Tales from The America's Cup with Six Time Winner Murray JonesThis month's podcast sees Shirley Robertson talking to New Zealand's Murray Jones about a remarkable career spanning over two decades chasing the oldest trophy in international sport. Talking during a break in racing at the St Barth's Bucket earlier this year, Part One of the podcast sees Robertson start the conversation with a chat about Jones' early life growing up in New Zealand, and how he soon starting making a name for himself in the 470 Class. In this, Part 2, Robertson picks things up with Murray Jones as Swiss team Alinghi prepare to defend the Cup in Valencia without key team member Russell Coutts. It's a revealing insight into what was a fascinating time in international sailing, as Murray discusses the successful defence in Valencia and then the politically charged disruption that followed. For 2010 Jones was at the heart of the Alinghi team that went on to eventually lose the Cup in the much discussed Deed of Gift Match, a one of a kind race between two giant ninety foot multihulls, ultimately won by American Challenger BMW Oracle RacingWhile the result of the Deed of Gift match saw Alinghi withdraw from the Cup arena for for over two decades, Jones's Cup career continued, with another move, this time to the Defender, BMW Oracle. Injury put a halt to Jones' career as a Cup sailor, but his continued involvement in the Team saw him as a pivotal part of the 2013 San Francisco campaign, his memories of capsizes, espionage, and inevitable tales of the impossible comeback are again fascinating.Jones' final Cup campaign saw him back where it all started, coaching Team New Zealand to their eventual win in the waters of Bermuda, wrapping up an incredible seven Cup campaigns with another Team win, the sixth winning campaign of his career. This edition of the podcast is in two parts and is available to listen to via the podcast page of Shirley's own website - www.shirleyrobertson.com/podcast or via most popular podcast outlets, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcast and aCast. Tales from The America's Cup with Six Time Winner Murray JonesThis month's podcast sees Shirley Robertson talking to New Zealand's Murray Jones about a remarkable career spanning over two decades chasing the oldest trophy in international sport. Talking during a break in racing at the St Barth's Bucket earlier this year, Robertson starts the conversation with a chat about Jones' early life growing up in New Zealand, and how he soon starting making a name for himself in the 470 Class. A reserve in the Olympic team as a teenager, Jones' early career saw him part of a spectacularly talented generation of New Zealand sailors. For the national Olympic Team, medals soon followed, but two Olympic appearances in the Flying Dutchman class saw Jones disappointed with two top five finishes, but no medal. Pretty soon though, the Cup came calling, and Jones became a pivotal member of the 1995 Team New Zealand challenger under Sir Peter Blake. Sailing as strategist in the 1995 San Diego America's Cup, Jones talks of hours spent up the mast of Black Magic, as the team went on to the defeat Dennis Connor's team 0-5, his recollections at times almost understated as he looks back on what was New Zealand's fist ever Cup victory...:"We'd just test the whole time, we didn't do any racing, we took the attitiude that the Louis Vuitton Cup would be our practice racing and we were just fast and we basically sailed away from all the boats in the Louis Vuitton Cup and Dennis in the Cup. The fastest boat always wins the America's Cup! '"With the win in San Diego and New Zealand's successful defence of the Cup in Auckland in 2000, by the age of just thirty three, Murray Jones had twice won the most coveted trophy in sailing. But for the world of New Zealand sailing, unexpected events were on the horizzon...:"Out of the blue, Russel (Coutts) rang me and said 'I want to talk to you about something, I've got an offer to sail for this Swiss guy for the America's Cup and...I'll do it with a couple of you guys, would you be in..?' It blew me away, I had no idea, I said 'Wow!' I hadn't even thought about sailing for any other country other than New Zealand. Anyway, I rang him up the next day and said 'Yeah, I'm in, let's see what happens!' "Jones and Robertson then discuss how the New Zealander moved over to the newly formed Swiss Alinghi sailing team, the team that then went on to successfully Challenge for the 2003 Cup, winning the Cup from their old team mates at Team New Zealand. It's a revealing insight into what was a