PlayStation PC has been far better than we ever imagined and we think Nixxes is Sony's biggest asset right now.
It's now obvious that Sony shouldn't have purchased Bungie back in 2022, but considering the transaction did indeed occur, both parties have to make the best out of a less-than-promising situation. After instituting a significant reduction in headcount, poaching key employees for posts within PlayStation proper, and even swiping an entire team and drafting it into PlayStation Studios, Sony has made another play, ingesting Bungie's Creative Studios to help shepherd the wider brand's future service games. How will this entire ordeal play out in the end? We're years away from finding out, but that doesn't stop us from speculating. Plus: Spider-Man 2 is getting a Nixxes-led PC port in early '25, Amazon Prime's God of War project receives a massive personnel overhaul, a recent interview with Guerrilla has some fans longing for more Killzone, and more. We wrap things up (as always) with listener inquiries. Have we reached a dead end with game design? Are 60 frames plenty, or should we ultimately strive for 120? How might Sony celebrate PlayStation 2's 25th anniversary next year? Are we able to convince a skeptical fan that -- yes, indeed! -- 'tchotchke' is a real word? Learn more about your ad choices.

700€ (512GB). Technisch ziemlich cool, leider Meta. Ansonsten alles "AI". ALLES. Was macht eigentlich "Threads"? Egal.
I dove into Ratchet And Clank Rift Apart PC gameplay yesterday, so today we ask, did the devs lie? The Ratchet And Clank Rift Apart PC port by Nixxes is receiving praise, but restarting an ongoing debate about the PS5 SSD and what Insomniac said in the past. I will give you a brief Ratchet And Clank Rift Apart PC review based on my gameplay session from yesterday as well. My experience with the Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart PC gameplay was mostly very good with some minor issues. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a 2021 third-person shooter platform game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. It is the ninth main installment in the Ratchet & Clank series and a sequel to Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus. THIS IS A REBROADCAST OF THE JUNE 16, 2023 EPISODE: In the wake of the East Palestine, Ohio derailment disaster involving tanker rail cars rupturing hazardous materials into the water and air of the good people of Ohio, Senator JD Vance (R - OH) vowed he would work with his fellow Senators to put forward a bill that would address the issues that allowed that to happen. That is, until he got a whiff of that sweet lobbyist money. We detail what happened. Then, we reveal that the normal defense El Niño provides the USA against hurricanes is being fought by a record-breakingly hot Atlantic Ocean, making it very hard to predict exactly how hurricane season is going to end up. Finally we give two news updates: one in Tennessee where a Trump-appointed Federal judge has struck down the anti-drag "Adult Entertainment Act" in its entirety, citing First Amendment protections, and the second one in Italy where a caldera is truly worrying scientists that it could erupt soon, with no less than three million people living within 30 km of it. All this and more on TMI for Friday, June 23, 2023 - listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!

