Grammy-winning Southern roots rock duo Larkin Poe (sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell) join us to chat about their creative process and their exciting forthcoming album, Bloom. PART ONE:'Tis the season! Scott and Paul chat about the classic Halloween songs. Is it time for a modern day resurgence of spooky music?PART TWO:Our in-depth conversation with sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell, known to the world as duo Larkin PoeABOUT LARKIN POE:Blues-based rock duo Larkin Poe is comprised of multi-instrumentalist sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell. The Georgia natives began their career as an acoustic trio with their sister Jessica in 2004. That year they appeared on A Prairie Home Companion and won the Prairie Home National Teen Talent Competition. In 2008, the Lovell Sisters' song “Distance” won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest grand prize in the country genre. That same year, their song “Time to Grow” received honorable mention in the International Songwriting Competition. After an impressive indie career that included two albums, as well as appearances at Bonaroo and the Grand Ole Opry, the Lovell Sisters disbanded. Rebecca and Megan reemerged as a duo pursuing a new sound that was steeped in the electric blues rather than acoustic and bluegrass music. Between 2010 and 2013 they released five indie EPs, two collaborative albums, and a live DVD. They released their debut album as a duo in 2014 and gained attention with the standout track “Don't.” In 2016 they reissued their debut studio album under the title Reskinned, which included new tracks such as “Trouble in Mind.” With the 2017 album Peach, Megan and Rebecca took the production reigns and continued to build a following. The next year's Venom & Faith reached #1 on Billboard's Blues Album chart and earned the sisters their first Grammy nomination. Their sixth studio album, Blood Harmony, garnered another Grammy nomination, which resulted in their first Grammy win in 2024. Larkin Poe's latest album is called Bloom and is set for release in January of 2025.

Submission: "On Friday, June 2012, I was airlifted out of Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. During this near-death experience, I left my physical body and was able to watch almost as a third party as I was airlifted to the cardiac care unit in Chattanooga, Tennessee on life support. The next day I awoke, and by Sunday, June 10th, I miraculously returned to the festival after refusing to be released to a women's shelter. Nine months after the festival, I ended up having a complete mental breakdown, an existential crisis triggered by that experience that led me to do a series of wild and crazy things, landing me in a mental hospital for a week where I forgot my own name for two days. Believing I actually died June 8th,may sound out there. But it all happened and the event became a launching pad for my now 10 years of sobriety after a three year addiction to heroin and opiates. This is a story about mental health and stigmas around drug addictions and addicts. It's been a long journey and I'm very grateful to still be on this earth." --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pleasedonttellanyone/support
Vinnie is a good storyteller, Apple's crash detection mode caused problems in the mosh pit at Bonaroo, The Grammys say A.I. can't win a Grammy, Dua Lipa made Trent Reznor cry, don't be upset with Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift's tour is making a ton of money, a guy walked up on reporters at his own funeral, the most satisfying food sound, things people judge you for, and Vinnie reads your texts!
