Pastor Caleb M. Turner graduated from John D. Horn High School in Mesquite, TX. He received a track and field scholarship and attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Ok. Prior to graduating, Pastor Caleb enlisted in the U.S Air Force where he served in the Air Force Special Operations Command while stationed at Hurlburt Field, Fl. He also had the opportunity to serve his country while stationed at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan.He served in the Youth/Children's ministry at various churches during his stay in Florida. Upon completing his active duty commitment, he attended Moody Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL, and earned a Masters of Arts in Biblical Studies. Upon graduation he returned to Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church where he served in the roles of Equipping/Teaching Pastor, Assistant Pastor and Co-Pastor. In 2023, he became the Senior Pastor of Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church.Pastor Caleb has served in various roles within the Southern Baptist Convention. He is currently a trustee for the North American Mission Board and chairman of the executive board for the SBTC, becoming both the youngest to ever serve as chairmen as well as the first African-American. Matthew Ciccarello is retired Air Force. He did 21 years of active duty, which included flying tankers, U-28's, C-27's and more. Aside from being in the Air Force, Ciccarello also wrestled for the USAFA. He began his career at St. Edward's High School in Ohio before joining the Air Force. Ciccarello went on to become a 2x NCAA qualifier and was part of the first Air Force team to win an outright WAC championship in 1991. Ciccarello also coached at Air Force and was an amazing mentor to a lot of young men and women. We get to live vicariously through them on Marathon Monday as give their experiences from the Marathon Expo to the trip to the starting line, to the race itself. Dirk Anthony Dastrup, was born and raised in Benson, AZ. Dirk had a heart of gold. His passion was always to rescue others. He always had an ear for his friends' troubles. He loved the ocean. He had no problem swimming at 11 o'clock at night. He was learning to snorkel and scuba dive while stationed in Florida. His heart still belonged in the desert. He loved Bath Bombs. He had a dream to serve Veteran Families with a package of Bath Bombs to honor their service. Mom is following by taking up his cause:  Dirks Dream Bath Bombs Co.  Dirk suffered with Depression caused by Military Regulations. He was receiving counseling and medication, but to no avail. It wasn't any source of help.  Dirk was 22 years old. He left behind his mom, his step father, his 6 siblings and father. This week's guest is Kathy Maresca (Porch Music, Touch Point Press, October 2022) In her debut novel, set in 1950's Gainesville Florida, Kathy utilized stories from her Seminole family history to tap into a story of racial inequities, Southern culture, country music, and religious hypocrisy. Her research included not only books and museums, but also her own memories of working at Six Gun Territory, a local theme park, and absorbing the rhythm of Native American dances. When it came to marketing, her most effective tool turned out to be contests, where she used her awards to publicize her book. Her least effective? A blog tour which failed to correctly target her ideal reader.    A native Floridian, Kathy Maresca grew up with a grandmother of Seminole heritage. Kathy served in the Air Force, working at the Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel and then in special operations at Hurlburt Field, Florida. She edited for the University of Florida and taught English, journalism, and drama. While she was teaching, Kathy became ill with trigeminal neuralgia. She then earned a master's degree, became credentialed as a rehabilitation counselor, and served as the Director of Patient Services for the Trigeminal Neurgalgia Association. Kathy recently finished her second novel, Sky Kiss, and is working on a prequel to Porch Music. She has been a Guardian ad Litem and has taught classes for a prison fellowship ministry. Colonel Glen R. Shilland assumed the duties of United States Air Attaché to the Republic of Korea in 2019.Colonel Shilland entered the Air Force as a Distinguished Graduate of Officer Training School. In his first assignment as a satellite operations officer at Colorado Springs, Colorado, he performed command and control for surveillance, weather, and navigation spacecraft. He became a B-52H navigator and bombardier at Minot, North Dakota, and volunteered as an Air Liaison Officer, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky—deploying twice in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM with the 5th Special Operations Forces and the 101st Airborne Division Headquarters. He has been a B-52H instructor, flight commander, and deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as Assistant Director of Operationsin the 23d Expeditionary Bomb Squadron and 5th Operations Support Squadron.He then served as the Strategic Plans Branch Chief at Air Force Global Strike Command Headquarters at Barksdale, Louisiana. After that, he was Commander of the 505th Combat Training Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida, in charge of 120 military, civilian, and contractor personnel supporting worldwide joint and combined operational-level air component command and control exercises. William Walter joined the U.S. Air Force in 1976. Two years later he arrived at Hurlburt Field in Florida for AC-130 gunship training. Over the next couple of decades, his serice in Air Force special operations would place him on missions from Operation Eagle Claw to rescue U.S. hostages in Iran to Operation Just Cause in Panama to Operation Desert Storm, among several others.In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles," CMSgt. Walter vividly describes what makes serving aboard AC-130 gunships special and why those who serve there almost never leave. He then takes us inside the unsuccessful mission to Iran in 1980 and what the role of the AC-130's was supposed to be. He also explains the assignment for the gunship crews in rescuing medical students in Grenada in 1983.Much of this conversation centers around Walter's role during Operation Just Cause in December 1989, the effort to seize Rio Hato airfield, and what that combat was really like. Finally, he shares what the AC-130 crews were tasked with in the Gulf War, Somalia, and Bosnia. And he shares the tragic stories of teams lost in Iraq and near Somalia.

