Are you pricing your AI software correctly?Whether you're trying to attract early users to a new AI SaaS offering or rethinking your model to scale an established product, you have to choose the right pricing model. If you pick the right one for your stage and audience, you'll avoid churn risks and gain a new strategic tool to drive growth. In Episode 85 of B2B SaaS Marketing Snacks, host Brian Graf and guest CMO Antoine Vial break down the major pricing models emerging in the AI-driven SaaS space – from traditional seat-based subscriptions to usage-based and outcome/value-based pricing. You'll learn how to align your pricing with your ideal customer profile and overall go-to-market strategy, ensuring your pricing not only generates revenue but also reinforces the value of your AI-powered solution. Here are the episode's critical subjects:Why pricing is a critical differentiator in the AI SaaS market: How the explosion of AI startups has made pricing strategy a key way to signal value and stand out in a crowded field.Pros and cons of key pricing models: An in-depth look at seat/subscription pricing vs. usage-based pricing vs. value-based (outcome-based) pricing – including their benefits (e.g. predictability vs. flexibility) and potential downsides (like cost unpredictability or complexity).Hybrid pricing strategies in action: How combining models (for example, a base subscription plus usage-based add-ons or credits) can balance stable revenue with customer flexibility, and why this hybrid approach is popular for many AI-powered tools. When to use each model based on growth stage: Guidance on matching your pricing strategy to your company's maturity – from keeping it simple at the MVP stage to reduce friction, to moving toward value-based pricing once you have product-market fit and proven outcomes.Aligning pricing with your ideal customer profile: The importance of understanding your target audience's expectations and industry norms (e.g. are they used to pay-per-use or prefer flat rates?) and tailoring your pricing model to meet those expectations and maximize adoption.Using pricing to build credibility and trust: How a well-designed pricing scheme can serve as a credibility signal – for instance, value-based pricing demonstrates confidence in your product's ROI – and why transparency (like free tiers or clear pricing pages) can lower barriers for new users.Common pitfalls to avoid in pricing an AI product: Insights on mistakes SaaS companies make, such as overcomplicating pricing too early or misaligning price with value, and how to iterate and test your pricing safely as you learn from customer behavior.Get ready to explore which pricing strategies work best at different stages of a company's growth and product maturity -- information that's applicable to early-stage startups and scale-ups alike. Certain approaches (like hybrid usage models or value-based pricing) can build credibility and trust with customers, while others can create churn risk if misaligned with customer expectations.B2B SaaS Marketing Snacks is one of the most respected voices in the SaaS industry. With over 14,000 new AI startups in the past few years and nearly every software tool now adding “AI” to its messaging, how can your AI-powered SaaS product stand out? In Episode 84 of BSMS Marketing Snacks, host Brian Graf and special guest CMO Antoine Vial (fractional CMO for 20+ SaaS companies) explore why technical features alone aren't enough to win customers during the AI gold rush. You need to craft messaging around the real outcomes and value you deliver. They use real examples (like how one startup niched down with “personalization at scale” for a specific audience before broadening out) to illustrate effective go-to-market tactics. You'll hear about emerging trends: from new pricing models in an AI-first era to booming verticals like customer support, sales automation, analytics, cybersecurity, and more. This episode covers:Differentiating in a Saturated AI Market: Why the explosion of AI startups makes clear positioning more important than ever, and how to avoid getting lost in a sea of “AI-powered” claims.Outcome-Focused Positioning: How to move beyond bragging about algorithms and instead highlight the concrete business outcomes and “jobs-to-be-done” your product delivers for customers. The Power of Niche & Early Adopters: A playbook for niching down – targeting a specific vertical or problem first – to gain traction and product-market fit (and how companies like Clay used this strategy to build momentum).Evolving Your Go-to-Market Strategy: Tips on identifying your ideal early adopters, refining your messaging for that subsegment, then expanding thoughtfully once you've established a foothold.Emerging Pricing Models for AI SaaS: An overview of pricing trends – from traditional subscriptions and tiered plans to usage-based “credit” models and value-based pricing – and how these choices support (or hinder) your positioning.Industry Trends & Examples: Insights into key AI-driven verticals (from AI voice agents in customer service to AI coding assistants) and what's helping the winners in those niches break through the noise.Cutting Through Hype to Drive