In the first half, Jeffrey Smith, a prominent advocate against genetically modified organisms (GMOs), shared his deep concerns about the technology and its implications for public health and the environment. He recounted his initial interest in GMOs, sparked by a 1996 lecture from a genetic engineer who warned of the inherent dangers of the technology. Smith emphasized that the release of GMOs into the environment is irreversible, as they self-replicate, potentially affecting future generations. He noted that while awareness of GMOs spiked around 2012, the conversation has since diminished, leading to the rise of "stealth GMOs" that consumers unknowingly ingest.Further, he expressed alarm over the new generation of genetic engineering techniques, particularly CRISPR, which he believes poses even greater risks. Governments are being convinced to deregulate gene editing, allowing individuals to buy CRISPR gene editing labs and create their own GMOs. Such deregulation could lead to unforeseen and potentially disastrous ecological consequences, he stated.Smith pointed to a correlation between the rise of GMOs and an increase in various health issues, stating, "85% of the people we surveyed said they had digestive problems that got better when they switched to non-GMO and organic foods." Speaking of specific products, he was critical of the Impossible Burger, which uses a form of synthetic biology to engineer soy and microorganisms to produce a patty that has the taste and texture of beef. But on a positive note, he reported a recent victory for advocates when a federal court ruled against lax regulations by the USDA. "The turning a blind eye to all, virtually all, GMOs, is no longer allowed," he remarked about the ruling.-------Author and filmmaker Richard Martini uses hypnotherapy, mediumship, and guided meditations to access information from other realms or what he calls the "Flipside." In the latter half, he reported on what deceased people are saying, as he aims to uncover truths about both the afterlife and unsolved mysteries, as well as his interviews with alien beings. Speaking of his research into Amelia Earhart and the mystery of her disappearance, he said there are eyewitness accounts of her life after her plane crashed. She lived through the crash and was taken to Saipan (near Guam in the Pacific) and incarcerated for seven years, he said, and eventually was buried at a Catholic cemetery on the island. As explored in his book "Close Encounters of the Flipside Kind," he delved into what he's learned about aliens. He recounted how he facilitated a meditation with a British podcaster who admitted to having a childhood abduction experience, and this allowed Martini to interview an alien "Grey." As to why they abduct people and take biological samples, the alien told him they were taking the genetic material to a planet where the inhabitants could no longer procreate. Such agreements were made with the abductees before their earthly incarnations, in a kind of "Red Cross" cosmic collaboration, Martini further explained. The reason aliens may appear cold or unemotional, the Grey revealed, is that they are a form of "artificial intelligence" created by higher entities.Martini also touched on his communication with the late "sleeping prophet" Edgar Cayce, who told him that in his accurate medical advice for clients he was aided by a council of seven doctors from different dimensions while in his trance state.

Hotel Bar Sessions

Should we eat meat?Humans have been eating other animals for close to 2.5 million years--a fact that is evidenced by cut traces on fossil animal bones, surviving stone tools, and analyses of our ancestors' teeth. Does this evolutionary fact render meat-eating physiologically necessary and morally justifiable? Our ancestors did a lot of things to survive; is that sufficient reason to continue the practice? How they obtained this meaty source of protein was arguably very different from the industrial practices of animal agriculture that are justifiably criticized for their cruelty to non-human sentient creatures and their contribution to the global climate crisis. Can we as a species continue to eat meat? Or in doing so are we literally eating ourselves out of house and home? What about lab-grown Franken-meat, which Governor Ron DeSantis recently made illegal in the state of Florida? Is lab-grown meat a solution, or does it just feed the problem? How and why is the unassuming "Impossible Burger" now a subject of the culture wars? When Impossible Foods released its first product, the Impossible Burger, in 2016, it was met with equal parts curiosity, skepticism, and excitement. This plant-based “meat that bleeds” was seen as a novelty item. Today, Impossible Foods' expanded line of offerings, from sausages to chicken nuggets to Italian meatballs, can be found in most American grocery stores at a price that rivals traditional meats. The founder of Impossible Foods is Pat Brown, MD, PhD, a physician and molecular biologist who, after seeing the detrimental impact of animal farming on deforestation, water pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions, made it his ambitious mission to create a sustainable food system by reducing our reliance on animal agriculture. He set out to develop plant-based alternatives to meat that not only matched, but surpassed the taste and nutritional value of traditional meats, harnessing biochemistry