A routine traffic call turned into one of the most unexpected stories of the week when police officers in Pennsylvania responded to reports of a chicken wandering into traffic. What followed was a short pursuit, a trip to the police station, and the creation of a temporary law enforcement legend known as "Lt. In this episode, Alex Pardo sits down with his longtime co-host and student Dan Wenzel for a season two wind-down conversation centered on the one thing no underwriting spreadsheet can measure: mindset. After 37 episodes of documenting Dan's journey into self storage investing, Alex and Dan pull back the curtain on the real growth that's happened, from near-paralysis on cold calls to confident conversations with storage owners across the country. This episode is a raw and honest look at how confidence is built through repetition, collaboration, and showing up even when you don't feel ready. If you've ever let fear, self-doubt, or the need for a perfect outcome keep you from taking action in your storage investing journey, this one is for you. You'll Learn How To: Build real confidence through consistent reps rather than waiting for a result to validate you Stop letting fear of rejection keep you from picking up the phone and calling storage owners Understand why collaboration with other investors accelerates growth faster than solo study Develop a "be, do, have" identity framework before the results show up Reframe a fumbled call or missed deal as a rep, not a failure Leverage broker relationships over time to sharpen your underwriting instincts Recognize the internal signals (nervousness, butterflies) that tell you to lean in, not back off What You'll Learn in This Episode [0:56] Alex opens the episode with the real obstacle holding most investors back from their first storage facility [1:20] Why mindset, confidence, and identity are the through-line of the entire season two journey [2:34] Alex breaks down the "be, do, have" framework and why most people have it backwards [3:26] Dan reflects on his biggest growth from episode one to episode 37 [4:32] How underwriting reps with other Storage Winners built Dan's confidence from the inside out [5:36] Was there a single light-bulb moment or was confidence an evolution? Dan answers directly [6:08] How an open broker relationship gave Dan a live benchmark to validate his own offers [7:24] Alex shares his ten-year podcasting anniversary and what a decade of reps actually produces [9:14] Why collaboration and a mastermind mentality separate investors who grow from those who stagnate [10:03] What no book or YouTube video can teach you: reading the human being behind the storage facility [13:48] What Dan can confidently do today that would have paralyzed him a year ago [16:34] Alex's personal story about a big opportunity that gave him butterflies, and what his wife said that snapped him back [18:17] Why not closing a deal by the end of the season doesn't define success or identity [20:11] Alex's closing challenge and how to connect with him for your first storage discovery call Who This Episode Is For: Investors who keep learning but haven't made their first offer yet People who freeze up at the idea of cold-calling storage owners Anyone tying their self-worth to whether a deal closes New and mid-stage storage investors who feel like they're "just going through the motions" Entrepreneurs who understand the technical side but struggle with the mental side Anyone who has consumed a lot of content and needs a push to take action instead Why You Should Listen: Season two of Storage Wins was supposed to be about buying a storage facility. And while that goal is still within reach, this episode makes the case that the most important thing Dan built over 37 episodes wasn't a portfolio. It was a version of himself capable of building one. Alex and Dan don't sugarcoat it. Confidence isn't something you feel before you start. It's something you earn through repetitions, through calls that go awkward, through underwriting deals alongside people who are a few steps ahead of you, and through showing up to record a podcast even on the weeks when the journey felt heavy. The "be, do, have" framework Alex references early in the episode is the spine of this conversation: you have to become the person first. The results follow. What makes this episode worth your time, whether you're brand new or already a few facilities in, is the reminder that growth is non-linear and often invisible until you look back. Dan couldn't have articulated his own evolution in episode one. But 37 episodes later, he can talk to any storage owner like the back of his hand. That's not luck. That's what happens when you put the reps in and refuse to quit. Follow Alex Pardo here: Website: https://storagewins.com Schedule a call: https://storagewins.com/call Facebook Group: Storage Wins Community Instagram: @alexpardo25 YouTube: Storage Wins Podcast If this episode stirred something in you, the best next step is simple: pick up the phone. There are 50,000 to 60,000 storage facilities in this country, with 64% owned by mom and pops. The blue ocean is real. If you're ready to take action, schedule a free 10 to 15 minute discovery call with Alex at https://storagewins.com/call. And if you're just finding this show, go back to episode one and follow Dan's full journey. You won't regret it.

