We discussed the moveVM, Rushi's community building strategy and the testnet. We also explored how regions like Southeast Asia and LATAM are leading the way in everyday crypto adoption, while the USA is trying to get its footing with regulation. On the more technical front, we discussed Rushi's thesis on the shared sequencing layer, M1. Movement's shared sequencing approach plays a crucial role for the development of their Move stack. Another key takeaway was the importance of user feedback during Movement's testnet phase. They learned valuable lessons about quality control, third-party integrations, and how to improve the user experience by making onchain interactions smoother and easier for non-crypto natives. We are huge proponents of the modular thesis as our entire brand is centered around this. We often challenge ideas which we have a shared thesis with as part of the channel, as well as welcome new ideas to the the mix. In today's video we got the chance to understand the idea behind the integrated thesis with Movement Labs and Omni have been pushing forward. While we did spend some times talking about the different terminology, to us that's not the important part. In fact, we want to focus on less confusion for all of those involved in the modular ecosystem. We still prefer modular. However, the important takeaways from this conversation stem from the ideas of solving the fragmentation issues at hand with modularity and "putting all the pieces of the puzzle" together in a cohesive way. In today's episode, we understood the challenge of describing hybrid blockchain designs with various modular parts, leading to the term "integrated." These were initially called "Frankenstein chains." Unlike traditional monolithic blockchains, integrated solutions combine modular elements into cohesive, efficient systems. This approach draws parallels to microservices in modern software, offering flexibility and optimization...but isn't this just the meaning of modular? Kinda... Integrated solutions, as posed by Rushi, Austin and others focus on reducing fragmentation, and bringing different modular parts together, thus enhancing user experience through abstraction and seamless interaction. We found room to counter, learn, and understand the vision of where the modular movement is headed. Again, the terminology is not the core part so much as the idea of where we are headed as an ecosystem. We were speaking to a liquid fund in Denver who just wouldn't deploy capital into DeFi products on EVM because of the risk of re-entrancy bugs and other exploits. However, what they did mention was they wanted to deploy into Movement's upcoming L2 and they are actively deployed on Aptos, because of the security of the MOVE programming language. When we heard this, we knew our bullish conviction in Movement since summer of last year was going to pay off. In today's Modular March presentation we speak with Rushi Manche, co-founder of Movement Labs, and ask him “Why Movement?” like, really, why? He took us through why he's so bullish on M2, along with the MoveVM. Rushi's energy and ambition is rooted in addressing some of the most pressing issues facing blockchain adoption today: enhancing security, reducing transaction fees, and creating an open framework for developers to build. Initially created by the minds at Facebook for the Diem project, MOVE programming language stands out for its security and robustness… But, is it really the best tech? As you know, we've set out in modular march to not be a shillfest, rather to seek the truth amongst the noise and learn alongside you. We do just that in today's presentation. Enjoy!

Death is a topic that is often avoided or ignored, but it is one of the few things that is absolutely certain for living beings. In this episode of What's What, Rushi and Chris discuss Eastern and Western perspectives on death, the moral problems with suicide and medically assisted dying, and the spiritual aspects of the dying process. “When death comes, it's just like winter. We don't say, 'There ought not to be winter.' That the winter season, when the leaves fall and the snow comes, is some kind of defeat, something which we should hold out against. No. Winter is part of the natural course of events. No winter, no summer. On the surface, propaganda is relatively simple - it is the dissemination of information (facts, arguments, rumors, half-truths, or lies) to influence public opinion and it is often used to promote a specific political cause or point of view. But the discussion around propaganda becomes much more complex when we start to ask questions about intent. It is easy to look at opposing view points and say we know the intent behind them and label them as propaganda, disinformation, or misinformation - but it's much harder to look at ourselves and question our own intent and our own beliefs. In this episode of What's What, Rushi and Chris sift through their biases and beliefs about the world, and try to reach a shared understanding of truth. Taoism (or Daoism) emerged in China around 500 BCE when the philosopher Lao Tzu wrote the Tao Te Ching. The word Tao has many translations but one of the most common is "the flow of nature" or according to Alan Watts "the course of things". At the heart of Taoist philosophy is the belief that the best way to maintain order is to not try to maintain order. By relinquishing our desire for control, we create space for spontaneity and adaptability. Just as a river flows effortlessly, finding its own path around obstacles, Taoism invites us to navigate life's challenges with grace and flexibility. Rather than resisting the natural flow, we learn to flow with it. In part three of our mini-series on Eastern philosophy, Rushi and Chris discuss the Tao and how it relates to political and economic systems like communism and free market capitalism. The second half of the show gets deep into Taoism and transgenderism, and what the "flow of nature" truly means when it comes to the free will of human beings. Is it possible for humans to have "unnatural" thoughts and do "unnatural" things, or is everything we do natural because we are part of the natural world? Tune in to find out. "The great Tao flows everywhere, both to the left and to the right. It loves and nourishes all things but does not lord it over them. And when good things are accomplished it lays no claim to them." - Lao Tzu from the Tao Te Ching What's What is produced by Vayus Media - click on the links below for more content about counterculture ideas, Earth-conscious living, and Eastern philosophy and religion: YouTube @vayusmedia Instagram @vayusmedia Instagram @chrissiracuse Facebook @VayusMedia Twitter @VayusMedia TikTok @vayusmedia Vayus Media LinkedIn What's What LinkedIn