fascinating time in international sailing, as Alinghi Murray discusses the implications implications of the then controversial decision, joining a team that would ultimately see him go on to win two more Cups, in 2003 and 2007. Part Two of the Podcast gets underway as Robertson and Jones pick things up as Alinghi prepare to defend the Cup in Valencia, without key team member Russell Coutts. This edition of the podcast is in two parts and is available to listen to via the podcast page of Shirley's own website - www.shirleyrobertson.com/podcast or via most popular podcast outlets, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcast and aCast. This week Melissa takes us to the Caribbean island of St. Barth's, for a special conversation with the fascinating Charlie Vere Nicoll. Given Charlie's fascinating history with St. Barth's–as guest, hotelier, resident and vicar, he offers special insight into what makes this small volcanic island such a mythical place and a sought-after tropical retreat. The Rockefellers and Rothschilds were among the first to appreciate its natural beauty. In the late 1990s, after years of spending holidays on the island, Charlie and his wife Mandie, decided to make a major life change and buy the hotel that they had often stayed at on Flamands beach, the Isle de France. And a few years later, as you will hear, Charlie ended up in the surprising dual role of hotelier in paradise and vicar of the island's Anglican Church. In the latter role, he became the first permanent vicar of the church, which he remained for 14 years. And after establishing Isle de France as arguably the most sought after five star hotel on the island, he sold it to LVMH in 2013 only to purchase the island's last privately owned five star hotel, Hotel Le Toiny, in 2015. The property is a favorite destination for brides and grooms, honeymooners, and celebrities seeking to escape the public eye. The Vere Nicolls have since brought it to a new level of luxury in collaboration with English interior designer Bee Osborn. Follow Melissa on InstagramLearn more about Indagare Travel

The Huguenots were a Protestant minority in France during the 16th and 17th centuries. They faced intense persecution from the French Catholic majority and the monarchy. The persecution of Protestants in France resulted in the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre in 1572. Thousands of Huguenots died on that day. Despite terrible challenges, Huguenots made significant contributions to French society, particularly in the fields of art, science, and commerce. Many Huguenots eventually emigrated from France to other countries, such as England, Germany, the Dutch Republic, and the Americas, where their beliefs were accepted better. The world is opening back up, where do you want to go? Today we have Heidi La Russo from Lush Experience on the show to share with us some amazing places we can go this year! She shares with us 3 different locations and 4 amazing resorts that are perfect during the pandemic. Heidi mentions that she is starting to see bookings again and its mainly in the Caribbean. So let's get started with some great places that are perfect for social distancing and relaxation. Eden Roc is not your typical all inclusive Dominican Republic hotel. It's privately gated located in Cap Cana. Flying into Punta Cana is a 15 minute ride. All cars are being sanitized before and after clients. You can only go to Cap Cana if you are staying on Cap Cana and there is so much to do there. You can go to the marina for dinner, water activities, bike tours, walking tours and equestrian center to mention just a few. Eden Roc is located directly on the beach, and on a Jack Nicklaus Signature Punta Espada golf course. It has a 30,000 sq foot spa that focuses on wellness. The way the property is laid out is perfect for families that want to be spread out from other people, it's very spacious! The Poolside accommodation allows you to get your own private pool that is closed off ! They have an amazing kids club. Next we are moving on to Turks and Caicos some of the bluest water in the world. We are going to talk about two different resorts. The Palms which is located on Grace Bay Beach and is close proximity to the airport, around 15 min. The resort is an all suite property with 72 suites. It never feels crowded, the rooms are very spacious. Beautiful pool where you can see the ocean. Their spa is 25, 000 sq. but you can also do private treatments if you do not want to be near other people. They have non motorized sports like paddle boarding, tons of activities for kids even