Mark 11:1-11.1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?' tell him, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.' ” 4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” 10 “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest!” 11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve. Palm Sunday & Passion Week Preparation of/for the King How do we prepare? 1. Know the King 2. 1 Peter 2:4-12. Christians are persecuted across the globe on a regular basis. On average, 13 people are killed every day because of their allegiance to Jesus Christ. According to Open Doors, 5,898 Christians were murdered in 2022. The ministry has also tracked a vast increase in violent persecution in 2023. They anticipate an enormous rise in persecution in 2024. How shall believers respond? In this episode, Dr. Michael Wright explains a sound strategy for living in dangerous times. The apostle Peter encouraged first-century followers of Christ by reminding them that they are selected by God to be living stones and are securely placed next to the living cornerstone, Jesus Christ. Dr. Wright closes this episode with a song sung by Twila Paris. Give it listen and be encouraged. God is working through his church in perilous times. Welcome to Episode 22 of Trainers Bullpen, the ‘Evaluation of Tactical Movement and Firearm Draw Performance During Charging Knife Attacks' with Dr. Michael Kantor Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology at Ohio Northern University. It is of course no surprise to law enforcement officers and trainers that edged weapons can pose a lethal threat to officers. Many of the critical blood bearing vessels lie very close to the surface of the skin and even a small blade or an improvised edges weapon can quickly inflict potentially fatal injuries. Law enforcement trainers owe an extreme debt of gratitude to Lt (ret) Dennis Tueller who in 1982 first explored the question of at what distance does someone charging at an officer with an edged weapon pose a potentially lethal threat to an officer. Tueller found that a subject could cover 21 feet in the time it took an officer to draw their handgun and fire one round. Although some additional peer-reviewed research has been done since Tueller's original work on how fast suspects can sprint and cover ground and how long it takes officers to react, draw and shoot, Dr. Kantor's current study, using advanced measurement technology, is the first one to deeply explore the movement patterns and draw kinematics of an officer when a suspect is rapidly charging an officer. In this critically important interview, Dr. Kantor discusses the research, the findings and the shocking implications of this study for law enforcement officers and trainers. Summary of implications include. The “myth” of the perfect draw technique that successful officers do not repeat techniques they solve problems and repeat outcomes; One handed shooting – at close range attacks the brain will drive forward the draw and shooting response at the speed of survival. This typically involves shooting one handed as the muzzle clears the holster; “Movement is King” - How static range training instills exactly the opposite outcomes that officers need to survive these encounters; Functional fitness is lacking – fitness training regimes need to be designed to develop the explosive, fast-twitch muscle systems officers need to be able to move rapidly…and many more important takeaways. This study, ‘Evaluation of Tactical Movement and Firearm Draw Performance During Charging Knife Attacks' was published in Police Practice and Research in 2023. Just a reminder, this study is available at www.trainersbullpen.com

It is the 25th of December, that's right - the year 2021. Happy Christmas! Blessed Christmas to you! This is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“For unto us a Child is born,Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be calledWonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”Isaiah 9:6That was prophesied hundreds and hundreds of years before Jesus was born in that manger, in Bethlehem.“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”John 3:16I want to say to you today that that is the most incredible gift anyone could give to a person - To give His own child. And that is what our Heavenly Father did, today, 2000 years ago. He told His Son, “Go down to earth and help them”, that is what He is doing for you and me today.I want to say to you, today you might be lonely, you might be sick, you might be mourning but there was a little baby who has come into the world, to give you hope, to give you strength and to help you. His name is Jesus, the most beautiful name in my vocabulary... There is no other name. When I hear that name I want to weep with joy because He loves me so much, and He loves you so much, that He gave His life for us.Now folks, I don't know - this might be the last Christmas on this earth, that we have before the coming of the Lord! You know, I am a farmer and the Lord says, when you see a fig tree producing new leaves, you know that summer is around the summer. When you see these signs that are happening on the earth, know that my return is imminent. Now if we look at Revelation 22:20 - the second last verse in the whole Bible:“He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.”We need to be ready for the coming of the King - How can we get ready?Well, we need to believe that He is the Son of God. It is as simple as that. It is not about working your way to Heaven, it is about acknowledging that the baby in that manger is God made flesh, Immanuel. I want to pray a little prayer with you today if you don't mind, and I would like you to pray this prayer after me. I am going to pray a very simple scripture, Romans 10:9, and we will pray this together:If we confess with our mouths, come on, pray it... If we confess with our mouths, Jesus Christ, and we believe in our hearts that He has been raised from the dead, we shall be saved. Isn't that wonderful? Now just remember that. That is exactly what it is about - Its about faith. its not about good works. I want to close now because you have got things to do, you have got family to love and presents to open. I want to close with God's blessing. Numbers 6:24:“The Lord bless you and keep you;The Lord make His face shine upon you,And be gracious to you;The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,And give you peace.” Happy Christmas! Peaceful Christmas! We love you!God bless you and goodbye.