As it comes to grips with the new realities of an ever-consolidating market, Sony has opted to increase its aggressiveness by purchasing Firewalk Studios. Like Haven and Nixxes before it, buying Firewalk is an unusually premature move for a company that typically likes to conduct extensive second party dances before putting a ring on it. But its arch-rival and third party publishers alike have made it clear that the old rules of buying teams no longer apply, and that courtships can no longer span the production of multiple titles. Will this increasing embrace of size benefit PlayStation or hinder it? Only time will tell, but we've obviously much to discuss. Other big news this week includes PlayStation 5's staggering sales figures, the exit of more high-level talent from Media Molecule, and much more, and we round things out -- as always -- with listener inquiries. Is enemy scaling really necessary? Could Ubisoft be readying a low-key banger with XDefiant? Do players rerally 'graduate' from Nintendo to PlayStation? Is Colin developing a hankering for gardening? The Last of Us: Part I has officially gone gold, interesting news considering it doesn't launch for some seven weeks. Yet, the upcoming PS5 remake's very existence has proven mighty contentious. Some claim it doesn't need to exist at all; many others insist it's a "cash grab" of the highest order. But some folks who worked on the game have come out staunchly in its defense, not only in terms of its sky-high quality, but also in terms of the shockingly-healthy circumstances under which it was made. We try to make sense of the hullabaloo surrounding Naughty Dog's latest before moving onto news surrounding freshly-purchased first party team Haven. A recent extensive interview seems to paint a picture of Haven as both a developer of games and of technologies and workflows, which fits in well with recent acquisitions like Nixxes, Bluepoint, Valkyrie, and even Bungie. After we get through all of that news (and more), we go into listener inquiries, including thoughts on PlayStation Plus' gravitational pull, the current JRPG renaissance we're living through, predictions for first and second party PS5 games in 2023, and one especially strange tale of a man who left a poop stain on a woman's couch. It's not 1995 anymore, or 2000, or 2006, or even 2013. During those years -- when PSone through PS4 launched in the west -- PlayStation's success revolved around what it itself can do. Its own system, its own studios, its own architecture. But in 2021? Things are changing. Sony's recent acquisition of Nixxes was all of the evidence you needed of the shifting sands, but recent interviews from ex-PlayStation CEO Shawn Layden and current PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan are incredibly illuminating when it comes to intent. After all, when Ryan is asking how a PlayStation hit selling 10 million can instead sell 100 million, he understands that can only happen by opening things up. The question is, does the audience understand too? Or is everyone about to get angry? We discuss. Plus: PS5 supply issues may ease in 2022, Konami is going both big and small, Final Fantasy's bizarre prequel has a release date, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Can third parties protect each other from consolidation? Should Sony cuddle up to Valve? Does PlayStation require more kid-friendly fare? And whatever happened to that man that pooped his pants on that date, anyway? The answer will surprise and please you. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We actually recorded our latest episode before the Switch OLED announcement, so we didn't have the same problem two weeks in a row, we recorded a special short talking about all things Nintendo Switch OLED model. Then our regular episode follows when that ends at about 25 mins in. Well, it has finally happened. The next iteration of the Nintendo Switch has been announced, but is it everything everyone hoped it would be? Sean Garmer and Marc Morrison discuss the expectations versus what was actually revealed. Are we disappointed? Are we upset? What is there to feel anymore. Also, stay tuned afterward for our regular episode # 279 about 24 minutes into this. The episode description is as follows... Of course, we are referring to bringing Housemarque, Nixxes, and possibly even Bluepoint too. Are all of these expected? What do we expect to see next? And is this better than making a bigger splash purchase? Plus, the official end of Sony Japan Studio as well. Also, a lot of controversy abounds over the decision of charging for the PlayStation 5 upgrade of the Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut. Is the $10 charge justified? Is this greed? Or does it make sense considering what's added? Are either of the guys interested in the Director's Cut at all? The guys also get into a discussion on whether or not Sony needs to do more with PlayStation NOW. Is it fine the way it is? Do is it need Day 1 games like Xbox Game Pass? Or are more quality of life changes what's in order? How about just putting a little hype behind it? Finally, the guys talk about Nintendo wanting to do more with Donkey Kong, the rumored remake of Dead Space, and also with the reveal of EA Play Spotlights ahead of the July 22 event. The major topic for this show centers around bringing back dormant EA Sports franchises and which ones could work today. Sony has finally announced a couple of first party acquisitions (and preemptively leaked a third), and while one target has been a very long time in coming, the other is out of left field, indicating that PlayStation is thinking more broadly about how, when, and in what fashion it gets its products into the world. Naturally, we delve deep, welcome Housemarque and Nixxes to the family... and pretty much do the same for Bluepoint, too, though at the time we're recording, a ring isn't yet on its finger. Plus, more news! A peculiar Konami partnership reignites persistent rumors, Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima is getting a native PS5 port and an expansion, Remedy is going all-in on Control, Falcom and NIS America are giving Trails fans exactly what they want, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Will Kevin Butler ever make a comeback? When will PlayStation 5 games come to PC? Which video game websites (if any) are worth your time?

What's this?! A morning episode?! With coffee cups firmly grasped, Matty and Dustin crawl out of bed to get the job done bright and early. Fortunately, there is plenty of exciting game news to perk us up such as Dead Space making a return. Inspired by Resident Evil 2 Remake, EA looks to revive the dormant Dead Space franchise through EA Motive. What will this renaissance in survival horror reap? Matty and Dustin analyze with sleepy eyes! In other and much bigger news, PlayStation has been making plenty of moves to bolster their offerings to fans! Housemarque, Bluepoint, and Nixxes now are officially (and unofficially) apart of the first party family. While not in an arms race with Xbox, they are acting the most aggressive we have seen them in some time. The hunger between these two companies grow as do the pissfarts! Sony continues to make waves by purchasing companies, but what can we take from the nature of the companies Sony has elected to purchase? Are the differences in philosophy between PlayStation and Xbox beginning to manifest in the acquisition market? And if technical quality really is at the heart of the Sony approach, why might it's pricing mechanisms (for things like the recently announced Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut) rub some folks the wrong way? Looking forward to the Director's Cut of Returnal 2 being remade by Bluepoint and ported to PC by NIxxes before being sold for $100...in Virtual Legality.
