Con influencias de The Undertones e The Boys, compartiron escenario con The Baboon Show, The Professionals e Pete and the Test Tube Babies.
On the latest episode of the Talkhouse Podcast's spin-off series, host Nick Dawson sits down with actor, writer-director, playwright and novelist Tim Blake Nelson, who can currently be seen in the boxing drama Bang Bang and whose new play And Then We Were No More is now at La MaMa in New York City. In a personal, profound and often surprising conversation, Nelson opens up about everything from his morning routine to his recurring dreams, from his earliest childhood memories – some of which are truly remarkable – to a pivot point in his life that was transformative. An interesting show this week on BEHIND THE LENS as we take a look at two very different films and filmmakers, thanks to producer/actor Johnny Danks talking about his new film, SHAKEY GROUNDS, the first one produced under the banner of his company Dank Productions, and director/editor VINCENT GRASHAW discussing the emotionally powerful character study BANG BANG. First up, Johnny Danks and SHAKEY GROUNDS. What began as a short film about coffee and a coffee shop, after 15 years, morphed into the feature film we have today, SHAKEY GROUNDS, which is not about coffee, but a film that features grunge music and captures Seattle's 1990s vibe. SHAKEY GROUNDS is the story of a troubled musician and his band as they navigate personal demons and a shot at redemption with a disgraced record executive. After multiple obstacles, they rise together, finding purpose in their music and each other. Switching gears, we move into the world of boxing with BANG BANG, an exquisite character study courtesy of director and editor VINCENT GRASHAW. I love this film and every element of the storytelling. In BANG BANG, retired boxer Bernard "Bang Bang" Rozyski finds a renewed sense of purpose when he reconnects with his estranged grandson and begins training him in the very sport that destroyed his life. As the bond between them grows, questions arise about Bang Bang's true motivations – including from an old flame who witnessed his explosive rise in the 1980s and his bitter rivalry with her cousin, now a formidable political figure and Detroit mayoral candidate, Darnell Washington. Is Bang Bang simply passing down his anger, or is there real redemption in his mentorship? http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Tim Blake Nelson is a celebrated actor, writer, and director. His nearly 100 screen credits include “The Thin Red Line,” “Lincoln,” “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” “Watchmen,” and “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” For his latest, the independent film “Bang Bang,” he plays an aging boxer whose glory days are long past. On this episode, he details how his process has changed by comparing the patience he has now to his approach for “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” where “fear inspired hubris” fueled him. He explains why it's the actor's job to retranslate poor direction, how his thirst for knowledge benefits his work, why he shows up on day one knowing the entire script inside and out. Plus he tells a few interesting stories about the Coen Brothers, hilarious ones about Terrence Malick, inspiring ones about directing Amanda Seyfried, and much much more. Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. Follow Back To One on Instagram

From MPR News, Art Hounds are members of the Minnesota arts community who look beyond their own work to highlight what's exciting in local art. Their recommendations are lightly edited from the audio heard in the player above. Want to be an Art Hound? Featured in August is prolific Ojibwe artist Sam Zimmerman of Duluth, whose work will be on view until September. His boldly colored work often features animal forms, and Klepinger says these works were inspired by animals he saw at Tettegouche. Zimmerman is also, separately, the Artist-in-Residence at Tettegouche. For this role, he created seven signs, printed on weather-proof aluminum, about the seven Grandfather Teachings of the Ojibwe, which will be installed next spring at the Nature Play Area. See all the artists at Artists-in-Residence programs at State Parks across the state here. Watercolor artist and naturalist Chris Dillon is the featured artist next month, and there will be an artist's reception for her Sept. 5. in the Tettegouche Visitor Center starting at 7 p.m.Arab American women's stories in silk and animationSandra Brick, a teaching artist at the Textile Center, appreciates Hend Al-Mansour's exhibition at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. “Mihrabs: Portraits of Arab American Women” is an immersive exhibit of four installations of brightly colored, silk-screened fabric, which are paired with a short animation. Brick appreciates that visitors enter each pillar to experience the objects, sights, and sounds of the lives of four Minnesota women whose heritages trace to Syria, Morocco, Palestine and Saudi Arabia. “You feel like you're visiting these women,” Brick says. There is an artist talk on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. The exhibit runs through Oct. 26. Punk rock meets Gorky in interdisciplinary theaterActor Kenzi Allen of St. Paul is looking forward to seeing “The Mother: A Punk Rock Musical” next weekend, Sept. 4-7, at Sokol Hall in St. Paul. Inspired by Maxim Gorky's novel, the show is a collaboration between Luverne Seifert and Darcey Engen of Sod House Theater and Carl Flink of Black Label Movement, featuring music by Annie Enneking of Annie and the Bang Bang. Allen, who was involved in an early workshop of the show last year, is excited by the way it brings acting, dance and music together.“I think I personally crave a whole lot more work that has this kind of overlap and interdisciplinary focus. So I hope this show kind of shows how much fun and how much vibrancy each of us artists have to give to each other's disciplines,” Allen says.“The show is about a mother and a son who are living in poverty in Russia, and the son gets involved in what becomes the Bolshevik Revolution. The story follows how the mother is also brought into that whole uprising. “I think now is a good time to be telling this story, because we're looking back at history in this time and seeing what has happened in the past and kind of reflecting on have we moved past this, or is it possible for things like this to happen again? The show is being performed in St. Paul, and St. Paul has such a rich, rich history of union workers coming together and fighting against oppression.”