Command posts were where one watched, planned, and executed operations – not become player in one.One of the defining characteristics early in the Russo-Ukrainian War was the high loss rate of Russian General Officers from enemy action. Part of this was due to the top-down traditions in the Russian Army that required direct, forward, and in person direction and guidance – but a significant part of that was the Ukrainian military's reaching out to eliminate senior leadership where they led the fight - their command posts.As precision long range conventional fires and the ISR that supports them become more common on even the most primitive battlefield, is it time for the USA and her allies to reconsider their own reliance on large, static, and “noisy” command posts?Using an article he co-authored in the March issue of the US Army's “Military Review” titled “The Graveyard of Command Posts” as a starting point for our conversation, our guest this Sunday for the full hour from 5-6pm Eastern will be Lt. My guest today is Air Force Retired Lt Col Sean Masterson. Sean grew up in Dufer, OR. He graduated high school in 1993, then enlisted in the Air Force later that year. After completing Basic training, he attended tech school at Sheppard AFB as a C-130 engine mechanic. He first assignment was with the 9th Special Operations Squadron at Eglin AFB, FL. In 1996, he exited active duty through the Palace Chase program and joined a National Guard unit at Fairchild AFB, WA. During this time, Sean attended the University of Idaho and enrolled in the school's R.O.T.C. program. He graduated in 2001 with a Psychology degree and was commissioned as a 2Lt Space and Missile Officer. Over the next 18 years, Sean moved from Active Duty to the Reserves then to an AGR position. He finished his career as the Director of Operations for the 26th Space Aggressor Squadron at Peterson AFB, CO, then as the Commander, 926 Operations Group, Detachment 1 at Hurlburt Field, FL. He retired in 2019.