Adoption: Why simply having AI isn't a strategy, and practical advice for founders on communicating your unique value so customers understand why your solution matters to them. For B2B SaaS founders and marketing leaders driving companies above $2M ARR, this conversation is a masterclass in standing out and scaling up in the AI era. As your company grows, the stakes of positioning only get higher – especially when you're competing in a hot space with well-funded entrants and legacy players all touting AI. Episode 84 arms you with expert perspectives on sharpening your value proposition and go-to-market focus. You can refine your messaging, target the right niche audiences, and align your pricing with value – all of which are crucial to accelerating growth beyond the $2M mark. Make sure your AI-powered product isn't just another face in the crowd, but a clearly differentiated solution poised for long-term success.B2B SaaS Marketing Snacks is one of the most respected voices in the SaaS industry. Feeling overwhelmed by a never ending to-do list, or struggling to balance high impact work with personal growth? The development matrix can help.In Episode 82 of B2B SaaS Marketing Snacks, co-hosts Brian Graf and Stijn Hendrikse dive into the Development Matrix – a simple but powerful framework for overloaded marketing leaders – and unpack how to tackle the never-ending to-do list that every B2B SaaS marketer and founder knows too well. Here's what you'll learn:The Development Matrix Framework: How to categorize your tasks into four quadrants based on how effective you are at them and how much they energize you, so you can clearly see what to keep doing and what to delegate.Prioritizing High-Impact Work: Why focusing on the tasks that generate the best outcomes (and letting go of the rest) drives better results and prevents you from getting bogged down in busywork.Delegation Done Right: Practical tips for deciding who should take on a task – whether it's a team member who'll find it exciting or an AI tool that can handle it – and how to delegate without simply “dumping” work on others.Avoiding Burnout: Insights on recognizing when a task you used to love has become a grind, and how handing it off at the right time keeps you fresh and your team motivated (no more burning the candle at both ends).Empowering Your Team: How using this framework not only frees up your time for strategic thinking, but also creates growth opportunities for your team through coaching and new responsibilities (a win-win for company culture). The “Who Not How” Mindset: Always asking “Who is best equipped to do this?” for each new project – including leveraging AI for support – so you're continually optimizing your workload for maximum impact.Time always feels scarce in SaaS marketing! The Development Matrix is a great tool to prioritize work, focus on high-impact tasks, and still make room for personal growth. This approach helps avoid burnout while keeping you focused on the work you enjoy and excel at, rather than drowning in tasks that drain you. You'll spend more time on what truly moves the needle (and what you love doing) and less on the minutiae that can be handled by others. It's a valuable playbook for scaling your leadership, preventing burnout, and building a stronger team as your SaaS business continues to grow.B2B SaaS Marketing Snacks is one of the most respected voices in the SaaS industry. Ever wish you could boost revenue without scrambling for new customers? You can! But only if you maximize the hidden growth opportunity in your existing customer base. In Episode 81 of B2B Marketing Snacks, co-hosts Brian Graf and Stijn Hendrikse welcome back B2B SaaS CMO Cecilia Pérez-Muskus to continue the discussion from Episode 80. Our very own B2B SaaS experts dig into how the best SaaS companies drive over 50% of their revenue from current customers (while the average is only ~28%). They have practical advice for you on using customer success, product usage data, and account-based marketing to capture a ton of untapped revenue. Here's what you'll learn:The biggest expansion mistakes to avoid: Why chasing new logos while ignoring current customers is a recipe for missed revenue (and even churn), and how great SaaS companies flip this script.“Land and Expand” done right: How starting with a small beachhead (a single team or use-case) can lead to multi-department wins and multi-location rollouts – without the long enterprise sales cycle.Aligning your team for growth: Tips on getting Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success on the same page to drive upsells. (Hint: your CSMs can become a second sales force when it comes to expansion, especially when they partner closely with sales reps.)Finding upsell gold in your data: How to spot upsell and cross-sell opportunities by analyzing product usage patterns and listening to customer feedback. You'll discover ways to use surveys, support tickets, and in-app metrics to identify who's ready for an upgrade (and who might need extra love).Account-based marketing for existing customers: Tactics for running one-to-one ABM campaigns targeting your current accounts – from personalized email outreach to tailored content