One of the hardest things I ever have to tell anyone is that to get their dog over separation anxiety, they need to find ways not to leave their dog in the meantime. It never goes down well. And I get that. I mean, when you get a dog the last thing you sign up for is not even being able to go out to get a pint of milk without your dog howling down the house. But the thing is, in order for the gold standard separation anxiety treatment (gradual exposure) to work, we have to stop dogs having exposure to scary alone time. I do get how impossible hard this can be, though. I wouldn't suggest it if there were any other way.  That's why, in this latest episode, I explain why we need to do this. Have you ever been so caught up in the process of creating something, you wind up losing sight of what you wanted as an end product? Hard work and ambition are admirable, especially when invested in the creation of new and exciting technologies. However, it is easy to get lost in the mechanics of work and to forget about the vision that inspired you to take up the mantle in the first place. In this episode, Alexander McCaig and Jason Rigby discuss the negative impact of the ongoing tech race on humanity—and how we can fix it. Are We Real-Life Inspector Gadgets?: Jason pointed out a discussion made by Aubrey Marcus that was pertinent to humanity's current situation. It was about how Inspector Gadget was dependent on his niece, Penny, to solve crimes and figure out cases. However, he always thought that he was the one responsible for saving the world when he created all sorts of new and complex technologies. Several parallels can be seen between humanity and Inspector Gadget. One is that despite our desire to foster peace and understanding, we do not approach such lofty goals with a concrete plan nor with small actions, we can commit to on a daily basis.  Another is in our obsession to constantly develop new and exciting technologies without a clear end goal in mind. Since the 1800s, when humans started experimenting with the implications of automating routine activities and making work more efficient, there has been a tendency to look at technology as a way to bring about heaven on earth.  However, utopia cannot be achieved just by perfecting the physical aspect of our world. It's also about the parts of our human experience that are not tangible, such as our understanding of one another. The work we put in research and development can easily become divorced from our understanding of each other, and of nature when we forget about using technology to co-create with nature and not around it. Technology Is Not the Key to Happiness: Why do we keep losing our way? According to Jason, it is because we believe that more tech automatically makes us more happy—even though there was never an assurance that increasingly sophisticated technologies would bring us more fulfillment.  If modern technology is being used to process and analyze data at the speed of light, why don't we turn to nature for inspiration more? Nature is constantly generating and giving data. The problem now is we are stuck churning out technology just for the sake of having it. When it comes to smartphones, it seems like we have plenty of new models to choose from every year. Plenty of people plan their finances around the next flagship device to be released, immediately letting go of the ones they just bought as they chase the next best thing. However, there was never a need to let go of so much tech. Their main function was to serve as tools for us to make better decisions, but not to hold our hand and teach us how to make these better decisions ourselves.  What's this extravagant tech race all about? What are we trying to reach for? Constructing the Tech Tower of Babel: Perhaps we invest in the latest technologies in the hopes that it can give us a deeper understanding of ourselves.  “We've had great advances in technology, but why has there not been a correlation of war and death going down? Why has human happiness not gone up? Right? Why have all these prevalent diseases increased?” Alex asked, “It's because we still lack understanding. The technology hasn't been designed to understand one another.” We could start using technology to start asking and answering difficult questions. How many times have we been placed in uncomfortable situations, and in which ones can we confidently say that we had the knowledge we needed to exit the circumstance with grace? Sometimes, our minds take shortcuts when we need to work through complex problems so that we do not overburden ourselves— but when we start relying on ducking into the side alleys to get to the destination, we do not get a full perspective of what we are truly dealing with. In this episode, Alexander McCaig and Jason Rigby discuss the harmful tendency to live lives within our little bubbles, comfort zones, and echo chambers. They point to how data can show us the ultimate