During his career he has been assigned to various positions within the MTL and Flight Attendant career fields to include, Squadron Master of Drill And Ceremonies, Wing Transition Flight MTL, Flight Attendant Element Leader, Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of Unit Training, 89 Operation Group NCOIC of Awards & Special Projects, NCOIC of Squadron Awards and Decorations, C-32/C-40 Special Missions Flight Attendant, Special Missions Instructor Flight Attendant. Major Friedman is a highly decorated Officer in the United States Air Force, currently serving as Commander of the Special Tactics Training Squadron, Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, Florida. He originally received his commission in 2000 as a United States Marine Corps Officer and later transferred into the Air Forces elite as a Special Tactics Officer—aka Combat Controller— operating exclusively in the Special Operations community.Major Friedman has served four combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terrorism. His personal decorations include three Bronze Stars (one with Valor), a Meritorious Service Medal, three Commendation Medals, three Achievement Medals and the Air Force Combat Action Medal. He is a sought after speaker with expertise in War and Leadership as well as Spiritual Development and Spiritual Formation. He is an emerging leader spearheading a movement to bring hope and healing to men, women and families dealing with the scars of war.In April 2010, Major (then Captain) Friedman, under the direct leadership of four-star General Stanley McChrystal, deployed as the lead Joint Terminal Attack Controller to the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan. This region was dubbed the “Valley of Death” as 44 US servicemen died there and hundreds were wounded. Captain Friedman was tasked with defending US forces during the closure of the Korengal Combat Outpost. While under direct and indirect hostile fire, he engaged multiple Taliban fighters with close air support which resulted in killing and wounding over 40 enemy and destroying several fighting positions– to include the famous Restrepo during final extraction.The motto "First There," reaffirms the Combat Controller's commitment to undertaking the most dangerous missions behind enemy lines. The mission of a combat controller is to deploy, undetected, into combat and hostile environments to establish assault zones or airfields, while simultaneously conducting air traffic control, fire support, command and control, direct action, counter-terrorism, foreign internal defense, humanitarian assistance and special reconnaissance in the joint arena. Combat controllers can infiltrate via combat diving and parachuting including military freefall and possess unique skills in demolition and the lethal joint terminal attack control qualification. All these skills Major Friedman has successfully mastered.In addition to being active duty in the Air Force, Major Friedman serves as an Executive Producer for Surrender, a faith-based film which follows true-life stories of seven elite combat warriors representing four branches of the US Special Operations Command.He quotes the Department Of Defense statistic that on average, 22 veterans commit suicide daily. Major Friedman is gravely concerned about the many who are suffering the effects of war, from self-destruction to self-elimination. Surrender highlights these challenges and shares messages of hope to the “hurting heroes of our country.” This platform includes suggestions of what we, as Americans, can do to support veterans fighting this epidemic of suicide and other effects as casualties of war.In 2011 Major Friedman and his wife Dayna, established SOF Missions, a faith-based humanitarian missions organization. Teams have been led both domestically and internationally to Brazil, Haiti, Peru, Philippines, Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica.The organization has responded to several natural disasters deploying experts to aid those in need. SOF Missions has served an estimated 16,000 people through construction, medical clinics, schools and orphanages, as well as through food and supply distribution.

Major "AT" is an A-10C Instructor Pilot and Intelligence Formal Training Instructor.  AT enlisted in the Air Force in the Sumer of 1998.  After Basic Military Training, he entered the Pararescue Indoctrination and completed the demanding 18 month training pipeline.  He graduated the Pararescue Apprentice Course, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, in July of 2000 and was assigned to the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Florida.  There he quickly competed upgrade training and gained experience through joint exercises, and real-world missions.  Immediately after September 11, 2001, he deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM where flew over 80 combat sorties, logged more than 2,400 hours of Combat Search and Rescue alert, and was credited with five lives saved following the Taliban Prison uprising in Mazar-I-Sharif, Afghanistan in November 2001.  It was at this time that Major AT finished his degree Magna Cum Lauda, and began fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming an Air Force Officer and Fighter Pilot.  Accepted simultaneously to active duty and national guard flight training programs, Major AT chose to join the Idaho Air National Guard in 2007.  He then attended the Academy of Military Science finishing Distinguished Graduate and receiving a commission.  Next, he attended the prestigious Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, gaining his pilot wings in September of 2009.Military Deployments: OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (INFINITE JUSTICE) -2001OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM-2003OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM-HORN OF AFRICA-2003OPERATION IRAQI FREEOM -2004OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM -2012OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE – 2016OPERATION RESOLUTE SUPORT – 2020Listen for more!Lets Go!