Hey Rebels! The $h#t is about to get real. You know you are living your life’s most true purpose when you are running hard after the things that keep you up at night. So here I am, writing the very book that in its unwritten form haunted me late at night to write it, called “Revolutionary Woman” and a thought came to mind about you, and us, as women, choosing to live life as a KING. (pause) Wait what?! In ancient Egypt, believe it or not, women had EQUAL RIGHTS and far more rights than even modern day women today. There were many times in history where a woman, yes a WOMAN operated as a Pharaoh, y’all. Let me say it one more time, a motha f*ckin’ PHARAOH. Does this blow your mind? I’m 100% Egyptian, raised in America and I’m picking my jaw up off the floor. Who would I be today, if this was taught to me in school? I can tell you I would have spent my 20’s completely empowered, building pyramids for my kingdom, instead of asking for the worlds permission at every step. WTF. It made me wonder how differently we would approach life if we did it with the mindset of being a Pharaoh. A modernized female King with permission to rule our own vision, hopes and dreams for our kingdom. We would have kingdoms, that’s for sure. There is enough sunlight for all the Pharaohs to bloom, ladies. In this episode you will hear: History about the role of women in different cultures/societies. How the oppression of women have caused us to lose our power and voice. When to act as King in your life and what areas of life call for it. Coaching Questions & Thoughts: What are ways you give up your rightful power in everyday life or in your career? When was a moment in life where you felt powerful, completely yourself, and feeling like a King? How can you step into the attitude of a King? If you could do anything without hesitation what would it be? Fun Quotes from the Show: “I am a woman’s empowerment crackhead. So, what I am trying to do is make sure you are in command in areas of your life.” “I don’t need to be this [a king] in every area of my life, however when I am coaching a woman, it’s so important to start here because we are so very much socialized to be second in command.” “There is this inference of being second in command to the king – there's so many things about being a Queen, while lovely, that still keeps you second in command in your world.” “We have been oppressed terribly and there’s so much systemic disempowerment towards women. In an effort to bust that up, and buck the system, I am wanting to invite women to really think about what their lives would be like if they were acting like a King.” Resources: Find Shereen at: www.awakentherebel.com (Stop keeping up with the Jones’ and download the happiness cheat sheet - learn all the science-based tips I learned at Yale on what actually makes us happy ❤️ )

Sermon Outline: Through his anointed king the Lord unifies and delivers from cruel kings God redeems his people who rejected his reign The voice of the Lord is still King Repent and throw yourself at the mercy of the Lords and his covenant to you and your King Family Discussion Questions: What was extra cruel about the first king which Saul freed Israel from? What foolish thing does sin do to our hearts as we consider making peace with sin instead of calling on Christ to redeem us from it? How does calling our thoughts about God "his voice" actually reject what the Bible teaches about how He speaks to His people? How is this a sure way to return to the cruel dominion of your own sinful heart? People are tempted to comfort themselves and eachother with the idea that God will forgive our sins are not that bad. Why is that a false and wicked comfort? Why could Israel be sure that God would hear their pleas for redemption? Israel's fate was now tied to the goodness of the anointed kings which God gave them. They could be swept away or remain. What surety did the people of God now have when God's own Son was given as our anointed King? How does it impact your prayers to know that prayer offered in the Name of Jesus will be answered based on how worthy He is, rather than how worthy you are?

This sermon is from April 24th, 2016. How can Jesus be both our great High Priest and our King? How can he be both David's son and Lord? What does this mean for our lives? The author of Hebrews says this story is "hard to explain" and that it contains "meat for the mature" not "milk" for infants. [Mark relied heavily on this excellent message from Don Carson.]

