Today on The Procuretech Podcast, we welcome Sarah Scudder, Chief Marketing Officer of SourceDay. They're a Texas-based supply chain software company. Sarah previously appeared on the show way back in Series 1. SourceDay's mission is to ensure that manufacturing companies always get their parts on time. I can relate to this mission, having been a direct materials buyer in the automotive industry before the 2008-09 recession. Sarah begins by talking about their career trajectory, which started with a plan to pursue fashion and eventually produce her own fashion shows. She goes on to describe how a volunteer opportunity in her senior year of college led her to procurement and supply chain. Sarah ended up working as an intern for a local company in California that did sourcing and procurement in marketing. After some soul-searching, Sarah decided that her personality and strengths were better suited for a smaller business. She then took a job working in a sales and marketing, helping to restructure and pivot the business to become a software driven procurement company. Part of this role included her taking a challenge to post on LinkedIn every day for 90 days, which resulted in people reaching out to her, rather than her reaching out to them. This led her to pivot her career to focus on her newly found passion for demand generation, pipeline creation and marketing. This ultimately led to Sarah joining Source Day as the Chief Marketing Officer, where she has been for the past year and eight months. Sarah shares how networking has been essential to her career growth and success, both in sales and marketing. She credits her networking skills for undoubtedly helping her land her current job at Source Day. Her introduction to SourceDay's CEO and co-founder came through her network. Without it, she wouldn't have landed the job. Sarah is also big on community building and hosts a meetup group twice a month, a podcast, and a series of live-streamed show formats. She leverages her network to get advice, feedback, and to secure speakers for these. Sarah gives some solid gold advice on how leveraging your network, building a personal brand and being a content creator can lead to a wealth of opportunities which otherwise would not present themselves. I can only concur with this. I highly recommend anyone out there to get started, especially if you're a bit stuck about how to pivot into a different career path. This episode will equip you with the "how" and the "what". All you then need to consider is the "why" and the "where" you want to go with it! Stay in touch! Dogpatch Labs today unveiled the latest cohort of startups in the NDRC programme, Ireland's national startup accelerator. Six fast-growth technology companies have been selected from a pool of nearly 300 applicants to take part in the 6-month programme powered by the startup and innovation hub. Participating startups will receive an investment of €100,000 and will benefit from world class mentoring and scaling supports available via the Dogpatch network. This cohort reflects several wider trends within Irish innovation, with multiple participating founders having left successful careers in Google, Amazon & other tech leaders to spin up their companies. This shift towards entrepreneurship as a career path is a clear endorsement of the opportunities available within the Irish ecosystem and via programmes like NDRC. The selected startups also have a strong engineering skillset, with each founding team including a technical co-founder or embedded CTO. This cohort reflects the balanced nationwide distribution of Ireland's innovation talent, and includes startups from a range of industries & sectors from machine learning and computer vision, to supply chain and global logistics: Examfly: Limerick-founded EdTech transforming the learning experience for professional exams & training using interactive technologies. Examfly already counts PWC & Deloitte among its customers. Chopcast: Intelligent content repurposing platform founded by Google & Hubspot alumni. Media startup Chopcast helps users automatically turn long videos into clips for social media based on key moments. Tipple: Offaly-HQ'd commerce and logistics platform, enables brands to sell into new markets by handling the excise, VAT and fulfillment at point of sale. The ex-Amazon founding team are focused on eliminating friction in cross border transactions and increasing revenue for D2C brands. MoveAhead: First NDRC University spinout under Dogpatch Labs management. EdTech startup MoveAhead takes the first child-centred approach to motion-tracking and pose estimation, marrying children's movement with computer vision and data science. Tracworx: The Limerick-based leadership team previously founded the FarmEye agritech software, but switched focus during the pandemic to Supply Chain Tech. They developed Tracworx, the digital infrastructure for returnable packaging. Terrabyte: The engineer focused startup is a social platform where Developers show off projects and find work. Where Reddit meets GitHub, a space where developers connect with like-minded developers to show off projects, learn and hang out. The Full Stack has almost 10k users. The programme will be led by newly appointed Accelerator MD, entrepreneur & investor Ian Browne. Browne founded the successful My Surgery Website, growing it to over 4,000 customers and millions of users before it was acquired by Nasdaq-listed Stericycle. He has played a leading role in developing an Ireland-wide startup ecosystem through his work with Ignite NI over recent years