Humility is a powerful (and mostly misunderstood) mental health skill that's grounded by self-knowledge and self-compassion. Humility is also a powerful antidote to rumination and harsh self-criticism and a tool to support mood and emotional resilience. We'll build up humility through this series by taking a positive psychology approach along with Dr. Daryl Van Tongeren's framework to build humility (know yourself, check yourself, go beyond yourself.) This episode is all about Step 1 (know yourself) and it turns out it's both the most uncomfortable and the most freeing place to start. [02:00] The humility paradox: who scores highest on self-reported humility? People with narcissistic traits. What this reveals about why self-knowledge matters. [04:30] Reflection vs. rumination: same self-focused action, completely different energy — and very different effects on anxiety and depression. [07:30] Clark Griswold on the roundabout: Aimee's perfect visual for rumination, plus Van Tongeren's concept of "right-sizing yourself." [09:30] Obstacle #1: The idealized self. When the gap between who you are and who you think you should be stops motivating and starts deflating. [12:00] Obstacle #2: The better-than-average effect. Most of us rank ourselves above average — and that's statistically impossible. How this positivity bias quietly inflates us. [14:30] Obstacle #3: The harsh inner critic disguised as self-awareness. Why beating yourself up isn't humility — it's ego turned inward. [17:00] Dr. Kristin Neff's insight: self-compassion is the foundation of honest self-awareness. You can look clearly when you're not afraid of what you'll find. [19:30] Rumination as an internal courtroom — and Aimee's personal story about chronic lateness, hard feedback from a friend, and what it took to actually receive it. [23:30] Henry's simple journaling practice: notice what you observed about yourself this week. No analysis, no judgment — just patterns, held gently. [25:30] Preview of next week's "Check Yourself" episode, and a closing note from Aristotle.   Full transcript here   Please remember that this content is for informational and educational purposes only. THE UNKNOWN OBSTACLE Romans 14:13 “Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.” Most of us think of a stumblingblock as something obvious like sinful behavior, a bad attitude, or a poor testimony before others. And certainly those things matter. But the word “stumblingblock” carries a much broader meaning. It can mean a barrier, hurdle, obstacle, or hindrance. Sometimes the greatest obstacle in another person's life is not something we are doing wrong… but something we refuse to do right.

Episode 5: May 17th, 2026: Shri Anuj Gupta, B Tech Mechanical 2003, Managing Director of Policy Consulting Firm BowerGroup Asia, former Govt of India policy expert, and former Chief of Staff to the Commerce Minister .Policy expert Anuj Gupta on how India Governs and why it matters for Business* The government has moved sharply toward outcome-orientation — targets, dashboards, PRAGATI reviews. What does that mean for how you sell to, partner with, or contract with the government?* The government operates with a clear priority stack — Swachh Bharat, Ayushman Bharat, PLI, ONDC. Reading that stack correctly seems like the most underrated business intelligence exercise in India. How do you read it?* if you knew exactly how a reform-oriented government thinks, decides, and executes, how would you run your business differently? This is a fireside chat hosted by the IIT Madras Alumni Association featuring policy expert Anuj Gupta, who examines the evolving relationship between the Indian government and the private sector. The discussion highlights how the state has transitioned from a mere regulator to a primary shaper of market structures, utilizing industrial policy and digital public infrastructure to drive rapid economic change. Gupta emphasizes that modern governance in India prioritizes outcome-oriented execution and scale, as evidenced by massive initiatives in electrification, poverty reduction, and the India Stack. Business leaders are encouraged to move from a reactive compliance mindset to an anticipatory strategy that aligns with state-driven goals like competitive federalism and technological innovation. By understanding the structural logic of current reforms, entrepreneurs can better navigate emerging opportunities in sectors like green energy, space technology, and logistics. Ultimately, the sources advocate for a collaborative partnership where businesses leverage government-built foundations to foster national growth and wealth creation.Brief Profile of Anuj GuptaAnuj Gupta is the Managing Director of Policy Consulting firm BowerGroupAsia. Giants are real, but they are not the whole story. We open with a sharp warning from 1 Corinthians 15:33 about how “bad company corrupts good character,” then trace how your community can also shape what you see when life gets hard. The same situation can look like a dead end or a doorway depending on the voices you allow closest to you. From there, we step into Numbers 13, where God sends twelve leaders to scout Canaan, a land He already promises to give them. They come back carrying evidence of abundance, yet ten leaders fixate on giants and fortified cities, spreading fear through the camp. Caleb and Joshua see the same facts and respond with courage, showing us the difference between an obstacle mindset and a faith mindset. If you've been stuck thinking “it's too hard” or “it never works out,” this part will challenge your framework. We also get honest about the days when you don't feel brave at all. Jesus' words about worry land with surprising simplicity: “Look at the birds.” It's a practical spiritual discipline for anxious minds and tired hearts, shifting our focus off self and onto God's steady care so faith can breathe again. If you want Bible teaching, Christian encouragement, and practical steps for spiritual growth, press play, then share this with someone who needs a better lens. She is a strategic execution advisor, who helps leaders finally move the things that have been sitting in the background for far too long. Sharon challenges the common belief that we don't move forward, because we lack time, but instead shows how friction, overthinking, unclear communication, and unnecessary complexity are often the real barriers. In this conversation, we talk about how to identify the one thing that's actually holding you back, how to simplify execution, and how leaders unintentionally become bottlenecks in their own organizations. If