to recreate the sensory experience and culinary qualities of meat at a molecular level. In this episode, Dr. Brown joins us to share his early career path from clinical pediatrics to biochemistry research, along the way inventing the DNA microarray, now an essential laboratory tool used to measure the expression levels of thousands of genes. He then discusses the origins of Impossible Foods, the scientific breakthroughs that have propelled its success, and how he hopes to inspire a cultural shift towards more sustainable eating habits and ensure a healthier planet for future generations. In this episode, you'll hear about: 2:41 - How Dr. Brown was initially drawn to a career in medicine 7:54 - Why Dr. Brown chose to transition from clinical work to biomedical research 14:05 - How Dr. Brown's drive to tackle the biggest problems of humanity led to the creation of Impossible Foods24:19 - The scientific approach that Impossible Foods takes in creating its products30:17 - Whether plant-based meats are too highly processed38:40 - Dr. Brown's vision for the future of food Visit our website www.TheDoctorsArt.com where you can find transcripts of all episodes. If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe, rate, and review our show, available for free on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Is heme just an innocent bystander in the link between meat intake and breast cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure? Let's take a look at heme's carcinogenic effects.

Dr. Berg’s Healthy Keto and Intermittent Fasting Podcast

It's no secret that plant-based meats have been marketed as healthier and more environmentally friendly alternatives to real meat. However, these claims are not entirely accurate. While plant-based meats contain some nutrients, they simply can't compare to those found in real meat, such as protein, B vitamins, iron, selenium, and zinc. Plant-based meats may try to replicate these nutrients through added chemicals and synthetic ingredients, but they can never match the natural composition of real meat. The production process of plant-based meats involves using chemicals and additives that may pose health risks. For example, the Impossible Burger contains yeast that creates a synthetic version of the blood protein heme from soy. This ingredient is classified as a color additive and hasn't been thoroughly tested for safety. Regarding environmental impact, plant-based meats are often touted as a more sustainable option than real meat. However, they require a lot of resources to produce, including water and land. If we look at California almonds, they use ten times more fresh water than cattle. On the other hand, real meat production uses resources that would otherwise be wasted. For instance, 85 percent of livestock feed comes from non-human edible materials, including corn stalks, beet pulp, and soybean plants. Cows play a crucial role in maintaining the health of our land. They can graze on terrain unsuitable for growing crops, and their manure is a natural fertilizer for plants. Removing cows from the equation would negatively impact our food production system. One of the main arguments against real meat is the methane emissions from livestock. When looking at the big picture, these emissions are roughly 2.7 percent, which isn't significant enough to make a real difference. These emissions are also part of a natural cycle. Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in the soil, which is then consumed by livestock and released as methane. This methane eventually breaks down to become carbon dioxide again, completing the cycle.

Ron DeSantis wants to keep lab-grown meat out of Florida.  Over the last several months, Florida legislators have been quietly working to ban — and criminalize — the production and sale of cell-cultivated meat across the state, via the introduction of two bills, House Bill 1071 and Senate Bill 1084. On February 6, the state's House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 1084, which now sits on DeSantis' desk awaiting a signature. And if his previous comments are any indication, he will be pulling out his pen soon.  "I know the Legislature is doing a bill to try to protect our meat," DeSantis said in February while visiting the South Florida State College Hardee Campus, "You need meat, and we're going to have meat in Florida." DeSantis added, "We're not going to have fake meat. That doesn't work." Cell-cultivated meat, to be clear, differs from traditional veggie burgers and meat alternatives like Impossible Burgers. As the Congressional Research Service (CRS) defines, Cell-cultivated meat "is developed in a lab, grown from a sample of animal cells that does not require the slaughter of animals." The development of cell-cultivated meat, the CRS explained, happens in five steps: the biopsy of animal cells, cell banking, cell growth, harvesting, and food processing. It's an industry that has heavy oversight in the U.S. by both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  As the CRS noted, there are about 150 companies around the world involved in the cell-cultivated meat industry, 43 of which are based in the U.S. Of those 43, just two companies, Good Meat and Upside Food, have FDA approval in the U.S. While it's still a relatively small industry, it's one with major financial backing. According to the CRS, some $3 billion has been invested in its growth via private capital, and an additional $5 million has been issued via the National Science Foundation in research grants, along with an additional $12 million in grants by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Florida, however, isn't alone in its pursuit to block the production and sale of this type of meat. As Fast Company reported, Tennessee is considering a similar bill that would impose a $1 million fine for selling cultivated meat. Alabama also passed a bill to ban the sale and manufacturing of it, making it a Class C felony. This means that if you're caught selling cell-cultivated meat there, you could wind up in prison for up to 10 years. And, as Food Dive reported, Texas also implemented legislation around how cultivated meat can be labeled and marketed.  