Free episode cross-over with the Bang-Bang Podcast. The question of “Which side are you on?” haunted me (Van Jackson) intermittently throughout the long Global War on Terror. It was a beat that I would hear during occasional moments of consciousness, which I tried to suppress or rationalize away…until I no longer could. On my other show, The Bang-Bang Podcast, I ended up having a surprising conversation with our guest, George Dardess. Before we started the actual episode, we talked at length about memoirs and stories of conversion.George is an expert in the lost art of close reading, which we get into. And his favored genre—which also happens to be mine—is the memoir. My co-host Lyle Rubin wrote a memoir, and his wife, Colette Shade, just came out with a memoir too (both are excellent). In that context, George started asking about my story, and the beginnings of my own memoir inadvertently came pouring out.The conversation has stuck with me everyday since. Although I have no shortage of distractions, I've begun putting pen to paper, reckoning with the slow-burning crisis of conscience that took me from being an agent of the national security state to one of its fiercest critics. As we discuss in this short episode, there are a few factors that might account for my political consciousness.Hip-hop not only acquainted me with the Black Freedom Struggle from an early age; it provided a soundtrack, a musical coda, to my life. And I think that made a difference.Spending time in Monterey, California, at the Defense Language Institute, was a pivotal experience. In a twisted way, so was my immersion in “hustle culture,” which was so strong that I basically lost my 20s to obsessive self improvement. When my humanity finally thawed in the 2010s, the world had changed dramatically and I started questioning my place in it.Physically getting out of Washington—an idea whose appeal grew during my alienation in Obama's second term—was almost certainly crucial too. It feels like I've always been on some Robert Frost shit. Few roads are less traveled by than New Zealand, and it has made all the difference! But I also grew up precarious working class. The lives of the people surrounding me had no connection to the foreign policy world I strived so hard to enter. At first, I saw that as a problem of social mobility. Eventually, I would see it as a problem of class antagonism—national security takes its legitimacy from the people but forsakes them in its every decision. The most generous thing I could say about foreign policy is that people like me faced problems growing up that were never made better by anything happening in national security.Anyway, I have a lot to work through. But if you're interested in memoir as a form, close reading as a practice, or some of the details in my personal evolution, you'll find this impromptu conversation as stimulating as I did.Subscribe to the Bang-Bang Podcast: https://www.bangbangpod.comSubscribe to the Un-Diplomatic Newsletter: https://www.un-diplomatic.com/

Free cross-over episode with the Bang-Bang Podcast. In this finale to our Andor series, Van and Lyle are joined by returning guest Paul Adlerstein and—making his first appearance on the pod—Matt Duss, former foreign policy advisor to Senator Bernie Sanders and current executive vice president at the Center for International Policy. The conversation spans the closing arc of Andor Season 2 and Rogue One, treating them as one long meditation on revolutionary grief, sacrifice, and strategy. We reflect on Kleya Marki's backstory, Deedra Meero's karmic consignment to the labor camps, and the quiet closure of Bix Caleen's journey from warrior to survivor, cradling new life in a liberated field. We also discuss Cassian's confrontation with the rebel leadership and his scathing defense of Luthen Rael. Namely, his accusation that those who sit in safety have committed only a fraction of the sacrifice they demand of others. As well as Bail Organa's (wink wink, nod nod) “May the Force be with you, captain,” sealing the fate of Cassian's transition from hunted thief to selfless insurgent. In our Rogue One discussion, we note the apocalyptic awe of Krennic's “Oh, it's beautiful” as he watches Jedha obliterated, a moment that recalls the real-world language of U.S. reporters and officials after Hiroshima.Check out the Bang-Bang Podcast and subscribe: https://www.bangbangpod.com/

