This conversation explores the haunting tales of the Rohs Opera House in Cythiana, Kentucky, focusing on two main spirits: the angry man and the lady in white. The angry man is a vengeful ghost, believed to be a former patron who died under mysterious circumstances, while the lady in white is a sorrowful spirit of a performer who lost her lover tragically. Their intertwined stories contribute to the opera house's haunted reputation, making it a place of both fear and sorrow.
This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! Not all haunted theaters are draped in tragedy. The Rohs Opera House, built in the 1870s, is proof that sometimes, the ghosts just don't want to leave the show. Once on the verge of demolition, this beloved building was saved by locals who refused to let its spirit fade. And as it turns out, they weren't the only ones. Paranormal investigator Renee Hill takes us inside the walls where generations of souls still linger, enjoying the performances they once loved. If you thought the show was over… think again. This week's EYE ON NPI looks miiiiiighty familiar with those of us who love our colorful lights, it's Würth Elektronik's RGB WL-ICLED Integrated Controller Within LED (https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight/w/wurth-electronics/wl-icled-integrated-controller-within-led). WE's take on the 'smart LED' has taken over the electronics industry over the past 15 years. These ubiquitous LEDs can save you time, pins, and cost by simplifying the addition of up to a couple-dozen colorful LEDs, especially when the PCB size is at a premium. Back in my day, if you wanted to add a lot of colorful LEDs to a design, you'd have to use a dedicated LED driver chip. That is, unless your microcontroller had tons of pins, and 10mA drive current - and even then there's a total current-draw limit for the chip package. We still stock some breakouts for these like the TLC5947 (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1429) a 'chainable' SPI board that could drive 8 RGB LEDs and PWM them all for you, often with a set-able constant-current. There's still need for chips like this, but they're often kinda large, and they're not free, so using them was not a light matter. Then came the first - or close to the first - low cost chainable LED driver: the LPD8806 (https://www.adafruit.com/product/306). We wrote a library for this chip in 2011 (https://github.com/adafruit/LPD8806/commits/master/?after=1951478c2c2a8317feab9997cdfddba3728a245a+69), the way this chip worked is it could control two RGB LEDs per, with all PWM handled internally and you only needed 2 pins! This was inexpensive and worked great, but the chips were still a bit large, 14-SOICs. They were superseded by the WS2811 (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1060) which came up with using a Manchester encoding (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_code) for transport over a single line. These used even less space, and only a single pin, with an SOIC-8 package. However, the real ingenuity is when folks realized they could put the chip INSIDE the LED: and thus was born what we call "NeoPixel" (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/result?s=N4IgTCBcDaIHYFMD2AHAlgDwQGxAXQF8g) a fully chainable smart LED that only uses one pin and no external components. Now all's been right in the world, with dozens of different shapes, configurations and sizes of 'WS2812-compatible' LEDs. But there was one thing missing: a reliable source of smart LEDs. And we should know because we use a lot of these chips: and we try to warn folks that low cost LEDs have differing LED color and brightnesses, are hard to solder and rework, and suffer high failure rates in the field. Worst of all, when one fails all the ones down the line also fail! Until today you just had to cross your fingers and hope that the reel you got was from a 'good batch'. That's why we were excited to see Würth Elektronik's RGB WL-ICLED in DigiKey's NPI list, because WE is known for high quality, reliable products. Unlike most NeoPixel compatibles, this datasheet specifies the LED brightnesses and spectra. It also has RoHS, REACh and Halogen compliance. Finally, you know you'll be getting consistent quality, where each LED solders just as well as last week's or last year's batch. The WL-ICLEDs are available in 4 sizes, including the common 5x5mm and 2x2mm. Würth Elektronik also designed a cool FeatherWing (https://github.com/WurthElektronik/FeatherWings/tree/main/ICLEDFeatherWing) with hundreds of the 2x2mm ICLEDs to demo how to display animations, text, and graphics. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tCo7FSO1Gk) If you want a NeoPixel compatible LED, with trace-ability, high reliability and known functionality check out Würth Elektronik's RGB WL-ICLED (https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight/w/wurth-electronics/wl-icled-integrated-controller-within-led) available right now at DigiKey! Order today and you'll get your ready-to-assemble rainbows by tomorrow afternoon.
