The FTSE 100 dipped as the trading week got underway. Leading Monday's reporters was Moneysupermarket, which unveiled a double-digit rise in revenue, spearheaded by its exposure to the insurance market. However, it was weekend news which dominated this morning, with Curry's skyrocketing on now-confirmed rumours that JD.com is readying a takeover offer for the electricals retailer. Alongside this, Royal Mail parent IDS moved higher on reports the firm could slow delivery of hospital post and legal letters in a cost-saving drive, meanwhile. And finally elsewhere, AIM-listed KEFI Gold jumped after the firm announced its joint venture partner had made a third discovery in the broader Hawiah district in Saudi Arabia. #ProactiveInvestors #moneysupermarket #Curry's #jdsport #royalmail #ids #kefigoldandcopper #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Some notes on Good Energy #GOOD  VALUATION SUMMARY Market Capitalisation = £29m Net Cash = £19m Enterprise Value = £10m Net Asset Value = £38m WHAT DO THEY DO? Good Energy is a supplier of 100% renewable power and an innovator in energy services.  It has long term power purchase agreements with a community of 1,700 independent UK generators who are independent businesses, non profits and local communities, spread all over Britain.    Since it was founded 20 years ago, the Company has been at the forefront of the charge towards a cleaner, distributed energy system.  Its mission is to power a cleaner, greener world and make it simple to generate, share, store, use and travel by clean power.  Its ambition is to support one million homes and businesses to cut carbon from their energy and transport used by 2025.   Good Energy is recognised as a leader in this market, through green kite accreditation with the London Stock Exchange, Which? Eco Provider status and Gold Standard Uswitch Green Tariff Accreditation for all tariffs. THE CEO In April 2021 Nigel Pocklington was announced as the successor to Juliet Davenport the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Good Energy. This transition is part of the continuing evolution of Good Energy from its roots as a simple green energy provider to a newer world green energy services and 'mobility as a service' provider. Nigel most recently served as Chief Commercial Officer of Moneysupermarket.com Group plc. Prior to this, he held a variety of senior roles within Expedia Inc., including President of eBookers and Chief Marketing Officer of Hotels.com. He spent a decade of his early career at Pearson plc, including a period leading the digital operations of the Financial Times.  A DEEPER DIVE INTO THE COMPANY Good Energy have 2 different parts to the business. They supply Renewable energy to domestics & business customers: On 20 January 2022 they announced the disposal of its 47.5MW generation portfolio to Bluefield Solar Income Fund for a total consideration of up to £24.5m.  This generation portfolio of two wind farms & six solar farms supplied 15% of their customers. They now have long term power purchase agreements with a community of 1,700 independent UK generators that supply their 277,000 customers.  This sale of their generation portfolio was part of their strategy to transition to a higher margin energy services provider. Energy Services, this includes Solar Installation & generation, Heat Pumps & Transport Through acquisitions they now have a business that can install solar panels, heat pumps and manage customers generation.  They are the second-largest feed-in-tariff operator in the UK, and has one of the highest profitability/customer in the industry. Transport: They also own 49.9% of Zap-Map, the UK's No.1 EV charging map iOS/Android app.  It allows users to search for EV charging points, plan journeys and pay for charging. It has 600,000 customers and recently raised £9m, £5.3m was from from Fleetcor, (NYSE: FLT) is a leading global business payments company that helps businesses spend less by providing innovative solutions that enable and control expense-related purchasing and payment processes. FORECASTS  Year Revenue Net profit 2023E £267m £1.75m 2024E £258m £4.55m   The net margin is therefore expected to increase from 0.6% in 2023 to 1.7% in 2024, which is more than doubling. They had £38m gross cash at the end of May, which is considerably larger than its market cap. Good Energy rejected a 400p hostile bid in 2021. Canaccord, their brokers, have a target of 475p, current sp 174p. Canaccord: “At our unchanged 475p target, which continues to be based on a sum of-parts, the stock would trade at 13x/8x 2024/25E P/E, and still with a substantial net cash position. We remain Buyers” MY OPINION Good Energy are the original renewable energy company have loyal customers who are of the same ethos, which is to champion green energy decentralisation.  As a company they are profitable, pay a dividend and have a big chunk of cash, around £20m. Some of this will be used to acquire complimentary businesses to enable them to expand further into the green energy, higher margin, services sector. This is a sector that is growing and will continue to grow for decades backed by global regulation to cut carbon emissions. Their revenue generation of £240m+ pa means even a slight improvement in margins, which will happen as they transition from energy supplier to energy service provider, could see a major positive re-rating on their valuation. Routes to Insurance