that addresses each customer's next potential “job to be done.”Key metrics and growth levers for expansion: Which expansion metrics matter most (think Net Revenue Retention and percent of revenue from expansions) and how to move the needle. Plus, why regularly revisiting your pricing and packaging can significantly boost customer lifetime value.Scaling isn't just about landing new deals – it's about maximizing value from your existing base to drive efficiency and profitability. You'll come away with practical ideas to improve retention, increase each account's revenue contribution, and get your team aligned on expansion as a growth strategy.B2B SaaS Marketing Snacks is one of the most respected voices in the SaaS industry. Cassie Hanagan, USGS Advancing our understanding of earthquake processes inevitably pushes the bounds of data resolution in the spatial and temporal domains. This talk will step through a series of examples leveraging two relatively niche geodetic datasets for understanding portions of the earthquake cycle: (1) temporally dense and sensitive borehole strainmeter (BSM) data, and (2) spatially dense sub-pixel image correlation displacement data. More specifically, I will detail gap-filling benefits of these two datasets for different earthquakes. BSMs respond to a frequency of deformation that bridges the capabilities of more common GNSS stations and seismometers. As such, they are typically installed to capture deformation signals such as slow slip or transient creep. In practice they are also useful for measuring dynamic and static coseismic strains. This portion of the talk will focus on enhanced network capabilities for detecting both coseismic and postseismic deformation with a relatively new BSM array in the extensional Apennines of Italy, with events spanning tens to thousands of kms away. Then, we will transition toward how these instruments can constrain spatiotemporally variable afterslip following the 2019 Mw7.1 Ridgecrest, California earthquake. High spatial resolution displacements from sub-pixel image correlation serve as gap-filling datasets in another way – providing higher spatial resolution (~0.5 m) maps of the displacement fields than any other method to date, and patching areas where other methods fail to capture the full deformation magnitude or extent, such as where InSAR decorrelates. This portion of the talk will focus on new results that define expected displacement detection thresholds from high-resolution satellite optical imagery and, alternatively, from repeat lidar data. Examples will include synthetic and real case studies of discrete and diffuse deformation from earthquakes and fault creep.

We will highlight some recent work we've done in integrating of this novel class of memory into LLM/RAG/vector database frameworks and workflows. Disaggregated shared memory is envisioned to offer high performance, low latency caches for model/pipeline checkpoints of LLM models, KV caches during distributed inferencing, LORA adaptors, and in-process data for heterogeneous CPU/GPU workflows. Strong product marketing is crucial for early-stage software companies. But it's also the most significant gap for many.Whether it's your first marketing hire or someone from your founding team, someone on your team should be able to connect their deep understanding of your product (features, capabilities, value delivery) with an overarching go-to-market plan. Some of the core product marketing capabilities your team needs are: Positioning: Understand your market and the competition. Create a point of view & product narrative. What makes you unique, different, or better than the alternatives? Packaging & Pricing: Make difficult decisions about product packages and pricing that maximize revenue per user and support your go-to-market motion (product-led growth, marketing-led growth, or sales-led growth). Messaging: Clarify your point of view with compelling communication that acknowledges your best-fit customers, who they are, how they buy, and where they are in the buying process. Turn features and functionalities into capabilities, outcomes, and benefits.  Promotion: Enable your sales force, create content that creates and captures demand, and decide which channels to invest in. Those whose plasma vitamin C levels were among the highest 25% had an adjusted risk of dying from cancer or stroke that was 28% lower and a risk of dying from heart disease that was 35% lower than subjects whose levels were lowest.  When subjects with low vitamin C levels (defined as 28 micromoles per liter or below) and normal levels (greater than 28 micromoles per liter) were compared, a normal level was associated with a 23% lower risk of premature mortality and a 38% lower risk of dying from heart disease, in comparison with low levels.  As a possible reason for their findings, Shao-Ming Wang and colleagues note that oxidative stress is lowered by vitamin C. Oxidative stress can promote endothelial dysfunction that underlies heart disease by increasing inflammation and lipid peroxidation and decreasing nitric oxide availability. Oxidative stress also causes DNA damage associated with cancer. Pomegranate-cocoa blend helps improve aging men's symptoms Shetty Hospital (India), August 19 2022.  