As the major U.S. media continues to support the removal and imprisonment of Peruvian President Pedro Castillo along typical imperial/colonial lines, we decided to find out what has really been happening in Peru. We spoke with Political Scientist Carla Toche Casalino from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and the Universidad Antonio Ruiz de Montoya in Lima about the recent past in Peruvian politics. We began with the failure of the Kuczynski government in 2018 and the crucial role in ousting him played by Keiko Fujimori, leader of the far right and daughter of imprisoned Peruvian dictator Alberto Fujimori. We talked about the role of the mining companies in ousting politicians and the far-right control of the congress. We then discussed Castillo's rise and the effort to undermine him by Fujimori, whom he beat in a very close election in 2021, and how that has led to the current crisis. También nos atendió Eduard Soto, periodista y editor de El Tiempo, para hablarnos sobre la polémica generada por la publicación del escrutinio oficial del Senado en Colombia: “Las dudas vienen porque hay una diferencia muy grande entre el preconteo y el escrutinio… El Partido Conservador perdió 12.000 votos, el Partido Centro Democrático perdió 54.000 votos y Centro Esperanza perdió 50.000 votos. Mientras que el movimiento de Petro ganó 390.000 votos”, explicó. Y para cerrar, el jefe de Investigación del diario ABC, Javier Chicote, nos habló sobre el fin del ‘casadismo': “Pablo Casado era el líder del Partido Popular, y estaba llamado a ganar las próximas elecciones y quizás, con el apoyo de VOX, convertirse en el siguiente presidente de España. Pero eso ya no va a ocurrir”, dijo. Por otro lado, comentó: “Díaz Ayuso logró ser la presidenta de la Comunidad de Madrid, pero aún no era presidenta del partido en Madrid, y quizás Casado y su grupo pensaron que sería demasiado poder que tuviera ambas presidencias”.

La primera vuelta de las elecciones presidenciales en Perú celebradas el pasado 11 de abril dejó a dos candidatos antagónicos para medir sus fuerzas en el balotaje, que tendrá lugar el próximo 6 de junio. Estos dos candidatos son, por un lado, Keiko Fujimori, hija de Alberto Fujimori y líder del partido derechista Fuerza Popular y, por otro, Pedro Castillo, un profesor y sindicalista de Cajamarca de extrema izquierda que encabeza la coalición Perú Libre. Castillo quedó cinco puntos por encima de Fujimori, pero al tratarse de la primera vuelta, ambos candidatos recogerán voto de otras candidaturas en la segunda. Los sondeos sitúan por ahora a Pedro Castillo como ganador con aproximadamente el 40% de los votos mientras que Fujimori tan sólo asegura el 30%. Queda, por lo tanto, un tercio del electorado indeciso que será quien finalmente incline la balanza por uno u otro candidato. La campaña, que no se ha detenido en ningún momento, está siendo a cara de perro y ha llevado el debate a los extremos, justo lo contrario de lo que sucedió en las presidenciales de 2016, cuando Pedro Pablo Kuczynski midió sus fuerzas contra Keiko Fujimori desde una posición mucho más centrada. En aquel momento Fujimori se quedó a sólo dos décimas porcentuales y 40.000 votos de convertirse en presidenta. Esta vez espera que, partiendo de un resultado sensiblemente peor al de la primera vuelta de 2016, remonte de la misma manera que lo hizo Kuczynski entonces. Pero Castillo, que se dice admirador de Fidel Castro y apoya al régimen de Nicolás Maduro, no se lo pondrá fácil porque, tras muchos años de crisis, está consiguiendo reagrupar a toda la izquierda peruana. Jürgen Kuczynskis und Emanuel Brucks Fortsetzungsroman »Die letzten Tage von …« Mitschnitt einer Veranstaltung in der Reihe „Rückkehr und kultureller Aufbruch“ vom 14. Oktober 2015 Buchvorstellung mit Prof. Dr. Dieter Schiller (Literaturwissenschaftler), Dr. Thomas Möbius (Literaturwissenschaftler) und Gaston Isoz (Verleger, disadorno.de) Jürgen Kuczynski und Emanuel Bruck veröffentlichen 1931 unter dem Pseudonym K. Olectiv einen Fortsetzungsroman in der KPD-Zeitung ›Die Rote Fahne‹. Es wird die einzige publizierte belletristische Arbeit Kuczynskis bleiben. Der 1942 von den Nazis im KZ Dachau ermordete Bruck war Mitglied im Bund proletarisch-revolutionärer Schriftsteller, er ist heute weitgehend in Vergessenheit geraten. Der Roman, kollektiv verfasst, vereint Tagespolitik, Agitation und Anschauungsunterricht und fragt, ob sich sowohl ästhetisch als auch propagadistisch im Feuilletonroman ein neues Feld eröffnen lässt: Können auf diese Weise komplexe politische Ereignisse den LeserInnen einer Tageszeitung anschaulicher vermittelt werden? Lädt das Vorbild der beiden ProtagonistInnen Käte und Fritz auch die LeserInnen der ›Roten Fahne‹ dazu ein, selbst aktiv zu werden? Die beiden Herausgeber der Neuauflage des Buches, Gaston Isoz und Thomas Möbius, rekonstruieren die wenig bekannten Lebensstationen Brucks und fragen gemeinsam mit Dieter Schiller nach einer möglichen revolutionären Kunstform und literarischer Kapitalismuskritik heute.

Welcome to another episode of Chronic But Iconic. For this episode I was lucky enough to be joined by the wonderful Andrea from America, speaking about gratitude. Gratitude is the key to a positive mindset and an essential tool to help us in finding happiness. Our society is so focused on wealth, big gestures and material objects that we believe will bring us happiness. Chronic illness, chronic disease make us re-think our ideals, our beliefs and we have to re-wire our minds, teaching ourselves how precious our lives are and everything that is in it. We have to appreciate simply being alive and the people we are sharing our time with. When illness knocks us down, we go through a grieving and angry stage, whereby we hate our bodies, blame ourselves and often begin putting negative energy out into the world. We all need time to cry, it is healthy to let out the negative energy but we have to understand that putting negative energy into the world means that we receive negative energy back. The more we think positivity and act in a positive manner, we attract that energy back. Law of attraction is very real. Andrea shares her own experiences as well as hints and tricks on how to practise gratitude everyday. Andrea has her own amazing podcast channel - The Voice Of Hope, on Anchor - so be sure to give her a listen. She is amazing and speaks about some really important topics. But do you ever find that the way you’re parenting in the moment doesn’t necessarily support your overarching goals? So, if you have a goal to raise an independent child but every time the child struggles with something you step in and “help,” then your daily interactions with your child may not help your child to achieve that independence. With today's students' increasing social and emotional needs, counselors play an essential role in helping teens navigate life. Yet some parents might be uncomfortable with what their kids discuss in "confidentiality" with a school counselor. High School counselor Kevin Kuczynski acknowledges that "confidentiality is something that very important with teens," however he also says that "I try really hard to keep the lines of communication open with parents, so that anything that is even a remote concern, I will encourage (kids) to talk to their parents about it." Annie talks with Kevin about what goes on behind the counselor's door and how parents and counselors can become partners in helping tweens and teens.
