The Honda MiniMoto concept has been an unqualified success. It started 11 years ago with the Honda Grom, and five models now feature the same 125cc motor in different chassis and transmission configurations. Now, the 2025 Honda Dax 125 is the latest member of the family, recalling the classic Trail 70 that debuted in 1969. Don Williams spent some time with the very entertaining new Dax 125, and tells us all about it. Our guest this week is Gary Turner, Managing Director of Blackstone TEK (BST). a company renowned for its design and production of carbon fiber wheels and other composite components for motorcycles. Gary chats with Neale Bayly and takes us through his amazing motorcycle journey. Turner started racing when he was 16. Some of the bikes Gary has ridden and raced include the rare and incredible Britten, as well as the Ducati Supermono. BST supplied the carbon fiber on such super-exotics as the Ecosse and the various Confederate models, and is currently a partner with Arch Motorcycle, the Gard Hollinger/Keanu Reeves project. It's been a fascinating ride so far for Gary, and it's an equally fascinating high-octane listen for us. Oh and FYI… if you're on iOS, you can listen to this podcast on the new Faidr App. That's F-A-I-D-R, and it's a new concept in podcasting. Cloud accounting royalty joined the podcast this week in the form of Xero's first UK managing director Gary Turner. In 2021, Turner took the decision to step back from Xero after nearly 13 years at the helm. During his time with the Kiwi cloud company, Turner took them from three employees and a turnover of £56,000 to an annual income of £150m from around 850,000 customers. Since his decision to leave Xero, he has taken on a range of responsibilities including mentoring, investing and starting a newsletter about running a fast-growing business and the leadership lessons he learned along the way. Speaking to technology editor Tom Herbert at AccountingWEB HQ, Turner outlined his views on the current state of the software market, which he feels is in a state of flux as the pendulum swings from a range of interconnected best-of-breed solutions back to a more consolidated approach. “If you look at pretty much any market, product category and industry at any time, it's likely to be in the process of either being bundled or unbundled,” he said. “The last ten to 15 years has been the pendulum swinging away from a bundled, suite approach in the world of software into a huge explosion of innovation, new products and services. “My sense is the pendulum might start to swing back towards bundling of the thousands of apps that are out there”. Turner also discussed how artificial intelligence could shake up the world of technology. “It's a great tech demo at the moment,” he said. “But like any new technology there will be a lot of hype that will die down and then people will get to work building some really practical applications for it.” “And what does AI mean for the future of accounting advisory?” he added. “Will it ride shotgun on calls with clients telling them how to optimise their cashfllow?” To listen to the full interview click on the play button at the top of the page or search for ‘AccountingWEB' on your podcast player of choice. Podcast written and hosted by Tom Herbert and produced by Will Cole.

David M. Kelly writes fast-paced, near-future sci-fi thrillers with engaging characters, cynical humor, and plausible science. He is the author of the Joe Ballen series, Logan's World series, and the Hyperia Jones series, and has been published in Canadian SF magazine Neo-opsis.David's interest in science and technology began early. At the age of six his parents allowed him to stay up late into the night to watch the television broadcast of Neil Armstrong stepping on to the surface of the moon. From that day he was hooked on everything related to science and space. An avid reader, he worked his way through the contents of the mobile library that visited his street, progressing through YA titles (or ‘juveniles' as they were known back then) on to the classics of Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and Harry Harrison.http://davidmkelly.comThe son of a career solider, Gary developed a keen interest in military history at a young age. His family