a kid counselor that sets up fun things to do like dancing, games, exercise and art and this is for kids ages 4-12. Grace Bay Beach is a wider and longer beach and water is deeper and more active. Perfect for older kids that love to do non motorized sports. Long Bay Beach is where you can find The Shore Club, the water is calm here, perfect for little kids, the beach is shorter and water is super shallow, 300 feet out it is at your waist! You can feel super comfortable with the kiddos in the water while relaxing. The Shore Club is not just perfect for families, it is a great getaway for couples. This property is all suites and also has a 4, 5, and 6 bedroom villa. Perfect for big family vacations or traveling with family friends! Each villa has it's own private pool. At the Shore Club you can find an adults only pool, family pool and the main pool as well as 2 tennis courts and the use of non motorized sports. You can also have spa treatments in private bungalows or in your room, whichever one you prefer! Lastly we are going to talk about St. Barth staying at the Le Carl Gustaf. This hotel is brand new and opens Oct 15th. If you are looking for a smaller property this is perfect for you. There are 23 accommodations, made up of 17 bungalows, 2 bedroom jr suite, 3 bedroom loft and 5 bedroom villa. All these have private pools attached to your room. They have access to the beach which is Shell Beach and it's about a 10 minute walk. They have fantastic restaurants and you can always do in room dining. We have not forgotten about the kids, they have sailing lessons, surf lessons, art, and tennis. They also have babysitters on property. The spa is incredible, great treatments and you can have them done all in your room if you prefer. One thing Heidi said that stood out to me is that seeing the world through other people's eyes and experiencing other cultures is what travel provides. Hear what she says about this topic and more on the podcast. If you liked this episode make sure to take a listen to this episode I did about my trip to Turks and Caicos in Ma...

This week my guest is fellow G20 member Craig Spitzer. Craig’s the CEO of a2c Boston, New York and Philadelphia, an IT consulting and staffing company he co-founded in 2007 with the mission of assisting clients who need new talent and technology to achieve their business objectives. Craig founded his first company — Alliance Consulting Group — in 1994, at the tender age 29. By 1999 ACG was ranked in the top ten of the Inc. 500, an honor it earned again the following year, becoming the only consulting firm ever to do so. Ernst & Young recognized Craig as their 2000 NYC Entrepreneur of the Year in Consulting and Outsourcing Services, and by age 36, he was recognized as one of Philadelphia’s top 3 CEOs under 40. ACG was sold to Safeguard Scientific in 2002, after growing to 720 employees and producing annual revenues of over $100 million. What makes Craig‘s story and life remarkable, though, is its sheer scope. He’s produced or co-produced three feature films; was a founding investor in businesses including two successful nightclubs, and sat as Director and Chairman for Halcyon Jets and on the Board of Trustees at the Kiski School, which he attended as a boy. Our conversation ranged from the streets of Pittsburgh to the beaches of St Barth’s, from the summit of Kilimanjaro to a pre New Year’s Eve party on the Octopus. He counts high school buddies and fraternity brothers among those closest to him, but maintains intimate friendships with people including Dick Vermeil, Michael Strahan, and Billy Bob Thornton. It’s a life touched by the triumph of a hugely successful business and the tragedy of 9/11, in vivid personal terms. It’s not an exaggeration to say our conversation was one of the most fascinating I’ve had so far, and I think you’re really going to enjoy it. Our second segment features Craig’s unique insight on the role of relationships in selling. As a student of enterprise selling myself I promise you this is a master class in the approaches and personal habits that lead to sales success. Relationships are at the core, of course, but Craig goes way beyond the usual blah-blah-blah to share his thoughts on the importance of being both interested in and interesting to the people you want to get to know better, and his secrets on how to seed, harvest and just enjoy the kinds of relationships that propel a business and a life forward. I really think you’re going to enjoy this one, don’t forget to tell your friends, subscribe, and rate us on whatever podcast app has my in your head right now.
