Send us a textAs millennials that have experienced one setback after another, many of us may feel a little disheartened as we fail to achieve some of the exciting life milestones that we thought we'd have by now.  With housing costs and the cost of living in general becoming more and more out of reach, we may never achieve the same American Dream that we were sold.  But maybe our legacy isn't about success as we were raised to understand it! Maybe our legacy is making sure that the destructive patterns that were passed down to us from generations before don't get passed down to generations after us.  That's the topic of this week's episode of The Millennial Reset- what it means to break the cycle and raise the next generation based on a framework that stems from self-expression, self-worth, and what's true today, instead of what we've been conditioned for in the past.  We're joined once again by licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Abena Berry, as we break down three important concepts:Understanding how trauma gets passed down from one generation to another, oftentimes completely unconsciously.Self-help techniques to begin uncovering some of the conditioning and subconscious programming that may have gone unnoticed until now.How to make sure that toxic generational patterns don't get passed down to our children by effective modeling.  You can follow Dr. Berry on TikTok and check out her new book on Amazon. Support the showvisit www.themillennialreset.com/podcast to subscribe and listen to all episodes.

Send us a Text Message. In this week's episode of The Millennial Reset, we're joined by licensed clinical psychologist, and mental health contributor to Good Morning America, Dr. Abena Berry, to learn what the heck it even really means to "find yourself" after decades of conditioning and "masking up" to fit with societal expectations.Millennials have always dreamed of a life with more purpose and creativity, but that's a real challenge when we've spent so many years of our adult lives walking around pretending to be an imposter of what we were taught about success and happiness.  Dr. Berry provides us with a few valuable tips to guide us millennials through this healing journey of getting back to your authentic self:Learning never stops. Learning about yourself is an ongoing journey. We struggle, we grow, we learn, and we CHANGE.  New learning and insights come with embracing the learning in times of change. You are not your conditioning. Psychology has already shown us that we are NOT born as blank slates, but that is how we are raised by default.  Our parents and society "program" us based on what they think will help us, but in reality, it keeps us living in a confined box, rather than living our lives true to US. YOU are the new parent. We can live our lives waiting on someone else, such as our parents, to change, or we can assume the responsibility of becoming the new parent to your brain that you always needed.  Do a values inventory, check-in with your beliefs, and start being kinder to yourself! Reparent yourself for the way you want your brain to be wired, instead of the way it got wired by others. Bottom line, there's nothing to "find" when it comes to your authentic self.  It's in you and always been in you, but you just have to uncover it first.  That's where the true inner work happens! In this episode of The Millennial Reset, Sarah shares her story of waking back up to her true, authentic identity and passions.  Sarah's millennial burnout and reset story is one that many of us might be familiar with.  She had a great job and team, but there was something missing- happiness.  And there was that nagging feeling that wasn't going anywhere, that she was meant for so much more than the job title that was defining her identity.  So Sarah chose to take the leap into her passions and inner child dreams, to pursue Reiki healing.  Sarah's story is a prime example of what can happen when we do the inner work of getting to know our inner child again, and to choose soul over ego.  You can learn more about Sarah's amazing Reiki business at https://www.serenityhealingwithsarah.com/Support the showvisit www.themillennialreset.com/podcast to subscribe and listen to all episodes.

Nothing screams "procrastination" more than the year it took us to edit this video after recording it! In this episode, we learn that the proper term for this is the "errand paralysis" - and it is one of the tell-tale signs of being en-route to burnout! Our society is complex and the technological advancements of the last century were all supposed to make our lives easier - yet it seems that we are under more pressure than ever to perform. But what are the metrics that we use to measure this performance? Are then even fair? Was it really easier for our parents? In this more-than-usually-personal episode, we dip our toes in these difficult questions as two millennials and argue for the necessity of a fine line between individualism vs community. In the age of self-help books, we always think we can fix ourselves, win the system, do more yoga, self-care, and win at life - but all of this is it not very useful if we live in an unhealthy community, where the measures of winning at life are not clearly defined - or even worse, they are just random - at least to a great extent.

Do you think you could be a better daughter/ friend/ girlfriend and feel guilt? Do you struggle to balance and are a hot mess?   We discuss how trying to keep everyone happy and fit everything in can lead to millennial burnout. According to author Malcolm Harris, author of Kids These Days: Human Capital and the Making of Millennials, Millennials (those born between 1980-2000), are bearing the brunt of the economic damage brought by the late-twentieth-century capitalism. He states, “If Millennials are different, it’s not because we’re more or less evolved than our parents or grandparents, it’s because they’ve changed the world in ways that have produced people like us.” He argues that this is also a reason why millennials are so burned out. On today’s episode, we want to explore the question: are millennials a product of a Capitalistic environment or are they its biggest benefactor?

Does Anne Helen Peterson's work paint with too broad a brush or do younger generations face a tougher road? How does burnout change the way we might be open to learning? Brandon discusses how every generation faces tough decisions about where their careers might go as they enter college. Mike explores how burnout and pressure around visual identity and online social comparison may be leading to new problems for teens and young people as it relates to their mental health and well-being. We close with Dan and Mike digging into the growing prevalence of mindfulness and social emotional learning as a potential way to provide coping mechanisms to counter some of the more negative aspects of these trends. Hey Everyone! We're back! Sincerely apologize about ghosting on everyone last week, but Nande and I had a scheduling conflict we couldn't avoid. That being said -- we're back again this week with another fantastic episode of The Standup Podcast.  A core tenant of Agile and Scrum is the idea of sustainable pace, and the reason for this is it prevents the team of burning out. Burnout is still a concern even outside of the team itself in how we interact and work at the office. On this week's episode of The Standup Podcast we dive into the topic of "Work-Life Balance". There's a great article recently that talked about the idea of "Millennial Burnout" (linked below) and how today's modern office environment almost feels like you have to be connected to work 24/7, which can have some very negative results. Making sure you're able to disconnect from work and take personal time is important to your mental health and your overall productivity as a worker.  We cover how you, as a leader, can help set the tone for a healthy work/life balance within your organization. Also items within your control to help maintain a healthy balance for your own sanity.
