It's good advice for any pediatric provider to never assume anything. In the sixth episode of the series on Health Equity in Children, we understand how not making assumptions is a best practice for pediatric providers from the evaluation and management of LGBTQ patients, to communicating with diverse families, and serving as an ally in health promotion. If you're longing to discover a beautifully curated selection of fashion by designers and artisans who are located in out-of-reach places, then Cult Mia is your destination. How we feel and react when we discover something new to us can be extremely powerful. The feeling of surprise, anticipation, novelty and newness trigger the release of dopamine. Which intern makes us want to go exploring in search of a reward. So, it's no wonder that discovery is a big topic for the fashion industry. It's what keeps us coming back to search for new editorial content, or the latest drops from our favourite brands. And it means big business for online retail. But, what if discovery wasn't just about capitalising on that dopamine rush, and discovery actually became the key to unlocking a decent living as a creative for a female entrepreneur or unknown designer in a far-to-reach location? It puts a different perspective on why discovery is such a big part of Cult Mia. Nina came up with the idea for Cult Mia during her time at luxury trunkshow and designer pre-order business Moda Operandi. Competing against more than 100 businesses, Nina later applied to London Business School's accelerator programme, Launchpad, and won with her idea for Cult Mia. In 2019, Cult Mia's first year, they onboarded over 70 designers from 25 different countries, including Georgia, Nigeria and Ukraine.Following on from the launchpad programme, Cult Mia joined London Business School's Incubator programme and received more than £200,000 of resources and office space for the first year of business. Cult Mia has recently raised its pre-seed investment, backed by strategic investors and family offices. What intrigues us about Cult Mia, is how the brand's core values; sustainability, empowerment of women, inclusivity, and lifting local communities, drive Cult Mia and their partner businesses forward. All too often we see brands being ‘inspired by' other cultures, platforms selling ‘authentic' clothing without acknowledging they are ‘taking' rather than celebrating, honouring and creating rightful remuneration for the clothing. Cult Mia is here to make that a thing of the past. When we consider Nina's family background - her grandparents moved from Spain, Poland and the Netherlands to Mexico, where her parents were born and raised - and her international education, across Switzerland, USA, and the UK, it's not difficult to understand why she has such an international viewpoint on life. Nina is the daughter of parents who both achieved great things. Her is father a successful businessman and her mother was one of the first women in Mexico to complete a computer science degree before moving on to set up the computer systems for some of the biggest banks in Latin America. Though her early career Nina spent time as part of The United Nations Women and Trade team supporting female entrepreneurs in underdeveloped countries by growing their micro-enterprises and connecting them to an international market. She also worked at Goldman Sachs in Geneva, covering Latin America. In this podcast, Jodi Muter-Hamilton finds out all about Nina, her vision for Cult Mia, and the biggest challenges and opportunities ahead for her business, female entrepreneurs and designers operating in a global economy. https://cultmia.comwww.otherday.co.uk

A self-described "cloud guy", Daniel Brener has been fascinated by weather forecasting for years. But he is also an all-around physics nerd (a compliment we do not bestow lightly). As part of Prof. Arjun Berera's group at the University of Edinburgh, Daniel has been working out whether panspermia — the idea that particles from Earth could be knocked out of the upper atmosphere and seed life on other planets — is theoretically possible. We delve into these two topics, stopping to examine the difficulties of bridging the gap between theory and observation, the competitive nature of physics research, and how to communicate ambiguity. Kendyl and Dorin discuss how weird it is to have vague magic based on binary gender, women performing sexual aggression at bachelorette parties, and the perils of working in male-dominated fields in this episode on What Men Want (2019), the gender-swapped remake of What Women Want (2000). Question of the Week: Since neither film accounted for non-binary genders, what’s your headcanon to revise it? How would this magic thought-hearing work with gender nonconforming folks? In this episode, I sat down with Rabbi Anne Brener to discuss the new updated and expanded version of her book, "Mourning and Mitzvah," now celebrating its 25th year in publication. Anne became a Rabbi who deals with mourning after her mother and sister both died within a few months of each other. She continues to be a source of hope, enriched by her own experiences with loss and personal growth and her belief in the healing power of ritual, communication, and community organization. We discuss the importance of having a community to grieve with, as well as how we interpret the many signs that our lost loved ones send us. Follow her on Facebook for more info on what she does. It is not often that I have a conversation with someone who has suffered multiple losses and has found the courage and the means to use it a way to help others who are going trough their own struggles. Anne Brener is the author of “Mourning and Mitzvah: A Guided Journal for Walking the Mourner’s Path Through Grief to Healing” first published in 1993 and now revised and expanded and published as a 25th Anniversary Edition from Turner Publishing. An ordained rabbi, psychotherapist and spiritual guide who serves on the board of the Aleph (AH-lef) Alliance for Jewish Renewal, Rabbi Brener takes the hand of modern mourners to gently guide them through the mourning process. With MOURNING & MITZVAH, she offers real solutions for healing. While still in her early twenties, losses included the suicide of her mother, followed three months later, by the death of her 19-year-old sister in a car accident, her only sibling. What began with the personal journal of her own struggle for healing, became a bestselling book, which weaves her own journey and those of many whom she has nurtured into the template provided by ancient Jewish wisdom. She is a speaker and writer, whose book has helped thousands heal. “MOURNING & MITZVAH” is available here: https://amzn.to/2tC7zlQ For more grief related resources, please visit: http://www.dealingwithmygrief.com/grief-resources/ Subscribe to this podcast by using one of the following: Click here to subscribe via Apple Podcasts Click here to subscribe on Android Click here to subscribe via RSS Click here to subscribe on Spotify Contact me using any of following: email - darwyn@dealingwithmygrief.com twitter - http://www.twitter.com/dealwithgrief web - http://www.dealingwithmygrief.com voice message - http://www.dealingwithmygrief.com/voicemail Facebook - https://facebook.com/groups/dealingwithmygrief Instagram - https://instagram.com/dealingwithmygrief Music provided by Oren Levine (oren@ohljazz.com)
Rabbi Anne Brener stumbled across traditional Jewish mourning rituals as she was preparing for her wedding. Her fascination with these ancient prayers and rituals plus knowledge of psychology and a collection of her own personal griefs called her to deeply explore the world of Jewish mourning and write the book Mourning & Mitzvah: A Guided Journal for Walking the Mourner’s Path Through Grief to Healing . Today we're talking about how God can be described as "a place" for mourners, the unfortunate reality that everybody dies in the middle of a conversation, and how death requires our hearts and minds to jump from a physical relationship to a spiritual relationship. Also this week, I'm talking about the language of grief... and the subtle significance of switching from "is" to "was." Unconfirmed: Insights and Analysis From the Top Minds in Crypto
Demian Brener, the cofounder and CEO of Zeppelin discusses a dilemma he's seeing investors be concerned about: whether blockchains should be immutable forever or whether it should be possible to upgrade smart contracts over time. He explains why he doesn't see it as a dilemma, how it could be possible to have an upgradeable, immutable blockchain. We also cover another trend he's seeing: would-be ICO issuers instead turning to airdrops as a way to avoid some regulatory issues. Now that Tezos Betanet has launched (plus EOS and Dfinity are in the race), we talk about what factors will determine which smart contract platforms come out on top, plus Brener describes how the libraries he's building at Zeppelin OS could factor in.