More from this article can be found HERE. Ranchers Urge BLM To Incorporate Latest Science In New Sage Grouse Plans The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) and Public Lands Council (PLC) responded to the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) release of the updated greater sage grouse management plans. These plans will shape public land use across 10 different states and tens of millions of Western acres. After completing revisions to the plans in 2015 and again in 2019, the agency is currently amending 77 separate land use plans across the West, and could potentially designate millions of acres as new Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs). Despite this incredibly expansive scope, the BLM provided only 90 days to comment on the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and only 60 days to comment on proposed Areas of Critical Environmental Concern. Here is the background.  The sage grouse habitat has been declining across the West due to a variety of factors including catastrophic wildfires, urban development, and the spread of invasive grasses. As a result, more than half of the remaining prime sage grouse habitat exists on BLM acres. The pressures on sage grouse habitat vary from state to state, from ecosystem to ecosystem, and sometimes from county to county. One-size-fits-all conservation strategies are ineffective for this species. Habitat management must be tailored to local needs in order to achieve the best results for the bird. The expertise of local stakeholders, like federal grazing permittees, will be crucial for conserving the species. The Public Lands Council President and Colorado federal grazing permittee, Mark Roeber said years of research, including a very recent and comprehensive 10-year study, support the fact that managed livestock grazing is compatible and can actually benefit the bird. He went on to say the agency must look at the science, and leverage livestock grazing as a tool for strengthening the sagebrush steppe, preventing wildfire, and conserving this iconic species.” For Additional details check out the full article HERE   UPCOMING BULL SALES ANGUS CHAROLAIS HEREFORD GELBVIEH BALANCER RED ANGUS SIMMENTAL SIMANGUS   Miller Angus Farms: March 25, 2024, Watertown, South Dakota L 83 Ranch: March 26, 2024, Mandan, ND Vollmer Angus Ranch: April 2, 2024, Wing, North Dakota A & B Cattle:  April 4, 2024, Bassett, Nebraska Montgomery Ranch: April 14, 2024, Carrington, North Dakota Jorgensen Farms:  April 15, 2024, Ideal, South Dakota DLCC Ranch:  April 20, 2024, Pierz, Minnesota BULL SALE REPORT & RESULTS Churchill Cattle Company Van Newkirk Herefords Gardiner Angus Ranch Cow Camp Ranch Jungels Shorthorn Farms Ellingson Angus Edgar Brothers Angus Schaff Angus Valley Prairie Hills Gelbvieh Clear Springs Cattle Company CK Cattle Mrnak Hereford Ranch Frey Angus Ranch Hoffmann Angus Farms Topp Herefords River Creek Farms Upstream Ranch Gustin's Diamond D Gelbvieh Schiefelbein Farms Wasem Red Angus Raven Angus Krebs Ranch Yon Family Farms Chestnut Angus Eichacker Simmentals & JK Angus Windy Creek Cattle Company Pedersen Broken Heart Ranch Mar Mac Farms Warner Beef Genetics Arda Farms & Freeway Angus Leland Red Angus & Koester Red Angus Fast - Dohrmann - Strommen RBM Livestock Weber Land & Cattle Sundsbak Farms Hidden Angus Wheatland Cattle Company   FEATURING Derek Thompson NextGen Cattle Company https://www.nextgencattle.com/ @nextgencattle   Bryce Kelley Ritchey Livestock ID https://ritcheytags.com/ @RitcheyLivestockID   Kirk Donsbach: Stone X Financial https://www.stonex.com/   @StoneXGroupInc      John Fischer Stockmen's Livestock Exchange, Inc. http://www.gostockmens.com/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095025190101&sk=photos https://www.cattleusa.com/   Mark Van Zee  Livestock Market, Equine Market, Auction Time https://www.auctiontime.com/ https://www.livestockmarket.com/ https://www.equinemarket.com/ @LivestockMkt @EquineMkt @AuctionTime   Shaye Koester Casual Cattle Conversation https://www.casualcattleconversations.com/ @cattleconvos   Questions & Concerns From The Field? The new generation of veggie burgers do taste more like meat than their sawdust-leaning predecessors. And most agree that plant-based meat alternatives are a step in the right direction, considering the hefty impact that cattle have on the environment. But the Impossible Burgers and Beyond Meats of the world come with their own not-so-insignificant carbon … Continue reading Nithin Coca: The Impacts of Plant-Based Meats → This article and podcast Nithin Coca: The Impacts of Plant-Based Meats appeared first on Sea Change Radio.