you have something that's been sitting on your list for months or even years, this episode will give you a new way to approach it and finally move it forward. Send us Fan MailThere's a season in life where everything you've been leaning on just... isn't there anymore. The neighbor moves. The sister takes a second job. The husband travels. The parents are across the ocean. And you're standing in the middle of what feels like a very loud, very clear message that you are on your own. What do you do with that?Angela and I have been circling this topic from a few different directions over the past several months, through disappointment, expectations, friendships, and this week it all converged in one conversation. Stoicism, Mel Robbins' Let Them Theory, Tara Brach's Radical Acceptance. Three different sources, same essential truth: there is a kind of freedom that only becomes available when you stop spending energy trying to control what you were never going to be able to control anyway. And the equally important flip side, that accepting what someone else does is not the same as condoning it. In this episode, we dig into:Why acceptance takes more courage than fighting, and why it's not the same as giving upThe "let them / let me" two-step, and why skipping the second part is where things go sidewaysHow stoicism has been quietly showing up in Angela's life for years, especially after a trip to AthensThe connection between forgiving someone and not drinking poison yourselfHow to set limits on someone without needing to be furious to do itSami shares the Christmas story (yes, that Christmas story, two separate years, no gift, being sent to find it herself) and what finally shifted when she stopped trying to orchestrate a different outcome. Angela gets into the roots of stoicism, Marcus Aurelius, Ryan Holiday, and why the ancient philosophers weren't telling us to feel nothing, they were telling us to stop white-knuckling every wave. The image we kept coming back to: you don't get less battered in the storm by having a smaller boat. You get a bigger one.You can influence people. You can guide them, persuade them, set limits with them, and reach agreements with them. What you cannot do is control what they do. And the most exhausting part of trying is that it doesn't work — and it costs you, every single time. This episode is permission to put that particular weight down. Not because it doesn't matter. Because you matter more.Press play. GUEST BIO: WILLIAM ATTICUS PARKER   William Atticus Parker is a writer, director, producer, and actor living in Brooklyn, New York. At twenty-one years old, he has already written, directed, and produced two micro-low-budget feature films. Forty Winks, starring Justin Marcel McManus and Susan Sarandon, had a successful festival run and is now streaming on Prime Video, Tubi, Roku, and more. Atrabilious, starring Leon Addison Brown, Mark Boone Junior, Jeffrey Wright, and Whoopi Goldberg, had a successful festival run and will release on Prime Video July 18th, 2025. Forty Winks was filmed in Black & White with Atrabilious drenched in a neon color palette. Despite technical and financial limitations, both films did very well with critics and audiences alike. Forty Winks was filmed in less than a week with a budget of $5,000 when he was 17 and Atrabilious was filmed in a week and a half with a budget of $20,000 when he was 18 – both films were entirely self-funded. The Auction, his upcoming third feature starring Raúl Castillo & Mary-Louise Parker, is set to take his small-scale darkly comedic thrillers to a science-fiction horror spectacle. His acting career began as a seven-frame cameo in Forty Winks. He has now taken on roles in The Gray House (directed by Roland Joffe), Obstacle (short film with Megan Boone) and Their Town (written by Mark Duplass) as well as being set to appear in The Auction. It's Casual Friday on The Majority Report   On today's program:   Julie Menin, the multimillionaire Speaker of the New York City Council, is opposing Mayor Zohran Mamdani's budget proposal by responding to a moderate tax increase on the ultra-wealthy with cuts to city programs. Unrelated, Menin owns a $22 million mansion in the Hamptons and a $7 million apartment on the Upper East Side. No conflict of interest there.   Heather 'Digby' Parton joins the program to recap the week's news. Check out Digby's work at Salon as well as her blog Hullabaloo. Topics include the American right-wing's desperation to keep Victor Orban in power in Hungary, Trump firing all the women around him, Iran and more. Trump In the Fun Half:   Harry Enten presents polling that shows Congressional democrats' ratings are in the toilet.   Joe Rogan gets very uncomfortable every time Theo Von brings up the genocide in Palestine.   Matt Gaetz tells Benny Johnson about an alleged briefing he got from a uniformed servicemember about an interspecies breeding program between aliens and people captured in warzones operated by the CIA.   Karoline Leavitt is fighting to keep her job by flattering Trump in typical North Korean style ass kissing.   Megyn Kelly is not happy with the Trump's administration's handling of the war of Iran.   A couple of pastors from Pete Hegseth's denomination perform unconvincing toxic masculinity - these guys are certainly not hiding from themselves.   all that and more   Preorder Molly Crabapple's book: Here Where We Live is Our Country.   To connect and organize with your local ICE rapid response team visit ICERRT.com The Congress switchboard number is (202) 224-3121. Wisdom of the Sages
1750: The Distracted Mind | Obstacle or Opportunity?

Wisdom of the Sages

Every time your mind wanders during meditation is a great opportunity. The wandering mind can be exactly where the real yoga begins. In this episode Raghunath welcomes back Kaustubha, fresh off a pilgrimage to Vrindavan, India — unpacking his bags and his insights in equal measure, starting with a nugget from William James, the father of American psychology. James called it the very root of character, will, and judgment: the ability to bring back wandering attention, over and over again. The Bhagavad Gita agrees — and so does a striking passage from the Srimad Bhagavatam, an ancient Sanskrit text on consciousness and devotion, describing how love deepens through hearing, contemplation, and the steady return of attention to the highest spiritual content. Wisdom of the Sages exists for exactly that — to keep the mind returning, day after day, to what matters most. ******************************************************************** LOVE THE PODCAST?
