Tariffs-sha-mar-riffs I am going to need all of ya'll to stop playing in my face. I am black, big-backed, and proud. Not a 60s era black person. I will cuss you and slap you out. Your crooked weave leader got ya'll twisted.   Please don't mistake my silence for compliance or agreement. My resistance is not the same as yours. Still calling out hypocritical white led liberal movements….Even with new Sketchers, I got bad knees and feet, I am not walking on anybody's picket line or marching anywhere. Also, I will not be bullied into donating to your super PAC. News flash, you can threaten to silence ActBlue at the risk of blowing up every MAGA-dominated PAC, so get out of my face and stop spamming me. Money talks, BS walks Costco has 433.55 billion reasons Costco to tell the  US government and 19 hooded governors to F all the way off.   Scam Nation Chronicles...Presidential pardons only for federal crimes, you can still be convicted and jailed for securities violations on the state level, and no US Calvary coming to bell you out. Crazy Pants MTG where you get 300K large? Did you know GA like all states have Securities Investigations? Key differences between the National Partnership for Reinventing Government and DOGE... intent, approach, and current actions. Also, there was no active censorship of the media or private during the NPR initiative. DOGE actions affect everyone negatively and will only benefit few, the top 2%. Pop Cultures Comments and Real-T on Reality TV: Shannon Sharpe's April is shaping up to be more dramatic than a fourth-quarter comeback – and with just as many questionable calls. He is real stupid. Demetria L. Lucas does an amazing job breaking down the multi-page complaint in her recent episode. I plan to read and comment on Ms. Tina's new book Matriarch in upcoming episodes, but you can listen to Kid Fury and Chrissle interview her on the latest episode of The Read.  Finally #RHOA, Brit and Drew Be Lyin' make it make sense and the math ain't mathing, move on, because your current story lines are boring me.  Contact Us on: https://linktr.ee/tnfroisreading Blue Sky: @tvfoodwinegirl.bsky.social Threads: www.threads.net/@tnfroisreading Instagram: @tnfroisreading Facebook: TNFroIsReading Bookclub You know your girl is on her hustle, support the show by navigating to: Dale's Angel's Store...For Merch Promo Code: tnfro Writer's Block Coffee Ship A Bag of Dicks Promo Code: tnfrogotjokes Don't forget to drop me a line at tnfroisreading@gmail.com, comments on the show, or suggestions for Far From Beale St additions.