Food for thought: the solution to our climate crisis already exists. In fact, it lies right under our feet.    It begins and ends with our SOIL - and we are honored to welcome a leader in the regenerative movement, John Roulac to explain why.    John is a powerhouse with a deeply caring heart and conscience. Serial entrepreneur, investor, climate activist, Roulac has sourced and formulated $1B in retail sales of organic superfoods (with Nutiva), served as executive producer of the film "Kiss the Ground” and upcoming “Common Ground” and has leveraged his success to found six non-profit organizations, including Agroforestry Regeneration Communities (ARC) and Forests Forever.   In this episode, John and Nitsa dive into an unfiltered dialogue around food security, sovereignty, soil cycles, how the regenerative model can be used to save small > large scale farms, failing businesses and ecosystems on the brink of collapse, the dangers of green/brain/washing, and why challenging the status quo is crucial.    Utmost respect & gratitude for you John!   CONNECT with our Guest John Roulac  Website | LinkedIn | IG | FB | Twitter | Substack    Host @nitsacitrine @soundfoodspace Subscribe to Mercurial Mail (our monthly newsletter)   MENTIONED Making America's Rivers Blue Again (John's article where he mentions Impossible Burger)  kisstheground.com Kiss the Ground Film Common Ground Film Kiss the Ground.earth Agroforestry Regeneration Nutiva Dr. Jonathan Lundgren study RFK Jr. Podcast with John Roulac   VENDANA SHIVA- SOIL NOT OIL  SWEETNESS OF THE EARTH: soundfood episode with Sarah and Ryland Engelhart Pharma's Culture War  Dr. Jonathan Lundgren study Wild planet foods sardines  Yassi Mazandi  Permaculture paradise institute  Professor Tyrone Hayes  A MACRO VIEW ON THE MICROBIOME | Strengthening our Inner + Outer Ecosystems through Diversity  The Sonnenburg Lab study on the Microbiome Wild planet foods sardines  NOURISHMENT This podcast is made possible by your donations and the symbiotic support of our partners:   Offer a donation to us here   LIVING LIBATIONS: enjoy 15% off all botanical beauty alchemy with this link https://livinglibations.com/soundfood (discount automatically applied)   MIKUNA: enter SOUNDFOODFAMILY at checkout for 25% off clean, single-sourced plant protein products Mikunafoods.com   LIVING TEA:  SOUNDFOOD for 10% off all tea nourishment livingtea.net   SUPERFEAST: enter CITRINE for 10% off our favorite tonic herbs + superfoods superfeast.com   OSEA: enter CITRINE for 10% off oseamalibu.com sea-to-skin magic   CHRISTY DAWN: 15NITSAC for 15% off farm-to-closet christydawn.com LAMBS: use code CITRINE for 10% off your EMF protective gear getlambs.com

Seafood provides nearly 20% of the animal protein humans consume globally. This growing source of protein is also rather healthy with many of our nutrient-rich foods coming from aquatic creatures. But already, the supply of our wild capture seafood has flattened, meaning that the vast majority of our global fisheries today are being overfished in an unsustainable manner. Fortunately, Finless Foods and other sustainable seafood startups are working to bring sustainability-driven innovation to the seafood space. With both plant-based and cell-cultured options, consumers are finally beginning to experience the taste and value of seafood alternatives that are better for our oceans and their inhabitants as well as our climate. In this episode, Chad Reed talks with Finless Foods' chief strategy officer Shannon Consentino-Roush about the past, present and future of the sustainable seafood movement and industry. Links: Finless FoodsArticle: World Tuna Day: How sustainable are tuna fisheries?Article: Wild seafood has a lower carbon footprint than red meat, cheese, and chicken, according to latest dataEpisode recorded: April 21, 2023Email your feedback to Chad, Gil, and Hilary at climatepositive@hasi.com or tweet them to @ClimatePosiPod.