truth and the objective reality—and why we need to start paying attention. Zero and the Inter-Dimension: Right off the bat, Alexander and Jason kickstarted the discussion by comparing the function of our choices to the number line, with zero as the space where there is no value. The positives lie to the right dimension of zero, while the negatives make up the left dimension. This makes zero, as the middle point, an inter-dimension of sorts. We choose to pivot one way or another when faced with difficult events and circumstances in life. However, we may not always have the full capacity to make the best-informed choice. It is human nature to sit within our own comfort zones and echo chambers, because we like information that validates us and exchanges where we know what to do. Our best solution lies in harnessing the power of data. Regardless of religion, political affiliation, or social class, data is capable of making us question the distorted lens we view reality with. We have the opportunity to hold ourselves responsible for our thought processes and interactions with the help of data, instead of continuing to live our lives in a passive manner.  It is difficult to face the reality that we may not be making the most out of our lives now. After all, procrastination is a natural human instinct.  “When you stagnate and you don't afford yourself new catalysts. It's like you're working with the same old data set every single day. What's there to be learned? The data sets [have] stopped.” Alexander explained.  Data as the Ultimate Truth: We underestimate the power of an objective and apolitical observer in our lives, which is what data represents. It captures our thoughts, actions, and perceptions— even the ugly parts of us that are distorted. This could be caused by a subconscious adherence to tradition, lifestyle, beliefs, values, ignorance, and others.  These misconceptions affect our openness to other people. We may become upset because they do not follow the same thought processes or behavioral patterns we do. In the long term, it could isolate us from other people or communities because it feeds into an us versus them mentality.  A lack of self-awareness does not just have an impact on our quality of life, or the lives of those around us. We slowly become vulnerable to the whims of more influential figures, who do not have any qualms with exploiting the minorities and pandering to the needs of the masses for personal gain.  Since data represents the ultimate truth, we need to harness its power for ourselves. It can empower us to make better decisions on so many levels. We deserve the truth and the ability to make better choices. Closing Thoughts: Overcoming Cognitive and Personal Bias: While the capacity to make better choices is a reward in and of itself, it can now be an opportunity to be financially compensated as well. One common misconception of data is that it is out of reach for many of us: a confusing mixture of encrypted numbers, letters, and other symbols that do not really hold any significance for the general populace. However, recent developments have translated these massive repositories of data and made it possible for us to access that only media conglomerates have had before. As a result, we also have access to parts of ourselves that we used to take for granted or outgrow, in the past. We have a renewed perspective on individual thoughts and behaviors. The data we have on why individuals think or behave a certain way can help us unravel these complex issues at a fundamental level, and we can work on improving ourselves from the grassroots. These data deposits have insights on what they are locally challenged with, which means that people can look into how or why they are affected: what triggers the event, what exacerbates it, and what they can do to manage these thought processes in a healthy manner. As a community, data is the key to showing different communities how their perceptions or preconceived biases lead to trouble within their locality. It serves as the bridge to solving these problems and finding understanding amongst different groups.  Clearly, data is more than just a catalyst for the hard sciences. It is our way of advancing in the social sciences as well. We can take that power for ourselves and analyze the data to improve our quality of living as individuals, communities, and as humanity. Life After Death With Data Sets: At the rate we are going, most of our life experiences are captured and stored in the digital space. In terms of speed, consistency, and accuracy, it's clearly the superior way of retaining human knowledge in comparison to word of mouth and paper. There is no need to worry about human error or the cost of maintaining a printing press.  It is interesting to think that data, which is intangible and stored in a virtual space, is derived from physical events and goes on to influence physical events as well. Data is a medium capable of capturing experience, thought and life—even long after the data source passes away.  