When Izzy Heltai's Mom took him to Newport Folk Festival as a kid, Izzy would never have believed he'd be playing that very stage roughly a decade or so later, but lo and behold, dreams do sometimes become reality. But that road has not been an easy one for Izzy. As a trans person, self-realization had been forced upon him in a very real and striking way. And as a young trans youth, Izzy was forced to know himself far more than some people ever will; yet his struggle with identity has made him the person he is today. As a result, the authenticity and barebones realism in his artistic output is even more striking. Not only has Izzy been writing songs since he was 16 years old, but he's a true Road Dog -- slogging out time in his van driving across the country, touring in true DIY style. Now having performed at Newport Folk, as well as Bonaroo, SXSW and ACL, Izzy has truly hit his stride. His lovely debut EP, Day Plan (5 songs Written 4 the End of the World), showcases his neo-folk vibe and authentic self in a compelling and down-to-earth fashion. His recent performance at the Love Rising Benefit at Bridgestone Arena in Newport to support the movement against anti-trans legislation has been a highlight of his year thus far and he will be playing Outside Lands Festival in August. 32.1 million American women and 37.4 million American men have a mental health disorder and/or a substance abuse issue. With this crazy statistic, almost every single person in the US has either dealt with Mental Health and Substance Abuse themselves or at least knows someone who has struggled with it. Now, whether it be hereditary, bi-polar disorder, or someone just struggles with self worth and has low confidence, there are a number of things that can cause someone to get addicted to drugs and alcohol. But today our guest Ravenscoon who is apart of the Wakaan team, has played massive festivals like Bonaroo and who has even been on tour with Father Strange himself (Liquid Stranger)is here to talk about how overcame his addiction to drugs and alcohol and how he was able to build up the confidence within himself to get past his self doubt in order to build a successful and long lasting career.Pre-save Ravenscoon's EP:https://sym.ffm.to/oznvokpSociety Selects:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/28aag7ZckmpuFJEllz16Um?si=e9dfec2759a0442cFollow RavenscoonInstagramTwitterSoundCloudSpotifyShow Sponsorhttp://magazine.eraofedm.com/Underground SocietyInstagramTikTokTwitterSpotifyYouTubeSoundCloudWebsite: www.undergroundsocietypodcast.comSupport the show

Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, the brainchild of Knoxville native Ashley Capps, helped pave the way for largescale music events in the United States since its first iteration in 2002. After last year's event was canceled – not because of COVID-19, but because of weather – roads on the Bonnaroo Farm in Manchester, Tennessee, have been paved, which could help prevent a muddy mess. And that's just the beginning. This episode is dedicated to some of those big changes. Whether you are a seasoned Bonnaroovian looking forward to what's new or a Bonna-rookie with no clue what to expect, we have you covered. "The Scruffy Stuff" is presented by knoxnews.com.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Dopapod over Zoom video! Dopapod access a heightened level of cosmic harmony in their music. The quartet—EliWinderman [keys, vocals], Rob Compa [guitar, vocals], Chuck Jones [bass], and Neal “Fro”Evans [drums]—present albums as experiences meant to be shared out of your speakers andon stage. After generating millions of streams, packing shows coast-to-coast, and earningacclaim from Rolling Stone, Guitar World, Glide Magazine, and more, the group architect animmersive and expansive vision on their self-titled seventh full-length offering, Dopapod. The group's hypnotic hybrid of funk, rock, jazz, bluegrass, and electronica bloomed brilliantly on2009's Radar, and it continued to blossom on the likes of Never Odd Or Even [2014] andMegagem [2017]. Along the way, fan favorites such as “Present Ghosts” reeled in 2.4 millionSpotify streams and counting. 2019's Emit Time arrived to acclaim from Guitar World, Relix,Glide, Jambase, and more. Simultaneously, they sold out headline gigs and graced the bills ofElectric Forest, Summer Camp, High Sierra, and Bonaroo where Rolling Stone named themamong the festival's “best kept secrets.” After a marathon near-decade run, they enjoyed analmost year-long hiatus to realign and reenergize before reuniting with a new fire during 2019and partaking in something of a “soft return.” After a brief hiatus to regroup and recharge their creative efforts, Dopapod assembled whatwould become their next album, the self-titled Dopapod, and looked at the loose threads of theircatalog to conceptually tie their journey together. They chose to self-title their seventh offeringas a totem to the fact they've realized their full potential in terms of music and vision. Tacklingtime travel, balance and symmetry, binary pairs and more, Dopapod's palindromic existencecontinues to conjure alchemy nearly fifteen years into their journey. We want to hear from you! Josh Peyton was a high school homecoming king, wears only sleeveless shirts, is a Kentucky Colonel, an ordained minister, once worked as a hotel desk-clerk, has arms like tree trunks, and leads a band that plays 250 dates-a-year when not locked down during pandemics. A man with all of this girth needs something, well, girthy. He needs something big. So that's what Peyton did in forming and driving The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. Veteran road warriors, the Indiana-based Big Damn Band is a rather accomplished country-blues act with 10 albums and one EP to their credit. They've also toured worldwide and played notable stages such as Bonaroo and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, among many others. In this episode of The Load Out, we speak with Rev. Peyton (his mom calls him "Rev") and discuss the his upbringing and passion for music, talk about his longtime partnership with bandmate and wife "Washboard" Breezy Peyton – "The Miss Elizabeth of Country Blues” – and examine how he overcame the adversity of being told he'd never fret a guitar again with his hand into becoming a lifelong musician and more. So sit back and enjoy this exciting episode of The Load Out Music Podcast.