Episode #11: Telemedicine Pros & Cons

Friendly Neighborhood Patient

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 10, 2022 7:00

Telehealth and telemedicine offer so many benefits you should take advantage of. But just like how you might take whey protein, telemedicine should be a supplement and not a replacement for your health needs. The one thing we should clear up right off the bat is that telehealth and telemedicine are not exactly the same. Telehealth options tend to be more public-facing and include things like mental health or education tools. Telemedicine is more along the lines of getting official medical care through an app or software interface. Telemedicine can however, be considered a part of telehealth, just like how a square is a rectangle but not always the other way around. However, telemedicine and telehealth aren't replacements for in-person advice: like I alluded to earlier, you don't want your protein powder to replace your whole nutrition plan. For the purposes of this episode, I'm going to focus on telemedicine, the pros, the cons, and how you can use these tools correctly. You shouldn't use a power drill without knowing its limits. The fact that you can get medical help from your home or during your travels is pretty awesome regardless. Even though telemedicine was already growing before the covid pandemic began, the geographic barriers to getting care just went poof. Having this access is also great for the elderly, patients who can't move very well, and for busy professionals working from home. Now you might ask, oh Rushi this is nice and whatnot, but how do I actually get the virtual help? Whether you download apps like Teladoc or use a health system's proprietary software, there are usually three kinds of telemedicine visits. The easiest one to grasp is what some may call a synchronous or live consult. This is just what happens when you talk with a doctor in real time, probably over video. Any visit of this nature works best for when you can't make it to a clinic in-person but need an official medical opinion quickly. The next visit type is called asynchronous or store-and-forward. This involves you sending pictures or necessary medical history to someone who gets back to you with advice. In my line of work this is what happens when patients get worried about their moles and send pictures to get a handful of spots checked by the doctor. The last option is remote monitoring, which is when you have a provider check important stats like your blood pressure or glucose over time and make changes as needed. No matter what type of visit you prefer, the take-home message is that you should let telemedicine be your swiss army knife to get started on your medical needs in a timely manner. Some apps like Teladoc or MD Live can get you access to a professional in under 24 hours. Getting an opinion that fast is wonderful, but you should draw the line for what needs to be done in-person. However, this doesn't have to be black and white. Let's say you have a rash or some kind of break out. You open whatever telemedicine app is on your phone and you speak to a general doctor that same day. You might then get referred to a specialist like a dermatologist for in-person or virtual help to better fix your issue.Specialties like dermatology, radiology, family medicine, and cardiology mesh with telemedicine nicely compared to other sectors. We're not yet at the point where your surgeon could do many clean robot-assisted procedures from halfway across the world, but we're getting there. I'm going to link a longer article by the company eVisit that summarizes a lot of the telemedicine basics and screenshot a separate graphic that shows the best and worst uses of virtual care. I'd argue that telemedicine is at its peak when patients get continuity of care over a long period to ease lifestyle and chronic issues. Not everything goes to plan. I want to be fair in talking about the less effective side of virtual care. For one thing, not everyone is tech savvy, even in 2022. Both providers and patients might have problems with internet connectivity or may not know how to switch the camera on a phone. You don't need to a tech power user to fix this issue, but for virtual care you should use the device you find most intuitive whether it be your phone, computer, or tablet. Another issue is that we can lean hard on telemedicine or telehealth for replacing all in-person care, which can be dangerous because some issues might only be found during actual physical exams. Also, heaven forbid that someone would use a telemedicine app as a replacement for an emergency that should be taken care of with 911. As I've talked about in previous episodes, there are steps worth taking for exploring your options with in-person doctors. You can definitely try a combo where you see the primary doctor once a year and then seek assistance via telemedicine as needed throughout the year. Another thing to consider is that HIPAA and other privacy rules that govern how patients and doctors communicate online about health needs could also change on a dime. To address this concern, you can ask your provider or insurance company if the primary telemedicine platform being used encrypts your data and is HIPAA-secure. Due to the pandemic, there are exceptions in place but it never hurts to ask if the software of choice makes sense with a security standard. And last but not least, pricing can also be an issue. Since the onset of covid, generally speaking, insurance plans are willing to foot the bill for a remote visit, but platforms can still charge you a convenience fee per consult or providers might end up having you get services or advice that would be considered out-of-network. For those of us who ordered a lot of food from DoorDash or UberEats, the hidden and subtle fees on top of the main course add up fast. This why you should review pricing or fee schedules published on telemedicine platform websites or call the number on the back of your insurance card to get an idea of your virtual care benefits.Even with all of telemedicine's pros and cons, the long story short is to use the tools correctly without letting the tools use us. Although telemedicine costs and coverage might be murky at best, there are great tools you can use to handle your medical expenses, whether they be virtual or in person—the HSA and FSA! In the upcoming podcast, we'll talk about the heath and financial benefits of those accounts. Subscribe and stay tuned to Friendly Neighborhood Patient to get informed about healthcare. One, finding out how to barely survive, and second, how to thrive....What are the challenges in front of companies right now?4:47Because of the pandemic, many companies are struggling just to connect with their customers today. So they have to look for ways to either find new products or new services to develop, so they can connect with their customers. As a fresh entrepreneur, what should anyone do to innovate?7:53One, develop a culture of innovation. Create an atmosphere to praise and give recognition to your employees for experimenting, innovating, and learning from their failures.8:13Second, companies need to understand their DNA, their core strengths. They need to re-examine what their capabilities are. 8:28Lastly, CEOs must be involved when talking about innovation. Their vision needs to be communicated and reinforced to their employees. Key-takeaways for the listeners21:53Innovation happens through collaboration, collaboration within your company, your partners, your suppliers, your customers and all the people you can involve in the whole ideation process. 22:45Innovation is a continuous incremental process. KEY QUOTES:3:16-3:21“It seems obvious to look to innovation, but it always is not easy to create the business of tomorrow.”6:55-7:07“Many companies are understanding that customer focus is what they need to really be thinking about right now. And shifting their business models is a great place to start.”8:43-9:05“The idea to innovate actually begins at the CEO level, who then has to create this culture of innovation, and understanding, examine their capabilities, and then create partnerships within their organization as well as external partnerships to support the innovation process.” CONNECT WITH BELLA:Website | LinkedIn