What are the implications of this on the human experience? Having most of our lives recorded in data packets means that we can continue to have an impact on future generations in more tangible ways. Our lives on earth have more potential to have a bigger impact even after our passing, because our data perseveres beyond the memories of our family, friends, and written documents.  Closing Thoughts: Data and Its Effect on Human Consciousness: Alex mulled over his belief of a future where everything is captured by technology. All our actions and decisions are subject to analysis, down to the smallest details—and the people on the ground are directly sharing in the experience of this analysis. With so much information in humanity's hands, our future selves may feel pressured to take on the responsibility of using this data for the better.  Do we have it in us to actively work on the pursuit of decisions, activities, and experiences that increase our lifespan— and by consequence, increase the probability of us evolving at a more accelerated rate? It's taken some by surprise to see the Government is not fronting up for that 1 pm press conference today.I'm sure plenty of people will accuse ministers and the PM of trying to hide away from a bad news week.But, on balance, I like this.We need to dial back on these 1 pm press conferences unless they're absolutely necessary.The new Premier of NSW Dominic Perrottet has done it. He scrapped them yesterday.His predecessor Gladys Berejiklian scaled them right back about a month ago. And even we have a bit: we haven't had them on Saturdays for a while now and the world hasn't ended.It's not like the government won't be held to account when necessary.To be fair – apart from Jacinda herself – every other Covid minister turns up for interviews on the regular.I think we need to move on from fixating on the Covid case numbers.Yes, of course, this outbreak is the biggest thing happening to the country right now.But we are so obsessed with Covid and where it's popping up that I think we are losing a sense of proportion.There are other really big things going on that are barely getting any airtime.For example, the Three Waters reform, which could turn into a Government asset grab that affects every single council in this country.We are so irrational about Covid right now that there are people in the South Island calling for the entire place to be locked off from the North Island and not even vaguely aware of nuts that is. They're prepared to starve their tourism and associated businesses of every single North Island traveller just because there are a smattering of cases outside of the Auckland border in Waikato.The more rational alternative would be to just go out and get the jab.Look at Waiheke: doing the same, banning mainland Aucklanders from going to the island but not banning islanders from travelling to and from Auckland.  It's irrational because it's a completely flawed plan. Waiheke residents are not immune to catching covid and taking it back to Waiheke. Again, they're starving the local businesses instead of just getting the jab.Honestly, the fewer 1 pm press conferences we have – the more we start to unlock ourselves from the Covid fear – the better.

How many times have you heard that as the good ole, “pat yourself on the back” excuse for everything???“Oh I’d love to come to the party but I’m just so busy with work…”“Oh, I wish I could make it… SO BUSY LATELY…”We all do it, and we’ve had it done to us. BUT LET’S STOP. NOW. Some questions for you to get us started…When did “BEING BUSY” replace “BEING PRODUCTIVE?”When did “BEING BUSY” start to make us feel all warm and cozy inside?And I’m about to get ALL up in your business here…Who of you, THIS WEEK, have neglected important moments with your loved ones and/or children, because you felt the need to be “BUSY”? Here’s the cold hard truth of the matter that is very hard for people to learn.Not all actions are created equal. In fact, most of our actions, no matter how hard we try…Whether it’s in business, in our personal lives, or in our relationships…ACTUALLY DON’T ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING. It’s only a small percentage (between 1% and 20%) of our actions that actually MOVE THE NEEDLE and ACCOMPLISH WHAT WE WANT TO ACCOMPLISH. I’ve talked about this concept extensively in other letters, but let’s focus on the topic of being BUSY. There is something deeply ingrained in most of us…Not sure where it came from..Maybe it’s just the culture…But we’ve twisted the definition of PRODUCTIVITY.We think, we honestly believe, that if we are not BUSY doing something, we are not being productive…Am I wrong?This leads to…Checking email 500 times a dayMaking up random tasks to do that seem super important (that day)Incessantly checking in on your subordinatesEven