Please enjoy Preston's conversation with Command Chief Master Sergeant Greg Smith on the evolution of Special Operations Forces. Command Chief Master Sergeant Gregory A. Smith is the tenth command senior enlisted leader, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill AFB, Florida. He assumed the position on July 11, 2019. Chief Smith entered the U.S. Air Force in 1990 as an aircraft armament systems specialist. His initial assignment was with the 3246th Test Wing, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. In 1993, Chief Smith was reassigned to the 355th Fighter Squadron, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska where he served as a weapons load crew member on A/OA-10 aircraft. He completed multiple deployments to the pacific theater. Chief Smith was selected for special duty as an AC-130H/U aerial gunner in 1996. He served as lead, instructor and evaluator gunner with the 4th Special Operations Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Florida. He also served as the superintendent of Wing Strategic Plans with the 16th Special Operations Wing. In September 2001, Chief Smith was part of the first team to deploy following the terror attacks on 9/11. He established the first forward operating base and then deployed to Pakistan where he established a joint interagency forward operating location. In 2009, Chief Smith became the first course director and chief of academics for the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy. In June 2012, Chief Smith was selected for command chief master sergeant for the 58th Special Operations Wing where he oversaw the training and readiness for special operations and combat rescue personnel. In 2013, Chief Smith was selected as the command senior enlisted leader for Special Operations Command Europe where he led special operations forces through multiple contingencies in Ukraine, Turkey, and Syria. Chief Smith became the command senior enlisted leader for NATO Special Operations Headquarters in 2015. In this role, he synchronized Allied special operations forces for employment in support of NATO missions across the globe. Chief Smith’s last assignment was the command chief master sergeant, Air Force Special Operations Command.

Crews from Coast Guard Station Destin were searching Tuesday night Oct 5 2019 for an unidentified Air Force airman from the 24th Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field who apparently had a mishap while exiting a C-130 four-engine aircraft over the Gulf of Mexico earlier in the day. Today's story: Secretary of the Air Force Deputy Chief Information Officer, William Marion shared the soon-to-come changes to the Air Force's Cyber community at a Cyber Personnel all-call at Hurlburt Field, Florida.

The boys welcomed Jarred Taylor, the CEO of Article 15 Clothing, Business Manager of Black Rifle Coffee Company, Leadslinger Whiskey, Co-host of Drinkin' Bros Podcast and Producer of movies. Sounds like a lot of hats doesn't it?? Well it is, and he handles it all. JT grew up in the Pacific Northwest. After graduating from North Kitsap High School, he shipped off to Air Force basic training to become a Munitions Systems Apprentice. He wanted something much more combat-related and opted to go through the process to become a Tactical Air Control Party Specialist (TACP). After graduating from the TACP Apprentice course, JT went on to the U.S. Army Airborne School and SERE, and finally got stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, at the 14th Air Support Operations Squadron. He deployed to OIF in 2005 in support of the 18th ABN Corps, 172nd Stryker BDE, and the 3rd Special Forces Group. While there, JT supported combat operations on the streets of Mosul, Iraq, acting as the ground liaison between the Army and the Air Force engaging the enemy with air to ground munitions. Two years later, JT deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, in support of the 82nd Airborne Division. During that deployment, he earned an AFCOM/Valor device for heroic actions on the battlefield. Later in his Air Force career, he became a TACP tech school instructor while stationed at Hurlburt Field, FL. There, JT conducted over 3500 hours of instruction and graduated roughly 350 brand new TACP students during his four-year tour. Upon leaving the schoolhouse, he was assigned to the 7th Air Support Operations Squadron at Fort Bliss, TX. (-Source- blackriflecoffee.com) Jarred starts off talking of how he met the fellas from Nitro Circus including Ringleader, Travis Pastrana. All about how Travis text him one day and asked him to fly out to California on a whim. So he did. He ended up hanging with guys like Bucky Lasek and more. Pretty cool if you ask us. Jarred said it all was pretty much a whirlwind. He drank with Travis until about 3am and then flew out the next morning. Travis text him a few days later and their friendship has been strong ever since. Jarred talks about how he became involved with Mat Best and how they started doing videos together in 2013 and that's a big reason why all of this had started in the first place. When the boys made the movie "Range 15", Jarred had the idea of creating a Podcast to help promote the movie. So they formed the "Drinkin Bros Podcast" together with Evan Hafer (CEO of Black Rifle Coffee Company), and Ross Patterson (Actor, Author and past HWH Guest). Jarred talks a lot about the guests they have on, why they have certain appearances and their brand new set for the show. The boys all discuss how being in a role of a large podcast, and having a large audience is a big responsibility that can either make or break you. Jarred says that if you turn or say, one thing or another, that may go against your audience, you're done for. We had a blast with Jarred.
