not one human has come to assist me. Everyone has been paid off by Jimbo and accepted bribes to allow this to occur. How could God exist when something this fucked up is the norm and just simply ignored because well shit, I am entertaining and it isn't you, in my place. Well fuck you. All of you. Fuck you. Thanks for being decent human beings and offering help to one that so clearly needs it. Happy fucking Holidays. Fuck you.

The guys ring in the New Year with Hank Moody and two goddesses. Or was it just some really good acid? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-manopause-show/message
We live in a world caught between two extremes. In one breath, we eschew and vilify masculinity and traditionally “manly” virtues, labeling them as “toxic” and detrimental to society. Yet in another, we revel in them. Subconsciously pining for a resurgence in traditional masculinity. We are enamored with the classically masculine archetypes that proliferate our favorite movies, books, and TV shows (think Jon Snow, Don Draper, Hank Moody, and Captain America). The blood in our veins rips at the sight of a vicious knockout in the UFC and, as we watch the victor leap to the top of the cage with his arms held high in the air, we can’t help but imagine ourselves standing in his place…the taste of blood on our lips, the deafening roar of the crowd filling our ears, and the inner confidence of knowing that we are capable of handling ourselves in conflict. Yet all of our imagining does little to change the way we feel and show up in life. Despite our desire to “be the man”, to feel strong, accomplished, and powerful…our desires are left unmet. We are not the hero of our lives so we allay our growing sense of emasculation by watching other hero’s through a steady stream of action movies, video games, and extreme sports. The reason is simple… Men today are lost. In the famous words of Bob Dylan, “The times, they are a-changing.” And modern men have failed to evolve with the changing times. As feminism has given rise to unprecedented equality men are faced with a growing and inescapable sense of obsolescence. Men aren’t needed in the way that we once were and, our seeming lack of utility has left men wondering, “What the hell am I supposed to do now?” We no longer have clear roles in society and men all over the world want to know how to be more masculine and even if it’s okay. And today, I'm going to give you the answers you've been looking for.

David Duchovny may be swooned over as the hunky special agent Fox William Mulder in The X-Files and Hank Moody in Californication, but it should be noted—and, in our opinion, more widely known—that he is also an accomplished novelist. Yes, novelist. In fact, he has published three novels with the highly esteemed publisher Farrar, Straus, and Giroux since 2015. A fourth novel, called Truly Like Lightning and publicly revealed for the first time on this episode, is in the works.Primarily known for his acting—which also includes a well-known, ahead-of-its-time role, in the early ’90s, as the trans FBI agent Denise Bryson on Twin Peaks—Duchovny has carved out a name for himself as a screenwriter, director, producer, and musician, too. With an extensive literary pedigree—his father, Amram, was a “closet” writer until late in his life, when he published the novel Coney—Duchovny graduated with a B.A. in English from Princeton in 1982 and began (though never finished) a comparative literature Ph.D. at Yale. His mastery across both dramatic and comedic acting, as well as his prolificity in writing and music, is impressive in its breadth and wide-ranging in its subject matter. Less than a decade ago, Duchovny began singing and playing guitar, and in 2015, nearly 30 years into his film and television career, he released his first album, Hell or Highwater. That same year, he also published his first novel, Holy Cow. Since then, he has released a second album, Every Third Thought (2018), and published two more books, Bucky F*cking Dent (2016) and Miss Subways (2018). Now, at age 59, Duchovny’s creative energy continues apace across all these mediums—acting, writing, music—with his next novel soon to come out and plans to turn Bucky F*cking Dent into a film.On this episode of Time Sensitive, Duchovny speaks with Spencer Bailey about novel writing, the need to better understand proposed solutions for the climate crisis, his role as Denise in Twin Peaks, and the various twists and turns of his multifaceted life and career.
I said something silly about three different fictional characters whose style I really dig -- Rusty Cohle, Hank Moody, and Gregory House -- just to answer a question to fill in a box, as we do all too often in this age of exponentially increasing alienation, and before I knew it, for my cavalier crime, I was expected to elaborate further, a newly initiated albeit reluctant expert on the matter with the presumption of sagacity where there is none.