A study published  in the International Journal of Medical Science found benefits for supplementing with a combination of extracts of Punica granatum (pomegranate) fruit rind and Theobroma cocoa seed extracts in middle-aged men. Previous research that investigated the effects of a blend of extracts of pomegranate fruit rind and cocoa seed in young men resulted in increases in serum and free testosterone levels as well as muscle strength and size. The current study included 120 men between the ages of 36 to 55 years who received 200 mg or 400 mg of pomegranate-cocoa extract or a placebo for 8 weeks. All participants were assigned to a program consisting of 30 minutes of walking per day for 5 days per week.  At the end of the 7-week period, both doses of pomegranate-cocoa extracts were associated with significant improvement in aging males' symptom scores, free and total testosterone levels, strength and perceived stress compared to the beginning of the study and to the placebo group.  The authors concluded that pomegranate-cocoa “is a well-tolerated, safe, and effective nutraceutical blend that boosts sexual function, testosterone level, and psychological and general well-being in aging males.” Placebo effect demonstrates healing power of the mind Harvard Medical School, August 13, 2022  Experts at Harvard Medical School advocate that the placebo effect be received with more positivity, rather than viewed as a deceptive or inaccurate measure designed to test health.  They conclude that the power of thought can be extremely effective in helping people heal, focusing on physiological changes that have been linked to the placebo effect. The placebo effect involves someone being given medicine that is actually typically nothing more than a sugar pill which does not contain active ingredients. Many times, patients receiving a placebo who are in need of healing a certain condition report feeling significantly better, if not altogether healed. The experts at Harvard explain that improvements may take place because of the anticipated response that a person expects when given medication. The university's literature says that there is “evidence that some of the placebo effect is a favorable reaction to care and attention from people who patients believe can help ease their suffering and distress.” It goes on to say that the placebo effect “may be an integral part of good medical care and an ally that should be embraced by doctors and patients alike.” This paves the way for potential changes in how health is handled and, furthermore, reinforces the strength of the human mind to bring about healing and desired outcomes, health or otherwise. Awake within a dream: Lucid dreamers show greater insight in waking life University of Lincoln (UK), August 12, 2022 People who are aware they are asleep when they are dreaming have better than average problem-solving abilities, new research has discovered. Experts from the University of Lincoln, UK, say that those who experience ‘lucid dreaming' — a phenomena where someone who is asleep can recognise that they are dreaming — can solve problems in the waking world better than those who remain unaware of the dream until they wake up. It is thought some people are able to do this because of a higher level of insight, meaning their brains detect they are in a dream because events would not make sense otherwise.  This cognitive ability translates to the waking world when it comes to finding the solution to a problem by spotting hidden connections or inconsistencies, researchers say. The research by Dr Patrick Bourke, Senior Lecturer at the Lincoln School of Psychology, is the first empirical study demonstrating the relationship between lucid dreaming and insight. The study examined 68 participants aged between 18 and 25 who had experienced different levels of lucid dreaming, from never to several times a month. They were asked to solve 30 problems designed to test insight. Each problem consisted of three words and a solution word. Results showed that frequent lucid dreamers solved 25 per cent more of the insight problems than the non-lucid dreamers. The role of dietary coconut for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease Curtin University (Australia), August 12, 2022 According to news reporting originating in Bentley, Australia, research stated, “Coconut oil, derived from the coconut fruit, has been recognised historically as containing high levels of saturated fat; however, closer scrutiny suggests that coconut should be regarded more favourably.” The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from Curtin University, “Unlike most other dietary fats that are high in long-chain fatty acids, coconut oil comprises medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA). MCFA are unique in that they are easily absorbed and metabolised by the liver, and can be converted to ketones. Ketone bodies are an important alternative energy source in the brain, and may be beneficial to people developing or already with memory impairment, as in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Coconut is classified as a highly nutritious ‘functional