My name is Jordan Honeyman. I'm 30 years old and have been in the paramotor world since 2008. Always been interested in aviation since a very young age. This was a great way to get involved with my dad when I was in high school. Nobody in my family was a pilot or into aviation so I was never able to be around aviation aside from movies and books. So I gravitated to PPG quite a bit. I have my Private Pilot License as well as I thought my career would take me that direction but just due to finances and other life and health factors, I stuck with PPG. I always though fixed wing was going to be main priority but in the past half decade, I've dedicated way more time to motoring than I ever thought I would. My full time job is for Appareo Aviation dealing with ADS-B equipment and more predominately Flight Data Recorders for commercial and medical aircraft. After I wrap work for the day, I start focusing on my other business with Braedin Butler and Alex Childers. Cache Valley Paramotor is our training and sales business for PPG. It's been an absolute blast getting to teach and watch friends and new acquaintances understand and realize that they too can fly like we do. Getting to see those first flight smiles are what make it all worth it! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jade-lear/message
Radio and politics have had a relation ship since KDKA signed on the air. The Fairness Doctrine meant radio must present both sides of an issue but with the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine we saw radio become more active in local politics. Today on Radio guy reflections we are joined by Jason Williams a talk show host on KVNU AM FM in Logan Utah. This is a great conversation about the role talk radio takes in todays politics. Welcome, everybody! I am recording from the lovely town of Port Angeles, Washington. We are just returning from a quick trip to Utah. It was quick in the sense that we didn't stay that long. But when you are driving 1150 miles each way, it really isn't that quick. Well in today's show, I share some thoughts on the changes in my life and the times and seasons. So let's get to it. This past week we went down to Utah to take our daughter Emma to Utah State University - GO AGGIES. She graduated from high school and chose to go to USU. She's really smart, she has good ideas, she's beautiful inside and out, and I am really going to miss her a lot. Our daughter Camille who is 12 is really missing her as well. Of course, we are all missing her, even our little Yorkie Poo named Minnie is wondering where she is. In addition to Emma going to USU, we now have our daughter Julienne at BYU-Idaho and our daughter Maggie at the University of Utah. Half of our children are grown and out of the home! How is this happing? We still have three at home, Gavin is in high school, Camille is in middle school, and our X-man, Xavier is in elementary school. This parenting thing is hard. You put all your love, sweat, and tears into raising these children, and then poof! They move out. I got to admit, I'm grieving a bit. This isn't the first time we've had a child move out of course. Our daughter Julienne served her mission in Nebraska. When we dropped her off to the MTC in Provo, we said our goodbyes over by the Provo temple, took pictures, gave her lots of hugs, etc. But driving away from the MTC and watching her walk away with her suitcases, realizing that we wouldn't see her again for 18 months, was tough! We were all silent in our van. All of a sudden there was a vacant seat in our 8 passenger van. It was tough. With our daughter Maggie, it was kind of a soft transition. She left and went to the Ukraine to teach English. It seemed more temporary. But she soon came home and then moved out to go to college. She just transferred from Utah State University to the University of Utah. Go Utes! As I was driving home after dropping off Emma at Utah State University in Logan Utah and Julienne at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho, I looked in the rearview mirror. It seemed kind of empty. Now there were 3 empty seats in our 8 passenger van. This past Saturday, June 20th, was World Refugee Day (https://www.unrefugees.org/refugee-facts/world-refugee-day/) , a day when we commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees around the world. To me, the stories of refugees truly embody the resilience of the human spirit. They remind me that I am capable of hard things and that love and family and community are worth fighting for. As such, I hope that this episode will inspire you during this uncertain time in our nation's history. Today's guest, Nelda Ault-Dyslin, has extensive experience working with refugee communities, first at the Cache Refugee and Immigrant Connection (https://www.cacherefugees.org/) or CRIC, as they call it, in Logan Utah. I hope that as you listen, you might get one tiny idea of how you can be a better neighbor (https://3in30podcast.com/captivate-podcast/121-finding-purpose-with-brooke-snow/) and community member–or even just one tiny bit of knowledge that will help you to better understand the issues that you hear about in the news about refugees and immigration. Any effort you make to expand your worldview and become more aware of your neighbors matters! I am grateful to be part of a community of podcast listeners who deeply believes that. How to Help RefugeesThree Takeaways for Welcoming and Supporting Refugee Communities 1. Be creative and humble when learning about refugee communities. 