Today, we delve into an increasingly critical aspect of technology and electronics manufacturing - the pursuit of environmentally responsible electronics manufacturing. Our industry has witnessed many environmental revolutions. The elimination of popular cleaning solvents brought on by the Montreal Protocol in 1989, soon followed by strict VOC regulations pertaining to cleaning chemicals. The switch from lead-based solders to lead-free alloys, led by the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive, known as RoHS, implemented within the EU in 2003 and adopted nearly worldwide, regulations regarding the disposal of electronic waste (e-waste) resulting in many countries mandating regulations and programs for the safe recycling and disposal of electronic products, and more. These regulations and others have inspired some companies to seek eco-friendly alternatives to traditional printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication. The combination of numerous environmental regulations has resulted in many companies' implementation of sustainability programs. As our world becomes more connected, the demand for electronic devices continues to rise, and with it, the importance of mitigating the environmental impact of their production. On this episode of The Reliability Matters Podcast, Mike Konrad speaks with Mark S. Edwards. Mark wrote an article entitled “Environmentally Responsible Alternatives to Traditional PCB Fabrication.” He works as a strategic account manager within MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions, on the global Business Development team for Circuitry Solutions. Mark has been involved in electronics manufacturing since the late 1980s and brings a passion for process automation, circuit assembly, solders/fluxes, adhesives, coatings and PCB fabrication – all with a focus on repeatability and reliability. Edwards holds a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering technology from Oklahoma State University and began his career at a defense electronics company in Dallas, Texas, that was later acquired by Raytheon. He has uncovered trends and synthesized customer needs for electronic hardware in the telecommunications, defense, automotive, industrial controls segments in the Americas, and now globally, in his newest role. Dr. Cassandra Zentner is the Vice President of Technology and Sustainability at actnano, the global leader in PFAS-free nanocoatings used to protect circuit boards across industries. Actano was created after the CEO, while working at a different company, saw factory workers getting sick from handling traditional coatings. Actnano's technology is currently protecting many of the world's foremost consumer electronic brands, safeguarding millions of vehicles, and defending numerous industrial applications against harsh electrical and environmental conditions. Cassandra leads actnano's implementation of innovative protective materials. While driving customer-focused technical initiatives, she also leads the company's sustainability efforts and commitment to protecting human health and the environment. She brings her scientific background—a PhD in Chemistry from MIT—to drive actnano's mission to bring safer chemical alternatives to the electronics industry. In this episode, we discuss: ● PFAS—what they are and why they present a huge problem ● The meaning of “safer chemicals” ● The importance of prevention versus mitigation Key Takeaways: ● Takeaway 1: Innovating Out of a Broken System. When actnano founder Taymur Ahmad noticed the harmful impact of PFAS in protective coatings, he didn't just stand by. He saw a broken system as a call to action. A puzzle to be solved. By developing PFAS-free nano-coating he stepped up as a true innovator, showing us that discovering a broken system is the first step towards creating a solution. It's a reminder that the world benefits immensely from changemakers like Taymur, who not only dream up safer alternatives but also pave the way for others to adopt these groundbreaking solutions in their operations. ● Takeaway 2: The Invisible Threats Among Us. We're naturally drawn to the big, obvious problems. The proverbial elephant in a room. Yet, it's often what we can't see that poses the greater danger. PFAS, a prevalent yet invisible threat found in countless everyday items—from electronics to personal care products—carries serious health risks, including certain cancers, fertility issues, and developmental delays in children. This hidden danger reminds us that sometimes the most significant threats to our well-being lurk out of sight, challenging us to look beyond the obvious. ● Takeaway 3: Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind. Then there are the enormous issues we choose to ignore, like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an immense span of waterborne waste twice the size of Texas, floating in the middle of the Pacific without much attention. This "plastic continent" is a stark example of "out of sight, out of mind," yet its impact on our health and environment is profound. Microplastics, including those containing PFAS, break away from this mass, infiltrating the seafood we eat and carrying with them a host of health risks. It's a clear signal that just because we can't see a problem, or a problem feels far from home, doesn't mean it's any less real or harmful. This