In this thought-provoking episode, we delve into the complexities of love and relationships with our special guest, Dr. Mark Hicks. While love can be simple, it often feels intricate and challenging due to our past and present experiences. Together, we explore the question: “What Makes Love So Difficult?”Dr. Hicks addresses the impact of toxic relationships and chronic issues that can lead to unresolved conflicts, ultimately causing some relationships to reach a breaking point. He emphasizes the importance of self-reflection, encouraging listeners to stop and consider their contributions to relationship dynamics rather than defaulting to defensiveness with statements like, “That's just the way I was raised.”Throughout the discussion, Dr. Hicks introduces two crucial stages of grief and acceptance that lay the groundwork for healthier, more productive relationships. He eloquently articulates that love is a feeling, a learned process, and a vital skill set—integral to cultivating deeper connections and enhancing our self-worth.Drawing an inspiring analogy, Dr. Hicks compares the soul to a diamond that may appear to be just a rock after rolling around in a cow pasture. This diamond can be polished with care and attention to reveal its true beauty. He reminds us that we are seen as precious by God, the Creator, the I AM Presence, and Christ—a powerful affirmation of our intrinsic worth.About Our GuestDr. Mark A. We are called to cultivate listening communities in a society that does not listen well and that does not fear God. I believe we must speak confidently, faithfully, boldly, and courageously. If I stand up in my congregation and they don't trust that I believe what I'm saying, that I am who I say I am, that I am a Christian, then the appeals to emotion, the appeals even to the Word will probably fall on doubting ears and heart. I never take that trust for granted and I work to earn it every single day of my life.---Listen to Rev. Dr. Connie Phillipson being interviewed by CBS Ambassador Rev. Dr. Andrew Stirling. She became a member of the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation (the Order of Preachers) in 1981, and served as a campus minister in Illinois and Wisconsin. At A Cross Road: Church Troubled: Consumerism & Simplicity by Venerable, Dr. Felix Udo AnyasorThere are some Ideological and structural vices of life, and when not given attention, may spread like cancer. Consumerism was known to be a societal and secular vice, in a sense, and also one of the engendering factors to corruption in the governmental and some business areas. But when consumerism finds its way into the church, where worshippers are supposedly spiritually edified, then the world itself is in trouble. "When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"(Psalm 11:3).Venerable, Dr. Felix Udo Anyasor provides an in-depth look into the church today, and the many terrible effects consumerism has on the individual members and church community as a whole. He provides guidance on how to overcome this proverbial tumor, to walk in love as Jesus; making sacrifices on the mortal plane to save souls now, and the afterlife.About the AuthorVenerable, Dr. Felix Udo Anyasor moved to the USA in 1982. He has always stayed in touch with his connection to Nigeria, specifically his tribe, the Igbo. He has been involved in community activities ranging from cultural to religious organizations. Dr. Anyasor and others saw the need for the Nigerians in Diaspora to identify with various important organizations, especially churches that serve the community. He is currently the rector at one of the churches, Christ Angical Church in Houston, Texas.Dr. Anyasor is married with four children and some of them are integral part of his ministry. He enjoys singing, preaching, exercising, and swimming. He has special interests in writing, travel, and education. Before becoming a pastor, he worked as a registered respiratory practitioner. He received his Doctor of Ministry Degree in 2019 from Houston Graduate School of Theology.https://www.amazon.com/At-Cross-Road-Consumerism-Simplicity/dp/1638671109/ref=sr_1_1?crid=R421GGRDK9YG&keywords=Dr+Venerable+Felix+Udo+Anyasor&qid=1667579135&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjY2IiwicXNhIjoiMC4wMCIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&s=digital-text&sprefix=%2Cdigital-text%2C303&sr=1-1https://www.ceac-anglican.com/http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/111722kppa.mp3

My guest on the show today, Dr. Christopher Yuan, is a man I first heard about from my spiritual father a couple of years ago, who shared a video of Dr. Yuan giving a testimony of his remarkable redemption story with his Mom. It was truly incredible. But today, we're not going to spend as much time talking about Dr. Yuan's testimony, but more importantly, we're going to talk to him about his latest book, Holy Sexuality and the Gospel, and learn how we (as men) can understand same sex attraction better, and as fathers, how to biblically love and minister to those (maybe our own children) who have same sex attraction. Dr. Christopher Yuan is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, and he holds a Doctorate of Ministry Degree and a Masters Degree in biblical exegesis. And Dr. Yuan has taught as a professor at Moody Bible Institute; and he also co-authored his first book with his mother: entitled, Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son's Journey to God, a Broken Mother's Search for Hope – which has sold over 100,000 copies and is now in eight languages. Welcome to episode thirty-nine of New Creation Conversations. In today's conversation I am joined by a good friend and a wonderful thinker and minister, Dr. Corey MacPherson. Corey has served, for the last seven years, as the Associate University Chaplain and the Protestant Campus Minister at Colgate University. Prior to that Corey served for eight years as Vice President for Spiritual Development and Church Relations at Eastern Nazarene College. Corey, and his wife Edie, have also been church planters, founding the Northshore Church in Stony Brook, NY. Corey has written numerous devotionals as well as articles on preaching and has been a regular contributor to the Huffington Post. Corey earned a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University, a Master of Divinity Degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Asbury Theological Seminary. Corey and I got to know each other through his ministry at ENC and serving on a lengthy committee assignment together for the denomination. In that time, I grew not only to have great respect for Corey's gifted mind, but also grew to value his wise and discerning heart. I have a great deal of respect for Corey's ministry – especially to college students. And I think he has a lot to teach us about how to minister in a culturally diverse and religiously pluralistic context.