What is true praise of the King? How do we view praise as an element of getting closer to God? How is it impactful to us? As an extension of last week's message, Pastor Marcus takes us through an Old Testament story to teach us the importance we give to praising our King.
In the second week of Advent we take a closer look at the image of a Lion. What does it mean that Christ is our King? How should that affect our faith?
The King Archetype represents an integrated version of all other masculine archetypes. The Lover, The Warrior and The Magician in their full expressions, with all positive traits solidified, are baked into The King. Interestingly enough, the childhood version of this archetype - The Divine Child, is the first one to emerge in a person's life. To fully integrate the mature version of The King archetype, it usually takes many years and a lot of life experience. In this episode, we give an overview of The King's traits, its shadow versions, as well as how to access it in its fullness regardless of your age or the stage of life you are at. In This Episode Of Future Thinkers: - Recognizing the King's traits in children's behavior - The Divine Child as the embodiment of pure love, joy, and hope for the future - The Highchair Tyrant — the seeds of narcissism and entitlement - The Weakling Prince as the passive shadow of The King Archetype - Integrity, order, decisiveness, and responsibility in the full expression of The King - The importance of mentoring and giving "blessings" to young men - The home as the first domain of The King's sovereignty Productive, creative, protective of others — the important roles of The King - How being hyper-intellectual and hyper-rational can lead to shadow manifestations of The King - Different kinds of legacies The King can leave behind - How to apply and manifest the King's traits in everyday life
Photo taken by Rev. Karen Bridges1 Kings 3: 16-28; 6:1-14Solomon ruled in a time of relative peace which was good for him, because unlike David, he was not a warrior. Solomon was humbled that God chose him to rule, and in his early reign he prayed to God for wisdom and a heart to serve. He also asked God for strength to walk in God’s ways. God granted Solomon many things including a discerning mind and a loving heart. What would he do with these great gifts once he had the power of a King? How will we use these gifts that God gave us wisely?listen view

It's easy to become complacent and comfortable within our own strengths. "Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple." ~ Dr. Seuss When you are in a circumstance, do you stand in desperation hoping this will pass soon? Or do you pause and see what you've learned from the circumstance or storm that you just got through? We can be really good at complicating our own lives, trying to control all aspects. But we must realize that God is in control. "The beautiful things about learning is nobody can take it away from you." ~ B.B. King How many times do we rely on our own strength, our own knowledge? We must be open to see what God is teaching us; the sprinkles of His wisdom. Yet it's easy to shut Him out. "For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. April 6 One King, One Lord And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one. (Zechariah 14:9) Blessed prospect! This is no dream of an enthusiast but the declaration of the infallible Word. Jehovah shall be known among all people, and His gracious sway shall be acknowledged by every tribe of man. Today, it is far from being so. Where do any bow before the great King? How much there is of rebellion! What lords many and gods many there are on the earth! Even among professed Christians what diversities of ideas there are about Him and His gospel! One day there shall be one King, one Jehovah, and one name for the living God. O Lord, hasten it! We daily cry, "Thy kingdom come." We will not discuss the question as to when this shall be lest we lose the comfort of the certainty that it shall be. So surely as the Holy Ghost spake by His prophets, so surely shall the whole earth be filled with the glory of the Lord. Jesus did not die in vain. The Spirit of God worketh not in vain. The Father's eternal purposes shall not be frustrated. Here, where Satan triumphed, Jesus shall be crowned, and the Lord God Omnipotent shall reign. Let us go our way to our daily work and warfare made strong in faith.
Episode 0009: Matt wasn’t on the boat when the boat left the dock. He didn’t “get” Prince along with Jimmy Buffet and Bruce Springsteen. He doesn’t understand why Prince was considered a genius as compared to Miles Davis. Jim explains to him why he is wrong. Matt fires back with “Kind of Blue”. Jim acknowledges it as a very good “demo” album and brigs up the Prince album “Around the World in a Day” Really, what is improvisation all about? Jim doesn’t “get” it and Matt tries to explain it and why Jim is wrong. Back and forth they work their way back to Prince and his solo on “My Guitar Gently Weeps” tribute to George Harrison. Matt says “Meh” and Jim likes it. They both agree that Joe Satriani is great and could have done it just as well as Prince did. Could Prince beat up Miles Davis? Jim Thinks so. Who is the “King” How can people compare to Elvis? Why was Elvis “King”? Jim begins to think that maybe Matt doesn’t like Prince because he mostly just heard the music on the radio not unlike how Jim once felt about Steely Dan. Jim’s talks about his NEW TOY! We've generally been trained how to think about finance by the financial services industry. Their plan for your finances? Well, each step involves a financial product of some sort or another. But what if we think a little more strategically? Could we get better results? I think so. After speaking with today's guest, Doug Goldstein, I think that the metaphor of chess is a good way to train our thinking. Doug is the co-author of a book titled: Rich as a King: How the Wisdom of Chess Can Make You a Grandmaster of Investing. Enjoy this interview as we discuss how to approach finances like a chess game!
