The Future of Water Podcast host, Reese Tisdale, and Senior Water Analyst Charlie Suse, discuss findings and takeaways from Bluefield's Water & Sewer Rate Index, published earlier this month. Over the past 12 years, combined household water and sewer bills for a typical U.S. household has increased by a total of 56.2%, or an average of 4.2% each year. From 2022 to 2023, combined household water and sewer bills increased by 3.9%, down slightly from the 5.2% increase observed from 2021 to 2022. On a whole, water and wastewater rates are fairly stable, not changing dramatically from year-to-year. But, from city to city, there is some variation. This episode is a discussion of water rates across some of the largest utilities in the U.S., uncovering the broader trends year-on-year and causes for rate volatility at the local level. Reese Tisdale and Charlie Suse hit on trends in water rates, drivers behind water rate fluctuation, and break down some of the hidden costs in your water bill. On the latest episode of the Debtwire Municipals Muni Lowdown podcast, Managing Editor Paul Greaves speaks with one of the team's journalists, Deb Pace, to discuss water issues in the Southwest focusing on Texas, Arizona, and Nevada.Deb begins the podcast by discussing the efforts of the Texas Water Development Board, their recently released water report that showed that 31% of Texas is under drought conditions, and nearly 40% of the state is vulnerable to drought soon. Deb turns her attention to the agreement reached in the Texas legislature to allocate USD 1bn toward addressing the state's water challenges and highlights a few of the projects funded. The conversation then turns to Arizona and specifically how the state has stopped approving development projects in Phoenix over water concerns. There are also projects highlighted that are benefiting from federal funding. The discussion swings to the USD 1bn in funding over three years to the state's Water Infrastructure Financing Authority to help boost water supply through alternative water projects. The dialogue moves toward Nevada, with Deb discussing its mitigation efforts. Specifically, a state law signed allowing the Southern Nevada Water Authority to limit residential water use during a declared federal emergency water shortage through flow-limiting devices. Deb then highlights pipeline construction efforts in the state. The podcast concludes with the latest plans for the Las Vegas Valley Water District. As a reporter for Debtwire Municipals, Deb Pace covers transportation, utilities, and tax-backed credits in the State of Illinois.#water #drought #conservation #muniland

Nanobubbles provide an effective solution to many of the challenges of climate change. These nanoscopic bubbles are 2500 times smaller than a single grain of salt and can be formed with any gas.  Unlike larger bubbles, they remain suspended in liquid longer and remain stable until they interact with surfaces or contaminants. Their size allows them to achieve dissolved oxygen levels many times greater than those achieved using traditional aeration technologies. With applications from industries including agriculture, aquaculture, oil and gas, mining, and municipal and surface water treatment, nanobubbles can improve energy efficiency, save water, and reduce chemical use. In this episode Hilary Langer talks with Moleaer's CEO Nick Dyner.  Moleaer provides nanobubbles-as-a-service, nanobubble equipment, and water quality improvement around the world. Links: MoleaerArticle: Capitalism Vs. We live in a time where broadband access is no longer a luxury, but a critical tool – connectivity is essential for individuals and businesses. Colorado set an ambitious goal to connect 99% of Colorado households to high-speed broadband by the end of 2027. While there are many methods for broadband expansion, microtrenching is a minimally invasive, rapid, cost efficient, and environmentally-friendly method to deploy fiber infrastructure across the state. Over the last few years Crown Castle has been updating wireless infrastructure in several Colorado communities with fiber and small cell builds. Scott Harry is the Government Affairs Manager at Crown Castle, the nation's largest provider of shared communications infrastructure - cell towers, small cells, fiber - which connects businesses to the data, technology, and wireless services we all rely on every day. The company's comprehensive infrastructure portfolio consists of more than 40,000 cell towers, approximately 70,000 on-air or under-contract small cell nodes, and approximately 80,000 route miles of fiber. Mark Guillen an external affairs leader specializing in Public Affairs, Government Relations for Telecommunications, Healthcare, Municipal Water and Energy Recovery Management. Experienced in building partnerships and coalitions that drive corporate goals across multiple states in the western region of the United States. Mark currently directs Public Affairs efforts in the 13 Western states for Crown Castle Inc. Scott and Mark join A Seat at the Table with Debbie Brown to discuss microtrenching technology and upcoming legislation that would be conducive to Crown Castle and other companies speeding up broadband deployment in the state. They also discuss how the pandemic highlighted the vital importance of having access to reliable broadband internet, what opportunities they see ahead, and the general state of our country's infrastructure, and more.  Hosted by Colorado Business Roundtable President Debbie Brown.  Rate, review and subscribe on your favorite podcatcher. In the November 2022 election, to Claremont and La Verne,  the contest for Director, Division III, of the Three Valleys Municipal Water District may be one of the most important.  Seeking to take the area into the future is Javier Aguilar, an experienced and highly educated Senior Regional Planner with the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).  Javi has analyzed the data surrounding our current water situation - declining supply and prices rising faster than incomes - and believes, for the future, there are changes that can and need to be made.  In this very candid interview, Javi - self-described as non-political and practical - outlines his vision for innovation and taking new directions will provide the needed solutions to our dilemma.  He brings to light remedies at the local and regional levels, looking at breaking away from the practices of the past and treating the water that we have like the valuable resource it inarguably is.Recorded in one of Claremont's most popular, if not acoustically friendly restaurants, the ambient noise affected the sound quality.  However, it did not tarnish Javi's core messages in the least.  In answering each question, his interest, his knowledge and his passion for serving the community where he grew up comes through with crystal clarity.  This episode is another must-listen for those who understand how water is one of the most fundamental components to the quality of life here and want to make an informed decision - and have a voice - on the direction(s) to be taken in the years...generations, really...to come.  After listening, suggest to your friends they listen as well, and contact Javi with your questions, concerns or just to tell him how much you enjoyed this interview. And then be sure to vote.  Regardless of your choice, please exercise your right to be heard and vote.=============================================To contact Javi:Websitehttps://www.javiforwater.com/Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100084615410339LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/javier-aguilar-9bb92811b/Link to the League of Women Voter's recent forumhttps://youtu.be/zJPWPzbtCZgFeedback, questions, comments, constructive criticism are all welcomed and encouraged.Send to claremontspeaks@gmail.com with Feedback in the subject line, or go to the appropriate page on Claremont Speaks' website - https://www.claremontspeaks.comClaremont Speaks is a Paradise Road Media production. A small town in Florida accidentally sold its water tower in a blundered real estate transaction. A businessman purchased a municipal building underneath the city of Brooksville's water tower last April for $55,000 (¥6 million) with the goal of converting it into a gym. However, when Bobby Read went to the county to get an address for his new business location, he was told the parcel he bought included the entire water tower site, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Luckily for the town, Read was willing to give it back. County records show he transferred the water tower back to Brooksville through a warranty deed in May. The town of 8,500 residents is located 80 kilometers north of Tampa. “I don't know where the blame falls here,” said Blake Bell, a city council member. “We're council members and we rely on the city manager. We assume that he has done his due diligence.” City Manager Mark Kutney blamed the use of a bad legal description for what happened. The city's redevelopment agency director resigned after the accidental sale. “We're human. ... Sometimes we make a mistake,” Kutney said. (AP) This article was provided by The Japan Times Alpha.
