If you've ever felt powerless around food, it's not because you're lacking discipline. It's because your hunger hormones are in the driver's seat.Behind the scenes, hunger hormones like ghrelin, leptin, cortisol, and insulin are constantly working to regulate your appetite and energy. But when things like poor sleep, skipped meals, or a diet heavy in processed foods throw those hormones off balance, it can feel like your cravings are calling the shots. That's exactly why I created the FREE 3-Day Hunger Hormone Reset Mini Video Series—to help you stop blaming yourself and start working with your hormones instead of against them. This episode gives you a sneak peek into one key player: ghrelin, your body's internal food radar. Send me a Text Message! There is power in words. We know it because we've been on the receiving side of words that encouraged and words that destroyed. There are times when you've been so impacted by words, that in your heart of hearts you know what Solomon meant when he wrote in Proverbs 15:4, "The tongue the brings healing is a tree of life, but a lie crushes the spirit." Words can hurt. Words can give life. Words can seem to be heaven-sent and words can burn like hell. And sometimes, we just need a button for our mouths! :)

If you think Cabernet Sauvignon is the only Cabernet, you've got another think coming (as Joe's mom used to say). Cabernet Franc is on the rise, and it's time to get on the bandwagon. Most famously from the Loire Valley, Cabernet Franc has for too long been the understudy to wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, often primarily used as a blending grape. But today you can find Cabernet Franc as the star of the show, bottled as its own varietal from vineyards all over the world. Part of the reason winemakers are starting to make more of it is because it is a wine that does a great job of reflecting the place where it is from - the nerds call that terroir - and so winemakers like it because they can make their own unique versions from wherever they are. We'll break down what makes this wine different from Cabernet Sauvignon, and we taste and review a couple of Cabernet Francs to save you the trouble. Wines reviewed in this episode: 2022 Henri Bourgeois Wine Petit Bourgeois Cabernet Franc, 2020 Kaiken Indomito Cabernet FrancSend us a Text Message and we'll respond in our next episode!Contact The Wine Pair Podcast - we'd love to hear from you!Visit our website, leave a review, and reach out to us: https://thewinepairpodcast.com/Follow and DM us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewinepairpodcast/Send us an email: joe@thewinepairpodcast.com

Send me a Text Message! We are back to the book of James. In this episode we will review James 1-2 a bit, and then in the next episode we dive into chapter 3. You know in reality the book of James is all about wisdom, practical wisdom, not just philosophical wisdom, but how to live life right. Wisdom that works. James says a lot about prayer, but he also says a lot about the Word. No spiritual practices are more important than the Word and prayer. It's that breathing in and breathing out. We listen to the Word and learn from the Word, but if our listening and learning doesn't end with leaning...leaning into the Word, the Word won't work. Wisdom begins in knowing, but if it doesn't end in doing, it doesn't work. So not long from now, we'll hear James say in 3:13, "If you are wise and understand God's ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom."Prove it. It's not enuf to say that you are wise. Prove it by how you live. God's wisdom has a certain look to it. So prove it.