2. Before assuming you know what kind of help a community member needs, ask them. 3. Support efforts and organizations that recognize the assets that refugees bring with them, instead of focusing only on the needs. Today's podcast guest is Don Szczepaniak, President and CEO of Prismview, a Samsung Electronics company which manufactures indoor and outdoor display products including digital billboards. Don talks about what Prismview has done to reduce the impact of tariffs and trends in digital billboard design. To receive a free Prismview white paper on trends in LED billboards click this link. Review Prismview's operations Prismview is headquartered in Logan Utah, about an hour and a half north of the Salt Lake City airport…our Network Operations Center is here in Logan, we have all manufacturing, all fabrication, all calibration, project management – it's all out of Logan…We produce modules in Mexico, we produce modules and assemble and final design work here in Logan…Our sales people are based all over the country. China tariffs have been big in the news. What's the current impact of tariffs on digital billboard components. It was a huge issue last summer. I spent a lot of time in DC testifying and working the halls of Congress as a representative of Prismview to get our message across as a US manufacturer headquartered in Utah which was being impacted by tariffs…at the same time we were looking at our supply chain….what Prismview did is we moved out of China…we shifted our excess production of modules. We still produce three shifts a day in Logan but we shifted our excess production of modules from China to a facility in Tijuana. It wasn't the only reason we moved. We shortened our supply chain. We got quicker response. We moved to a Samsung owned facility…but the tariffs contributed to our decision to move our production out of China… All LED manufacturers are still being impacted by tariffs on LED's. All LED's get produced in China. That impacts everybody equally…it is actually a scale that starts at 10% for some components and goes up to 25%...Because of the flexibility we have and the Samsung affiliate we were able to more our operations very quickly and avoid a tariff impact…We've made a statement to our customers that the tariff's impact will not be passed along to them. What trends you are seeing in digital billboard design? In the LED business it's getting bigger, smaller, more and less. All at the same time. You're seeing a drive to higher resolution. There was a time in Times Square when a 16 mm sign was perfectly fine…We're seeing more and more of the signs moving towards 8 mm. You're seeing in spectaculars, not so much in highway billboards, a continuing move from tru hole technology to surface mount… We are testing some prototypes from some of our vendors that will deliver a reduction in power…in the billboard industry power is cost and cost is important. So I don't think we're at the end of it yet. There's one other trend which is important. Outdoor to indoor and indoor to outdoor…The places and application for LED's…is growing 25% year over year…It's not because they signs are getting bigger. It's more places to put them. And as you get indoor the pressure and the need for fine pixel pitch…is really important. Fine pixel products will drive most of the growth in the digital out of home industry in the next few years. Emily Buckley is a Entrepreneur, storyteller, wife, mother of 5 and founder of Cache Valley Family Magazine. Originally from the small town of Shelley Idaho Emily founded Cache Valley Family Magazine in 2014 after moving to Logan Utah with her husband's job and deciding to follow her dream of pursuing her passion for journalism. She came up with the idea based on moving around a lot in her young marriage, emulating ideas she had seen be successful in bringing communities together and adding a few of her own to develop a crowd sourced, locally focused magazine. On today's episode, she sits down with Nate to discuss everything from Huge mormon families, giving birth without an epidural, having a chip on your shoulder, inspiration from hall of fame coach Lou Holtz and much more. Most importantly they spend time talking about the success of Cache Valley Family Magazine and how it will expand into more communities in the future. They talk about the "Best of" awards and what that has meant to the local community and she also teases the release of CVFM's own podcast which will be launching later in January!
Interview with Star Coulbrooke the Poet Laureate of Logan, Utah. Our life stories are poetry in the making. Poetry is story at its most distilled; story where every word matters; story rich in image and sound and power. Today I am excited to introduce Star Coulbrooke, Poet Laureate for the City of Logan, Utah, she is also the co-founder and coordinator of Helicon West, a bi-monthly open readings venue. She is published in literary magazines and anthologies, her poems are also available in chapbooks, notably Thin Spines of Memory and Walking the Bear. Star is also the director of the Utah State University Writing Center. Poetry is a genre that is close to my heart. I have written poetry since I was a child, so I’m especially excited to discuss how poetry and story align. Stay tuned for our interview with Star – a wisp of a woman with spiky red hair who has a story you won’t want to miss. Stories are our lives in language. Welcome to the Love Your Story podcast. I’m Lori Lee and I’m excited about for our future together of telling stories, evaluating our own stories, and lifting ourselves and others to greater places because of our control over our stories. This podcast is about empowerment and giving you, the listener, ideas to work with in making your stories work for you. The power of story serves you best when you know how to use it. Listen to the podcast to get the details of the discussion with Star. To contact Star Coulbrooke: Star.coulbrooke@usu.edu Send requests for the Poet Laureate to Diane Buist Teresa.harris@loganutah.org (mailto:Teresa.harris@loganutah.org) –the Logan City recorder–for posting on the Facebook sites they maintain for the Logan City Poet Laureate. Poets take language and weave it into a story that explores the dark corners, the emotional epiphanies, the roller coaster ride of living and dreaming, and the mundane. Poets weave truth, imaginings, blessings, and riots of color. They weave the raw, the vulnerable, the real, and then they sleep on it and start again in the living of their own stories and watching the world and the stories unfolding all around us. David Carradine said, “If you can’t be the poet, be the poem.” Your challenge for this week is to live poetically or maybe find a moment to sit down and put some of your thoughts on paper. I find when I write and write, unedited, that I find poetry as I sift through the words. You are a poem. Your life story is a poetry all its own. You can write it out to make sense of it – very therapeutic, or you can just keep on living the richness, the simpleness, the greatness of each smile, each moment of gratitude, each brave moment of acceptance and daring, each small and poetic tear and tantrum, each day in your own way. Have fun creating your story this week. Share this podcast – subscribe, rate and review! Thanks for listening.