food'. It is rich in dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals; however, notably, evidence is mounting to support the concept that coconut may be beneficial in the treatment of obesity, dyslipidaemia, elevated LDL, insulin resistance and hypertension – these are the risk factors for CVD and type 2 diabetes, and also for AD. In addition, phenolic compounds and hormones (cytokinins) found in coconut may assist in preventing the aggregation of amyloid-beta peptide, potentially inhibiting a key step in the pathogenesis of AD.” According to the news reporters, the research concluded: “The purpose of the present review was to explore the literature related to coconut, outlining the known mechanistic physiology, and to discuss the potential role of coconut supplementation as a therapeutic option in the prevention and management of AD.” Cold sores virus, cardiovascular damage linked in study Brighton and Sussex Medical School, August 14, 2022 A herpes virus similar to the one that causes cold sores has been linked to immune cells that can damage cardiovascular tissue, according to a study. Researchers at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School in England found that a relevant number of a specific type of immune cells arise when infection with cytomegalovirus is present. Their findings were published in the journal Theranostics. The virus, which is frequently associated with the salivary glands, has been considered harmless because the immune system usually controls it. But the CD28null CD4 T-cells have been known to be involved in damaging the arteries around the heart. Cytomegalovirus infection increases the risk of cardiovascular death by over 20 percent, according to a study published last year in the Journal of the American Heart Association, but the effect wasn't identified. One theory was they were a natural consequence of aging. “While we had previously been aware of a link between these immune cells and cardiovascular damage, this study is the first to show that sufficient numbers to be damaging only occur in the presence of this infection,” lead author Dr. Alejandra Pera, a researcher at BSMS, said in a press release. They found that certain tissue types, which are determined genetically, make individuals more susceptible to large numbers of these cells. With this discovery researchers believe heart disease can be controlled by treating the virus.

I'm your host, Catherine Maley, author of Your Aesthetic Practice – What your patients are saying, as well as consultant to plastic surgeons, to get them more patients and more profits. Now, today's episode is called "Lessons Learned from 1,500 Rhinoplasties - with Diana Ponsky, MD". Rhinoplasty patients can arguably be the most sensitive/emotional/difficult patients to serve, and for good reason.  When someone has been looking in the mirror and disliking what they've seen for years, they have lots of built-up thoughts and expectations about changing it, that you have to deal with. On this week's Beauty and the Biz podcast, I interviewed Dr. Diana Ponsky, a board-certified facial plastic & reconstructive surgeon with a private practice in Beachwood, Ohio for the past 6 years.   Dr. Ponsky has performed more then 1,500 rhinoplasties so we talked about how to  handle expectations using morphing technology, red flags to beware of, as well as the satisfaction that goes with ecstatic rhino patients who love their new look. We also talked about being in private practice for the past 6 years to include: Why going into practice with family was a disaster to avoid Who Dr. Ponsky hired to help her grow Tips for hiring staff that help (not hurt) her practice Visit Dr. Ponsky's Website

We discussed the chronological progression of Dan's career.  Why did Dan pick pharmacy school?  His Dad's best friend was a community pharmacist.  Dan wanted to go into healthcare and own his own business, so he decided to go to pharmacy school.  Dan went to grad school at UT.  He got a MS Degree in Hospital Pharmacy.  The focus was on teaching and research.  After graduating from UT with his MS Degree, Dan left Toledo for a job developing clinical services in NC.  It didn't work out.  He moved on to another job, which he discovered by searching the “Help Wanted” ads in AJHP (American Journal of Hospital Pharmacy).  A position for a clinical coordinator for the pharmacokinetics service at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham was advertised.  Although Dan felt unqualified, he ended up joining the Drug Resource Team at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham as the coordinator for the pharmacokinetics service.  He expanded the volume of consults the role formerly served.  Dan also taught Auburn Pharmacy Students.  It was a good experience, but he was on-call all the time.  The stress and time commitment weren't right for him and his family, so he and his family moved back to Ohio.   Dan then worked for Kaiser Permanente and made his first connection to Lexicomp while there.  Lexicomp has been part of Dan's life ever since.  In the mid 1990's, Dan became the 1st pharmacist in the US to hold a shared position with a college of pharmacy and a community pharmacy:  Ohio Northern University College (ONU) of Pharmacy and Ritzman Pharmacy.  