But during this week+ break, I'm reposting some Psalms that I've chosen, specifically to hit some themes of our current series, "A Life of Prayer." The themes include scripture, prayer, trusting God, and thriving. If you are anything like me, reading the book of James brings some stuff to the surface of my heart that brings conviction of my mess. Psalm 51 takes us into the heart of a deeply personal prayer of confession and repentance. It's a prayer prayed by David when he was caught in sin. David's heart was pierced with conviction and burdened by guilt and Psalm 51 is a heartfelt response to that sin. It's a raw and vulnerable cry for mercy. David doesn't justify or minimize what he did, he simply lays his soul bare before God.
Dr. Scott Vrzal shares groundbreaking insights on how headaches serve as crucial warning signals from your body, revealing deeper health issues you might not know about. After suffering from debilitating headaches himself, Dr. Vrzal's journey led him to discover that most headaches aren't actually problems with your head at all – they're referred pain from other organs and systems in your body.In this compelling conversation with Dr. Philip Ovadia, Dr. Vrzal explains how the location of your headache can pinpoint specific organ dysfunctions: right-sided headaches often indicate gallbladder issues, left-sided headaches suggest stomach problems, and tension headaches frequently point to thyroid dysfunction. This knowledge isn't just theoretical – Dr. Vrzal has used these connections to help patients who haven't found relief through conventional approaches.Beyond headaches, Dr. Vrzal discusses how muscle testing, nutrition, and addressing emotional components play critical roles in achieving lasting wellness. His approach challenges conventional thinking by focusing on root causes rather than symptom management, offering viewers practical tools to interpret their own body's signals before they become serious health concerns.Learn why Dr. Vrzal calls this "The Headache Advantage" and how understanding these connections could transform your approach to health, prevent unwanted symptoms, and possibly keep you off the operating table.BIG IDEAMost headaches are not problems with your head at all but are referred pain from other organs and systems in your body, serving as critical warning signals that something needs attention.Dr. Scott Vrzal Contact Info:Website: https://www.drvrzal.com/Book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCNYNHKZFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Dr.Scott.j.Vrzal/Send Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. Luke and Alex Talk Diablo IV.In this episode, Alex and Luke dive into Diablo IV, Blizzard Entertainment's long-awaited sequel to the legendary action RPG series. Released in June 2023, Diablo IV brings players back to the dark, demon-infested world of Sanctuary with a new open-world structure, seasonal play, and a whole lot of skeleton-clicking chaos. At the time of this recording, Diablo IV holds a Metacritic score of 86. According to HowLongToBeat, the main story clocks in around 26 hours—though depending on your build, your class, or how easily distracted you get by side dungeons, it can stretch much longer.Alex played on both PC and Steam Deck and completed the main questline. Luke stuck to PC and is still meandering through Sanctuary like a cursed tourist. Together, they talk about their first real dip into the Diablo franchise, how the seasonal structure actually works, and why the always-online thing feels just forgivable enough. This episode is unofficially brought to you in part by Disc Golf.Audio Credits: “Cathedral” by Leo Kaliski, from the Diablo IV Original Soundtrack — composed by Leo Kaliski, Ted Reedy, Ryan Amon, and Derek Duke — © Blizzard Entertainment. You know the feeling: you start a new health habit with enthusiasm, but within days (or hours), that inner voice kicks in. "This five-minute walk doesn't even count." "Why bother with one vegetable when I should be meal prepping for the entire week?" "If I can't do it perfectly, I might as well not do it at all."If that sounds familiar, you're caught in the perfectionism trap—and it's quietly sabotaging every health goal you set. The problem isn't your lack of willpower or motivation. It's that you've been conditioned to believe that anything less than perfect isn't worth doing. So you end up doing nothing, stuck in an endless cycle of elaborate plans that never get started and ambitious goals that always fall short. But what if those "insignificant" five-minute moments were actually the secret to lasting change? What if good enough was not only okay—but the key to everything you want?In this episode, I break down why perfectionism is the real enemy of progress and share two powerful strategies that will transform how you think about health habits.ReferencesKara Loewentheil: Perfectionist Fantasies + Tomorrow ThinkingAtomic Habits by James ClearAudio Stamps00:30 - Dr. Rentea defines perfectionism as "never good enough" and explains why 99% of people dismiss their health progress and set unrealistic goals.02:58 - The farmer analogy: How five-minute health actions accumulate like harvesting crops to fill your wellness "pantry" over time.07:20 - "Don't miss it twice" - the key strategy for maintaining health momentum when life gets in the way.12:52 - How to go from "passive action" (consuming content) to "massive action" (actually implementing one small change).15:48 - James Clear's insights on what prevents people from reaching potential: lacking courage, trying to please everyone, and dividing attention between too many goals.Enrollment is now open for the September 30/30 program! In this week's episode, I'm sharing why The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy is one of the most powerful things I've ever read. It's only 53 pages, but it forced me to rethink how I'm living, what I'm chasing, and whether I'm being honest with myself. We'll break down what this book is really about (spoiler: it's not just death), how it gets under your skin, and why it might be the wake-up call you didn't know you needed.