unseen danger serves as a critical wake-up call to the interconnectedness of our global ecosystem and the hidden impacts on our health. In this episode of The Hidden Truth, we dive deep into the Christian fellowship that has maintained a painful silence for years. Lauren Rohs joins us as our guest, sharing her experiences growing up in the fellowship and shedding light on its strict beliefs and lack of meaningful friendships. We explore the evolution of the fellowship from her great-grandparents' era to the present day, and Lauren takes us on her personal journey of questioning and eventually leaving the community. We delve into the unsettling aspects of control and the fear of asking questions that pervade the community. Lauren also shares her passion for playing the piano and her admiration for Rachmaninoff. Moving beyond her life within the fellowship, Lauren discusses her experiences as a stripper and the difficult decision to give her child up for adoption. We explore her attempts to reconcile with her family and the shocking revelations she uncovered about her father's abusive behavior. Throughout the conversation, I stress the importance of storytelling and the urgent need for radical change and reparations within the community. We discuss the fear and avoidance that prevent people from facing the truth and the devastating consequences of maintaining the status quo, particularly in cases of child sex abuse. As the main speakers, we emphasize the significance of breaking the silence and exposing the harmful behavior that persists within the fellowship. We liken the secrecy to a form of "child sacrifice," as it allows the abuse to continue unchecked. We express our outrage at those who dismiss these crimes due to their occurrence in the past, highlighting the ignorance and disrespect towards survivors. Drawing parallels to commemoration events like 9/11, we stress that the ongoing impact of these crimes necessitates support for survivors and a refusal to uphold appearances. Quoting Jesus' teachings on the consequences of harming children, we condemn those who enable and cover up the abuse in the fellowship. We discuss the trauma triangle and the critical step of removing oneself from enabling abusive behavior. We highlight the magnitude of the problem, likening it to the reputation of the Catholic Church for enabling and covering up abuse. We encourage listeners feeling overwhelmed to recognize their role and take action, promoting awareness and change. Expressing the need to stop being complicit and withdraw support from the system that enables child sex abuse, we acknowledge that making a change will take time but is absolutely possible. We express perplexity over the failure of educated individuals to recognize child sex abuse as a crime, perhaps due to flawed theology or doctrine that prioritizes personal salvation over speaking up against the institution. As the main speakers, we point out the dangerous dynamics of a system where overseers are complicit with perpetrators. We reflect on our decision to write a letter to the overseers, knowing it wouldn't result in their stepping down but hoping to set a precedent for speaking out against those in power. We acknowledge that while some people may still idolize these individuals, survivors' stories and the accompanying data should be enough to wake people up. Despite the recognition that survivors shouldn't have to repeatedly share their stories to be taken seriously, we discuss the importance of their narratives in leaving a lasting impact on listeners. We express a willingness to watch the organization implode if it means justice for survivors. As an outsider looking in, we share the mixed response we've received, ranging from praise to vilification, but state that we've become immune to both. We express frustration at encountering individuals who should know better, such as a lawyer who wants survivors to come to him for information despite being close friends with a perpetrator. We emphasize the need for policy changes in light of the crisis, underscoring the lack of protection for children within the community. Expressing concern for educated individuals who refuse to acknowledge the need for systemic change, I share my personal frustration, particularly within my own family who dismiss my efforts and label me as crazy. I stress that those who speak out against abuse are not the ones condemned to hell; rather, it is the actions of the child predators themselves. I call on others to focus their anger on the perpetrators and take action by not supporting them financially or granting them authority. As the main speaker, I urge fence sitters to reckon with the issue and take an active role in the fight against abuse. I emphasize that survivors are not obligated to share their stories, placing the responsibility on the complicit community to take action and disrupt the status quo. In conclusion, we express our gratitude to Lauren for sharing her time and her important work. We stress that the focus should be on the thousands of survivors who need support and justice. As a community, we owe them our love, support, and assistance. Thank you for tuning in to The Hidden Truth, and please remember to subscribe and share to help us reach and inspire more people. It is crucial that these stories are heard to raise awareness and support the survival of victims.