Why did I remove the State From My Handle. I just live here and not responsible for the whacked decisions of the majority. #OctaviaButler's    Parable of The Sower is banned due to it really being an amazing book. I firmly believe religion and who or what God is changing and is ok.  I talk about the drug "pyro" and the deeper meaning of the "painted faces" in the Parable. The Painted Faces not just a roving band of pyromaniacs they symbolize unchecked consumerism and the pursuit of pleasure at any cost. Check out comments on the Bookclub Facebook Page. Greetings, Scorekeepers! Welcome back to MN Opera's THE SCORE! As you can see we're on Mondays now, so let's get this week started off right with... some COVID chat? Like every other human on earth we are doing our best to stay upright as we ride this fourth wave, so we spend a little time trying to process our feelings and find a little oasis of sanity. Come breathe with us! Fortunately, however, we do have something to celebrate in the form of another woman of color doing big things in the classical music world. This time, we're congratulating Shanta Thake and her recent ascension to Chief Artistic Officer at Lincoln Center. Amazing! Then we get our Kid Fury and Crissle on for a few minutes, b/c we're afraid someone needs to get read. Apparently, according to a certain "secular conservative," classical music is under racial attack and DEI programs that aim to dismantle white supremacy inside of classical music and opera institutions will be the death of us all! And naturally, to paraphrase the great Michael Jordan, we took that personally. So it's time to go to school! And then we'll send you into the rest of your week as usual with a moment of Pure Black Joy (plus Suni Lee)! Let's do it to it, y'all! Alex Boykins: Healing Old Wounds to Loving with Healthy Boundaries Emotional wounds hurt as much as physical wounds. When they remain unhealed, they can get in the way of finding love. They make us incapable of being vulnerable, which is necessary for making connections. If we are to have a loving relationship, we need to shed our armors so that we can get to the wounds that pain us. In this episode, we are joined by Alex Boykins, a nurse specializing in pain management. Alex fills us in on her frontline work during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also shares how her comedy podcast The Hate Journals helps her stay sane and at peace. Alex also emphasizes the value of therapy and emotional support in maintaining our relationships. Tune in to the episode to learn how to heal old wounds so that you can live, laugh, and love unburdened. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Learn about Alex's previous relationships and how she healed from them. Find out why Alex started her comedy podcast. Discover valuable advice about therapy, friendships, and marriage. Resources The Hate Journals podcast by Alex Boykins The Read podcast by Kid Fury and Crissle Monday Morning Podcast by Bill Burr My first book Relationship Ready: How I Stopped Fucking Randos and Started Cupcaking My Soulmate is available on Amazon and Audible. Grab your copy now! Episode Highlights Alex During the COVID-19 Pandemic Alex has been busier than she has ever been. She misses the time when everyone was kind and helpful to one another. She feels like everyone has been down lately, and that bums her out. Pain management is a tough job even before the health crisis. Although being a clinician is a mentally draining work, it brings her fulfillment. Starting a Comedy Podcast Alex has always believed in having an escape from the stressors in our life that are out of our control. Coming from a family of funny people, she knows comedy alleviates stress and anxiety. Being able to play games, have fun, and start an engaging conversation through podcasts is important to her. There are many serious and depressing podcasts out there, so she wanted to stand out by being lighter. She co-hosts the podcast with her best friend to show that women can have healthy relationships with one another. Thinking Outside the Box When we experience hardship, it is easy to get into a depressive hole. We are not alone. We need to understand that people experience the same problems. Life is too short to not do what you want to. Relating to Stand-Up Comedians Alex talks about her favorite stand-up comedians and why she loves them so much. Listen to the full episode to learn more! Alex believes she needs to pivot her therapy into comedy. Alex's Healing Journey Growing up with parents in an interracial relationship, she realized society didn't accept them easily. Being black in a white neighborhood also made her feel different and have a “take what you can get” mentality. Alex ended up having sexual relations with men who would refuse to make their relationship public out of shame. Realizing her relationships failed because of her skin color made her work on herself. Coming out of an abusive relationship, she promised she'll never put herself in that situation again. Realizations from Relationships You cannot fix others. You can only work on yourself. Even if you never find romance and get married, you are perfect just the way you are. Meeting Her Husband When she met her husband, Alex didn't know how to accept love from other people. Because they had a lot of mutual friends, Alex was hesitant at first to give her now-husband a shot. Listen to the full episode to hear how Alex met her husband! Tools to Stay Stable Therapy is essential for mental health. Alex's biggest fear is her marriage failing because they didn't put in the work. Unchecked mental illnesses affect our relationships, and they should be treated. Your partner must be a dependable emotional support. Commitment to the Relationship Vulnerability is essential in a relationship. Alex never wants her husband to feel like she is talking about him to her friends behind his back. Alex has two people who help them cultivate their marriage because, according to her, it takes a village to keep your marriage happy and healthy. Having a Support Network Having support from your girlfriends is crucial to keeping your sanity. Sometimes, having someone who is your safe place is all you need. How to Balance Everything Alex doesn't want to die with regrets. She wants to show her stepdaughter to chase her dreams no matter how unconventional they are. Alex needs to be happy to be a good wife. Be busy doing the things you love, not the things you regret. Alex's Non-negotiables Respect is a non-negotiable for Alex. It is free and can be given to everyone. Advice for Suffering Women When you're unhappy and in a bad relationship, do not isolate yourself. Seek therapy. 5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode “Go out and do the thing that makes you happy. Life is so incredibly short for us not to be doing the things that we want to do.” “I am who I am. I can change and fix no one. I can only fix me, and I can only work on me.” “I cannot stress enough: therapy, therapy, therapy. It is so important to have somebody who you pay to keep your secrets, honey.” “It is important to have another woman, another breathing, eating, woman who really fucking gets you, and is never gonna judge you, and is going to stand by you.” “We say it takes a village to raise a child, and that's true. But it takes a village to keep your marriage happy and healthy.” About Alex Alex Boykins is a full-time nurse, specializing in pain management. She is also the co-host of The Hate Journals podcast and a loving wife and mom, residing in Reno, Nevada. Two Wise Jawns

