Hosts Jim Shannon and Todd Ritter, feature special guest David Sandlin, bourbon historian and owner of House of Commons in Frankfort, Kentucky . This episode, affectionately dubbed "Crazy Eights," embarks on a fascinating tasting journey through five different versions of Wild Turkey 8-year bourbon . The hosts and David analyze various expressions, starting with the recently released 2025 Wild Turkey 8-year 101 . They delve into its nose, noting hints of peanut shell, lemon, and a spicier, more prominent rye note than typically found in Wild Turkey, along with subtle clove and dark chocolate . The 2025 release is also described as more nutty and spicy compared to the 70th anniversary edition . Next up is the 70th Anniversary release, honored for Jimmy Russell's 70th anniversary . This expression showcases more classic citrus and honey notes, with a softer, more viscous palate and hints of overripe cherries . The discussion touches on the different Wild Turkey rickhouse campuses—Tyrone, McBrayer, and Camp Nelson—and their influence on the bourbon's profile . The journey continues with the 2018 Wild Turkey 8-year 101, which presents a more subdued, classic Wild Turkey profile, with notes of citrus, dark fruits, and honey . Following this, the 2014 Wild Turkey 8-year 101 reveals a distinct "turkey funk," with rich toffee, caramel, and a unique savory, almost meaty flavor, suggesting a lower barrel entry proof . Finally, the 2002 Wild Turkey 8-year 101 is introduced as a "big hitter" . This expression is lauded for its rich, balanced oak and spice, creamy caramel, and evolving flavors of vanilla, offering a concentrated and complex experience . The hosts discuss the history of the 8-year expression, noting its absence from the American market since 1992 until recently, being primarily an export product . The podcast concludes with the hosts and David ranking their top three pours, with the 2002 taking the top spot, followed by the 2014 and the 70th Anniversary edition . David Sandlin, owner of House of Commons, is celebrated for his extensive knowledge of bourbon history, flavors, and his role as a mixologist . House of Commons, located in Frankfort, is highlighted as the only vintage distilled spirits bar in the area, offering a vast selection of Kentucky spirits and a unique bourbon experience, with Airbnbs available above the bar for travelers . This episode contains: Steven and Ben wonder if anyone is reading these notes… but regardless, they're your hosts this week, just so you know what to expect. Can you believe that Rubik's Cubes are back? Ben's son has mastered ye olde cube of Rubick, but isn't it kind of like magic on the surface? And don't even get me started on juggling Rubik's cubes, geesh! You should stop what you're doing and watch Godzilla Minus One. It's an incredible depiction of the horrors of WWII. Ben got frazzled preparing for a BBQ, and told a story where he was asked to rate an Instacart driver's scorpion face tatoo, even though it was shedding. What does one do after a BBQ? Well, Ben and Steven met in person and had beers and played Kings in the Corner. Ben was hoping to maybe play some Buried Treasure, but Steven wouldn't have it. NASA and Roscosmos are struggling to address worsening leaks in the International Space Station, specifically in the PrK module of the Russian segment. Despite attempts to mitigate the issue, the leaks persist. While not currently posing an existential threat to the station, the leaks are now classified as a high likelihood, high consequence risk. The aging infrastructure of the station, particularly the Zvezda module, and limited resources due to geopolitical tensions, are contributing to the problem. The situation raises concerns about the future of the space station, set to retire in 2030. https://arstechnica.com/space/2024/06/on-the-space-station-band-aid-fixes-for-systemic-problems/ Roh My: Adobe Sparks Backlash Over AI Terms That Let It 'Access, View Your Content'. Adobe's updated terms of use allow its machine learning tools to view and use customers' content to develop future Adobe products—but it's unclear exactly what that entails. This is a big deal for a company making enterprise-level and industry leading products, and may impact whether corporate customers that have NDAs should continue to use Photoshop. Adobe later says the controversy is a misunderstanding about its effort to crack down on child sexual abuse material, but that seems flimsy, especially as they didn't lead with that when they pushed the new terms to customers. Steven remembers the beginnings of Photoshop, and it's connection to Industrial Light and Magic through Executive Creative Director John Knoll, who codeveloped Photoshop with his brother Thomas. https://www.pcmag.com/news/adobe-sparks-backlash-over-ai-terms-that-let-it-access-view-your-content https://www.ilm.com/people/john-knoll/ Who is this show for? Everybody! Let's go! Steven review the first two episodes of The Acolyte. Is it truly the first BRAND NEW Star Wars since A New Hope? The rumor mill is swirling with talks of a new Star Wars trilogy set 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga. We are here for it. Maybe not Devon, but Star Wars still has the other two man-children who host this show in it's thrall. Book Club: Next week we'll be reading Stories in the sand, by Griffon McElroy, published in the Star Wars short story anthology From a Certain Point of View. But this week, we read a different story from that same anthology: The Trigger by Kieron Gillen. The story follows Aphra as she encounters stormtroopers while scavenging on Dantooine. Aphra is sentenced to execution… how will she escape? The story explores Aphra's changing views on the Empire after the destruction of Alderaan. So cool to see another story following Doctor Aphra, and another story by Kieron Gillen. We like it. So will you. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Chelli_Lona_Aphra

One year ago, T took everyone thru the first year of the Afterdark Horrorfest and the 8 Films to Die For. He's back with year 2 and eight new movies to check out! Listen up to his review of films 1 & 2 Crazy Eights Six friends, including a professor (Dina Meyer) and a priest (George Newbern), gather for the funeral of a childhood pal, who has left behind a will asking them to dig up an old time capsule. They excavate the container and are shocked to find a young girl's skeleton inside. Unnerved, the friends get lost and end up in a long-abandoned government facility where sadistic medical experiments were once performed on children -- and they're now trapped and at the mercy of a vengeful ghost. Borderland Ed (Brian Presley), Henry (Jake Muxworthy) and Phil (Rider Strong) are three American college graduates in search of wild times in Mexico. After a night of partying with two local women, Ed and Henry realize that Phil is missing. Joining forces with an ex-cop, their search for their friend leads them to a horrifying encounter with cultists who practice human sacrifice.

I started with a chord progression. I had to fit the melody with the chords and I didn’t do very well at first. Some imortant things about my piece are that one it’s crazy, and two it has three parts that are nothing alike and this makes it sound cool. Some challenges I had were fitting the melody with the chords. It’s been fun compsing music this year. I’ve learned that it’s important to not have two dissonances next to each other.