Remember to register for my webinar on the 25th January - The Traps to Avoid in Property Investment This Year! Happy New Year! Did you manage to take some time off over the break? I did… two whole weeks mostly away from my computer. OK, I'm terrible at putting my feet up, but I loved getting creative with DIY and adding a design twist to our lake house. I'm excited to live here for a few months before it goes on Air BnB! If you want to see progress, come follow me on Instagram @natashaccollins (In fact, I've enjoyed it so much, I think I'll make this house renovation an end of year tradition. Buy something new, do it up, move on in two weeks over Christmas!) These two weeks also gave me time to think, what will 2021 bring? I'm not a New Year Resolution kinda gal. I take this time to set business goals, so that my team and I have something to aim for. This year it's to double the number of Members in the Members Club and double my Surveyor team as I'm going to need more hands on deck to support all of these portfolios. Personally, I'm open to what happens. In terms of the property market… I'll give it to you like the weather forecast. Residential; a stable market. More tax hikes for second home owners and investors (see the precedent set in Wales and Rushi's need to raise income). No SDLT STILL for first time buyers and single home owners. Even harder hoops to jump through for lending for both. All of this will keep market values stagnant. Oh… I also think rents will stagnate to and probably be capped at universal credit levels. Invest in moving assets which will grow over a 10 year period, don't look for the unicorn BRR in 6 months as lenders might not play ball. Commercial; A bloody mess. For big commercial tenants who've failed to communicate or paid rent (even whilst declaring profits) expect forfeiture on 1st April as Landlords have had enough. The potential changes to PDR will signal the demise of the high street as we know it regardless of Robert Jenrick and his £830 Million #futurehighstreetfund (OK mate, you're going to save every high street with that are ya?!). Give it until 2025 and we'll see if this is a good year… commercial market trends typically change every 5 years. However the PDR will keep commercial values stable. Commercial landlords there's still money to be made, just pick good tenants and think about tenant mix, please, I'm begging you as that's the only way to keep your tenant trading. That's my 60 second pitch… you want all of my predictions AND what you should be focusing on right now, go listen to my podcast