lived in various locations in Canada and also a three year posting to Germany. Over the years he developed a passion for writing short stories and essays. Several of those essays have been published in a national magazine. His grandfather fought in The Great War and four decades ago, Gary began researching Canada's involvement in that conflict. Another obsession of his, which began fifty years ago, is riding motorcycles, naturally enough without his parent's knowledge. In 2011 he toured the old Western Front in Belgium and France on his BMW. That trip of a lifetime, led to the germination of his new novel, I'll Take My Chances.https://www.bluemaxchronicles.com/The Douglas Coleman Show now offers audio and video promotional packages for music artists as well as video promotional packages for authors. Host Richard Hattersley welcomes AccountingWEB's John Stokdyk and Maddy Christopher to No Accounting for Taste pod booth to cover the latest news and trends from the profession. On the show this week the team explores the virtual finance director (VFD) trend which is sweeping the profession and has become a core offering at Lime Advisory, the firm of this week's resident accountant Jamie William. He has seen the take up of these services increase over the past 18 months as clients have leaned on his firm for cashflow forecasts and Covid loan assistance. Jamie also reveals key ingredients of his firm's VFD techstack and how he thinks the trend will evolve. The team also rounds up the big news from the past week. The big news was the abolition of basis periods in 2022. The news was met with exasperation on AccountingWEB. We discuss the effect this will have on accountants and the implementation of Making Tax Digital. This past week also saw Xero's Gary Turner announce his departure from operational duties at the cloud accounting software. AccountingWEB's John Stokdyk reflects on Gary's legacy and how these cloud titans have shaped the way accounting firms now operate. Meanwhile, the team highlights the increasing number of firms having had a post-Covid client clear out. Clearing out clients is something accountants tend to do (or need to do) in the first weeks of February after the stress of January, but it feels as if these past 18 months have made that decision easier for some accountants. But is this always the right approach? To read the articles discussed, visit www.accountingweb.co.uk

Over the years, head injuries and concussions have become a more prominent studied topic in contact sports today such as boxing, MMA, rugby and American football. With films such as the Will Smith starring 'Concussion' and well publicised NFL case studies such as Aaron Hernandez being brought to light, increased amount of studies and research have been done to investigate the effects trauma and blows to the head have on Physical and mental health.I sat down with former professional Kick boxer and mixed martial artist Gary Turner to discuss how he traded in punching and kicking people in the head, to now studying the detrimental effects it has. A former 13 time world champion over three different sports, Gary is now doing a pHD from Oxford Brooks university on the impact of head injuries in contact sports such as boxing, rugby and American football. Stay tuned as Gary touches upon his earlier career as a professional fighter (having beat the likes of Tank Abbott), why he chose to look into head injuries and what more can be done to make sports such as boxing safer for young athletes.Don't forget to subscribe to ‘The Doctor Uz Podcast' on;Spotify- https://tinyurl.com/ybh38ftaITunes- https://tinyurl.com/ycm6zrrdYouTube- https://tinyurl.com/ya26b3r5To find out more, visit us on www.instagram.com/doctoruzpodcast or www.facebook.com/doctoruzpodcast.
In this episode Parrish visits with former Ole Miss defensive end Gary Turner (1973-1976), who along with Pete Robertson was among the second group of athletes to break the color barrier for Rebel football. They came one season after Ben Williams and James Reed officially opened the door. Today Turner, who was an All-SEC selection in 1975, lives in West Point. Listen to hear him detail his life journey in Mississippi as a black athlete and human being during times that were difficult to be just that.