In this episode of the ESG Report, Cally Edgren and Devin O'Herron of Assent join Tom Fox to discuss product compliance and sustainability. They explore how the two worlds are starting to intersect. Making sure products meet regulatory requirements is what product compliance is all about. In recent years, the requirements have been changing. There used to be a focus on safety features like mechanical and electrical safety, but things changed with the RoHS Directive in 2002. That directive was meant to make sure electronic waste from third-world countries was safe. "The RoHS directive and the EU Ecodesign Directive require compliance, or you cannot sell in locations where they are effective," Cally remarks. It was one of the first times a regulatory rule had more to do with sustainability than traditional product safety. Manufacturers need to understand that their customers are no longer just concerned with what they hold in their hands at the end of the process - they want to make sure that their suppliers are using responsible processes. The two worlds of operations compliance and product compliance are starting to connect. "What I am seeing and what I have experienced is we are starting to merge the environmental into the more traditional product safety," Cally says. As we become increasingly aware of the importance and relevance of the social and environmental costs associated with manufacturing processes and the barrier they present towards sustainability, ESG metrics represent another way of managing and measuring these externalities. Tonight Travis and I are recording live from Rohs Opera House. This small-town theater is located in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Rohs Opera House is well known for its paranormal activity once the lights go out. The activity ranges from shadow figures, weird noises, and, like many other locations, a lady in white roaming the halls. This was Travis's first time at this historical theater, but I have been here several times. I have had many experiences that can't be rationally explained. Is Roh's Opera House one of the most haunted places in Kentucky? I can't say for sure, but there is most certainly something going on here. https://anchor.fm/phillip-sams https://shop.spreadshirt.com/gitn-paranormal-merch http://www.youtube.com/c/GhostsInTheNight https://www.facebook.com/ghostsinthenight/ http://linkedin.com/in/ghosts-in-the-night-paranormal-podcast-6369971b6 https://twitter.com/night_ghosts https://www.patreon.com/gitnpodcast --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/phillip-sams/message

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.11.03.366690v1?rss=1 Authors: Oberbeckmann, E., Krietenstein, N., Niebauer, V., Wang, Y., Schall, K., Moldt, M., Straub, T., Rohs, R., Hopfner, K.-P., Korber, P., Eustermann, S. Abstract: The fundamental molecular determinants by which ATP-dependent chromatin remodelers organize nucleosomes across eukaryotic genomes remain largely elusive. Here, chromatin reconstitutions on physiological, whole-genome templates reveal how remodelers read and translate genomic information into nucleosome positions. Using the yeast genome and the multi-subunit INO80 remodeler as a paradigm, we identify DNA shape/mechanics encoded signature motifs as sufficient for nucleosome positioning and distinct from known DNA sequence preferences of histones. INO80 processes such information through an allosteric interplay between its core- and Arp8-modules that probes mechanical properties of nucleosomal and linker DNA. At promoters, INO80 integrates this readout of DNA shape/mechanics with a readout of co-evolved sequence motifs via interaction with general regulatory factors bound to these motifs. Our findings establish a molecular mechanism for robust and yet adjustable +1 nucleosome positioning and, more generally, remodelers as information processing hubs that enable active organization and allosteric regulation of the first level of chromatin. ITSA exists to provide a favourable operating environment for the benefit of the interconnect market and to provide a dynamic network for exploring and co-operating on mutually beneficial opportunities. Key to this success is the collation of key technology and market statistical data.At a gathering in London, John Biggs, Chairman of the association, and a selection of association members including LEMO, Harwin and Binder, explained the reasons behind the rebrand what ITSA can offer to its members as the voice of the industry.ITSA has a presence on several standards bodies where the aim is to influence both current and future changes to standards affecting the interconnection sector. These include the appropriate BSI standards committees as well as RoHS compliance and exemption groups like the Oko Institute and the RoHS umbrella group.Market conditions and dynamics are extremely important to companies and will affect their choice of markets served as well as how they go to those markets. The sharing of non-confidential data is an important part of ITSA’s mission and members consider this to be a very useful status check on their own experience. The association’s quarterly statistics and commentary provide members with accurate and prompt quarterly summaries on the status of the UK connector market. This allows members to compare their performance to that of their peer group. The statistics are also used to help assess the market annually. Members can use these assessments to review their own market development and strategy. Many members use ITSA’s accurate numbers to assess the quality of commercially available and expensive market reports.