Hi everyone, this is the second episode of our Mental Health in Life Insurance week. Today is all about how people can go about getting insurance. We are taking a look at advised and non-advised routes, as well as comparison sites. It's important to understand that no matter what we might think is the best route for someone, each of these routes can offer something different that may be what is a helpful first step to getting insurance. We are talking to Phil Jeynes from Reassured, Alan Knowles from Cura Financial Services and Neal Cross from MoneySupermarket for their insights. The key takeaways: People living with mental health conditions might not feel comfortable talking to someone about their medical history. Firms should adapt their communications and link with specialist partners, to support people that are living with mental health, to access insurance in a way that suits them best. There is work being done to encourage the use of iGPRs to better support insurance application underwriting times, to help reduce some of the worry that can potentially build during this time. Within the insurance world there can be a mindset that when applying for insurance it is advised vs non-advised vs price comparison site. In this episode we are stepping away from any kind of judgement of how someone chooses to get insurance, and focusing upon how each of these approaches to getting insurance, helps different people in different ways.  Tomorrow we are going to be talking with Lisa Balboa (Hannover Re) and Fraser Ballantine (Zurich) about how underwriting decisions are made by insurers. Remember, if you are listening to this as part of your work, you can claim a CPD certificate on our https://practical-protection.co.uk/ (website), thanks to our sponsors https://octomembers.com (Octo Members). Harvinder Atwal, Group Data Director at MoneySupermarket, shares how DataOps principles have dramatically enhanced the productivity of the group's data function Adopting DataOps practices has helped MoneySupermarket's data function drive significant productivity gains in recent years. The results have been so good, MoneySupermarket Group Data Director Harvinder Atwal decided to chronicle his experiences in his book, Practical DataOps: Delivering Agile Data Science at Scale. In this episode of the Business of Data podcast, he outlines the key principles that define DataOps and shares how adopting a ‘data products' mindset is helping his team drive business results more effectively. “For us, DataOps is data analytics – in its broadest sense, including data science and AI – combined with ‘lean thinking',” he explains. “The creation of data products is key.” What DataOps and DevOps Have in Common There are two strands to the DataOps concept of ‘lean thinking'. One is about looking at processes, making them more efficient and adapting to change. The other is DevOps. Atwal explains that DevOps has its roots in the historic tension between software developers and operations professionals. While developers want to innovate and improve applications, this can create challenges for operations people, who need to make sure things run in production reliably. “The challenge was that you get to a place where the operations people are maintaining a really brittle product in production,” he explains. “DevOps is there to make sure that these things [don't] happen.” Instead of developing apps as giant ‘monoliths', DevOps breaks them down into independent constituent parts. These can then be iterated rapidly to incrementally improve their performance. Harvinder notes that a key step in applying ‘lean thinking' principles to data and analytics is making the switch from a ‘project' to a ‘product' mindset. Rather than starting with data and trawling it for insights, data teams should start with a ‘desired outcome' and go from there. “Traditionally, the way people have approached using data is to think about actionable insights,” he says. “ So, ‘What can we find in the data that will produce some insights and create a recommendation?'” “It's about flipping everything on its head,” he continues. “We'll take an outcome and say, ‘What kind of data product can we build that will deliver that outcome?'” Key Takeaways · Adopt a ‘data products' mindset. Data teams should start with a business challenge and design a data product that achieves a predefined desired outcome · Streamline the data product pipeline. Use ‘lean thinking' principles to find bottlenecks in existing business processes and find ways to make the data pipeline more efficient · Continuously integrate; continuously develop. Rapidly iterate data products to add in new features, reduce model scoring latency and drive better business outcomes

They’re relatively new and yet they’re brands you recognize. YourParkingSpace is aiming to be the online business that springs to mind next time you want to park your car, whether it’s a for a few hours near the shops or for a few months near to your office. From private driveways to lock-up garages and commercial car parks, you can find a huge array of spaces at YourParkingSpace, with new spaces being added every day. The platform is also giving homeowners an opportunity to earn more than £2,200 a year by simply renting out their driveway to another motorist. Thanks to some great publicity in many national newspapers and both ITV London Tonight and BBC Breakfast the company quickly grew to become one of the most popular places to rent out a parking space. Charles Cridland Technical Director & Co-Founder originally founded the company back in the summer of 2006. Back then it was a pure driveway rental platform, built to allow individuals to boost their income by renting out their unused driveway. Charles now heads up the development and marketing side of things, overseeing the implementation of new features on the site and our latest marketing initiatives to get the word out about what they are doing. Charles joins me on my daily tech podcast to share the startup story behind YourParkingSpace and what the future holds for the company as we head towards a new era of electronic cars.

