The Basilica of St. Mary Institute for Faith and Culture Presents: Beauty and the Beast, an Exploration of the Power of Beauty, Part 2 With Fr. James Searby  In this second episode of Beauty and the Beast, we step deeper into the story itself and uncover why this simple tale carries so much spiritual and human truth. Fr. James Searby explores the opening arc of the Beast, not as a children's plot point, but as a mirror of our own culture's drift into subjectivism, hurry, and the loss of virtue. Drawing from the older French versions of the tale, the golden age of Disney storytelling, and the wisdom of Aquinas, Balthasar, Plato, John Paul II, Simone Weil, and more, he shows how beauty forms the soul and why its absence slowly makes us less human. Belle's contemplative posture in a frantic village becomes a lesson in resisting the rush of modern life, while the Beast's curse reveals what happens when we turn inward and forget who we are. This episode opens up the rose, the mirror, the meaning of enchantment, and the hard truth that love and beauty both require us to slow down and see reality again. It's a thoughtful, richly layered conversation that will change the way you watch the film and the way you understand your own hunger for what is beautiful, noble, and true.

Each Disney Princess movie is set in a different time and part of the world. For many they are a first glimpse of history and cultures outside of our own. But have you ever wondered what life was really like for your favorite Disney Princess? Let's take a look at each of Disney's 16 animated Princesses, including the latest addition, Asha, to determine where and when they are most likely set. Then I'll match each iconic princess to a real-life royal woman from the same time and place. So we can get a sense of what life without witches, curses and singing animal sidekicks was really like. In some cases there are interesting similarities; Eugénie de Montijo really did go from rags to riches like Cinderella, Catherine of Valois was a sleeping beauty like Aurora and Mihrimah Sultan was a respected leader like Jasmine. So put on your ballgown and tiara, or strap on your armor and let's compare Disney Princesses to real history! Part 1: Snow White - Maria Anna of Bavaria, Archduchess of Austria Cinderella - Eugénie de Montijo, Empress of the French Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) - Catherine of Valois, Queen of England Ariel (The Little Mermaid) - Louise of Hesse-Kassel, Queen of Denmark Belle (Beauty and the Beast) - Maria Josepha of Saxony, Dauphine of France Jasmine (Aladdin) - Mihrimah Sultan, Ottoman Princess Pocahontas - The historic Pocahontas Mulan - Xiao, Empress of the Sui dynasty Part 2: Tiana (The Princess and the Frog) - Ariana Austin Makonnen, Princess of Ethiopia Rapunzel (Tangled) - Louise of Prussia, Princess of the Netherlands Merida (Brave) - Matilda of Scotland, Queen of England Elsa & Anna (Frozen) - Princess Eugénie of Sweden & Norway Moana - Nafanua, Ali'i of Samoa Raya and the Last Dragon - Trưng Sisters of Vietnam Asha (Wish) - Fatima bint al-Ahmar, Princess of the Emirate of Granada Join me every Tuesday when I'm Spilling the Tea on History! "Guests have become more sophisticated and our product needs to follow suit." Disney Theme Parks have always been at the top when it comes to large scale, interactive entertainment attractions. Doris Hardoon is a legendary Imagineer, and we don't use that term lightly. Her creative vision has graced every Disney Castle Park on the planet, from EPCOT to Disneyland and Disneyland Paris to Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney Cruise Line, and beyond. Doris took a break from Disney to run her own design firm working on museums and other interactive design, but she returned to Disney as the executive creative director and producer for Shanghai Disney Resort. Her career at Disney theme parks and entertainment design has spanned over four decades. She joins us on REPOD to share her design philosophy and some life advice for aspiring designers. She's had a very interesting path in her career, starting with working as a model and becoming a well-known folk singer in Hong Kong in the 1960s and 70s. I especially enjoyed hearing her talk about working on the global theme parks and how “It's important to culturally understand who you're creating the happiest places on earth for.” She talks about how to design spaces that appeal to the local audience while still maintaining an authentic Disney experience. She's now turned much of her time to mentoring the next generation of entertainment designers. In this episode, Doris shares some reflections and advice on how to build the right team to support your creative vision. She also talks about how to manage corporate politics, especially when it comes to large creative companies like Walt Disney Imagineering. Doris Hardoon is a true legend, and I hope you find this episode as inspiring as I did.   Full Show Notes   Episode Sponsors We are immensely grateful to our sponsors this season: REA Patreon Backers, PG's Playhouse, Buzzshot, and COGS. Everybody loves a good origin story, but not every story is worth retelling. The real skill is knowing when to evolve, not repeat. That's the lesson of Andor, the Star Wars series that turned subtle storytelling into a strategy for lasting relevance. In this episode, we explore its B2B marketing takeaways with the help of our special guest Rachel Sterling, CMO of Identity Digital. Together, we break down what B2B marketers can learn from spotting product fatigue early, tailoring stories for evolving audiences, and creating content that sparks conversation, not just clicks.About our guest, Rachel SterlingRachel Sterling serves as Chief Marketing Officer where she is focused on expanding Identity Digital's impact on driving awareness and adoption of our top level domain portfolio. Prior to joining Identity Digital, Rachel held senior leadership positions at Proximie, Instagram, Twitter, and Google where she developed impactful strategies around product, integrated, content, and event marketing.Rachel also possesses a creative background, spending the first eight years of her career working in TV production and post-production. Rachel lives in Belmont, CA with her husband and two children. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Andor:Recognize when the story has run its course. Just like Disney realized Luke Skywalker's arc had reached its limits, Rachel ties that lesson to brand fatigue. Audiences, like customers, eventually want something new. As she puts it: “Their main characters had been exhausted… you have to consistently monitor for user sentiment.” Andor worked because it didn't cling to nostalgia; it built from a blank slate. In B2B, that means knowing when your message or product line has hit its ceiling and having the courage to reinvent before your audience tunes out.Segment for meaning, not just demographics. Disney didn't make Andor for everyone. It made it for the fans who grew up with A New Hope. Rachel explains: “By exploring more mature themes, you're building content specifically for the core audience that had been there since the very beginning.” The same rule applies in B2B. As your audience evolves, so should your tone, themes, and depth. Mature buyers crave nuance; new ones need accessibility. Build the right story for the right segment, and you'll meet each generation where they are, not where they were.Make content that talks back. Rachel points out that Andor isn't a passive show. It demands engagement long after the credits roll. As she says: “Content no longer exists in a passive experience… The sign of a good show is when you can engage in conversation beyond just a simple, ‘that was good.'” In B2B, the same holds true. The best content doesn't just get attention; it gets people talking, sharing, and connecting around a shared idea. Don't settle for applause, aim for conversation that keeps your brand in motion.Quote“Just because you feel affinity for the product does not mean that people will continue to share that affinity. I definitely think that marketers, from seeing the decision that Disney made to Greenlight Andor, can take away the message [to] understand when you have product fatigue.”Time Stamps[00:55] Meet Rachel Sterling, Chief Marketing Officer at Identity Digital[01:51] Why Andor?[03:36] The Role of CMO at Identity Digital[04:45] What is Andor?[22:32] B2B Marketing Lessons from Andor[42:14] Identity Digital's Brand and Content Strategy[45:52] Advice for First-Time CMOs[48:27] Final Thoughts and TakeawaysLinksConnect with Rachel on LinkedInLearn more about Identity DigitalAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company.