Episode 52 -- Money, Money, Money! Prompted by... ...our desire to explore the price of beauty in Episode 51. ...the Refinery 29 "Money Diaries" article on salary history and transparency; as well as its article about parental financial allowances that broke the Twitter timeline. ...Kelly Rowland's reflections on wealth building. ... and yes our personal lives. Hence we decided it's time to talk money. Specifically, our relationship to it, what we’ve learnt, what we still need to, and how it affects our relationships. We think we're just as nervous talking about this topic as we would be talking about our sex lives? Why does "money talk" make everyone so uncomfortable? But let’s do it, cause being secretive about money is the man's way of keeping us down! So let’s rage homies! WEIRD SHIT: Shan is obsessed with unnerving things, so we brought this segment back so she could clear her shower thoughts on "McKamey Manor." Morg hates -- she's got bad nerves! HOT TOPICS: We recorded this episode almost 2 weeks ago because we're a hot mess so are the hot topics even hot anymore? :( Anyway here they are: - RIP Movie Pass - We had a whole 5 min on Beyonce getting control of the Vogue cover and enlisting the young black photographer Tyler Mitchell, but we edited it out because our facts were outdated.. Did Beyonce have total control????? lol Or is she queen of plausible deniability (: ? Plus the issue is out now so there's that. - If Kris Jenner were managing Cardi B the Bruno Mars tour would wait for postpartum her! - Disney fires James Gunn for reasonable reasons; Guardians of the Galaxy cast mobilizes in support. - Sherri Shepherd always has a tragic tale to tell. This time it's clear she wasn't tapped for Jack & Jill nor The Links. - Shan makes us discuss her fav Gwyneth Paltrow and dispelling "Becky with the good hair" rumors. - Morg makes us discuss Philadelphia news regarding Jay-Z, Mayor Jim Kenney, and the Made In America festival. - Meghan Markle can't run from the Pennsylvanians! - LeBron James launches his I Promise School because GOAT. - Congrats to Kid Fury on his HBO comedy show development deal! In many ways Two Wise Jawns podcast was inspired by his Furious Thoughts and The Read with a sprinkle of This American Life ! Recorded Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

Crissle West is the co-host of the enormously popular podcast The Read, and she joins Adam in The Wolf Den to talk about her experience in podcasting, and growing the diversity of voices heard in the medium. Crissle shares the story of how she met her co-host Kid Fury, started the show with the Loud Speakers network, and then settled into its successful format. She explains that when The Read started the only podcast she listened to was This American Life, in part because there were very few shows featuring people of color then. Now that The Read is popular, Crissle discusses what it's like to have a loyal fanbase and do sold-out live shows. She also talks about how she is able to make a living from the show—something she did not anticipate—and the value of working with a network. Finally Crissle gives her advice for new podcasters, and predicts what's in store for her in the next couple of years.

Loud Speakers Network co-founder and CEO Chris Morrow joins Adam for an interview that is a must-listen for anyone who has wanted to know how a successful podcast network finds talent and develops shows. Loud Speakers is a hip-hop and urban focused network that started with the Combat Jack Show, hosted by Combat Jack (a/k/a Reggie Osse) who is regarded as the "Charlie Rose of Hip-Hop." Chris tells Adam the kind of shows and talent that Loud Speakers is looking for, holding up the hosts of The Read, Crissle and Kid Fury, as examples of fresh, honest, and authentic voices who have attracted a large and loyal audience. Adam asks Chris about his network's process for developing new shows, which prompts a discussion about both the hard work required and the satisfaction of seeing them come to fruition. This leads to them talking about the constant struggle of balancing a strong brand identity with the flexibility to take on new subjects. Finally, Chris shares his hard-won advice for podcasters looking to launch new shows or start their own networks.

Today on The Gist, Mike Pesca is joined by Kid Fury and Crissle, the hosts of The Read podcast. They are best known for their “reads,” a term with roots in the 1980s black gay community. A read is an honest, Spiel-like venting with a purpose, and makes for great listening. For the Spiel, Mike Pesca remembers his friend Bobby Lichman, who lived his life with brilliance, intensity, and conviction. Bobby performed under the name Bobby Sichran, and today’s show features music from his album From a Sympathetical Hurricane. Kid Fury joins us in the spaceship to discuss the latest season of Game Of Thrones, what's been going on with the success of The Read, and why BenHaMeen doesn't like groups of black superheroes. Plus so much including the casting of the Aaliyah and NWA movies, why Chris Brown gets shot in every movie, and BenHaMeen wonders why no one remembers The Golden Child.