Given the choice between continuing her academic studies at university and getting into the workplace, Ali began her working life on the bottom rung of a company selling garage doors.   After years of graft she became employee #1 in a three-person agency that was subsequently acquired by a global company - moving from a team of 4 to be one of 2,500 people worldwide overnight.   Ali learned her trade pioneering digital marketing before most of us even had a web site, educating companies like Britannia Building Society and Lloyds Bank way back in 2001 that there was more to marketing than direct mail shots and expensive print media.   She pioneered new marketing systems for clients such as Travelodge and MoneySupermarket, showing them how carefully planned and measured email campaigns could show predictable results and a positive Return on Investment.   A turning point came in 2009, when she started consulting for a small company with a new product for the orthodontic market in Europe - Invisalign.   When she and business partner Cam Brewer decided to “go it alone” in 2014, they were successful in taking the Invisalign account with them and are still responsible for their European marketing programmes.   Then came an innovative new software product that allowed dental teams to measure and monitor their new patient acquisitions - and DenGro was born, a company that is now extending it’s capabilities into multiple treatment modalities, internationally and new vertical markets.   In this podcast you will be captivated by Ali’s natural enthusiasm and willingness to always “give it a go”. You will learn:   how to start at the bottom and rise to the top; why you need ambassadors inside organisations to facilitate change; how a small company can benefit from a big opportunity; why data is everything in marketing; what’s good and bad about Facebook advertising; why relationships are the key to longevity in business; how you can empower your team to convert more leads into patients.

This week on the show, I'm talking about investment managers who have been living high on the hog and steps the regulator will be taking to improve transparency, introduce better price competition and generally take them down a peg or two. There's also a roundup of the latest personal finance news, my favourite money article this week, a random fact about money, an inspirational quote and, of course, the aftershow segment where I share a few of the things happening at Informed Choice this week. Personal finance news -Pound Sterling rose nearly 1% against the US Dollar this week, on the prospect of higher interest rates from the Bank of England. Mark Carney, governor of the Bank of England, said interest rates could rise if business investment grows. -Mortgage lender Nationwide has reported house prices rose in June, following three months of falls. They reported average house prices rose by 1.1% this month, following a fall of 0.2% in May. -The Bank of England's Financial Policy Committee is forcing banks to raise a further £11.4bn by the end of next year, to shore up their finances in case of bad loans. It means banks will need to set aside £5.7bn by the end of 2017, in case economic shocks mean some borrowers default on their repayments. -New research has identified the most expensive time in our lives as age 35. Today on the podcast, I'm sharing some thoughts on How To Make More Money By Doing Less. One of my personal goals for 2017 is to do less. This isn't about being lazy, but wanting to make more of my time. After all, we all have finite time and it’s so easy to fill with ‘being busy’. So I gave some thought to how we might make more of our wealth by doing less. Here are some ideas. To get you started, click here for the comprehensive checklist of all 5 points and some valuable notes (it’s FREE!). Get my detailed checklist here! Personal finance news update -The spending power of the average UK household rose by nearly £600 in the last financial year. Disposable income for the typical UK household rose to £26,332 after taxes, according to the ONS. -The price of petrol and diesel in the UK has risen to its highest since July 2015. This follows a three-pence-a-litre increase during December. -Younger generations are due to inherit more than their predecessors, but with greater inheritance inequality. New research by the Institute for Fiscal Studies found the wealth of older generations has risen by an average of 45% over the past ten years. -New research from Gocompare has found that, on average, people now manage over 30 accounts across all aspects of their lives. These range from online banking and shopping, to gym memberships and subscriptions for home entertainment. -Millions of credit card holders face a New Year financial hangover because they aren’t clued up about their credit card. The new research from MoneySuperMarket reveals two thirds of credit card holders don’t keep a close eye on how much they spend on credit and only check their statement at least once a month.