Gary Turner is a former professional Kickboxer and MMA fighter with a host of world titles to his name, after i spend the first couple of minutes fanboying about his MMA career with talk about concussion and the devastating and tragic impact it can have, as well as some of the things we can do to mitigate the risks. Gray is currently studying a PhD on the behavioural effects of head impacts in combat sport, talks really eloquently on a subject that he clearly has a wealth of knowledge about, and we touch on issues, including suicide, that are still very fresh and painful for many in the judo community with the tragic deaths in the last year of Craig Fallon and Jack Hatton. Gary can be contacted with questions on gary@garyturner.co.uk. If youwant to hear Gary talk more on the subject he has done a couple of great episodes on the British Boxing talk poodcast which can be found at- https://podcasts.apple.com/sa/podcast/interview-how-dangerous-is-boxing-gary-turner/id1431854098?i=1000444214694 https://www.podbean.com/media/share/dir-hgvzr-67b14b2?utm_campaign=w_share_ep&utm_medium=dlink&utm_source=w_share

The Small Business Sessions, Enterprise Nation's podcast powered by Xero, is back for another episode. Series four, hosted by Enterprise Nation head of content Dan Martin, features a brilliant line-up of entrepreneurs and experts sharing insights and inspiration on how to start and grow a brilliant business. This week we're all about business growth with two entrepreneurs telling us how they've scaled their companies and what you can learn. Gary Turner is the co-founder and UK managing director of Xero. What started as a studio space in Bristol became a small shop with a budget of £500 and a lot of elbow grease. That business now has five stores in Brighton, Bristol and London. While Papersmiths and Xero are very different businesses, Gary and Sidonie have similar experiences and views on business growth. This week we have some really interesting stories for you as David and Simon are joined by a couple of great guests: Gary Turner, a friend of the show and Co-founder and MD of Xero Helene Panzarino, MD of Rainmaking Colab Norris Koppel, CEO of Monese We kick off the episode by talking about the third major acquisition this year: Global Payments buys TSYS for 21.5 billion dollars! The combined company will be lead by a 12 member board and go by the name Global Payments. Gary points out that with a name like Global Payments, the strategy is kind of hiding in plain sight and looking at the current state of the industry, there are quite a lot of things happening, particularly within payments. Also, try and say multi monolithic architecture after a glass of wine or two. Next up, we talk about Revolut. Are they the most-complained-about small online bank? The bank, which has 2 million customers had 171 claims made against them between 2015 and 2018, compared to only 82 claims made against Monzo. Despite receiving more complaints compared to Monzo and similar online banks, the number is still far less than Barclays and Lloyds who both had more than 100 000 complaints made against them during the same time period! Simon argues the title is slightly misleading... and David agrees! It is making a lot of very little. It is also worth pointing out that Revolut has more features and products then Monzo, so is it really fair to compare them both? Other stories include: NatWest is the “most complained about” Plaid comes to the UK A Goldman Sachs rival pulled out of the Apple Card deal on fears it will be a money loser Robinhood on track for at least $7 billion valuation with upcoming funding round French teen banking startup Pixpay raises EUR3.1m CBA invests heavily in tech-for-trust image rebuild NatWest apologises for patronising women, by patronising women All this and so much more on today's show. Our guest on this episode of the Higher Purpose Podcast is … me! Today, I’m having a conversation with my new friend from across the pond, Gary Turner, as I reflect on the journey of this very podcast. What I’ve discovered, how I’ve grown, and why Humans First has become such a big part of it all. The format of the Higher Purpose Podcast For this podcast, I just wanted to find people — whoever they are, wherever they’re at, and regardless of title — who are doing amazing things and integrating purpose into their work. And I’ve been blessed to meet and connect with an amazing community of people from around the world. I also decided I didn’t want to have interviews, I wanted to host conversations. That was a significant shift. I wanted to have unique conversations with my guests that they won’t have with any other podcast host, or that you won’t hear on any other podcast. The Humans First Movement The movement began for me through relationships. Marcel Schwantes and I were already connected, and he asked if I knew Mike Vacanti. I said I didn’t, Marcel made the introduction, and what was supposed to be a 30-minute conversation with Mike lasted for two and a half hours. For some reason, Humans First is a label that just connects like crazy with people. I like to think of Humans First as a multifaceted diamond. You can look at it from different perspectives, and each person will see something unique in the diamond — but we’re all still looking at this same multifaceted gem. The Humans First Series on the Higher Purpose Podcast There was no plan of doing a Humans First series on the podcast, but then I began to have conversation after conversation with people, and every time, there was this lift. There was energy. It was fun. And the guests weren’t showing up to say, I have the answer. No: it was to say, here’s my contribution. And I want to sample what other people are offering. Let’s have a conversation. To me, that’s the single biggest difference that I see characterizing Humans First. On community I’ve identified my zone of genius as Create, Connect, Converse, and so to me, podcasting is a conversation that connects people in the community. I don’t know the scale or the scope, but I’m going to begin hosting some in-person gatherings because we need to get in the room together. These are going to be unique meetings that aren’t going to be built around presentation — they’re going to be transformational conversations with like-minded people from around the world. Emergence Rather than trying to make things happen, for me, it’s all about the flow. The flow of energy, the flow of creativity. When you follow the flow, amazing things happen. Last week, I sent out an email to all the folks that have been in this Humans First series of conversations and I said, here’s an idea. And in a few hours, everybody said they were in. We’re in the process now of planning a series where we’ll have four or five people on the podcast at once, and have an unscripted and unplanned conversation that takes a topic and dives into it. That’s what we’re doing very soon! I’m electrified, ecstatic, and energized. I’m pretty excited about the things we’re talking about and I’m just thinking, wow, what’s next? What is possible? HumansFirst Leaders Connect Join me for the HumansFirst Book Club, where we do a deep dive into a book a month and often engage the authors in conversation.