A former white-supremacist and Klansman, once infamously called the "most dangerous man in Mississippi," sits with Jonathan and retells his incredible journey from a life of violence and hate to a life of radical love fueled by the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. In high-school, Thomas was enticed by extremist ideology and became involved in the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. He was shot and wounded several times and arrested by police after an attempted bombing of the home of a Jewish leader. Thomas was sentenced to thirty years in the Mississippi State Penitentiary. He then escaped prison but was captured by the F.B.I. He was returned to prison where he would spend the next three years in a small, solitary cell. During this time, Thomas began to search for truth. He started with the great philosophers and was then led to the Bible where he truly encountered Jesus Christ for the very first time. This dramatic interview will have you in awe and on the edge of your seat as Thomas tells of his radical transformation that smacks of a live action movie. His complete change is evidence that the Gospel of Christ can transform even the hardest heart and mind.Thomas A. Tarrants is President Emeritus of the C.S. Lewis Institute. Is Mass Evangelism Effective? Recently I finished earning my Doctorate of Ministry Degree at Oral Roberts University and the focus of my research was mass evangelism. I looked at historical, theological, and academic research into mass evangelism and my research project involved collecting information about an evangelism crusade that we did in Caicó, Brazil. So what did the research show about the effectiveness of doing mass evangelism?

On October 2nd, the International Day of Non-Violence, we would like to thank Rev. Canon Leonard Hamlin, Hardy Merriman, Rivera Sun, and Mary Elizabeth King for the excellent discussion on the current state and relevance of nonviolent action in the contemporary globe. Grievance and deprivation, perceived or real, tempt groups into violent behavior. Rapid change, social upheaval, and uncertainty make violent expressions of social discontent even more likely. It is in those moments that we are called to demonstrate a heightened sense of restraint and sound judgment. It is in those moments that nonviolence presents as a timely and timeless concept for contemporary societies. And yet, while few would disagree about the virtue of nonviolence, a similarly firm belief and understanding about its power, strategy, and discipline is much harder to locate. The M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence and Rumi Forum, proudly inspired by two masters of nonviolent action, are co-hosting this event on Gandhi’s birthday, the International Day of Nonviolence. The program features a panel from scholarly as well as practitioner backgrounds. Our speakers will guide an exploration of the current state of nonviolent action around the globe, its growing relevance amid social unrest, and efforts to make it an inherent element of individual and collective behavior. Dr. Paula Williams spent 13 years as the host of a national television show (viewed by millions) and served as the Chairman and CEO of The Orchard Group -- a non-profit organization that starts new churches in the US-- for 34 years. Then her name was Paul. From a very young age, Paula knew she was transgender, but given her upbringing in a conservative religious household, she learned to keep this secret to herself. She eventually married, had children of her own, and was successful by many measures. But something was missing. One night, Paula (then Paul) had a life-altering realization. She knew that if she transitioned to being a woman it would inflict pain onto the people she loved most and she would put everything she worked for at risk, but it was bigger than her. It was a calling towards authenticity. When Paula finally mustered up enough courage to face her biggest fear and come out, she lost everything: all her jobs, her pension, her friends, and the news sent her family into disarray. Few people in her religious community understood or supported her. She says that was a brutal time for everyone in her family, especially for her ex-wife and kids. With some years behind the pivotal transition, Paula's experience of being initially a man, then a woman gave her a front-row seat to how women and men are treated differently at work and in life. Her unique journey has compelled her to advocate for gender equity, LGBTQ inclusion, executive leadership and American religion. In this episode, she shares about how different it feels leading in the business world as a woman, versus when she was a man and opens up about her inspiring journey towards authenticity. Tune in to get the full conversation and learn about: Leadership challenges Societal expectations and limitations The courage to be authentic The powerful journey of a transgender woman How men and women are treated differently in life and at work Cultural biases men and women live Challenges of women and LGBTQ in executive positions Rev.
