Jeremy Adams Aquaman is the most exciting version of the character in many years. He's taking big comedic swings with Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner in Green Lantern. Both books have tremendous supporting players as sickkicks and vilians. We also get into the animated adaptation of Batman Knightfall which introduced Bane and Azreal in the early 90s for a signinficant chapter of the Bat Mythos. . Adams is writing the first film, and the flick gets it's premire next month at an animation festival in France.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Analysis The group discussed the movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, focusing on its handling of grief and the character development of Shuri. They analyzed how the film addressed the loss of Chadwick Boseman and explored Shuri's emotional journey, including her encounter with the ancestral plane where she saw Killmonger. The discussion also covered the film's cinematography, underwater scenes, and the character of Namor, including his comic book history and representation in the film. Namor and Atlantean Characters Discussion Andy discussed the character Namor from Marvel comics, explaining his solo nature and conflicts with other heroes like the Hulk and Doctor Strange. He detailed Namor's history with the Phoenix Force, which led to him flooding Wakanda and creating animosity with T'Challa. Andy also covered other Atlantean characters including Namora and Atuma, noting that Marvel made Namor's home city Tl'Chok rather than Atlantis to avoid competing with DC's Aquaman. The discussion concluded with a brief mention of Riri Williams as a new character in the film. Ironheart Character Development Discussion The group discussed the character Riri Williams/Ironheart from Marvel comics and the related TV series. They compared the character development between the comic origins in 2016 and the TV adaptation, noting how the contemporary setting and diverse writing room made the character more relatable and less problematic than older comic book characters. The discussion also touched on how the Chicago setting in the series helped connect viewers to the story, and they reflected on the character's growth from the TV series to the movie adaptation. Marvel Character Names and Costumes The group discussed character names and costumes in Marvel comics, particularly focusing on Namor and his attire. They noted that while Namor's costume evolved over time to include pants and a vest, it made more sense for him to be semi-naked given his aquatic setting. Tiffany expressed frustration with illogical character names and costumes in comics, suggesting she would like a job at Marvel to review character designs and names. The discussion concluded with Andy providing background on Namor's character development and complex nature as both a ruler and hero. Angela Bassett's X-Men Casting Discussion The group discussed Angela Bassett's performance in the Black Panther film and her potential casting as Storm in the X-Men franchise. They compared Bassett's portrayal to Halle Berry's earlier performance and discussed how Bassett would have been a better fit for the role due to her character's African heritage and background. The conversation also touched on Bassett's other notable roles, including Tina Turner in What's Love Got to Do with It and her performance in Waiting to Exhale.Thriller Drama Casting DiscussionThe group discussed potential casting ideas for a thriller drama featuring Viola Davis and Angela Bassett. Tiffany expressed strong enthusiasm for seeing these actors together in a suspenseful role, recommending that whoever writes the script needs to handle it well to justify casting such powerful performers. The conversation also touched on Viola Davis's acclaimed autobiography and Angela Bassett's recent role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with the group agreeing that Bassett's performance helped reintroduce audiences to her talent.

We're back for part two of our dive into Zack Snyder's Justice League, and this half is where the movie finally starts doing what Snyder does best: putting superheroes in ridiculously cool, overdramatic moments and letting them aura farm. We break down Superman's resurrection, Cyborg as the movie's almost-main character, Aquaman hanging out in nasty Gotham Harbor water, Lois Lane being wasted, and the bizarre Martian Manhunter reveal that feels stapled onto the movie after the fact. It's a chaotic conversation about the Snyder Cut's best moments, worst choices, future-universe setup that never paid off, and why the second half is somehow both awesome and deeply stupid.
In the third hour of the show: - Sports Headlines - Aquaman is a weak superhero - Rats Off A Ship
Jace and Rocky break down this week's DC releases including Supergirl #13, where Sophie Campbell's handling of Kara's trauma, Kandor's civil unrest and the Black Flame conflict leads to one of the biggest disagreements of the episode, Barbara Gordon Breakout #1 as the hosts debate Barbara willingly entering prison as part of Batman's larger Vandal Savage plan, Bleeding Hearts #4 with Dennis Camp continuing to humanize Polk while expanding the emotional divide between the zombies and humans through Rabbit and Mush, Emperor Aquaman #17 as Jarro makes a shocking decision involving the Starros that dramatically escalates Aquaman's cosmic status and creates major moral fallout, Action Comics #1098 with Mark Waid blending Silver Age Superboy storytelling and modern sensibilities through Mary Marvel, Booster Gold and Martian Manhunter learning more about Clark's origins, Fury of Firestorm #2 as Ronnie Raymond's darker trauma is contrasted against the classic heart-of-gold characterization that defines the hero, Green Lantern Corps #16 with Morgan Hampton expanding the Manhunters' plans to control the emotional spectrum while Aya, Parallax and the emotional entities become central to a massive cosmic power struggle, Absolute Martian Manhunter #11 as the series heads toward its conclusion with more psychological and reality-bending storytelling, and Absolute Batman #20 with discussion of the printing defects, retailer response, massive number of variant covers and continued teases surrounding Scarecrow and Robin. They also discuss the shutdown of Read Comics Online and the larger conversation surrounding comic piracy and affordability before covering this week's facsimiles, reprints and collected editions, ranking every book from the week and each giving their respective Book of the Week picks.
Show notes provided by Joe PelusoArthur Curry--AQUAMAN--The King of the Seven Seas, and the brunt of bad superhero jokes for decades. But that all came to an end last January 2025 when superstar writer Jeremy Adams took the reins of Storm (Aquaman 1960's seahorse? One of the reasons for the bad jokes.) and turned Aquaman into a badass! No more Mr. Nice Guy who just "talks to fish", but now a super strong, near invulnerable, transforming trident wielder who can manipulate water--and is now the avatar of the Blue. I don't think Raj of The Big Bang Theory would have a problem attending Stuart's annual New Year's party at the comic book store anymore going as Aquaman. The long journey that started in More Fun Comics #73 way back in 1941, has finally paid off in garnering the respect this character always deserved. Join your host James and Joe as they do--you should pardon the pun-- a deep dive into Arthur Curry's past, and his publishing history. Was he always a "C" list character? How important was the long, critically acclaimed run by the great Peter David to The Sea King's quest for respectability? Why is this new iteration of Aquaman referred to as The Dark Tide? And in this current run, who are the new friends and enemies that Aquaman meets as he journeys through the Blue to find hislost kingdom of Atlantis? Jeremy Adams and artist John Timms have crafted a jumping on point chapter that welcomes new readers and delights old fans. Joe is wondering if you're allowed to do a cartwheel in Arthur's throne room? There is energy, excitement, and fantastic adventure to be found on these gorgeously rendered pages by John Timms, and a deep look into the soul of an iconic hero made vibrantly relevant by Jeremy Adams. The jokes and put downs are OVER! This is a new no nonsense AQUAMAN for the 21st century. You have been warned.