From innocent escapades as a 15-year-old 'digital shoplifter' in Glasgow to developing the highly disruptive accountancy platform Xero, Gary Turner has a fascinating and uplifting tale to tell. Inspired both by his parents and by observing life in small businesses throughout central Scotland (the financial pressures, the hopes and fears; the chipped mugs and the daily sandwich van), Gary is firmly on the side of SMEs, and tells his story with passion, humour and warmth. Interviewed by Fraser Allen of White Light Media via Skype.

"It was selling slower than we thought, only because we were still only letting tech businesses in. So we had recruiters turn up, agencies, and we told them we couldn't accommodate them because we were focused on creating an atmosphere for tech businesses. And that was hard to do when available funds in the bank were at one point two thousand pounds and we had quite a lot of bills to pay..and that's available funds..we were deep into overdraft." On today's show I speak to David Galsworthy, co-founder of Techspace, Europe's co-working space for tech scale-ups in London and Berlin. Tech space now has six properties in London with a community of over 1,500 people and has recently opened a new space in Berlin. David's first forays as an entrepreneur were in the wild west of Ecuador over twenty years ago. He's now the proud co-owner of some of the best looking and best value co-working spaces i've seen. And with demand outstripping supply he believes we're still nowhere near saturation point. He also shares his favourite productivity hacks, podcasts, and advice to those getting into fintech. “We have a saying at Xero,” Gary says, “It's not the big that eat the small, it's the fast that eat the slow.' In this episode Business banking sucks, but it doesn’t have to, say this week’s stellar guests. The CEO of Tide and Co-Founders of xero and Penta join us to discuss how fintech is revolutionising SMEs (small- to medium sized enterprises/businesses). We talk to them about how fintech is giving business owners their lives back, simplifying processes, improving customer service, and saving them hours on admin every week so they can focus on growing their business. Work/life balance is a major problem for small business owners, who work their day job then spend hours on admin in the evening. Software and smart solutions created by our guests and other fintechs will solve that problem. “So your admin requirement is going to go away dramatically and you’ll get your life back. That’s my prediction for the next five years,” says George Bevis, CEO of Tide. Guests George Bevis, CEO of Tide @GeorgeBevis Gary Turner, Co-Founder and Managing Director at xero @garyturner Luka Ivicevic, Co-Founder at Penta @lukaivicev Ghela Boskovich, founder of FemTechGlobal @GhelaBoskovich (thanks for guest co-hosting, Ghela!) We expand on podcast 131 and delve deeper into body image and depression. Gary Turner is back as we ask the questions, where does a faulty body image perception come from, why visualisation is key, how food intolerances play into the 'chemical imbalance' theory, the root cause of many issues, and why images, videos and gym culture are compounding these issues we see.
Depression gets the better of many people, in this show we explore the root causes of shifts in your mental health and answer many questions you will have.