Have you ever watched Californication? This is by far the best TV show for aspiring seducers. Hank Moody knows how to talk to girls and he has perfected the art of not caring what other people think of him. Today I want to show you how you can become more like Mr. Moody and less like Charlie Runkle, his masturbating agent. I break down what Hank does and says that makes girls chase him wherever he goes. I included some of his life philosophies in my book: https://www.globalseducer.com/rise-of-the-phoenix/
Matt reflects on the concept of the alpha male (and alpha female, briefly) as he examines the difference between what an alpha is and what popular culture, including the movies, wants us to believe an alpha is.
Paul opens this episode contemplating bachelorhood. He saw a 40-year-old Hank Moody type drive by the other day, alone in the car. The guy had a grey t-shirt and stubble, and looked as though he hadn’t a care in the world. Standing on the sidewalk, Paul wondered whether the man was a carefree bachelor or, in fact, a bedraggled husband and father, stealing a few moments of solitude from his family. The weird thing about 40 is that a guy can legitimately be the carefree, exciting bachelor, or the responsible family man; either lifestyle is possible. On that division line there are trade-offs, profound ones. Bachelor life is cool and it’s exciting to be footloose and fancy-free. But, at 40, a single guy may not be part of standard society and he can become marginalised. The other side of the bachelor coin is loneliness and isolation. Peter and Paul then discuss the idea of Intact Families (nuclear family) versus Broken Families (divorced) and why society holds up the enduring nuclear family as the preferred model. Even the word “broken” implies problems, though the statistics make clear that children of divorce are not necessarily disadvantaged, provided the father remains present. We discuss the plight of a friend who “likes getting married, not being married” and has therefore been to the altar five times. He’s a member of the dubious 1/32nd club. Pete makes the case that divorce can benefit women stuck in abusive relationships but that, equally, it allows men to discard older women in favour of pretty young things. Paul asks if marriage is passé. Marriage is still the default destination for heterosexual (and, increasingly, homosexual) couples but it suffers from several problems. Implicit in the marriage arrangement is the notion that a woman is property, an adjunct to the man. In fact, in the old days, a woman who married Mr. John Simpson became Mrs. John Simpson. It was only after hard-won emancipations that women retained their given names in marriage, to become, let’s say, a Mrs. Sue Simpson. Further independence saw women hyphenating to Mrs. Sue Simpson-Lennard and finally, today, some married women retain their maiden names: Mrs. Sue Lennard who is married to Mr. John Simpson. Finally, the men discuss Paul’s father’s dictum that “A bachelor is the most honest type of man.” In other words, a bachelor is not bound by decorum. He can speak his mind and manage his own PR. He’s got nothing at stake, no one to offend. A man in a relationship checks his behaviour because there’s potential fallout from his girlfriend or wife. This reminds Paul of the Vince Vaughn movie, The Break-Up, in which Vaughn begs his friends to side with him in a disagreement. They all abandon him, each fearing the retribution that will later come from their wife or girlfriend. Vaughn is an isolated man. The unspoken price of society is that the individual loses freedoms as he surrounds himself with others. He is restricted, muzzled, compromised. We speak here of freedoms of expression, but there are many others. However, isolation is very painful for the human species. For mere survival, and for the richness which companionship brings, we agree to limit our autonomy. In many of our relationships, truth is less important than harmony.
This episode of DXP is light on serious content but heavy on verse, so if you’re uncomfortable with two grown men taking turns citing poetry back and forth, best to move along. Before we get to that, however, we reminisce about the hard-hitting episodes of our favorite ‘80s TV shows and take a voice mail about Alfred Lloyd Tennyson. We then commiserate with another caller about the worst (or most awesome) excuse to cut a date short. We take some time to discuss the controversial actions of Colin Kaepernick, a man so unpatriotic he has the audacity to protest authority and the abuse of power (the founding fathers would be so ashamed). Our “Dick Move, God” segment explores the plight of a woman pimped out then cast aside (by another woman, no less), and Christian’s bieber involves a lot of math, while Jason’s demonstrates that he watches too many movies. Also, only Hank Moody can reference fingerbanging a cat and it be funny.