when you aren’t working, creating random projects for yourself around the house…and many moreIt really is a disease. It’s easy to “see” this, when you think about it.It’s HARDER to do something about it. Here’s how I try to deal with the disease of busyness.1) Stop and think before acting. It’s so easy to just rush off and “DO”.I become like a squirrel sometimes… “OH A NUT LET’S GO BURY IT!”Except that nut is…an email I just thought ofSomething I forgot to send to a clientA gig I need to hire someone forSo I just rush off and do it!The key is to NOT do that…The key is to STOP.Take 10 minutes. And actually write down PRIORITIES based on your big picture goals. I like to ask myself, if I could ONLY do 1-2 things today and then I had to stop. No choice in the matter. Which two would I do?Then I do those 2 things before doing ANYTHING else. 2) Eliminate most things. Seriously. Just stop doing it. I’ve been leaning on the quote “it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission…”Random stuff that I do that when I examine it, doesn’t actually move the needle?I’ll just literally stop doing it. And see if anyone notices or if it affects anything. If anyone gets mad, I just ask for forgiveness. Try it. It works. 3) Automate or delegate what you can’t eliminate. Stop doing monotonous things that someone in the Philippines can do for $3 an hour. (ZERO offense thrown there).Virtual assistants are a THING. They aren’t going anywhere. You can EMPLOY people who DESPERATELY NEED IT. Pay them a wage that is FAR BETTER than what your competitors do…And they will LOVE YOU FOR IT. They work hard, they are available basically 24/7, and they are KIND, loving people. Seriously, why in the World do you do some things that these VA’s can do?They will do it better than you, and you can focus on things that move the needle more. (if you don’t know how to hire a VA I have one word for you… UPWORK)4) Constantly ask yourself “IS THIS ESSENTIAL?”Seriously. 45 times a day. Minimum.Everything you do, simply ask yourself “Is this Essential?”Essential literally means…absolutely necessary; extremely important.Is what you are doing ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, or EXTREMELY IMPORTANT?If it isn’t, you need to AGGRESSIVELY eliminate, automate, or delegate it. Jonah and Mike have known each other for over 20 years. They are close friends and enjoy talking and laughing. This podcast is a prime example of their easy rapport. Every hospice discipline is required to document their care and interventions with patients and family. For some, this may be a sufficient major step -- maybe even a complete step -- towards deliverance from yoga. However, for others, this may be only the important FIRST step. THERE MAY BE, FOR OTHERS, MORE YET TO BE DONE. It cannot be emphasized enough that involvement in yoga is a very serious matter. Yoga is a powerfully affecting form of spiritual witchcraft and the consequences of yogic practice may range from seemingly trivial effects to major demonic strongholds and influence. The evil spirits which, through yoga, are invited into one's life may range from the comparatively small and weak, to viciously strong and difficult to confront and dislodge. Certain spirits connected to Eastern religious practices have a wide set of influential power, and they are notorious not only for being capable of hiding in areas of the human body, but also in masking themselves as spirits seemingly completely disconnected from yoga. These spirits are able, in many cases, to locate, latch onto, and amplify some of the worst weaknesses and tendencies in individual persons: pride; lust; addiction; laziness; obsession; and so forth. Confronting Eastern spirits may produce a pushback from spirits who still have a right to affect a person because of hidden and/or unconfessed sin.  Therefore, if you are going to pray this prayer, it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY that you set your heart to see the deliverance process through to its end -- AND THAT MAY TAKE TIME TO GET THROUGH. You will need to decide to TRUST in the authority and power of Jesus Christ, NO MATTER WHAT. The step of renouncing and repenting may cause some things to fall away but BRING HIDDEN THINGS TO LIGHT. Shaking up the Kundalini playground, and casting some of these spirits out, for instance, will produce a large power vacuum that must immediately be filled by the Word and Holy Spirit of God. Do not be surprised if you find yourself dealing with spiritual challenges you were never aware of prior to renouncing yoga. DON'T FEAR, but BE READY in Jesus Christ to deal with hidden sin, hidden weaknesses, and hidden demonic strongholds. We already have THE VICTORY in Jesus -- but it may take some real perseverance in striving to walk your deliverance all the way through.  It is not recommended to pray this prayer lightly, casually, or with the foolish presumption that once will be enough.