Ben Wyeth is an emotional wellness and spiritual life coach from New York City. He’s also an extraordinary songwriter and musician who has scaled the heights of the music industry, having played sold out shows from Tokyo to New York, From Sydney to Paris, and hundreds of cities In between while on tour with the band Hockey, which he founded and fronted for around a decade.( Ben sound bite)I personally saw Hockey at Coachella in 2010, and I still consider Ben’s performance to be one of the most impressive live vocal performances I’ve ever seen — Between 2009 and 2010, Ben became a fixture on the worlds worlds biggest stages, from major festivals like Glastonbury , Bonaroo, and Lolapalooza to sold out stadium concerts across Europe and the United States with major pop acts like Pink and Portugal the Man, to late night television performances on the Jools Holland show and Spin Magazine. As the relentless international touring, high stakes pressures of life in the spotlight, and the bands meteoric musical successes gradually gave way to Ben’s plummeting sense of confidence and self-worth, he unintentionally threw it all away. In the years since, he spent the better part of the last decade lost and searching for himself, and in doing so has undergone a profound personal and spiritual transformation.Today Ben is going to walk us through some of the insights he has gleaned from it all, with a special focus on strategies for living in the here and now, tapping into the flow state, and nourishing our innate creativity and emotional wellness. Blake Mills has the kind of resume that might make the average person feel really lazy. Not only is he an active musician, but also a Grammy-winning producer (for Alabama Shakes’ 2015 album Sound and Color), a collaborator to the stars—including the likes of Fiona Apple and Bob Dylan—and most recently, one of the guys in charge of the legendary Sound City studio in L.A. Mills’ newest musical project is a collaboration with legendary bassist Pino Palladino called Notes With Attachments. Just prior to that, it was the Pitchfork Best New Music designee Mutable Set, from 2020. Nick Sanborn is half of Sylvan Esso, along with Amelia Meath. The duo recorded their third and latest album, the excellent Free Love, while they were constructing a brand new studio, called Betty’s, on their farm in North Carolina. The album came out in September of last year, which obviously meant touring was off the table, but Sanborn got plenty busy with production work, including helping to create the most recent Flock of Dimes record with recent Talkhouse guest Jenn Wasner. Since the album’s release, Nick and Amelia have kept busy, releasing videos, a killer remix of their song “Numb,” and a live album called WITH. And now they’ve rescheduled a big tour for this fall, kicking off at Bonaroo, where they’ll host the Super Jam. Check out sylvanesso.com for tour dates. Sanborn and Blake get right into it in this conversation, covering the intimate relationships that make for good records, the joy and trepidation about returning to public stages, and even how weird it is to do the Talkhouse Podcast. Enjoy. This episode was produced by Melissa Kaplan. The Talkhouse Podcast theme is composed and performed by the Range.