Welcome to our first episode of The Herbalist's Path where we're on a mission to inspire a movement where there's an herbalist in every home, again! In today's episode we have a chat with Missy Rohs, herbalist, activist, teacher, and Cofounder of The Arctos School of Botanical of Herbal & Botanicals Studies. We take a deep dive into her Herbalist's Path where she first got introduced to herbalism through reading Punk Scenes. She joined the Black Cross Health Collective where she first started learning about how to administer first aid in activism situations. She found that she was surrounded by a group of ER nurses, massage therapists, herbalists, nurse practitioners and other health care practitioners, and she needed to learn more about health. She began taking some classes from some of the other Black Cross Health Collective members such as Colette Gardiner, and Krista Olson.A bit later a new partner got her interested in gardening and took her on weekly hikes. She learned about how you can walk down a path in the forest, and get to know the plants, and how to use them. These plants quickly became her friends! She later took the leap to learn more and went down south to learn from Michael Moore and Donna Chesner. She talks about how you become an herbalist when You use plants for their medicinal properties. Even if it means you're just using ginger when you're sick, or peppermint for an upset stomach.Lately she's been loving listening to Julie James of Green Wisdom Herbal Studies, and her Monday morning classes that are available live on Facebook, 9 am PST. One of my teachers Lydia Barthalow, and now at her own school Arctos School of Botanical Studies, she has been able to add her own guest teachers to the list. Her first tincture she ever made was an echinacea tincture she made in college. Garth Caul taught a class on how to make a tincture with fresh echinacea tincture, and she was lucky enough to be in the dorm where the tincture was steeping. She ended up with a ½ gallon jar of echinacea tincture in the end! Bonus! She talks about how echinacea can boost your immunity and help your white blood cells fight off illness. If you're a beginning herbalist, Missy recommend trying to work with one herb at a time so you can get to know and feel that plant and how it works for you personally. She talks about trying a nettles infused vinegar, a hawthorn tincture, or even a plantain poultice. She fell in love with her Pojar & McKinnon Plant ID book, and Rosemary Gladstar's Herbal Recipes for Virabtan Health, or The Family Herbal, Also she loves the Rosale De La Foret's Alchemy for Herbs. The one herb Missy wishes everyone knew about would be dandelion because it grows almost everywhere on this continent. She loves using common weeds for medRegister For Our FREE 3-Day LIVE Immune Boosting Workshop. Learn why herbalism is the most sustainable way to keep you & your family healthy and well. By Adam Turteltaub Supply chains are emerging as an increasingly complex risk area for compliance. The risk includes trade compliance, vendor management issues associated with cyber/privacy, product compliance, REACH, ROHS and California Proposition 65 , all the way into CSR and supply chain transparency controls such as conflict minerals and modern slavery requirements. Even packaging can be a concern. As Travis Miller, General Counsel of Assent Compliance explains in this podcast, to get a full picture of the risk it comes down to breaking down silos and creating centralization. This prevents blind spots where supply chain and CSR/transparency issues can occur. In addition, if data is stored in different places, it's impossible, he argues, to make strategic decisions, to incorporate requirements adequately into sourcing requirements, and to determine if product can be sold into a market or not. For ongoing auditing and monitoring he advises focusing on three areas. First, are the known knowns: all the information you know you have in the company and then putting it all in one place. The second area is your known unknowns: information that the company knows exists but doesn't have. Third, look at that data and make sure there are no discrepancies. Listen in to learn more about these issues and what do if the supplier doesn’t adequately respond to your questions. And, for an ongoing resource on the issue of supply chains, be sure to check out our Report on Supply Chain Compliance.

Thank you for checking out Ghosts In The Night. In this episode, I go over the time I spent inside the Rohs Opera House with the Cincinnati Ghost Chasers. This building is old and as soon as you walk inside you feel like you've been transported back in time. The theater has the appearance of being very creepy and several paranormal groups have had experiences to back that spooky reputation up. However, even with its paranormal exterior, I never once felt like I shouldn't be there or any overwhelming desires you leave. All and all, it was an excellent investigation, and we caught some impressive audio and photographic anomalies. Frankie, the co-founder of Cincinnati Ghost Chasers, joins me to discuss the history and our overall experiences from that investigation.