You don't know me very well, but if you get me started I have a tendency to go on and on about how hard the writing is for me. But this, this is the hardest thing I ever had to write. There is no easy way to say this so I'll just say it, I met someone. It was an accident, I wasn't looking for it, I wasn't on the make it was a perfect storm, she said one thing, I said another and the next thing I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life in the middle of that conversation. Now there's this feeling in my gut that she might be the one. She's completely nuts in a way that makes me smile, highly neurotic, a great deal of maintenance required. She is you Karen. That's the good news. The bad news is that I don't know how to be with you right now, and that scares the shit out of me. Because if I am not with you right now I have this feeling we'll get lost out there. It's a big bad world full of twist and turns and people have a way of blinking and missing the moment. The moment that could of changed everything. I don't know what's going on with us and I can't tell you why you should waste a leap of faith on the likes of me. But damn you smell good, like home and you make excellent coffee that's got to count for something, right? Call me!I'm faithfully yours,Hank Moody第二封情书是一个印度男孩子写给心爱的女生的信。

Woody welcomes back Kyle Longsdorf & Brad McNary for some comedy gold. Anytime you can put Brad and Kyle on the mic some genius will follow. THE EPISODE IN A NUTSHELL: Zoe Saldana is the queen of weird, hot, ass kicking aliens - Hank Moody makes his way to the X-Files. Why does Scully keep taking the asshole back - Bones spurs.
I årets första BBpodd gästar Blåvitts tränare Jörgen Lennartsson programmet. The cast discusses David Duchovny directing the season 7 premiere episode.
David Duchovny joins host Robin Milling to discuss his new movie Phantom where he portrays an extremist KGB agent aboard a Soviet submarine during the Cold War. David tells Robin no acting was required as far as maneuvering through the tight enclosed spaces as they shot on an actual Russian sub from that era docked in San Diego harbor. Had it been out on the water and submerged, David says he might have felt claustrophobic and panicked. Duchovny, who is actually of Polish and Ukrainian descent jokes that his last name made him the only authentic Russian on board with co-stars Ed Harris and William Fichtner. He tells Robin his father actually dropped the 'h' from their last name because of constant mispronunciations and felt Italian for awhile with the last name 'Ducovny.' If the internet holds it together we’ll take our monthly look back at the game industry’s news headlines. Justin, Cole, Justin, and Christina determine if anything can hold its own against Nintendo console rumors and the PSN outage. Also, potatoes. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Ethan is apparently allergic to headlines, but that doesn’t stop us from reliving the highlights(?) of April. That is if Cole ever stops talking about Ally McBeal long enough to let us get to video games. Hang with the Threesomes though and you’ll get a terrifying eel story as well. The On the Spot question gets tactical and pits our good friends Batman and Ezio against one another. Of course our headlines can’t avoid the Nintendo console rumors or the fact that to this date, PSN is still down. There’s plenty of other news to talk about though with free Alice, scary RE6 rumors, and more non-gaming content on your Xbox 360, among others. We tease our next Horrible All Nighter so be on the lookout for a date and game selection for our next online gaming night. The Cursed say goodbye to Christina for now as she heads back to California, but not before she can profess her love for the lemons of Portal 2. I interviewed David Duchovny today about his role in Showtime's acclaimed "Californication" series. Duchovny did the interview while keeping his eye on the TV news -- the Southern California fires are rapidly encroaching on his home (he also noted, with some sad irony, that his latest movie is "Things We Lost In the Fire"). "Californication" has two episodes left -- one tonight (repeated this week) and then the season finale on Oct. 29. Duchovny talked about why he came back to television, how the difficult-to-describe Hank Moody character -- "he's objectionable" -- is such a challenge to play, how his wife, Tea Leoni, deals with him surrounded by naked women all day, the odd notion of Showtime trying to re-edit "Californication" without the sex and swearing and, yes, what's going on with the upcoming "X-Files" movie, among other topics.
Get a behind the scenes look at season 7 of Californication.