Welcome to Roadcase, a podcast exploring the live music experience!! Hop aboard the Roadcase bus and join us for this great episode with the thoughtful and introspective Ron Gallo. Ron's new album, PEACEMEAL, is an eclectic mix of soul, R and B, synth pop, and rock presented in a creative burst of imagination and energy. Coming on the heels of his previous, garage-band influenced and heavy sounding, Heavy Meta in 2017, the juxtaposition can only be called striking and stark. But Ron is most comfortable touring and has done so extensively both in the US and in Europe; he's just as at ease in the basement DIY scene as he is on the Bonaroo stage. He has also taken to advocating for fair treatment of artists -- and during the Covid period, has relished the opportunity to gain traction in the direct fan-to-artist relationships that have developed over the past year. Ron is a breath of fresh air: authentic with a great sense of humor. So jump aboard and check out this awesome interview with Ron Gallo!!For more information: http://www.roadcasepod.comTo support Roadcase on Patreon, please visit: http://www.patreon.com/roadcasepodContact: info@roadcasepod.com

First off RIP DMX, one of the greatest to ever do it. This episode we dive into the creepy yet cool new trick A.I has learned which is to write songs that sound eerily similar to Hendrix, Nirvana and a few more. Welcome to Roadcase, a podcast exploring the live music experience!! Hop on aboard and learn about the lovely and amazingly talented Lydia Luce. Her new album, Dark River, is quite the personal journey and Lydia talks us through some of the songs from this newly released work. Lydia is classically trained in viola, her voice and guitar accompaniment are exquisite, and her songs are layered in lush and gorgeous tones with stunning arrangements. Lydia is an in-demand session musician and also works tirelessly with Lockeland Strings, a Nashville-based artist collaborative which originated as a collection of house shows but now operates at larger venues in Nashville to showcase artists who come together to support a variety of non-profit causes. Lydia has been instrumental in bringing artists together and she is comfortable in a variety of live settings, having toured as a string player with some massive acts as well. On today's episode, I'm joined by Texas singer, songwriter and producer, Jonathan Tyler. Jonathan aka “JT”, kicked off his music career in Dallas with his band “The Northern Lights” and toured all over the world with AC/DC, ZZ Top, Kid Rock and Ray Wylie Hubbard to name a few, and also played some of the most popular music festivals like Austin City Limits, Bonaroo, Hangout and Voodoo Fest. However, things changed when a patent lawyer came after JT for his “Northern Lights” name, and he parted ways with his label at the time, Atlantic records. With all of these changes, JT took a step back, and he talks with me about how he stayed connected to his love of the music during those times, his re-discovery of what really was important to him, and what surprised him the most about experimenting with how he released new music this past year. Most people don't create their own career, Jeff & Eric Rosenthal did. They are not what you would expect when you say they have a close relationship with pretty much anyone who is a titan in the Hip Hop Industry. Instead of being artists themselves, they played to their strengths and in the early days of Youtube made Hip Hop Sketch Comedy that went viral and gave them a name in Hip Hop. After several years of consistently making videos, they launched a career where they've done everything you can imagine. Interviewing 300 people in the Hip Hop industry including Rick Ross, Cardi B, Mac Miller and everyone in between, performing at Bonaroo, making mixtapes with the like of DJ Drama and 100 other feats in the space. Most importantly, they were able to build a career where not only do they built what they wanted to while chasing not money... not power.... but respect. "It's kinda of a cliche thing to be like, 'oh I started goin' and it wasn't as good'-but ever since then, I feel it's gotten more and more to like the general pop, EDM, hip-hop genre." says General Manager of Radio DePaul, Marty O'Connell. Lollapalooza has a history of selling out passes in under 10 minutes. However, the past two years have sturggled with ticket sales. Last years fest had tickets avaliable day of. This year they haven't even sold out-nearly two months after the line-up announcement. So what's Lolla doing wrong? Or it could be we as music fiends are too overwhelmed by the plethora of music festivals to choose from. Beyond the Music founder Connor Skelly says, "This is both a good and bad thing about Lollapalooza, and Bonaroo and Coachella. All these large festivals that appeal to a wide range of audiences," he begins, "It's great that they do that, it gets a lot of people together to appreciate music, but I think it also works to their detriment." So, what's the future for music festivals like Lolla? Tune-in to find out! We also are doing our VERY FIRST TICKET GIVEAWAY! Thanks to our friends at Out of Context/Get2TheGig! Prepare to poop glitter after attending a music festival for three days. Music festivals are over the top, so who better to talk about music festivals is with Ric Klinger and model, actress and social influencer Haley Gauthier. Queen ShanShan snaps with Haley about being a social influencer and what it takes to become a social influencer. They spill the “Social Tea” on all things social media and the expectations of being a model, actress and noted social brander. Ric slides into the conversation and excitingly so as he talks about the upcoming music festivals such as Coachella, Kaboo, Bonaroo and Lollapalooza and the highly anticipated Woodstock 50. What artists are you looking forward to see this summer? Queen ShanShan gets real deep about the tragic death of Rap Artist, entrepreneur and community leader Nispey Hussle. He was a true pioneer in music and entrepreneurship. Rest in Power, Nip. WILLIE NELSON GOES REGGAE! Why would Willie do such a thing… I mean, besides the obvious botanical reason? Does Willie know the differences between reggae, ska, and dancehall? Does Willie even care? Could Willie even be bothered to write some new material for this album? When the record company that first suggested this idea went bankrupt, why did Willie's next label resurrect the idea ten years later? Who did play Bonaroo in 2005? Is Jimmy Buffet cultural appropriation? Did even the record producer realize that no one was going to make it to the end of this album? All of this and more will be pondered on Detours & Outliers?

