There is an overall lack of information and education about pelvic health in the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum world. A new mother's ability to care for her newborn has everything to do with her mental, physical, and emotional health, but modern medicine and our society have lost touch with this message. Our systems are designed to nurture the infant, neglecting to empower mothers with dignity, truth, and preparedness. Let's change that! Join us to learn more! Dr. Laura Williams is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Board-certified Women's Health Clinical Specialist. She practices and lives in Colorado with her husband, three-year-old daughter, and a second child on the way. She founded Hearth Healing, a 100% virtual postpartum healing service as a pelvic health consultant. Although not a substitute for in-person healthcare, postpartum healing consultation should be viewed as a vital way to bridge the gap in maternal care. People deserve information about how to improve symptoms that impact their quality of life after childbirth without having to wait months or feel limited by a lack of childcare or transportation.  At Hearth Healing, Laura provides individualized answers to postpartum healing questions, early healing strategies, self-management advice, and guidance on appropriate resources, products, and providers. Our discussion focuses on the lack of information about healing after childbirth and the options during pregnancy for pelvic health. Laura explains symptoms to look out for and when to seek additional help–because pelvic health impacts mental health. Some people think physical therapy is all about getting massages. Others might think it's about doing a few exercises. Still others (SADLY!) think it's about getting a hot pack and ultrasound to their knee. Oof!Although my guest, Dr. Julia Rosenthal, and I are both physical therapists, we are not biased in knowing the truth that physical therapy is one of the only therapeutic professions that addresses physical and mental resilience, mindfulness, capacity building, trauma, pain management, and lasting changes to quality of life without the use of any kind of pill or invasive technique.Dr. Julia Rosenthal is a pelvic floor and orthopedic physical therapist and founder of Empower Physical Therapy in DUMBO, NYC. In our discussion today, we touch on how important it is to show our patients how strong they really are and how moving is safe since everything we do as physical therapists affects the nervous system. Julia helps people build habits, and movement habits promote longevity. She also bridges the gap between strength/fitness and pelvic PT. Julia has extensive clinical experience in treating people with both orthopedic and pelvic conditions in a variety of settings including multiple outpatient physical therapy practices in New York City, backstage on Broadway, and with multiple professional dance companies. She earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) at Columbia University, and went on to complete an orthopedic residency through NYU, where she specialized in Dance Medicine at the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries. Movement is such a crucial part of life. From using our hands to brushing our teeth, to using our legs to walk to the car, and even to using our fingertips to punch the digital pins of our credit cards to purchase our groceries, movement is a voluntary part of life that we often take for granted. However, certain undesirable incidents happen in life that remind us of how important movement can be, such as accidents, paralysis, morphological defects, and even moments of pain. The independence that we possess when we can move is indispensable and the beautiful field of physical therapy (PT) seeks to restore this freedom. Make your content so valuable that when people do decide to work with you - and if you make it easy for them to do so, they will - make it so valuable that they say “Your content helped me so much in my fitness journey, my business development, my self-care, it helped me so much that I just can't wait to work with you.”Now, I know what you're going to say - if I give it all away fro free, why would anyone pay to work with me? Well, I posed that exact question to Shanté in today's conversation so, you'll just have to keep listening to find out what she had to say about it!That's it for this week, but make sure you tune in next week for our conversation with Danny Matranga for a conversation about the five things he wants every client to understand about training, the difference between the idea of a “best diet” vs. “best dietary practices”, what Danny sees as the biggest scam in the fitness industry and potentially bleak inevitability that we will all eventually have to prioritize our health.Until then, we wish you STRENGTH and GOOD HEALTH.

WHY?Because to measure strength and power for movements you perform in real life, you need forces in 3 dimensions. Equipment like free weights and cable machines can only provide forces in 1 or 2 dimensions. To unlock the next revolution in human performance and fitness technology requires a total reinvention of resistance training.Click to find out more --> Proteus MotionWill WatermanPT, DPT, OCS, PRC, COMT, CSCSWill Waterman is currently the Head of Performance and Sports Science at Proteus Motion.
