What happens when chronic illness meets wellness culture, diet culture, and the desperate search for answers in a system that continues to fail so many people? In this episode, I talk with Abbie Attwood, MS, @abbieattwoodwellness, an anti diet, weight inclusive nutrition therapist and host of the Full Plate Podcast. Abbie and I explore how chronic illness, medical gaslighting, and the pressure to find a cure can intersect with disordered eating. We talk about the ways wellness messaging pushes restrictive food rules, how OCD and anxiety deepen vulnerability to this messaging, and how food fear can feel like control when life feels unpredictable. We also discuss athlete identity, compulsive exercise, thin privilege, masking, neurodivergence, and the grief that comes when illness or injury forces people to rethink who they are. This conversation opens space for nuance, compassion, and the reality that healing happens inside context, not perfection. Content Caution We talk about chronic illness, disordered eating, exercise compulsion, and food restriction. Please take care of yourself as you listen. Key Topics We Cover 1. How wellness culture preys on vulnerability Abbie discusses how chronic illness created a perfect storm for disordered eating, especially when wellness messaging promised control, cures, and answers that science did not support. 2. Chronic illness and the search for control We talk about how desperation, medical dismissal, and misinformation make people more likely to turn to restrictive food rules and elimination diets. 3. OCD, anxiety, and increased vulnerability to wellness culture Abbie shares how her undiagnosed OCD and lifelong anxiety made the rigid, all or nothing tone of wellness culture feel reassuring, while actually deepening harm. 4. Athlete identity, loss, and compulsive movement We explore how losing movement due to chronic illness or injury can destabilize identity, trigger grief, and reignite disordered behaviors around exercise. 5. Masking, neurodivergence, and the pressure to perform wellness We discuss how neurodivergent masking can hide exhaustion and overwhelm, and how the pressure to perform health or discipline can push people deeper into food and exercise rigidity. 6. Chronic illness culture, shame, and blame We look at how chronic illness culture and wellness culture both place responsibility on the individual, leading to shame and self blame when bodies do not behave as expected. 7. What real nourishment looks like when illness limits capacity Abbie talks about the need for compassion, ease, adding rather than restricting, and honoring energy limitations instead of forcing strict food rules. Who This Episode Is For People navigating chronic illness and food anxiety Listeners recovering from eating disorders Neurodivergent folks who feel pressured to mask or follow rigid health rules Athletes or former athletes grieving changes in movement Anyone tangled in wellness culture messaging Clinicians who want a deeper understanding of how chronic illness intersects with disordered eating People who struggle with shame when illness reduces their capacity About Today's Guest Abbie Attwood, MS, is an anti diet, weight inclusive nutrition therapist, writer, and host of the Full Plate Podcast. Join Pastor Lucas Miles as he delivers a timely message addressing the growing cultural shift toward pagan and post-Christian worldviews. In this sermon, Pastor Lucas emphasizes that the challenge facing the church is not individual people, but the larger attempt to replace the Christian worldview with spiritual substitutes that promise meaning yet lead people away from the truth of the Gospel. He explains why the church must understand both the moment we're living in and the direction society is moving—preparing to become the “Church of Tomorrow” by standing firm with clarity, conviction, and grace.Throughout the message, Pastor Lucas highlights the importance of open dialogue within the church, pointing to our upcoming “Ask Me Anything” Sunday as an opportunity for honest questions and deeper discipleship. He also unpacks the significance of communion as a reminder of Christ's victory and the transformation available to every believer. Drawing from early church history, he shows how Christians in ancient Rome defended their faith against false accusations and makes clear the parallels to modern criticisms of Christianity today—accusations of bigotry, judgmentalism, and irrelevance.Pastor Lucas then explores humanity's built-in awareness of God and explains how suppressing that truth leads to spiritual confusion and the rise of alternative belief systems. He addresses the increasing popularity of modern spiritual trends—earth worship, reincarnation, astrology, manifestation, chakras, and globalism—revealing how the desires behind these beliefs ultimately point back to what only Christ can fulfill. The message concludes with a call to reestablish the goodness of God in people's hearts, demolish arguments that set themselves against the knowledge of God, and invite those seeking spiritual truth to find their answers in Jesus.Key Themes: • The rise of pagan and post-Christian worldviews • Preparing to be the “Church of Tomorrow” • The importance of open dialogue (“Ask Me Anything” Sunday) • Communion and the victory of Christ • Early Christian apologetics and modern accusations • Humanity's innate awareness of God • The pursuit of spirituality in all the wrong places • Reestablishing God's goodness in a confused culture • Calling seekers to truth found only in JesusTimestamps:3:21 — The Church of Tomorrow & Facing Cultural Threats 3:40 — The Rise of Post-Christian & Pagan Worldviews 3:59 — Paganism, Marxism & Competing Ideologies 4:17 — Understanding Today to Prepare for Tomorrow 4:54 — A New “Apology”: Defending the Christian Faith 5:59 — Early Church Apologetics: Justin Martyr & Rome 7:27 — Accusations Faced by Early Christians 12:21 — Modern Accusations Against the Church 13:46 — Romans 1: Awareness & Suppression of God 17:03 — The Search for Meaning & Spiritual Confusion 21:44 — Pagan Pursuits vs. Fulfillment in Christ 26:14 — Globalism & the Kingdom of God

In this episode, we sit down with Chad Henson, the new Chief of Police for the Paragould Police Department — a man whose journey has taken him from protecting the skies as a Federal Air Marshal to serving overseas in a UN mission, to leading drug task force operations across NEA. Chief Henson shares how those experiences shaped his philosophy of leadership and why he believes real change starts with character, humility, and a commitment to teaching. We talk about building healthy culture inside a department, why not everyone actually fears change, and how long-lasting cultural transformation happens from the inside out. He also outlines his vision for the future of PPD, including a major emphasis on officer development — increasing annual training requirements from 24 to 100 hours, equipping leaders at every level, and creating a department other agencies look to for instructors and best practices. We close by discussing the realities of drug trends in Arkansas, the importance of regional cooperation among agencies, and why “playing well with others” matters more than ever. If you care about leadership, community, or the direction of policing in Paragould, this is an episode you won't want to miss.

In this eye-opening episode, Amir Poudel, an environmental expert and a Ph.D. scholar at Texas A&M University, and an adjunct faculty at Johns Hopkins University, Washington D.C., shares his nearly 2.5 years of research and field experience living with the Rautes— Nepal's last nomadic people . Amir reveals how the Raute community has managed to preserve its ancient culture amid modernization. He discusses why the Raute migrate, their unique beliefs surrounding death and cleanliness, and how they view monkeys — a sacred and essential part of their identity, livelihoods, and hunting life. The episode explores the Raute hierarchy, decision-making traditions, and their remarkable meat-sharing culture that reinforces community unity. Amir also sheds light on the Rautes´ relationship with money, disputes and conflict resolution, and how they maintain their independence from modern governance systems. He discusses the impact of government´s social welfare funds, the challenges of cultural preservation, and the ethics of modernization in indigenous contexts. This conversation offers a rare, authentic glimpse into one of the world's few remaining nomadic hunter-gatherer societies, exploring anthropology, sustainability, and humanity's shared cultural heritage. He explores how monkeys and the life of Rautes are entangled with each other as both share a very dynamic geographical and social landscape. #RautePeople #AmirPoudel #NomadicPeople #NormadicLife #IndigenousNepal #AnthropologyPodcast #CultureAndSociety GET CONNECTED WITH Amir Poudel: LinkedIn - https://np.linkedin.com/in/amir-poudel-961535a2 TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@anepaldai YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@amirpoudel1