He has served as the director of new media for The Humane League and the director of communications for Vegan Outreach, but now he's an independent advocate funded by individual donations. He's also a powerlifter — not something you usually associate with vegans. In this episode he tries to convince me to give up meat. You can listen to the episode right away in the audio player above (or on the right side of the player, click “Listen On” to add the Dishcast feed to your favorite podcast app — though Spotify sadly doesn't accept the paid feed). Absolutely hilarious.A listener dissents:I had to stop listening once it became clear that you and Chris seem to be of the opinion that the legacy media share equally with the 30-year-old disinformation industry in cleaving the American voters into hateful camps. While you did recognize that Rush was a pioneer in taking advantage of the abrogation of the Fairness Doctrine to voice his BS, you also blithely acknowledged that he was “talented entertainer.” Let's face facts: Adolph was full of hateful bile that led to the eventual destruction of Germany along with millions of innocents but the guy was really entertaining. The legacy media, for all of its faults and biases, is not equivalent to the collective disinformation industry. Wokeness does not equal lies, character assassination, conspiracy mongering, calls for the overthrow of the “deep state,” civil war, summary execution of suspected drug dealers, ad nauseam. Criticize the legacy media all you want, but don't equate them with Fox and its many copycats as part of the critique. Whataboutism is tiresome and lazy.If you want my view of the different kinds of media bias at play — and why the right is worse — this piece is a good overview. I make many distinctions. From a baseball fan:Are my ears playing tricks on me or did I just hear Chris Stirewalt attribute “Hit ‘em where they ain't” to Pee Wee Reese? If I did hear this, it's the worst piece of fake news this 72-year-old guy has heard on the Dishcast. Apparently that quote by Willie Keeler is commonly misattributed to Reese. Here's one more clip from the Stirewalt pod — on why the cult of Trump is so strong:Staying on the topic of Trump, a reader dissents:I was not planning to send you a second scathing email in two weeks, but here we are. Your latest column on Trump was surreal. “Guys, a wildfire is about to burn down all these houses. This is bad! But you must admit, the fire is beautiful! Look at the gracefully leaping orange-golden flames. Such flair and energy! It speaks to something deep inside me, I remember sitting by a campfire as a kid …“But yes, the fire is bad, so we must fight it using this beat-up old fire truck. God, I hate the truck! It's ugly and rusty, the paint is peeling, the engine makes a weird grinding noise, there's a coffee stain on the driver's seat. The truck is boring, just sitting there like a lump. No entertainment value at all! In a direct contrast between the fire and the truck, there will surely be some people who simply favor the shiny and pretty over the dull and old!“Anyway, uh, we ought to stop the fire before it burns down all these houses, so let's get inside this crappy truck, which I hate, and go fight the fire… even though the fire is lovely and exciting and fun to look at…” (you gaze into the flames, their reflection dancing in your eyes)I wan to insert that gif of Cher slapping Nick Cage's face in Moonstruck and yelling, “Snap out of it!” Yes, the fire truck certainly is beat-up and rusty, and I too wish for a newer and better model. But if you value the houses, and you recognize that they will burn unless enough people act, the right thing to say is, “Guys, let's get in the truck and go put out the f**king fire!”My core political objective right now is avoiding a second Trump term. How much clearer can I get? My concern with the loony left is both substantive on the issues, but also rooted in my view that they are empowering Trump, not weakening him. Another reader quotes me:“Trump is more likely than not returning to the White House as of now.” No offense, but have you not been paying attention for the last two years?