4 friends dreamed of attracting 30,000 attendees to their new music festival (which would have been an incredible success for them.) When they put tickets on sale for the first “Bonnarroo” festival they CRUSHED their own lofty expectations and sold 70,000 tickets in a few short weeks...with no advertising! Today, Bonnaroo is annual festival experience unlike any other, uniting 100,000 people in a community defined by immersive participation, boundless positivity, and pure self-expression. In this episode of Deconstructing Success, you'll discover the “special sauce” behind the success of Bonaroo and my guest Rich Goodstone (hint: it’s all about your "frame of mind.”) Dreaming big, working hard and believing that he will succeed is the framework behind everything that today’s guest has built. I was first introduced to Rich Goodstone by one of my best friends and I was instantly drawn into his obvious hunger for learning and becoming a better person. I liked him right away. And since that time, he has been someone that I’ve constantly turned to when I needed a reminder about the importance of doing the “next right thing”. Or a reminder about the importance of staying humble...staying true to yourself, to your ideals...and always improving. We’ll cover all of that (and so much more) in this exclusive interview with Rich Goodstone in Episode #3! 5 Things You'll Learn in This Episode: How Rich reacted when 70,000 tickets for Bonnaroo’s first festival sold out in a few weeks. Why he believes that the more digital the world gets, the more people crave physical interaction...and what that means for businesses. The habits and mindsets that keep Rich balanced each day...through the good stuff (like when a multi-billion dollar company buys a majority stake in one of your festivals)...and also the challenging times (when a new launch doesn’t meet your expectations). The traits that the most successful people he’s ever met (celebrities, world leaders and entrepreneurs) all have in common. His recipe for success is simple--but not necessarily easy. And a great piece of wisdom from Henry Ford gets revisited. 5 Questions I Ask Rich: How do you define success? And has your definition evolved over the years? How does your life change when you achieve your "stretch" goals? What are the questions you need to be asking yourself in the first place to get to where you want to go to? How do you "get through" the down times in life and still stick to what you believe...and what you want? What was the last major disappointment you experienced? What did you learn from it? 5 Fast Facts About Rich Goodstone: Rich oversees Superfly’s award-winning agency services and he’s responsible for developing and overseeing revenue sources for Superfly’s landmark festivals. He’s a frequent speaker at some of the most prestigious conferences in the world including the “invite only” PTTOW summit alongside people like Quincy Jones, Shaun White, David Blaine, and even the Dalai Lama. In 2004, Rolling Stone named Bonarroo as "One of the Fifty Moments to Change the History of Rock n Roll". Among the wide range of artists who have graced the Bonnaroo stages are Radiohead, Kanye West, Elton John, the Beastie Boys, Paul McCartney, Kendrick Lamar, Bruce Springsteen, and countless other legends. In 2015, Live Nation announced it had acquired a controlling interest in Bonnaroo and "The Farm," its 750-acre site, for an undisclosed figure.
