The pod welcomes the content-creating genius that is Bryan's Gunn - aka Will Powell - for the latest edition of Mesut Haaland Dicks, as he chooses his six personal fascinations and irritations of football. Among Will's selections are foreign managers picking up English footballing jargon, Chris Wilder's go-to catchprase, the near-extinct art of goalkeepers just booting the ball upfield, and unnecessary modernisation of the FA Cup draw procedure. Send us a textWhat would you do if your child died as a result of medical negligence and doctors and the police colluded to cover it up? That's what happened in the case of ten-year-old Robbie Powell. His parents are campaigning for all healthcare professionals to be legally obligated to tell the truth following a negligent death. They're supported by the former Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman Sir Rob Behrens CBE says: "Mr Powell was personally traduced by doctors, by regulators by the police service, by the Crown Prosecution Service, by politicians in a way which is just unacceptable. He was patronised and he never gave up." Robbie died from Addison's Disease. He could have been saved if doctors had carried out the necessary tests and informed the family of the risks. Instead, numerous medics failed him and spent 30 years covering it up.In this podcast Robbie's father Will Powell and Sir Rob Behrens join me to discuss the Powell family's relentless pursuit of truth and justice and the systemic failures that have deprived his family of justice for more than 30 years. Today's slide deck: https://bit.ly/3urJOfP - Click here to open an account with Saxo - Today we look at the market trying to recover its feet as it hopes that China will remain on the path toward reopening on fresh signs that it wants to avoid curbing activity excessively after recent civil unrest due to Covid restrictions. We also note, ahead of important incoming US data over the next couple of weeks and a Fed Chair Powell speech tomorrow, that the market is taking a very strong view on the path of Fed policy and the economy, assuming the Fed will succeed in its fight against inflation and will cut aggressively in 2024. Will Powell and/or the data challenge this pronounced view? We also look at electricity prices spiking in Europe, crude oil rebounding and wheat falling, stocks to watch and upcoming earnings reports and macro data. Today's pod features Peter Garnry on equities, Ole Hansen on commodities and John J. Hardy hosting and on FX. Read daily in-depth market updates from the Saxo Market Call and Saxo Strategy Team here. In this week's episode, Dan welcomes back four-time Stansberry Investor Hour veteran Marko Papic. Currently, the geopolitics and macroeconomics specialist serves as a partner and the chief strategist of asset manager Clocktower Group. Before that, Marko was the senior vice president and chief strategist on geopolitical strategy at global investment research firm BCA Research for nearly a decade. He has also worked at Stratfor, one of the world's top geopolitical-intelligence platforms. Marko last joined us in late January, shortly before the Russia-Ukraine war exploded. Today, he's turning his attention to someone "much more relevant and powerful than Vlad[imir Putin]"... chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell. We realize the topic of our central bank's next steps might seem worn out. After all, it has been splashed across the top news headlines daily for most of 2022. But the Fed's actions are massively influencing the global financial system right now. As Marko says... Literally everything that is going on in the world is kind of irrelevant if J. Powell continues to be very hawkish. When the Fed decides it has had enough, everything else can start mattering again. Until then, it's really just all about them. Marko explains the Fed setup that could set off "the most calamitous recession in the history of the United States," and he shares his preferred indicators for a recession. He also discusses the Paul Volcker versus Arthur Burns debate... two former Fed chairmen who defined their careers by tackling inflation. Will Powell follow in Burns' dovish footsteps or take a more uncompromising stance like Volcker did? Finally, Marko highlights a future threat to the markets: the 2024 presidential election. As for which side he's on, he elicits some chuckles from Dan with his candor... I don't care, right or left... I bathe myself in nihilist indifference. My job is to forecast. It doesn't matter.
“Like some macabre beaver” The panel of peril crack their knuckles revealing just how ruddy tattooed those very joints are: LOVE? HATE? Yes, that's what they say, can you believe it? Then they watch Night of the Hunter before trying to improve upon the villain's diabolical plan for the honour of choosing next week's film and hosting the pod. Night of the Hunter (1955) is film actor Charles Laughton's lone directorial effort and casts Robert Mitchum as dodgy preacher Harry Powell as he arrives in town to try and find the money former cellmate Ben Harper has hidden on his wife and children's farmland. Will Powell find the cash, and what depths will he stoop to in order to gain it? Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8dX6ZKJe2o ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** Ingratiating himself into the Harper family by marrying then murdering matriarch Willa, Harry knows the way to the money is by getting the information from children John and Pearl. When they escape his clutches just how will he find them and by extension the wonga? What did the panel think of this week's movie? How in all that is holy can they improve upon the villain's masterplan? And which evil schemer will be christened this week's most diabolical?