helping indigineous founders raise over €75m in early stage funding. Our guest in this week's episode is Dawn Tiura, president and CEO of SIG (Sourcing Industry Group), a membership organization of companies involved in sourcing raw materials and finished goods. She discusses the impacts of China's Zero-Covid policy of locking down major cities to slow the spread of Covid. The latest example is Shanghai, China's most populous city. Unfortunately, the lockdowns are not really stopping Covid from spreading and it causes major disruptions to lives and supply chains. She shares how her member companies and others are dealing with bottlenecks and disruptions caused by the shutdowns.New orders for truck trailers are on the rise for the first time in quite a while. Because of supply chain problems, companies looking to replace aging trailers or make additions to their fleets have seen few trailer  manufacturers taking on new orders. Is this a sign that things are getting better for the industry? It's a fact that supply chain technology can improve operations, and now companies are proving it with their latest investments. Disruptive Tech In The Supply Chain with Charley Dehoney Charley Dehoney and Joe Lynch discuss disruptive tech in the supply chain. Charley is the Vice President of ZEBOX AMERICA, an international incubator and accelerator of innovative startups focused on two sectoral areas: transport, mobilities, logistics and industry. About Charley Dehoney Charley Dehoney is the Vice-President of ZEBOX AMERICA, an international incubator & accelerator for innovative startups, focuses on two sectoral areas: transport, mobilities, logistics on the one hand & Industry 4.0 on the other hand. Following his studies at San Jose State University, in the heart of Silicon Valley, Charley naturally started his career in 2003 in the field of supply chain and logistic technologies, working in the sales teams of companies such as Fusion Logistics, Cargomatic and ShipHawk.  Then, he acquired and managed Manning's Truck Brokerage, a 50-year-old, private equity-backed logistics company, which he successfully digitalized and sold in 2020 to FitzMark. After, he was the CEO of Freight Mango, a Global Digital Freight Marketplace focused on streamlining and automating global trade. Since August 2021, he has built and lead ZEBOX AMERICA, based in Arlington, Virginia. As a seasoned entrepreneur, investor and executive in logistics technology, Charley's mission is to connect the most innovative startups to corporate partners through ZEBOX. Being a lifelong athlete, Charley is passionate about coaching. Over the years, Charley also followed an entrepreneurial path and has been a dedicated mentor, coach and angel investor for many entrepreneurs in the field of logistic innovation.  About ZEBOX ZEBOX is the international incubator and accelerator of innovative startups founded on the initiative of Rodolphe Saadé, CEO of CMA CGM and led by Matthieu Somekh, an expert on entrepreneurship and innovation. ZEBOX focuses on two sectoral areas: transport, mobilities, logistics and industry X.0 with at the heart of each project, advanced technologies like AI, blockchain, IoT, robotics, cybersecurity and virtual or augmented reality. ZEBOX is zeplace to be for innovative projects related to new techs enablers. ZEBOX offers startups two tailor-made support programs, adapted according to the progress of their project. Thanks to its international network of corporate partners (CMA CGM, Accenture, BNP Paribas, EY, Centrimex, CEVA) and opening to the world, ZEBOX offers an outstanding framework to build future interactions between startups, corporates, academics and investors. Key Takeaways: Disruptive Tech In The Supply Chain Technology is having a huge impact on the logistics and supply chain. Most technology projects deliver incremental improvement, while others are disruptive (in a good way) and change the way we do business. Increasingly, technology leaders are transforming businesses and industries by providing a superior customer experience. In the podcast interview, Charley Dehoney, Vice President of ZEBOX, an international incubator and accelerator, explains how ZEBOX is helping innovative startups launch and scale. ZEBOX offers startups with technological innovation in the sectors of transport, logistics and mobility two support programs: an incubation program and an acceleration program. The transport and logistics sectors are facing major transformation challenges where innovation plays a key role. More digitalization, more automation, more transparency, more traceability, and more sustainable development are all examples where startups can bring real added value and disrupt a market that has long been dominated by a few giants. The 3 main selection criteria to join ZEBOX are the sector of activity, the technology and the stage of maturity of the startup. The founding team which play a leading role in the success of a startup is of course added to this. ZEBOX was founded two years ago in Marseilles (France), by Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Group, alongside other noted leaders in the field such as GTT, CEVA Logistics, CIMC, BNP Paribas, Centrimex and INFOSYS. CMA CGM will invest a projected $36 million to expand operations in Hampton Roads Virginia, reinforce its headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, and establish the American hub of ZEBOX in Arlington County, a startup incubator and accelerator. CMA CGM and ZEBOX will be in good company as Amazon's second HQ will be located in the same complex.