Free full-episode cross-over with the Bang-Bang Podcast. Van (minus Lyle) is joined by historian David Austin Walsh to explore episodes 10-12 of Andor's first-season finale. Their conversation focuses on Andor's embrace of revolution and the surprising political realism of the show's portrayal of labor exploitation and social uprisings. Van and David also discuss liberalism's failure to inspire meaningful change in the real world—why has no electoral politician in our lifetime ever roused our souls like Marva did in episode's 12's revolt on the planet Ferrix? What might that say about the rise of fascism in the 2020s?Check out the Bang-Bang Podcast: https://www.bangbangpod.comSubscribe to the Un-Diplomatic Newsletter: https://www.un-diplomatic.com

Grandpa Bill says-let's craft a memory palace mnemonic using an index card system to distinguish between perfection and imperfection, numbered 00-99. We'll visualize placing these concepts within a familiar "palace" – your home, perhaps? The Core Idea: Each "room" or distinct location within your memory palace will represent a set of ten numbers (00-09, 10-19, etc.). Within each location, we'll place two index cards: one embodying "perfection" and the other "imperfection," linked to a specific number within that decade.Your Memory Palace (Example - Feel free to use your own home): 00-09: Front Door/Entryway 10-19: Living Room 20-29: Kitchen 30-39: Dining Room 40-49: Bathroom 50-59: Bedroom 60-69: Closet 70-79: Office/Study 80-89: Garage/Basement 90-99: Backyard/GardenIndex Card Visualizations (Examples - Customize these!):For each number, imagine two index cards vividly interacting within the chosen location.00 (Front Door Entrance Way): Perfection: A flawlessly polished mirror reflecting a radiant light (zero flaws). Imperfection: A slightly cracked doorknob that jiggles when touched (a noticeable flaw).01 (Front Door): Perfection: A single, perfectly bloomed red rose in a crystal vase (one ideal). Imperfection: A single mismatched sock lying on the welcome mat (one oddity).12 (Living Room): Perfection: Twelve perfectly aligned books on a shelf, spines straight. Imperfection: A clock on the wall that's twelve minutes slow.25 (Kitchen): Perfection: Five gleaming silver spoons laid out in perfect symmetry. Imperfection: A half-eaten sandwich with five crumbs scattered around it.38 (Dining Room): Perfection: Eight crystal glasses filled to the exact same level. Imperfection: A table with one leg that's slightly shorter, causing a wobble (looks like an '8' leaning).47 (Bathroom): Perfection: Seven pristine white towels folded identically. Imperfection: A leaky faucet dripping seven times a minute.53 (Bedroom): Perfection: Three perfectly ironed shirts hanging neatly in the closet. Imperfection: A pile of three unfolded laundry items on the chair.69 (Closet): Perfection: Nine pairs of shoes arranged by color and style in perfect order. Imperfection: A tangled necklace with nine knots.71 (Office/Study): Perfection: One perfectly written sentence on a clean sheet of paper. Imperfection: A coffee stain marring one corner of an important document.84 (Garage/Basement): Perfection: Four perfectly stacked tires. Imperfection: A toolbox with four missing tools.99 (Backyard/Garden): Perfection: Ninety-nine identical daisies blooming in a row. Imperfection: Ninety-nine pebbles scattered unevenly on the path.#MemoryPalace,#MnemonicTechniques,#MemoryImprovement,#PerfectionVsImperfection,#IndexCardSystem,#LearningStrategies,#MemorizationTips,#VisualMnemonics,#NumberAssociation,#MindPalace,Creative Solutions for Holistic Healthcare

Free preview cross-over with the Bang-Bang Podcast. Van and Lyle kick off their Andor series with Slate culture editor Jenny G. Zhang, diving into the show's slow-burn opening arc where imperial bootlickers, jealous love interests, and rebels in the making collide on the Outer Rim. They discuss what makes Andor—a property of the Star Wars universe—feel different than its franchise kin, from its social realism to its psychological bite. If The Battle of Algiers looms large, so does Parable of the Sower, especially the show's landscape of authoritarian company towns and the simmering hints of a revolutionary break. They talk about the Preox-Morlana security force as East India Company meets Blackwater, and Deputy Inspector Syril Karn as the story's omnipresent archetype—the insecure man desperate to matter. Just like the pathetic rent-a-cops Andor is forced to kill, and the equally envious Timm Karlo, another tragic loser who dies trying to make up for his fateful angst.History appears to turn not so much on generals and emperors, but on the choices and contradictions of broken men. Men stuck in systems they didn't build, and whose real breaking is yet to come.Check out the Bang-Bang Podcast and subscribe: https://www.bangbangpod.com/Further ReadingJenny's websiteJenny on BlueskyJenny on Twitter“The Andor Dilemma: Pop Culture's Place in Leftist Strategy,” by Van Jackson“Introducing Andor Analysed, Part 1,” by Jamie WoodcockThe Battle of Algiers EpisodeParable of the Sower, by Octavia ButlerThe Hundred Years' War on Palestine, by Rashid Khalidi