Dan provided MTM services at Ritzman's before MTM had a name!  Since his time at ONU, Dan has helped NACDS replicate the shared position he had at ONU.  Today, there are hundreds of shared positions in the US. Dan co-authored 2 books on natural products for Lexicomp.  They are Natural Therapeutics Pocket Guide Drug-Induced Nutrient Depletion Handbook Dan left Ritzman's Pharmacy and went to work at Lexicomp. Lexicomp felt like a family.  It had a great company culture with company outings to Cedar Point and more.   Dan developed a RX Wiki resource.   Dan held a shared faculty position with NEOMED and Giant Eagle.  When Dan left that position, he could have retired, but he didn't!  Instead, he co-founded PGX101 and founded EduCare4U. How did Dan get into PGX?  He took the Test2Learn™️ Train the Trainer PGX Course so he could develop a PGX elective course at NEOMED and incorporate PGX into therapeutics models.  The Test2Learn™️ program was developed in conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh and NACDS (National Association of Chain Drug Stores).  According to Dan, The University of Pittsburgh is a national leader in PGX research and practice.  What came out of it was meeting Sue Paul, RPh and later spreading the word about PGX to the pharmacy profession to improve the care pharmacists provide to patients.  Sue Paul, RPh and Dan Krinsky train pharmacists on PGX.  They update the PGX101 program every time they deliver it. The profession of pharmacy has given so much to Dan that he wants to give something back.  Education is one way to give back and pay it forward.   Being good listeners (a sounding board for patients) allows us to find out how we can help our patients.  Pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare providers and the most knowledgeable on drug therapies and deprescribing. Dan shared a story about visiting a patient at home.  Dan said, “Home visits are eye-opening.  You learn about your patients.”  We talked about tools to help patients help themselves, such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy.  Pharmacogenomics in Dan's own words:  Applying a patient's genetic make-up to current and future drug therapies.  PGX is a tool that can lead to better outcomes. How do PGX101 students find out about the program?  LinkedIn, networking, podcasts, conferences (Medipreneurs), and organizations (APhA and OPA).   Is PGX 101 in-person or online?  It is only online using Zoom (as of January 2022).  There are two components:  15 modules for 12 hours of CE.  8 hours of live programming:  4 hours on Saturday, 4 hours on Sunday.  To learn more, visit PGX101 online. How much does PGX101 cost?  $495 for all 20 hours.  Consider it an investment in education. PGX201 is a growing community “Beyond the Certificate.”  Membership is 3 months or 12 months.  Benefits include monthly webinars and newsletters, one-on-one consultations with Sue Paul and Dan Krinsky, guest speakers, and more.  Carol Bell, PharmD (KY Pharmacist) is working on a PGX Pharmacists Registry.  According to Dan, a Kentucky teacher's retirement program provides PGX testing as a benefit for their plan.  The ROI has been demonstrated in the form of direct economic benefits.  This can serve as a model for other organizations to follow.  I suggested that this is a “bright spot” ala the book Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard by Chip and Dan Heath. EduCare4U is the umbrella company for all the services Dan offers.  Examples: Individual consultations with patients, some of whom have PGX testing. Writing.  For example, a monthly column for Pharmacy Today on self-care and OTC's.   Consulting.  For example:  monograph reviews for Lexicomp. Surgery center inspections Expert witness for attorneys Part-time work in two pharmacies in his area Guest lecturer at the Palm Beach Atlantic University Gregory School of Pharmacy   We spoke about Dan's expert witness role.  The first time he served this role was early in his career while working in Alabama.  The first attorney Dan helped recommended Dan do more expert witness work.  Dan told a story about an intense deposition that took hours.  Dan serves as a pharmacist on medical mission trips to Honduras each year with his local Catholic Church.  He has been doing it for 17 years, and he loves it.  Dan got started with his mission work by covering for a pharmacist who got sick and had to drop out of the trip.   Who was on the Mission Trip?  High school students who serve as Spanish-language interpreters, doctors, dentists, nurses, optometrists, pharmacists, and others who want to serve.  They see 3,000-4,000 patients in one week and dispense 15,000-20,000 prescriptions. Dan gave advice for Pharmacist Dads:  Have a career, but be present for family.  Always prioritize your family first.  Dan wanted to be present for milestones, coaching his kids, attending events, going on vacations, and taking his wife out for their anniversary.  “You never get those moments back.” Dan said, “Career is important, but pharmacy will always be there.” Thank you for listening to episode 133 of The Pharmacist's Voice ® Podcast!