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter, or as most comics fan know them as The Justice League. However, that wasn't always the case. In a post crisis world the Justice League of America was a much different group of heroes. It wasn't until writer Grant Morrison gathered the greatest heroes in the DC canon and put them together on one team to become the JLA. Join James and Chris as they head back to 1997 to talked about the first story in Grant Morrison's run New World Order.

Dave: Lobo #2 (Lee Bermejo) Chris: Narco #2 (Daniel Hillyard and Dave Stewart) Interview: Franklin Jonas - Out April 15, FOC March 23rd - Artist: h with Curt Pires co-writing You're stepping into Curt Pires' Lost Fantasy world—what excited you most about co-writing in an established universe, and how did you find your voice within it? As someone who works in music, where rhythm, pacing, and emotion are everything, did that background influence how you approached writing Fireborn—especially in terms of momentum, dialogue, or how scenes “flow” on the page? Aaron Hillburg is introduced as a “rich-kid failson,” which is such a loaded archetype—what made him the right entry point for a story that quickly becomes this massive, magical chase? The dragon egg bonding to Aaron is such a striking image—what did you want that relationship to represent, both visually and emotionally, as the series unfolds? Patrick Mulholland's art brings a kinetic, almost explosive energy to the concept—how closely did you collaborate on visual storytelling, especially with something as wild as a floating dragon egg? 11:10 Dark Reign war machine 11:45 Fear Itself This feels like a story about inheritance in more ways than one—family, power, responsibility—what themes were most important for you to explore through Aaron's journey? For readers who haven't touched Lost Fantasy before, how accessible is Fireborn as a jumping-on point, and what kind of experience were you aiming to deliver in issue #1? If Aaron had to survive in New York for 24 hours before the egg bonded to him, what's the most “failson” decision he'd make that would somehow make everything worse?

Show notes provided by JoeDC Comics has never shied away from telling BIG stories in their main titles. One of the very first was "The Search for Mera" in the spring of 1968 running through nine issues of the ongoing Aquaman book. A few years later at the start of The Bronze Age, "The Superman Sandman Saga" dropped, also running through nine issues of the hero's titular title. The flood gates were opened (sorry Aquaman) and what followedwere a spate of classic tales--"The New Teen Titans:The JudasContract", The L.S.H. "The Great Darkness Saga", "The Trial of TheFlash", and of course the entire Fourth World Saga--all in continuity, published in ongoing titles. And of course the dreaded "creature of the night", "the dark knight detective"--The Batman--was to have his share of these main-stream event books. Join hosts James, Chris, and Joe for a fun-filled closeexamination of one of Batman's multi-part ongoing events--"Batman Hush"! Starting in issue #609 and running through to issue #619 the mystery of HUSH graced the pages of Batman's book. Authored by Jeph Loeb(Batman:The Long Halloween" an earlier twelve issue in continuity event), and superstar artist Jim Lee we are introduced to Bruce Wayne's childhood chum-- Tommy Elliot. What follows is a huge adventure, a greatest hits of Batman's world, that takes the guys on a rollercoaster ride of discovery, observations, and critiques. Where were the boys when this story dropped? Is it in the top ten of all-time Batman stories? Favorite chapter(s)? Jim Lee's chosen styleto depict this adventure. And how did Jeph Loeb concoct, quitepossibly, the best Batman vs Superman brawl in DC comics history? Bring a score card, you'll need it, and try and keep up with theMint crew as they hurtle to the end (dodging batarangs, gas bombs, cat o' nine tails, clay, venom, Kryptonite, and Lazarus Pits) of one of DC's new millennium mysteries!

Going a little less further back in time, Trent debuts a new segment called "From the Archives" where we delve into the mind of 1990s Toyfare Magazine writers to see just what they were smoking.