She was recently featured in the documentary "Not the Science Type", a documentary that premiered during the Tribeca Film Festival this summer. She is the author of "The Heart of Science: Engineering Footprints, Fingerprints, and Imprints".Episode NotesJayshree Seth didn't think she wanted to be an engineer or scientist. She had a strong interest in humanities subjects and grew up knowing that she wanted to help people and make a difference in the world. Her parents strongly encouraged her to go into engineering and she eventually saw that engineers and scientists DO help people and are change makers in the world - and she is passionate about sharing that message and encouraging women and underrepresented minorities to pursue STEM careers knowing a humanities mindset is huge component of success in STEM.We talk about the documentary "Not the Science Type", her public facing role as a Chief Science Advocate (sounds like the coolest job ever), her book "The Heart of Science: Engineering Footprints, Fingerprints, and Imprints" which is a great collection of advice and articles about STEM and whose proceeds go to fund scholarships for a woman of color. We talk about the need to change narratives and archetypes around STEM careers, motherhood, communication skills, and so much more.Music used in the podcast: Higher Up, Silverman Sound StudioAcronyms, Definitions, and Fact CheckNot the Science Type: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgHIoyZjMCI. "Not the Science Type" is an incredible four - part documentary series that will quickly disabuse you of that notion. In the series you will meet four amazing female scientists who are ushering in a new future, as they address critical global and local challenges. These brilliant women have faced sexism, racism and ageism in their professional journeys and in response, they have shattered stereotypes with each new innovation, patent and award. The Heart of Science: Engineering Footprints, Fingerprints, & Imprints - https://www.amazon.com/Heart-Science-Engineering-Footprints-Fingerprints/dp/0578785129/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1608578292&sr=8-1The Heart of Science explores big ideas through a collection of insights, reflections and tips from Jayshree Seth's successful corporate career in research and development that spans over 25 years and includes 72 patents, as well as national and international accolades. The State of Science Index is a third-party, independent research study commissioned by 3M that tracks and explores global attitudes toward science, taking the pulse on how people think and feel about the field and its impact on the world around us. Last year, we released two waves of data at once: one which was fielded a few months before the pandemic hit in August-October 2019 (called 2020 Pre-Pandemic Survey), and a second full data set from a pulse survey conducted during the pandemic in July-August 2020 (called 2020 Pandemic Pulse). About six months later (February-March 2021) and one year into the epidemic, we fielded the 2021 survey to help us understand the longer-term impact that the pandemic and other major economic and social justice milestones have had on global views on science and top scientific issues. On this week's The Sci-Files, your hosts Chelsie and Danny interview Alex J. Roy. Alex is a dual-enrolled BS/MS student in Lyman Briggs and the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics. He works in the Neubig Lab in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology.Alex studies the mechanisms of an ultra-rare genetic disorder called GNAO1 Encephalopathy. Patients, of which there about 200 known, begin showing combinations of developmental delay, movement disorders, and epilepsy in early childhood. They have mutations in the gene GNAO1, which codes for a subunit of the G-protein Go. It is the most expressed membrane protein in the central nervous system. The problem is that Go is barely understood compared to other G-proteins like Gs and Gi. At the same time, it is known to affect neurotransmission in many ways: development, excitability, and neurotransmitter release. Thus, untangling why certain patient mutations lead only to movement disorders or epilepsy while others cause both is very difficult. The Neubig lab has pioneered the development of mouse models of GNAO1 disorders, invaluable tools for solving this puzzle. Alex is probing their neuroanatomy to look for defects that might help explain-- or even suggest a cure for--  these burdensome disorders. If you're interested in talking about your MSU research on the radio or nominating a student, please email Chelsie and Danny at scifiles@impact89fm.org. Mindset, Positivity, Negatives, Thinking   Episode 066 Moving From SHOULD to WANT to CAN with Jean Moroney URL: http://www.julieannsullivan.com/moving-should-want-can-jean-moroney It’s so easy to get caught up in negativity sometimes. It seems like we are bombarded with it on social media, television, in our workplaces and sometimes in our own relationships. You may not have realized it, but some of the negatives in your life can actually do you some good. No, I’m not saying you should wish for negatives in your life, but if you have them, you may actually be able to use them for good!   My guest today is Jean Moroney, a speaker and the President of Thinking Directions. She teaches professionals how to use targeted thinking to solve problems and achieve their goals. Jean offers many courses and resources on her website. Today we’re talking about moving from SHOULD to WANT to CAN and how negatives are really positives in disguise. Come and learn how to improve YOUR thinking! Bio: Jean Moroney works with entrepreneurial people, in and out of corporations, to help them achieve ambitious goals. They learn to think on their feet, get their point across, and take action. Ms. Moroney has an MS in Psychology (CMU, 1994), a BS & MS in Electrical Engineering (MIT, 1985 & 1986), and graduate training in Philosophy from the Ayn Rand Institute. She speaks to audiences all over North America and online in her Thinking Lab program. You’ll discover:   Jean’s superpower: aligning SHOULD and WANT and CAN This principle is the deep solution to many motivational problems Why SHOULD, WANT, and CAN must be aligned SHOULD—the mind, what you think logically that you should do WANT—the emotion, things you desire to do CAN—the facts, what makes sense in reality Why these elements get misaligned How positives and negatives DOOM you How to turn negatives into all positives! Jean’s goals: to discover ideas, teach, and have a successful business Find out what your motivators are How to ask the right questions Action steps to take Make a pro and con list about decisions Narrowing down your top priorities Jean’s daily routines, including a mantra and journaling How to make an AND list Interview Links & Other Resources   ThinkingDirections.com Connect on Twitter Connect on LinkedIn Connect on Facebook Additional Resources: Jean's Video Manifesto The AND list is explained here Get the Smarter Starter Kit Freebie Here   iTunes - Subscribe, Rate & Review

This week on IAQ Radio we will be discussing tools of the trade for IAQ and Energy professionals and an interesting comparison of home IAQ monitors. Our guests are Bill Spohn, PE President of TruTech Tools, LTD and Nate Adams of Energy Smart Home Performance. Bill works every day determining which tools of the trade his customers need and Nate is in the field plus has produced a recent paper on home IAQ monitors. The two of them will make for a great tag team to discuss the topic. Bill Spohn has designed, marketed and sold a wide array of test and measurement products in the last twenty-five years. He was design-engineering manager at Bacharach, Inc. for 10 years and HVAC Product Marketing Manager at Testo, Inc. for 10 years. Since 2009, he has managed and is now President, CEO and majority owner of TruTech Tools, LTD. He regularly presents technically complex topics to a wide range of audiences on the applications of testing and measurement instrumentation in building science, weatherization, and HVACR. He has worked on BPI, RESNET, GAMA, AHRI, OMA, RSES, NATE, and ACCA Technical Committees, and holds three US patents in instrumentation design. He also consults in instrumentation design, development and application along with expert witness work on HVAC equipment, heat exchanger, carbon monoxide and related issues. Bill is majority owner of www.TruTechTools.com and runs a consulting business, William P. Spohn, LLC, which engages in HVACR Expert Witness work, technical education and e-commerce consulting. Bill's BS & MS in Mechanical Engineering are from the University Of Rochester. Nate Adams is the founder of Energy Smart Home Performance outside Cleveland Ohio. Energy Smart started out as an insulation contractor for existing homes, but has evolved into doing Comprehensive Home Performance retrofits. Their projects are somewhere between a simple attic insulation job and a deep energy retrofit. These projects are sweeping in scope with thorough planning process and careful attention paid to what problems the client wants to solve, what the house needs, and what fits within the homeowner budget. No two projects are alike.Through substantial air tightness and insulation upgrades, and sometimes HVAC replacement, homes are made far more comfortable. Nate became concerned that they weren't always far more healthy. Over the last two years he has dug into how his work affects the Indoor Air Quality of client homes and is beginning to draw some conclusions. He has recently completed a comparison of seven new or newer consumer grade Indoor Air Quality testing devices, and has found several of them useful in his practice. They are particularly useful for before and after studies as well as continuous optimization, which is making small adjustments to deliver better comfort and healthier conditions for clients.
